Hey everyone!! In all honesty, I was on this page over three years ago, but got sidetracked with life's many obstacles (and other games) but I wanted to come back and give SimCity 4 Deluxe another try. And a grand "Hello!" to those people that were so kind and generous all that time ago. That said, I am pretty much starting new here, not just to SimCity 4 Deluxe but in general. It's been ages since I have played any version of SimCity, but I want to dive right in and see what I can find!!

Hey everyone. Very new and green to this. I am also one of the least tech-savvy people you will ever meet. I was wondering if anyone has a link to an entire (or at least sizeable) list of commercial plugins that create jobs that are ploppable. The least amount of dependencies, the better. I've downloaded just about all the dependencies I can, and they still seem to leave the dreaded big cardboard box on my Mac. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any way (or any mod) for me to just create without having to worry about anything in the game? Just for looks, I really love the gameplay, but I have a really hard time making prosperous regions, sometimes I just want to make a huge region without having to wait a year to make it, I’m sorry if I sound shallow lol.

New to CS - all DLC's or just deluxe?
Jankovic posted a topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Hi guys! Iøm new to citites Skylines and I haven't bought the game yet. I'm considering to buy the steam bundle for beginners, but wondering if it would just be better to buy the deluxe edition and then just mod the hell out of it. What your experince/opinion? Thanks in advance- 3 Replies

So, newbie here. Name is Brandon. I have SimCity 4, but I think I like Skylines better, though I haven't bought it yet. Live in LA, recently having moved. A beautiful skyline and everything, though not so affordable. I love Santa Monica and the Pacific. I remember landing in LA...it was night, but you could see the mountains as you flew lower and you realized you were in that city of dreams. I remember waking up the next day, and walking around Koreatown, so excited about my new home and life. I was trying to by a Metro pass, which was a waste of a hundred dollars. I went down to Western and Wilshire first, because my phone said you could by one there. I thought it was the main place. But, I soon realized no, so I walked a few blocks down to a 7-11 where you could get it. $100 dollars. A waste of money, because everything but the subway was/is free. The buses and the train were free. Still are. And you can jump the subway, because the police are rarely there. More or less it's free. But, yes, I remember the Pacific rising ahead of me as walked down Colorado from the train stop...and there she was in all her beauty. I walked on the sand and put my hands in the Pacific. It was all so beautiful and an ecstasy. Sadly, nothing went according to plan. I went to become a sommelier, but couldn't find work in the hospitality business. That and then my seizures started up again...all that drinking of wine and vodka. I have a Russian soul, as you can see by my username...if you know the ballet. I passed out on the streets after a night of heavy drinking, like you see in those crazy videos of life in Moscow with those Russian alcoholic drinking in their unique way,. Here's how you drink vodka: you shoot it, the vodka chilled and eat after. The thing is, with Moscow drunks, it's straight from the bottle sometimes, right on the bus even. Have to watch these videos guys. The place I was staying was owned by a Iranian, but the manager was this beautiful Russian I fell in love with. The other manager was Russian, and the other Belarusian. It was more or less run by Slavs. Gee, the Russian woman is so beautiful. Such proportions. Tall, like I like a woman. Well, sadly, I am moving to Baltimore now. It's cheaper and it has the best neurosurgeons in the nation. I'm a candidate for brain surgery because of my epilepsy. I started having big seizures again, after they had been treated down to small ones. All that drinking every night. Bottle of wine...vodka. To be a sommelier, you have to drink a lot, but the problem is, epilepsy and alcohol don't mix. Well, long story short, LA is great. Hollywood, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica. I'll miss her...the Russian woman and the city. As to city simulations, I got into it after my dad gave me the first SimCity for Nintendo when I was like nine. And I fell in love with them. And so, here I am. If you are ever in LA and need a cheap place to stay, The Rumi is very affordable with weekly rates. It's in Koreatown, close to downtown. No roaches or bedbugs. Pay for your first couple of nights via a travel site and then say you want to go weekly or monthly. And please, don't think the Russians are rude because they are so serious. Trust me, the Russians have a saying, "He who smiles without a reason, is an idiot." They don't smile at you, the clerks, at the stores in West Hollywood (where most of Russian Americans live), but they all open up when they get to know you. It's simply their culture. They don't do forced smiles that Americans do in customer service, nor "smile without a reason".

