This City Deserves A Better Class of Criminal
Mister J posted a City Journal entry in GOTHAM PROJECT
“Gotham City. Clean shafts of concrete and snowy rooftops. The work of men who died generations ago. From here, it looks like an achievement. From here, you can’t see the enemy…” - from Batman: Year One Happy Holidays to all! I hope the new year brings plenty of great city building to everyone out there. It's been a long hiatus and I'm glad to finally be able to post the last few entries of this project after 3 years of corrupt mayoring. A year and a half ago I got a promotion and started working long hours, barely finding the spare time to chip away at Gotham, but I'm proud to say that Stage 3 is finally complete! So, here it is... Beginning of Stage 3 End of Stage 3 City of the Clouds Something is rising in Gotham — and it’s not just the hopeless crime rates. It’s black steel, cold concrete, and stained glass as far as the eye can see. The skyline has changed dramatically into endless blocks of towering structures. But as buildings climbed toward the heavens, the residents plummeted deeper into hell. Midtown Financial District Tricorner Downtown Uptown I wasn't able to stick with my original goal of growing it as a real-world mega-city would evolve. It would have taken even longer than 3 years, but I'm still happy with the end result. I did hit my mark of a population of 12 million Sims, so there's that. Crime Levels and GCPD Corruption Scandals Crime in Gotham City has reached record highs. Armed robberies, gang violence, and organized crime are spreading through nearly every district, overwhelming the city’s already strained police force. Behind the statistics lies a deeper problem: corruption inside the Gotham City Police Department itself. Recent investigations have uncovered officers taking bribes, leaking information to crime bosses, and sabotaging evidence for internal cases. Public trust in law enforcement has evaporated and the underworld grows larger every year. As the GCPD struggles to clean up its own ranks, criminals are taking full advantage of the chaos, leaving Gotham to pay the price. Now, City Hall faces mounting pressure to restore order and many Gotham residents are left wondering if anyone can still be trusted to protect them. GCR Public Transit The last train tracks were laid out in the early 20th Century after years of construction delays, budget slashing, and political setbacks. But despite its challenges, the GCR Public Transit became a crown jewel of Gotham - a sleek, flowing artery running above and below the city’s filthy streets. Now the train platforms have become just another den of crime and urban decay, but when those subway doors opened for the first time, people’s faces lit up with hope. They now had a modern, efficient transportation system connecting neighborhoods that had long felt cut off. The brand-new trains hummed with promise, the clean tunnels gleamed with electric light, and for a brief moment the city seemed – decent.- 2 Comments

Before more information, I want to thank all likes and comments in the last post, so thanks to: @Golan0, @CarstenB, @Barroco Hispano, @Zenist, @brancra, @CaptCity, @JulioC, @TogaMasterJohn, @Honolulu, @Girafarig, @sdrls, @kschmidt, @kergelen, @megie and @Mikeaut1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After we known some San Martin neighborhoods, today we will visit some more imporant district. Our trip will be in the three central districts: Bromelia, Centro and Magnolia. Bromelia Population: 28.145 Bromelia is one of most dense neighborhoods in city and it is separated in two sides by the main avenue Paseo de La Playa which runs west to east throughout the city and divide the neighborhood in two parts. Bromelia have a mix of commercial and residential zoning and there is some interesting things to do: Museu de la Independencia (Museu da Independência/Independence Museum): A museum that initially was created to celebrate the country Independence, but for today have more than that, with larges areas of art exhibitions: An evangelical and a catholic church to show the religious diversity in the city (more like christian diversity than other thing...): And, of course, some beaches (not crowded as Costa Dorada, but still charming): Centro Population: 1.171 Centro is literally the city center, and at the same time is the least populated district. Basically is just a bunch of skyscrapers and highrises (despite the tourism and whatsoever, the people from San Martin and adjacent cities still need work), but there are some specific points that we could know more in Centro: Alcaldía (Prefeitura / City Hall): The two twin buildings where it is administrative office of the mayor, and the large plaza and green space where the people can take a little break, and of course, another church, in this case Iglesia de Santa María, the first church built in city in the late 1700s. And a big mall where people can buy something: Magnolia Population: 10.784 Last but not least, our last district today: Magnolia. It is right side of Downtown, separated by Avenida Magnolia. It is a big district in landmass but is not so populated, due the fact to have the biggest city park within your limits, beyond some interesting landmarks, as we can see now: Starting by the Parque Villanueva, the main city green area (consider the city is limited by space...): Teatro Delgado, the largest city theater, built in 1992 in contemporary architecture. In the top corner we can see also the Museo de la Concordia, one of biggest museums in city: If you prefer some shops, maybe the Rua del Encanto could be an option with various shops, boutiques and restaurants: And to finish, just another pictures from Magnolia, and of courses more beaches: Thanks for your attention, and we will see soon!

