Would it be politically/socially inappropriate to have my avatar included with either BL3 OSHA certified Respirator or a NATO CE certified Combat Gas Mask (currently transitioning due to a number reasons; despite that 3M makes excellent kit).

Having just avoided Vietnam ... and other misadventures I felt I lived in a time of good luck.  However, I now know since 2019 ... SARCOV2, famine, financial crash, environmental chaos, wars active and looming ... I wasn't lucky; just "the best was saved for last".  I think that is to be a theme of my life.

Ofc, we don't allow sexually explicit, threatening, or gory images. Those masks sort of imply a warlike vibe and I personally would rather not see one, but also I won't rule against on my own.

How about posting a pic of one that you'd like to use so we could discuss it among ST's staff?

Sure.  3M isn't very threatening; it's industrial where as the MIRA stuff is black and would stop a pistol round to the face.  In fact, without the prefilter on the cartridges they are colored pink.  Not because 3M is trying to make a gender statement, but cartridges are color coded based based on what they protect against.  I will PM you an image.

I like MarkShot as it goes back to the early PC/AT days.  Remember when your save games had to be DOS filenames of 8.3 ... hence the birth of MarkShot.

As we don't have the 12 animals of the Chinese Lunar Cycle, I will go with Libra as philosophically I subscribe to Taoism (not religiously).

For those who are curious about the image.  A 3M industrial/lab respirator with P100/GME (high filtration and multi-gas protection cartridges).  I have chosen my avatar; NOT as a political or social statement.  Personal:  My health will not stand up to an infection of SARSCOV2.  Thus, my life has been and will be determined by the pandemic and endemic.  Even my presence here and time to code.

* If you keep a first aid kit, spare water, food, flashlight at home ... FFRs (full face respirators with unopened multi-gas cartridges are  not a bad idea).  Besides pandemics consider your risk profile in the USA:  forest fire, dust storms, volcano (the ash is actually fine glass, not soot), industrial accidents (Bhopal India killed around 20,000), social unrest (pepper spray and tear gas ... don't think these harmless as if you have asthma, they can kill) and nuclear accidents (I lived 50 miles from Oyster Creek, the oldest public reactor in the USA and I believe still operating; the most important thing in a TMI/Chernobyl accident is to clear the hot zone).  Your chances with a car to survive are decent.  Your external body can easily be decontaminated, but if you ingest or inhale hot particles ... it is games over.  They are likely to remain in your body producing ionizing radiation which at best means cancer or at worst a horrible death in weeks.

** I will be upgrading to military kit in the next month or two versus industrial.  For health benefits, not because I am a warmonger.  But Cori is right some of the specs truly do reflect combat improvements.  3M's gear is made of silicone.  MIRA's gear is made of butyl rubber.  Difference butyl rubber will maintain its integrity when exposed to caustic agents like Phosgene, Chlorine, and Mustard Gas.  So, I do see how up to date military equipment by virtue of why it exists can feel threatening.  Thank you, Cori.  I will try to keep that in mind.  That's mainly why in selecting kit, I went with black as opposed to olive green or camo.  As the surgical mask is almost a religion here ... no one is bothered by respirators and the most common question is "Can I save money on masks with one of those?".  (People put money before life here.  They drive a night with no lights so they can save replacement bulbs.  There is nothing more invisible in a car at night than a motorcycle with no lights.  I dread the day they go electric as they will be silent too.)