After rediscovering SC4 and some play around on another region I decided to give it a try and fill a complete region with cities and areas and see if I can get my population into the millions This is the start, a medium city with low residential and high commercial, surrounded by 2 areas of high industrial activity. The region The center city, called Center town One of the two industrial areas, called Maasvlakte

Hello again Community (though in a different section now). Due to the fantastic GOG discounts I thought "Meh... Why not, I'll get myself a copy of SC4". I remember I liked the region mechanics in SC4 and a significant deal of control that one has over the terrain features. Still, it does not change the fact that I have never managed to build anything remotely successful in this game... Therefore, I'd like to ask - do you have any tips for the beginners? How shall I start a city? Why, for the love of gods, are there 20+ occupant types in this game? Why none of the urban strategies from SC3000 work in this game? Any help will be much appreciated.

Hello all, I used to play SimCity 4 on my PC years ago and eventually after playing it for years with absolutely no mods whatsoever I discovered Simtropolis. I downloaded and successfully used the NAM and a few other mods (buildings etc) then I had children and no longer had time for Simming. I have recently found myself tempted with SimCity again and I’ve just downloaded it for my new MacBook Pro. (App Store version). It seems to run very well. I was wondering and hoping someone could give me some pointers as to how easy it would be for me to download and install the NAM again for my Mac version and also give some details on whether it would affect the performance at all (in a bad way). Also I used to enjoy listening to custom tunes in the game, but I am not sure how I would add music files to the correct folder on my Mac... Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I saw the recommendations for other posts to start a thread not only to seek help in bettering my BATs and LOTs, but also to avoid posting anything too worthless to the exchange. Constructive criticism welcome. also is there something else besides gmax that can do the same thing? It looks like it is no longer around?