I'm starting this topic about megacities or skyscrapers or financial districts. Basically anything thats really dense. I'm starting this topic because I am very interested in other people's cities. I am working on one myself. It is called Lupton. You may have seen it before, but it is much bigger now. I hope you like it ^_^. Wishing everyone a pleasant New Year's Eve/Day! Meant to post this up earlier in December but didn't get around to it. Anyways, I got around to learning how to add stuff from Steam Workshop and downloaded some more modern district styles. The only problem is when I apply only one style to districts, the other styles pop up as well. It's quite frustrating as I wanted to keep the sea port area more an old town feel. But either way, we now have skyscrapers around Premiera and more modern buildings in general. Before downloading the packs, I made a nice little plaza with .. I forget what building this was LOL. But I like how this turned out. Skyscrapers!! I also opened up new city tiles and expanded the metro. Cheers everyone and have a happy new year! Here's to more city building in 2023! Edit 1/10/23: More skyscraper glory. The first image is Life and Death Square. It started as a quaint European style square and now has turned into a modern haven. The next pic has these gnarly super talls. I guess this can be our Billionaire's Row.

So, I've made it a goal for myself and my region to develop the biggest of the big vanilla skyscrapers, doing so as naturally as possible. I'm talking Hogan Wallace and White Insurance, Lind Entertainment, Hurt Enterprise Headquarters, Cahalane Communications, Walkup Tower, Byall Tower, etc. I want the big mommas and daddies. I have nearly two million sims across perhaps two dozen cities. So far I'm only using NAM and the Industry Doubler mods, and I only have NAM for the improved traffic simulation, I just use vanilla intersections, highways, transit and roads. I haven't had any problems developing my cities up to the point that they're at now, I feel like I have a solid understanding of the game, at least enough that I developed this region in perhaps 10-20 hours of gameplay. So here's my problem. The downtown area is not attracting CO$$$ or R$$$. My hope was to make the downtown area the place of residence for the cream of the crop, as well as the location of the tallest skyscrapers. The problem is, it's just not attracting very much in the way of the residents and offices I was hoping to get. R$$ and R$$$ demand is consistently in the negative, as is CO$$$. The residential region is mostly huge tenement slums, and what R$$$ that does develop usually degenerates to R$$ or R$ pretty quickly. The high-wealth offices that have developed also usually degenerate within a moment of cropping up, usually decreasing to CO$$ and sometimes just abandoning outright, due to low demand. I'm really not sure what's going on. There's plenty of plazas in the commercial region, I have public transit (buses and subways) which are well used, I have a commuter airport, convention center and stock exchange. I also have several 4X4 lots zoned specifically with these office buildings and apartment towers in mind. Similarly, the residential region is well stocked. There are plenty of parks. I have a really good education system, with plenty of libraries (including a main library), several museums, more than enough room in the high and elementary schools, as well as a university and a city college, both of which are more than sufficiently funded. Same goes for the health system, there's plenty of hospitals which are sufficiently funded. I have plenty of police and fire coverage. Despite all this, demand for R$$ and R$$$ remains finicky and highly variable and is usually negative. Demand for R$ remains absurdly high, which of course drives the development of the tenements which in turn drives a spike in demand for dirty and manufacturing industries, for which I do not have room in any of the surrounding regions (and do not want to dedicate any more space to than I have to.) All this is immensely frustrating. I really don't know what else I can do to attract the high wealth sims and offices that I am desiring for this downtown region. Really all that I could think of was reducing the pollution from vehicles, which does impact desirability, although I'm not sure it does it enough to justify the consistently negative demand I'm seeing. Any of yall have any tips? Know what I'm missing? Would love your help.

