Thanks for expressing interest to sign up. While it's perfectly fine to not disclose your actual gender, any given MySim to be included as shown in the game must have one or the other. That's the way Maxis programmed it I'm afraid, so there's no other option than for a 0x01 or 0x00 in the data for Male or Female respectively.

If you'd prefer not to disclose your actual gender, that's completely understandable. In that case as Cori said, with your permission we'll choose Female unless you'd rather have your MySim Gender as Male. Or alternatively if you'd rather withdraw from inclusion because of this limitation, just let us know and it's all good. Right now you've got the #80 slot reserved until the next update. Of course, you're most welcome to confirm your inclusion after this (since we aim for a weekly update every Monday).

Another thing is your avatar. Being animated with the numbers, we'll need to know which you'd like to have used. It's technically not possible to include animated GIFs as the MySim avatar, and it can only be a static bitmap image scaled to 36x41 pixels. Would the number 1 be the one, or any particular frame?

I did a straight conversion from your .png to .bmp and here's how you look in the game now:

oh it looks like imgur converted it from a .bmp to a .png....

I was going to do it myself because my avatar image isn't tall enough to fill the rectangle (and I would just recrop the illustration), so recropping it would avoid stretching there. But I suppose then it would just be getting stretched when it gets scaled to fit the circle, wouldn't it.

Anyway, could you just do it from my simtropolis avatar then? My image in the preview there looks pretty sad looking which I'm guessing is from the file conversion.

I make things like this complicated, don't I?

What we've found is that scaling a square avatar directly to the 36x41 does stretch the image in the MySimtropolis selection panel in the game. However, once placed in a home the game then squishes it back down and then it looks ok.

What are the file locations for the GOG version of the game.  I obviously put them in the wrong place because when I clicked on the button it kicked me out of the game. Or, is this not compatible with the GOG version?

@Huggy-Bear  I'll clarify for anyone else who might find this post.

  I'm guessing you did the same as me on the test before the first release. Did you copy the MySim folder from the .zip into a MySim folder like this?

 

It needs to have the contents from the MySim folder which is in the .zip all loose in the MySim folder under SimCity 4 in Documents like this:

 

And yes, it does work with the Gog version and all others. I've personally tested with Gog on my Win 7 comp and with the disc version on my XP comp.

Just to add...

The MySim folder must be located outside of Plugins in the specified location, whereas the Locale "Rulez" file does go in Plugins like regular custom content.

Should the MySims.dat file not be found inside the path it expects (directly in SimCity 4) and with the Locale file being installed, this will cause the game to crash upon opening the MySim selection panel. The reason is because it sets null entries for the default MySims. By not having anyone available to be listed in the panel, there's an invalid reference and hence nothing gets loaded as expected, then the game gets in a muddle and gives up.

I'm working on your image to use in the game. I noticed the one you have for your avatar here is cropped such that not all of your ears and nose show. I've cropped the fox image from your profile background picture which is not exactly the same. Then, because it has to be scaled down to 36x41 pixels, I feel the background becomes at bit too prominent.

Are any of these samples acceptable to you?

(I personally believe the one with the white background would look the best in the game.)