Old newbie... new oldie? I'm back to the game and need some help
ROB EIS posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
PLEASE forgive me if I didn't post this in the appropriate forum. I'm lost. HELP!! I played SC4 up until about 6 years ago, then suddenly quit because...well, I can't remember why. But I kinda remember how to do certain things, and other things I need reminders. For instance: When I download custom content, what folder does it go in? What keyboard combination do I use for cheats? (I should be embarrassed to say I cheat ) I downloaded NAM 36 - do I need any special addons to use it? Have there been any MAXIS updates or patches for the game? Do I need any new DLLs? If I download new content, does it come with a ReadMe file that tells me which dependencies I need, and where to find them? Basically I knew how to do everything 6 years ago, and I had all the patches and files and dependencies needed to play the game. I just need to get caught up on how to get back into the swing of things. Thanks so much for allowing me to join the website. As for me, well...there's not really a whole lot to tell. I'm a humble soul who generally isn't good at talking about himself. But a little bit...I'm a Christian introvert (yes, we exist) - an INFJ. I love structural & landscape/nature photography. I'm a mid-lifer, unemployed due to medical issues. My interests are photography (did I mention ), reading, nature, antiques, flea markets, festivals, traveling/road trips, hiking, video games, board games. I generally like a number of different things I'm sure I'm forgetting. -
Brand newish with Questions. Grab your coffee, or beer!
blacksugar419 posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Ok, so I have many questions. For example, I did a search on the STEX with the word "Airport" and all I see is individual pieces. My question is, is there only individual pieces to download, or is there a full package somewhere that I am not seeing wrapped up together with some other stuff and perhaps thats why im not finding it? I couldve swore I seen a few years ago on a youtube video (dont even remember who) mention an airport and or seaport pack among many other things. Also, with all the different little airport pieces, none of them are made by the same person it appears, so my next question is, are they compatible with each other? are they even functional for it to matter if they are compatible? Also when I search the term airport on the STEX, and sort by relevancy, there is police stations, maps and stuff nothing to do with airports, so there is a lot of work to do. Not complaining, I have no suggestions on making anything better lol, just noting how my lack of focus, overly confused ass is here! Im sure there is something very simple that I am missing. I ran across a cul-de-sacs thing to download, and realised, I used to have some sort of cul-de-sacs on the older version of NAM i had. and realised it is no longer there in my game. is that accurate, did they remove that? I noticed the removed alot of things from it actually, unless it didnt install correctly? I updated from version 32 I believe Regarding PLEX.. Im assuming thats nothing I need as that is for creating stuff correct? I can barely tie my shoes and breathe at the same time, ya know what im saying? Thank you in advance for any replies or views or pointing in the right direction. I will delete this in the case of being shown similar threads. -
NAM36 Tutorial: Starting Out with RHW interchanges and Draggable Ramps (DRI)
Naomi57 posted a City Journal entry in Breezy Point, East New York: SimCity 4 tips and tricks (NAM36)
NAM36 Tutorial: Starting Out with RHW interchanges and Draggable Ramps (DRI) On a 6 point scale, the RHW-2 rates as Beginner and the RHW-4 and MIS as Intermediate: Beginner ► Intermediate ► Advanced ► Difficult ► Sophisticated ► Expert Some of the easiest Real Highway (RHW) features to use in the beginning are RHW-2 (single tile two-way), RHW-4 (two tile two-way) and MIS (single tile one-way). These are powerful features, with flexibility, ease-of-use, high speed limit, and high road capacity. The humble looking RHW-2 looks like a Maxis vanilla Road (RD-2), and acts like it in most ways, but it allows 3 TIMES the speed limit and 2½ TIMES the road capacity! Just be aware that there's no pedestrian access on RHW-2, so you'll need to connect it up to regular Streets, Roads and Avenues to zone residential, commercial and industry lots. The elegant MIS roads might look small, but they are just as powerful as the RHW-2, and are the foundation for high capacity interchanges. MIS roads are basically like a super-fast one way road ... but once again, there's no pedestrian access on highways! The RHW-4 is the RHW/NAM answer to the Maxis vanilla Highways (MHW), with the same speed, but 33% higher road capacity. IMPORTANT WARNING: The NAM36 RHW interchange