About this City Journal

I'm working on a project recreating Gotham City in SC4. I plan on building the region in 3 stages, starting at Gotham's founding date of 1635.

GOTHAM circa 1635     Population: 0

Map credit to Hamish. I've altered a few things such as the width of Gotham River, and adding the islands of New Gotham to the East, Amusement Mile in the North Western corner, and the infamous Narrows situated between Downtown and Midtown.

I'm basing the street grid off of this Gotham City map by AspieCrow

Stage 1 will be Gotham from 1635 to 1790, or 155 years in each city, and will focus on the street layout and agriculture. There will be a few condensed areas mainly around the ports of Gotham with low-income residents. In Old Gotham, the wealthy Five Founding Families settled near what will one day become Grant Park. As time goes on, they eventually scatter throughout the 5 boroughs of the city.

Gotham Nights

Hi, all! Boy, does it feel good to be back. The nights spent city building while ST was down were pretty dark and foreboding... much like Gotham! This is a re-posting of my previous entry from March, but unfortunately, I didn't save what was written. I thought I would have more downtime at work this week, but that turned out not to be the case. So, I'm going to just showcase the buildings and landmarks, without the stories about the lives of everyday Gothamites. Hope you still enjoy!

“Gotham City. Clean shafts of concrete and snowy rooftops. The work of men who died generations ago. From here, it looks like an achievement. From here, you can’t see the enemy…” - from Batman: Year One Happy Holidays to all! I hope the new year brings plenty of great city building to everyone out there. It's been a long hiatus and I'm glad to finally be able to post...

Gotham is back with a BOOM! A population boom, that is. From 1850 to 1910, waves of immigrants docked on Gotham's port, and the city swelled by 600%. Three and half million people now call Gotham home... most live in terrible slum tenements and the corrupt city government does little to provide vital services. Some turn to crime out of desperation... (Gotham in 1910) (Typical slum neighborhood) (Crime levels have reached triple-digits) With the turn of the 20th century, Gotham spent a large...

[low guttural voice] Thursday, October 13th. Two months of recreating Gotham have turned me into a nocturnal animal... It's a big city. I can't zone everywhere... Lately, I've been focusing on naming all the main streets based on the map in the "About this CJ". I've placed Signpost markers for the dirt paths on the city's edges and at intersections, for now. As time goes on, they will all be upgraded to cobblestone roads ubiquitous in the 19th century, and finally, to the contemporary asphalt one-way...

The Five Founding Families have ruled over Gotham City since the 18th century. At first, they all lived in a tight-knit community in Old Gotham. After the American Revolutionary War, the families spread throughout Gotham's boroughs and exerted their influence on its development. None had more influence and power than The Wayne Family. They started out in Old Gotham like the rest, but sometime in the mid-1700s settled in the upper-class township of Bristol, just across the Gotham River. The...

The Hope of Gotham

Stage 1 of my Gotham City project is almost complete! My hope is to build the city as a real-world megacity would evolve throughout time. From 1635, farms spread on the islands and coasts around Gotham, laying the network of dirt roads that will one day become the mean streets of this crime-ridden city. GOTHAM in the 1700s. Stage 1 will be complete at the end of the 18th century, or approximately 155 in game years. The first factory in America was built in 1790, and that's when I'll introduce dirty...
