What a feat. 20 years. I played the original SimCity in 1992, as a kid in the 90s, SimCity 2000, SimCity 3000 before buying SC4 Rush Hour in September 22 2003 when it was first released. I found Simtropolis community afterwards, and no matter how many hours I played SC4 it was the only game I ever, truly felt, at home, coming back after years, I always found my home.

Came here just to post this. I've been waiting 20 years for such a project. I am rooting and thanking you immensely for putting in your time to make OpenSC4. All the best

Is there any city building game better than SC4?

Is there any articles or information on those Maxis developers and/or SC4 development? -
Seriously? This is beautiful. That craftsmanship looks just like real life stills. Are you sure this is SC4?

Okay so here goes the first attempt back fired. I added the round abouts - being English and all :o) is there any way in which this can be done?

Ideas for Improving SimCity 4's Performance
ironjaw replied to bluedragon012's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
THAT! is amazing news about C&C. I remember playing it for countless hours. Such a hit back in the late nineties. It could be a good idea to pitch an opensource SC4 through social media. I'm assuming rights might have been sold for a game nearing 20 years. I think IP rights last no longer than 15 years, (or somewhere like that, thinking pharmaceutical companies have direct competitors (generic firms) that make copies of generic medicines, unless the patent or IP can be extended with new technology. The law is set in a way towards innovation more than protection, I mean you do get baseline protection but only up to X amount of years, so you could ask for the source code to be distributed as abandonware, freely) so the same rules would apply to EA and Maxis, and the software is no longer sold by EA so you're not eating into their revenues as its an older defunct software. I do believe fear is not rational and a 20 year old title rights can be secured easily if the right patent attorney with negotiating software is sought for advise. The only thing they can protect is the copyright of SimCity as a registered trademark.- 14 Replies

Thanks! I didn't know that you could upgrade without needing more space by using ARD-3, TLA-3, AVE-2 or NRD-4. What a brilliant piece of software the NAM is. I'm still learning and inching my way through learning the NAM (and watching Rob on Youtube) and all those different configurations. I will try your examples and see how it goes. You all have breathed new life in SC4! Amazing, work

MySimtropolis - Invitation to become a SimCity 4 MySim

Hello and good morning, I'm still new so please bear with me as it's been over 5 years that I've last played SC4 but I have been addicted since 2003 with SC4 and much before that with the original SimCity. I know so many things have changed with the NAM, and after an uneventful Mac experience these last couple of days, I dug out an older PC that I upgraded to 16GB of RAM and a GOG SC4 copy, so here goes: I'm building a small town, enthusiastically titled Martha's Vineyard. though I've never visited the US. I'm keeping things rural with the farms and a town feel and roads built and going to a neighbour on the left. I've been pestered with congestion and traffic (see pictures) even though I've had the NAM and Traffic Simulator Tool installed to Ultra and plenty of bus stations. So how do I reduce traffic without upgrading the road to an Avenue? Are there other possibilities? Cheers

Is there any city building game better than SC4?
ironjaw replied to ironjaw's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I see, but the question beckons: what else is there that compares. I haven't really tried anything else. I did try the new SimCity, 5 but that experience didn't last longer than 20 min and I tried twice, but gave up. it was weird, so I returned to SC4. Other than that I've heard about Cities XL or Skyline or something but never played it. The overall feel of SC4, the music soundtrack score, the NAM options, the mods and the addictive Youtube video tutorials, make the game relevant as it was back then, as now. -
Is there any city building game better than SC4?
ironjaw posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
First, and foremost, I want to thank each and everyone here at Simtropolis, admins, mods, contributors, etc. that have made this game the most amazing and enjoyable, ever! I can't believe that 2003 is so many years ago, with the 20th anniversary, 2023 upcoming, I do feel ancient but this game cheers me up, nostalgic style. I played SC4 in 2003 when as 20 year old I stood in front of a queue to buy it at a local game store. I still have the original game discs somewhere in storage. I spent many hours in front of PC laptop with a resolution of 800 x 600, such a tiny screen, while also reading the Prima game guide and searching the net for articles. And then when RH came out, I was overjoyed with the new release and again stood in a longer queue, this time to buy it. RH made such a big change. That is also somewhere in storage, after I had bought the game digitally both on the Mac App Store (disappointed), when I moved to the Mac, and Steam. Although, I've been playing on a Mac since, and am therefore not gaining the full experience of the mods, night mode, etc, as well the issues incumbent on Mac users, such as .exe files, I still love the game. NAM just breathes new life into this game. So my question is to all of you still hanging around here, and keeping this game going from strength to strength, is there any other city building game better than SC4? Will this last another 20 years, I know I will still be playing this. Or am I just nostalgic?