tools are designed to work only in orthogonal layouts, not diagonal. If you're working on a diagonal interchange, you'll need the old vanilla Maxis Highways (MHW). That's one of the key reasons that I'll never install the NAM Project Symphony (Maxis Highway override mod). Highway Tools The RHW-2 is simple and draggable, accessed from the RHW-2 tool at the top of the Highways menu, just as easy-to-use as Maxis vanilla Road (RD-2). RHW-4 requires two Starter Pieces, from the Starters menu item on the Highways menu. Use Home/End keys to switch direction and orientation. Take careful note of the yellow line, which runs on the left inside edge of each carriageway (or right inside edge if using a UK right-hand drive installation of SimCity 4). Press the Tab key once using the same Starters tool to access the "MIS Starter Piece", with the same Home/End and yellow lines as the "RHW-4 Starter Piece". For both RHW-4 and MIS, once you have the starter pieces, you can drag them out using the all-purpose RHW-2 tool. Draggable Ramps (DRI) and a Compact Diamond Interchange Although the RHW-4 is one of the easier RHW features to work with, you will have to master on-off ramps, and the best technique to use is the Draggable Ramp Interface (DRI). It's worth investing some time in your Sandbox learning to use these features. The combination of this DRI Draggable Ramp Interface cheat sheet and the following short YouTube tutorial, will get you started. https://youtu.be/b2PeDUDlwvw?t=6 Network Addon Mod Version 33 Teaser 1: RealHighway Draggable Ramp Interfaces Extension, Part 1 by Ganaram Inukshuk For RHW-2, it's ease of use is such that you don't even need ramps! It can be used as an arterial road interfacing directly with other roads with 90 degree intersections, very similar to the Maxis vanilla Road tool (RD-2), but with high speed and high capacity. I talk some more about using RHW-2 as an arterial road and minor highway, on this other post of mine, RHW-2 and Traffic Management on an Island City. Even so, you'll find that ramps, coupled with the simple little RHW-2, delivers powerful options for high capacity suburban interchanges, like this very simple diamond interchange below. Be prepared that highways need lots of space! The above picture is as compact as it gets, with the A1 ramps starting 6 tiles from the Maxis vanilla one-way road (OWR-2) underpass. I used a pair of Maxis vanilla one-way roads (OWR-2) as the underpass for this little (18x3) feeder-collector interchange, but you can also use RHW-2 as the underpass in a similar configuration, for a smallest possible RHW-2 x RHW-2 interchange, only 13 tiles long and 3 tiles wide. The little MIS slip roads coming off the ramps are similarly high speed and high capacity, and can cross other roads at 90 degrees, as shown in the screenshot above. Whether doing a tiny little RHW-2 x RHW-2 interchange (13x3 tiles), or a slightly bigger RHW-4 x RHW-2 interchange (13x4 tiles), you'll need this other, all important tool, the "1-Level Flexible Height Transition", selected from the FLEXHeight menu item in the Highways menu, then press the Tab key 2 times (in NAM36). This piece will transform into whatever highway type you feed into it, and you can drag the transformed highway from it's ends using the all-purpose RHW-2 tool at the top of the Highways menu. The brown tile goes where the underpass is allowed to cross underneath the elevated L1 highway, taking 4 tiles to rise from L0 (ground level) to L1 (7.5 metres). This "1-Level Flexible Height Transition" is essential to building most RHW interchanges, and is one of the most flexible of RHW tools. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: See the full catalog of my NAM tutorial posts linked in the comments under this other Simtropolis post of mine ... Hello all! I started getting back into SimCity 4 for the first time in over a decade a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say: Thanks so much for all of the work you've all done here, it's been an invaluable resource for me. I've learned so much, and found a bunch of great resources (the NAM especially rules). I could really use some help though, and I haven't been able to find the kind of tutorials that I need. There's great stuff for getting a city up and running, and great stuff for all kinds of more specific cities. But I keep running into problems whenever it comes time to start building up -- how do you transition from medium to dense? As soon as I start doing that, I end up with huge amounts of "no job" tags, mostly from high wealth people moving in and then not having a job. Are there any resources or tutorials that I haven't seen yet for making that jump properly (or maybe even just knowing when to do it)? At what point should I be adding a subway system? I have one in my 200k city, but hardly anyone was actually using it. Thanks in advance for any advice

