Rivers starting in mountians
Christian_Knight78 replied to Christian_Knight78's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thats what I was afraid of. When I do a river in my regions I select the shallow canyon option and press CTRL to narrow the impact circle and carve away. I normally don't try and get a river drawn to my mountainous terrain because I would end up, like you said, with deeply huge canyons with the water at sea level and normally have it just end before the plains. But, knowing that I can use the MMP and the CAN-AM mod is good to hear. Thanks for the tip and food for thought. I will think on this. -
I'm not sure if this is addressed somewhere else, but I have a question about rivers. I am creating a region with topographical and geographical diversity. Mostly I'm trying my hand at a coastal region where the terrain is flat and heavily wooded. This gives way to a gentle rise in elevation wooded/plains. Then I have a "front range" with moderately high peaks which give way to "high plains." Past them is the high mountains, very rugged terrain, very mountainous, very high peaks. I have two lakes along the ocean coast, with rivers created. I want the source of the rivers to be in the front range. However, it would not look pleasing to the eye if the rivers are not matching the elevation (like in real life - the source being in the mountains and the river flows downhill to the ocean) and stay at sea level.

Count me in! Do you still have room? Christian_Knighth78 Male Taurus -
In your top pic, I don't know of any interchanges in real life that look like that. If i'd be having a vertigo episode and a dizzy spell, I'm sure the sims would too. Then again, I give you 4.5/5 stars for creativity.

Rail connection to Seaport
Christian_Knight78 replied to Christian_Knight78's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Awesome! Thanks for the memory jog! I will play around with this later -
I'm not sure if this question is addressed anywhere else. How do I connect Pegasus' seaports to my freight rail? Is it just by having the rail line end next to the ports? I can't remember.

I was a US Army Military Policeman stationed in Germany. We had been training up for our upcoming NATO Kosovo Peacekeeping tour for 2002. We had been in a field training exercise near Weiden, Germany (our final one before our month long Mission Readiness Exercise in Hohenfels, Germany). Remember, Germany is 6 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. So when the attacks happened, it was already in the afternoon for me. Plus, we really did not believe it. We initially thought it was part of our training scenario. My Battalion Commander had personally come out to deliver the bad news to us, and told us that the US had indeed been attacked - The WTC and the Pentagon and flight 93 in Pennsylvania. He told us the 7th US Army commander with the US Army Europe Commander had ordered all units to return to their home stations, all training to cease, all DOD schools closed, and all DOD employees ordered to remain in their home areas. By the next morning, we saw the evidence in the German Newspapers and on CNN world - the attacks. It was rather tense the next few months. I had the opportunity to partner with the German Police in our patrols around Schweinfurt, as well as the Deutshcer Feljaegers (German Military Police). The German Customs had intercepted at the southern border a semi from Iraq that was filled with questionable items for attacks.

Why do you still play SC4 ?

I like the challenge of building up multiple cities in a region to see how they "interact" and "work" together. It's like a giant jigsaw puzzle, and it is never the same. Sometimes a mistake in layout ends up paying off in the long-run. I like the way you can "learn as you go." For instance, in my main capital I have a good network of freeways which start there and branch out to the region, and allow my sims to go from place to place in my city. However, I am now figuring out where to best place my next tier of mass transit options: high-speed rial, monorail, bus, and subway. I like the multiple ways you can develop a city and it's never the same in each city. In one of my medium-sized cities, I had the proper balance and location of Industrial, res, and commercial starting out. However, it ended up being an all commercial and residential city. In a another city it was the opposite: it became a mostly industrial and residential city. With all the mods and add-on's offered on the exchange, you can make truly elaborate and ascetically pleasing cities. In another coastal city of mine, it ended up being a huge shipping and military hub. -
@ Halijackey: Looks good. Looks like you and I keep a similar right-of-way distance beetween the Freeway and any development
