Job Zots in Spite of Job Availability
Alastriona replied to The Magical Magpie's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
It does seem like the avenue at the bottom is disconnected somewhat from what appears to be the primary avenue? The traffic view shows two missing tiles at the intersection. I am not sure if that is the solution, though. -
Two things to show off that i've worked on lately. First is that I managed to create a region of 400,000 Sims in pure vanilla (no NAM, no custom ploppables, no high-tech fix, all cities on Hard difficulty, no cheats ofc). First picture is the region as I last took a picture of it; second is some skyscrapers in my main city during development. Second is that, though modest amount of effort, I managed to tank the mayor rating in a blank canvas town. Took 20% taxes, spamming the NIMBY buildings (mostly via UDI), and spamming power plants. 3rd and 4th pictures demonstrate those

Trouble with Natural City Growth / C$ and I-Ag Spam
Alastriona replied to Alastriona's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Update. I had a long session tonight, which ended up resulting in the attached region with over 170k Sims (125k in the medium tile). This is despite an overall lack of planning (no avenues, highways, or mass transit; mostly roads). High density residential has been built, and things seem to be stable if a bit problematic currently. I believe my problem is simply overthinking things and switching cities *too* often, as well as not using any medium tiles which can more easily expand. -
Trouble with Natural City Growth / C$ and I-Ag Spam
Alastriona replied to Alastriona's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Right, that's what I did, and everything collapsed. I tick time for 3 months in City B to see like 6000 R$ demand. That fills out with zoning, I go back to City A, let it tick for 3 months, and suddenly its at *minus* 6000 R$ demand. -
Trouble with Natural City Growth / C$ and I-Ag Spam

Thank you for the reply @rsc204! I am definitely getting stuck with moving to a second city once the first culminates, as things start to fall apart re: negative demand in the first city once I exhaust demand with the second city. I'm confident i'll eventually get it figured out, be it just making separate self-sufficient cities or otherwise -
Trouble with Natural City Growth / C$ and I-Ag Spam

Hey all! In the past when i'd play SC4 (vanilla, not NAM), i'd attempt to play on only one city tile and grow it as large as possible. However, i'd end up stalling around 30k-50k citizens, and be unable to advance further due to stagnant demand. Moving out to another city next to it would not produce much in the way of progress. This time, I decided to take the opposite approach by starting lots of small towns in several different connected tiles, with largely R$ and I-Ag zoning. This has gotten me to a region of 18k so far on 4 small tiles and 2 medium tiles. The problem I am now having is that, while I want to keep demand for all categories high, my R$ and I-Ag demand never decreases. This is matched with lack of growth of Cs-$. Naturally, I-D increases in demand, so I have zoned some of that in one of my tiles, allowing that particular tile to account for over a third of my regional population. Despite this massive population and industrial boom, my Cs-$ (and other commerical demand) remains stagnant. The last thing I tried was a tile where I focused squarely on education. While now that tile has some commercial demand, including higher wealth, the demand is much too miniscule for anything past stage 4-5 (even when the residents of that tile are Q4 educated). Demand for any particular commercial type, even with minimal commercial zoning (max: 20 tiles), never exceeded 2000. TL;DR / The Question: How do I make my commerical demand skyrocket in an early-game region in the same way R$, I-Ag, and I-D do? How do I advance from a farming/dirty industry economy to commerical, when education is producing minimal demand increase? -
Failure to Upzone Despite Demand and Desireability
Alastriona replied to Alastriona's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thank you! So the R$$$ is the problem there, as well as the population. Not sure why the low population is the problem there, though, given that demand is present.- 3 Replies

Failure to Upzone Despite Demand and Desireability
Alastriona posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
My city is very small, ~12k population. I have R$ and R$$ demand, and low density R$/R$$ buildings in areas with very high desireability for them. However, the buildings will not upzone (that is, become medium density with the proper zoning). It is also not a demand cap issue, as demand is not exactly 0 and I have spammed parks over the area. I am wondering what I am neglecting in my play and why my city is stagnating despite demand. Note: I am running pure vanilla (no NAM), and traffic is likely not the issue as I do not have "Lack of Job" zots in the affected areas.- 3 Replies