Hey I made this video as a tutorial for beginners on how to build their first city from scratch. It is not the definite answer for creating a city, it is a brief guide for beginners of the game. Perhaps you will watch this video and give me your thoughts and feedback about it. thanks

Hey everyone! It's so great to be here in this SimCity community! I am new to SimCity - I played the original eons ago, so honestly, it's like starting fresh and new to the game! I would love to dive right in and share on the fun, but I wanted to make a quick post here, saying "Hey!" to everyone, and to ask if you guys have any advice for a newbie...? I am playing SimCity 4 Deluxe - looks like an amazing game! Also, I heard that SimCity 4 allows players to make their own icons, buildings, etc. Which I think is cool, can anyone shed some light on how that works? Any help is appreciated! Thanks so much!

Hi all, It's been around 10 years since I've been on here. I used to play a lot back in the day and am looking to maybe get back to SC4 since my interest in urbanism never went away (I now work in real estate development, in no small part due to SimCity). I have a couple beginner questions to help me get started. First and foremost, I saw that Steam carries SC4. Would playing on Steam impede my ability to use mods? Also, what have been the biggest additions since 2010 or so (BATs/mods)? Have there been any mods that change gameplay and/or the underlying mechanics of the game? Thanks!

Hello from Oregon. I'm ummar0, and I've discovered that my basic Origin account includes the SimCity Complete Edition (includes 2 games and all 5 digital content packs). I hadn't played for at least 10 years, so I'm very rusty (knees included). I've been bashing my way around in the game, trying to re-learn the basics. Slow but steady, if I screw it up, meh... I'd love to be able to use some of the absolutely awesome content in STEX, but there doesn't seem to be any way to add it to the game. No plug-in file or anything for custom content, I could create a file, but have no clue where I would put it! If anyone out there has any bright ideas as to how I can squeeze it into gameplay, please let me know. So, happy gaming/simming to all and I look forward to trying to keep up with this forum.

Hi this is my first post! I have a million questions, I don't know where to start. It's taken me a while to get going but here I am. So far i have managed to: Install SimCity Deluxe with discs Patched to B638 Patched again to 640 night and day Downloaded and installed NAM36 Created a cmd target file to load secdrv before running SC4 and added in parameters to restrict CPUcount:1. I can now play!!! Woohoo. I've racked up a few hours messing around and have some initial questions: So the Network Traffic Configuration tool that comes with NAM36.... I just run that once, save the default setting, close it, then run SC4? Simtropolis and SC4Devotion are to the two main websites for downloading plugins? Simtropolis's are called STEX, and SC4 Devotion are called LEX? What sort of things do I have to worry about from compatibility perspective, before I start filling my cities with stuff that breaks other stuff, and cant be undone later? With this in mind, what are, say, the top 10 things to download that will fill my choices of RCI buildings and utilities etc, that also come with accurate descriptions.... For example I don't want to download a new power plant if it doesn't tell me what it's running costs are and how much power it provides. I like aesthetic cities, as well as organised transport networks, and structured zoning. What are all main differences with all the new road networks that come with NAM? Should I just choose the type with the largest capacity and speed?

So i have decided to come back to this game since 2010?11?ish a long time ago. I have the game on stream already so i can play on win10. I remember the basic beginning but i dont know what i need to do to get to skyscrapers. And im also interested in mods and buildings. And is there a reliable way to do multiplayer yet and if not it there a stable way or something? I do know that NAM existes and i will play with it (also can i have that in multiplayer too if my previous question is possible). Is there anything i should have or need to know. thanks

This is my region. There are a few questions I have with it. 1. How come my ferries are actually seeing use despite the bridge (Which also has bus service)? There is only one real destination, and that was already covered by bridge ( I built one between Aicadea's Step and sikigrat). 2. Should I remove my rial line for monorail? I mean, most of it IS passenger rail... 3. The highways of Aicadea's Step are all overcrowded. How would I solve this? Only the highways have overcrowding (and yes, I AM using NAM). 4. Is there any way to make road overpasses without the NAM puzzle pieces? Because I hate them. A lot. 5. Is there any way to make rivers and creeks coming down from mountains? 6. I can never put a seaport in the sikigrat industrial district shoreline. I'm starting to think it's impossible... 7. Any suggestions to do in this region? (BTW, all Elevated rail is monorail. As you can see, the ferry routes are VERY strange. some go off to areas WITHOUT CITIES.... BTW, only Valencia, Aicadea's Step, Exsri Pass, and Sikigrat have significant work to them...) Note: Valencia is a mixed (slums) residential with a small amount of man. industrial. It's mostly a sleeper community, for Sikigrat and Aicadea's Step. Exsri Pass is almost entirely sleeper community high density residential, with a small amount of commercial for the sims to shop without having to go downtown. Prices are pretty expensive there tho, since it's only about 4 5x5 blocks in area... Aicadea's Step is mixed commerical and residential (with a small manufacturiing industry I'm slowly displacing)- but has about 2x more jobs than people. SIkigrat is almost entirely industrial and commerial. I made it a major High-tech capital- sort of a "Silicat Valley", in a sense. There is a small amount of residential, but not much, and not very sucessful. It's failed to attract many, and it's almost entirely slums.