i have a question regarding skyscrapers. right now my region has approx 142k population, but i have 0 commercial skyscrapers, i only have a few skyscrapers for medium income residents and low income residents. and the $$$ commercial demand remains low for the entire region, some of my cities even have negative demand for $$$ commercial office and service. i also have sufficient schools in each city, all of them have access to high school, a couple have access to college. i don't have any demand mods install, i also don't have mods such as the "industrial revolution" or mods that increase high tech employment. do i have to play around with taxes? i saw some videos on YouTube some people get $$$ commercial office skyscrapers within an hour of starting their first city.

Moin I am opening a thread here. I wanted to know which is the tallest structure in your city / region. The tallest structure in my Mexico region is the 610 meter high Aberdeen Spire. It clearly towers above all other buildings in the city.

I’m making a city in Minecraft 1.17 inspired by Hugh Ferriss’s Metropolis of Tomorrow. I took some liberties and made it a square (120x120 zones, 48 wide avenues, 7x7 city blocks) grid. https://imgur.com/a/abfiaQQ City Hall is based off SimCity 4’s unused Large City Hall, with SimCity 2013’s coloration. The Science Skyscraper is based off Le Corbusier’s Towers in the Park but with the park on top of a podium, and an added central tower. The Industry Skyscraper was modified from a 1:1 scale model of the Empire State Building, with some floors removed and the podium redone. The Art Hotel is based off SimCity 4’s Long Building but extended into a symmetric 116x116 structure with 2 internal court yards. The Art Skyscraper will be Neo Gothic, perhaps inspired by the Tribune Tower or Woolworth Building. The Science Lofts will be based off an illustration by Hugh Ferriss. I’m not sure about the Industrial Arts Condominium (maybe Bauhaus, maybe Art Deco, maybe something else) but the Industrial Science’s Apartments will be based off Le Corbusier’s Cellular Apartments.

Hello, Recently, there are bans on glass skyscrapers. The main factor is often climate change. Here are the sources for the first factor: https://www.wired.co.uk/article/stop-building-glass-skyscrapers https://architizer.com/blog/practice/materials/glass-skyscrapers-passe/ https://edition.cnn.com/style/article/why-glass-architecture-is-bad-for-our-cities/index.html https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/new-york-skyscraper-ban-glass-greenhouse-emissions-climate-change-a8882241.html https://ny.curbed.com/2019/4/24/18514203/nyc-bill-de-blasio-glass-skyscraper-ban The second factor is the style. Recently, there is a ban passed to prevent US federal buildings to have postmodern design, designs after 1950s and up. The reason I think is because buildings in the US or in the West in general are first constructed in Greco-Roman style, which turn into lots of modern designs. In 1950s however, architects are "fighting" against the modern architecture and they created the postmodern design that we use today. But, because postmodern designs were came after the first buildings, they're not considered to be "proper" designs of governmental buildings. Also, the government have some attractiveness to modern and older designs for various reasons aside from the first buildings designs, like beauty and "tried and true"-ness. What do you think about glass skyscraper ban? Sorry for my words. Thanks.

