    It's a couple of months late for me but I have been on this site since 2012, and absent for quite a few years I'm afraid to say. I tend to go in cycles with playing SC4, playing avidly for ages, then sporadically followed by a long period of inactivity. Then it's a repeat of the cycle.

    Brilliant, I can now plant fully grown trees in my cities, especially the rural bits where they would grow up round roads and railway lines.

    I got a copy of that version from the Oracle Java Archive, and it has installed on my virtual drive okay, so the next step is reinstalling the NAM. @rsc204 I need to changing the driving side and need Java for the custom installation of the NAM

    More problems I'm afraid. Java.. I cannot get to install, I tried it on the XP drive that I created and got the message that it needs a newer version of Windoze to run, so I thought that I would create a new drive with 64 bit Windoze 10 installed, and I got the same [censored] message when I tried running the exe file. Can anybody help me with this one.
  5. Now that I have got SC4 on Linux and working, where do I go to get the exe files to run properly.? Scratch that, I have used my little grey cells and have worked it out from the instructions that Catty gave me for installing SC4.
  6. Now that I've got it working, what happens when there is a new release of the data file.?
  7. Tried that and it still crashed At a second attempt I have got it working, having an empty folder doesn't help....

As you may know, thanks to the hard work of Cathy and others, I have now got SC4 working in Linux, however the first thing I tried to add was the MySimtropolis members, but I'm getting the same problem that I had before, I have installed them in the folder I think that they should be in. Any ideas of where I'm going wrong.?

    MEGA UPDATE I have just followed all the instructions that Cathy has spent ages working on, and I'm pleased to report that SC4 is now running in Linux. Thanks to everyone that has worked on the problem.

  11. I've just moved the file to the correct place, and have promptly moved myself into the nicest house in the city.
  12. Thought you might do that, I don't have a Documents folder, on my system it's My Documents
  13. I have just installed my Simtropolis, but as soon as I click on add a sim it crashes, also I'm not getting the screens with all of the members, just five blank faces. There was no existing My Sims folder so I just put the one I downloaded into the main list.

    Thanks, we'll take a look at it tomorrow as it's getting late here, and I'm not the tecnical whiz. That falls to my wife Now if it's more to do with the mechanical side I'm the girl for that .

    I've just tried that and the black bars are still at the sides of the screen. Is this because it's a widescreen screen, and I have got it as wide as it will go.? If so then I can live with it.