Hello everyone! I started a new city. I decided to play on the Diamond Coast map, because I live near the Puget Sound, and quite frankly, the idea of living away from a large body of water makes me a tad claustrophobic. (I manage to do this just fine in real life though, I never notice a difference when I travel...) I could have chosen the more Temperate cliff map, but the geography and the way the highway simply ended in the city made urbanization very unlikely for this city.. Because I am boring and uncreative, instead of making a unique, new name, I just borrowed the name of the first tropical (ish?) city that was once Islamic (heritage ftw)) and added either the location, (N, S, E, W) or "New" to the name. I am also a total newbie, so I was hoping some of the pros here could help me. For all practical purposes, I am playing Vanilla, even though I may download some mods down the road. I made a simple round-a-bout to connect the highway to the main arterial 8- lane road. To the left, I have my residential area. I plan to continue expanding to the left to eventually give the citizens an Ocean view, to create some high land value homes. To the right, I plan to develop what is currently an Industrial district, into the CBD of the city. To the far right, I plan to add a highway, which will lead to the fertile land at the city border, where I will make a Farming district. Along the way, I may make another Residential, a new Industrial, or even a large commercial. So how is my plan? Is my city set to succeed? Or is it going to end up with Train jams stretching for a good 50 miles and Businesses unable to operate because resources can't reach them? (*COUGH*, last big city, *COUGH*)

Lance vs the blender dragon
lancedragon posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
As promised, here is the topic where i'm gonna keep you updated on my blender progress Well tonight session was 3 hours + and consisted into set up a very simple scene made of very simple assets (chairs, table ).My main concern were the keybinds ,as they are quite numerous... I didn't faltered and jumped on my mouse and keyboard and started working (following the tutorial i found in my native language).Things were progressing steadily as shown below I did manage to create a chair and a table without too much difficulty ,until i realized i made the table legs too short ...Tried to fix it by myself,by reextruding them well that didnt work as planned ... and found myself with a double layered table legs . Things started to get a bit too messy, and i was too lazy to look on the internet for an immediate fix.So ctrl N back to square one... This time i started with a new table made sure the legs had the proper lenght ,saved the object in my library and started a new session to create my chair. Those more familiar with Blender has probably realized my mistake, i rapidly found myself with 2 different scenes, struggled for more than 25 mn to import one to another ...until i found that if you want to import an object from a scene to another u have to press alt f1 select the scene and open the subfolder then object ,only then you can import pretty much anything you want from a scene to another Next was creating the plane that was going to mimick the office in which both the chairs and the table were going to stage for my awesome final pics for this thread. Obviously things didn't go as expected, as i made some room on my screen to create the plan i needed. I moved both the chair and the table into 2 separate layers. After getting done with all i had to do meaning create the plan, put the chair and the table in the proper place and rotation and reunite all the 3 of them in the same layer and rendered the scene. It was then that Blender launched a sneak attack, throwing at me a no lamp or camera present in current scene da fuk . Don't really know what happened, probably put them into another layer, tried to fix it myself by replugging a camera and a lamp on dat scene failed miserably .As shown below Well decided to not left my pride in the blender dragon lair ,i plugged a few more bucks inside the machine and started again from square one. Finally i manage to get the result i was hoping for, took me 2 more hours than planned . My thought on this session: - if you start with blender and if you encounter a weird result DO NOT TRY to fix it by yourself ,check the internet for your answers or things will get gradually more messy resulting in a very hurtful ctrl n -Blender is one of the most counterintuitive program i ve ever met since divinity sin 2,you have to think every action you make before even touching you keyboard or your mouse or you ll end up with weird results . That is concluding my very first report i hope you ll enjoy it,because i definitively enjoyed the session even if sometimes i builded a fairly decent amount of frustration. Have a good ,it s time for me to enjoy some CS and see you soon for Lance vs the dragon blender episode 2 -
Picking up my macbook pro tomorrow. Needed a new one, decided to go high end JUST so I could play CSL Questions. My best buy is at the Mac Game Store 15.99 for Deluxe CSL... will I have to download any patches, seeing that CSL Deluxe was released quite some time ago? Because I'm not buying directly from Steam, do I have to go there and register or anything? Feedback welcome... and advice of course.