Replies: raynev1: Thank you very much. Ke|is: Thank you. The new fractionally-angled buildings from Mattb325 are a joy to work with! {---} Entry 57: Working on Midtown Manhattan Have I a weekend treat for you folks at Simtropolis! Midtown Manhattan is almost complete and there are still several city blocks which need to be complete, but by and large it is done! {---} 1. I started of with placing down the iconic Midtown Manhattan buildings, or as many as I can giving what's available from the STEX and LEX. 2. I also sketched out a loose map of where everything is so that, despite the scale being smaller, it would be proportionally correct- more or less! 3. The Times Square was tricky to build, so for most of it I placed plazas and pedestrian areas since parts of Times Square have something similar. 4. I eventually replaced the original version of Macy's with the new version complete with the air conditioning units and the concrete roof. 5. Part of the fun of recreating Manhattan is taking poetic license with the area, for instance I added Kellydale2003's Royal Bank Plaza Hotel because a) it looked new, b) it had an overhang section and c) there are increasing numbers of newly constructed New York high-rises which are rather incongruous and don't fit with either the art deco or 50s/60s/70s architecture of older high-rises. 6. I managed to find some space for a thin sliver of Hell's Kitchen. 7. Once I develop the west side of this city tile, then this highway will become busier. 8. Adding Madison Square Gardens was a must. 9. Constructing the city blocks around the UN was huge fun! I used many of Mattb325's high-rise hotels to complete the area since it made sense for there to be fancy hotels by the waterfront. Yet the old art deco buildings still make their presence felt... 10. The building lots and fillers have become so great and numerous that there's no point in using the Lot Editor! All I have to do is match up the right buildings to the right fillers. 11. Expect to see more of these mosaics, in future entries, for other New York landmarks. 12. That fractionally angled gap in the skyline is the route towards Times Square. 13. Lower Manhattan meets up with Midtown Manhattan. 14. I'm using Mandelsoft's LRM mod to obtain better night lighting... I may consider using Simfox's Darknite mod too... 15. 16. 17. 18. 19. And out we go... 20. In a few months time this whole area will be complete. 21. 22. {---} Next entry I'm going back to Madison Plains, after that it's another entry from the areas of Manhattan which I haven't finished yet, then one final entry from Madison Plains, then a Brooklyn entry and then I'm going to spend some time on Cindersville and finish off the countryside and woodland areas. Still waiting for diagonal brownstones to really help me complete Brooklyn! Have a great weekend!

The down town disctrict is where most sims commute to. Railway is the main means of public transport in the city, with the station dealing with 80,000 sims a day travelling in from the suburbs. The metro is the second busiest along with buses. Motor vehicles are still the most populous in the city with traffic jams constantly blocking up all major roads in and out of the down town.

So i have decided to come back to this game since 2010?11?ish a long time ago. I have the game on stream already so i can play on win10. I remember the basic beginning but i dont know what i need to do to get to skyscrapers. And im also interested in mods and buildings. And is there a reliable way to do multiplayer yet and if not it there a stable way or something? I do know that NAM existes and i will play with it (also can i have that in multiplayer too if my previous question is possible). Is there anything i should have or need to know. thanks

Concrete Jungle in the Tropical Jungle
Dukestoner posted a City Journal entry in Republic of Metronesia (SC4)
Welcome to Richardson! Richardson is a small city tile holding exclusively commercial lots and some residential (the mayor's gotta live somewhere). Those leafy mansions in other parts of Metro? Tons of those yuppies commute here to work. Richardson is surrounded by medium lots with many residents. Those lots had their respective CBD's (like Middleton), however, space ran out when it came time to build new commercial lots. The space where Richardson is used to be large spacious lots belonging to wealthier residents. The government acquired the land in order to plan the much needed office blocks and the construction boom began in the 1980's. The transport is excellent and planned, mostly subway with a highway connection on the bottom right. Richardson doesn't really have interesting transport features because I made it before installing NAM. Maybe I'll make some changes later down in the road. Perhaps I should add a green space as well. Beautiful hyperdensity Night view One of the few residential spaces of the city. The mayor and many of the state employees live here. Arcadia Metro I - Winchester/New Arcadia
kingofsimcity posted a City Journal entry in Exploring Onyx-Avalon
Replies @Ln X: Thank you! Yeah, this was all mostly built before I discovered the existence of proper diagonal fillers and whatnot. I'll likely revisit some of my older areas in the future and give em a good ole facelift. As for multi-tile mosaics, I definitely have some planned for the future. Just need to get my photo editing skills up to snuff and they'll be good to go! @Themistokles: I live for the region shots . Thanks for the comment! @kschmidt: Thanks! I try to take advantage of space when filling up flat land. @korver: Thanks a lot! Gotta hand it to blunder - his Cascadia controller is godly! @philforhockey51, @Dreadnought, @raynev1: Thank you very much! Cities of the Avalon Valley Welcome to 2015 and the Avalon Valley! This section of the region is part of the Arcadia Metropolitan Region which covers several large cities alongside the Avalon River. As the region develops, this area will eventually be consumed by the even greater Avalon Metro Area. I started building this area towards the end of 2014 into mid 2015, so some of you may find screenshots here that you might've seen before. Without further ado... 1. An overview of the valley. The cities we'll be exploring today include Winchester & New Arcadia. Winchester Winchester was built towards the latter end of 2014 into 2015. This city started off as a bedroom community for New Arcadia but eventually developed into a rather major hub itself. Starting from here I started experimenting with new styles from lurking SC4D and from those that I acquired during my return to ST. Population: 150,000 2. An overview of the city of Winchester, from north looking south. 3. The administrative sector, which lies in the southwestern corner of the city. A curious mix of different government buildings and assorted services. 4. Busy industrial sector located fairly close to the administrative area. This was my first time playing around with any semblance of a rail network with these rail yards. 5. The largest park in the city, located fairly close to downtown. 6. The primary downtown core. My original goal was to have a largely medium-density dominated skyline. However, my skyscraper happy self always manages to find a way... 7. A closer look at downtown. Downtown is dominated by many different architectural styles. With few exceptions, all of the skyscrapers were grown without much pruning. 8. The secondary downtown core towards the northeast. Originally a suburban office center that gradually expanded into several high rises. 9a. BEFORE: The highlight of the city is the primary interchange in the heart of the city known colloquially as the 'Chester, which connects downtown with the A-10 and A-215 freeways. The original route was often congested and was in need of an upgrade.* * to be honest, no one uses the road so I used traffic generators instead GG 9b. AFTER: The upgrade was done with an increase in capacity and beautification of the surrounding area. Engineers also managed to devise an ingenious method to relocate the St.Paul Cathedral in order to make way for a new avenue underpass. 10. A bonus full mosaic of the interchange and surrounding area from the NAM showcase challenge a while back. A decorative W which symbolizes the city lies between the A-10 west to downtown connector loop. Despite all the improvements, planners and engineers alike once again forgot to build a north -> west connector... 11. Another angle of the beast. 12. A small patch of nature between the A-215 northbound connector and A-10. A dirt path snakes under A-10 towards the St. Paul Cathedral. 13. A jumble of highway ramps on A-215. No one seems to be using the fast lane at all. 14. A new substation marks the first exit of the northbound spur route A-215. New Arcadia Due east of Winchester is the city of New Arcadia, the largest city of the Avalon Valley Metropolitan Area. Like Winchester, this city was developed largely in the early portions of 2015 where I started experimenting heavily with different styles. As such, you may find this city to be well... a mess. Population: 460,000 15. An overview of the city. 16. A power corridor with an incorrectly aligned pylon. As long as it works right? 17. Industry along the highway near the local airport. 18. Some gridbusting suburban areas. 19. Projects located near downtown. 20. Stadium and convention center near downtown. I think I'm finally in a good state to attempt some re-lots of these in the future. 21. Interchanges abound! New Arcadia features several major highway junctions. This T-junction connects the A-10 with local bypass route A-310. 22. A-310 goes from southbound to eastbound at the Twister. An unsigned southbound route and a local avenue meet here as well. My ST return screenshot! 23a. BEFORE: Yet another junction that was met with upgrades. This short highway stub connects a downtown parkway with the A-310. 23b. AFTER: With NAM 33 Pre came L1 and wider flyover support. Some MMP and mast lighting improvements were also added to spice up the boring original. Eventually those lights will be torn down in favor of shorter ones. 24a. BEFORE: Downtown at night in its first iteration before I turned into a skyscraper nut: 24b. AFTER: Post-skyscraper frenzy. Regardless, being able to have such a sheer amount of unique BATs grow is certainly mesmerizing to watch. The night shots are definitely worth sacrificing some realism for that supertall concrete jungle. 25. A final daytime overview of New Arcadia. For Next Time We'll move eastwards towards the original city of Arcadia and surrounding suburban communities.- 13 Comments
