      Outages - STEX Test Ready   09/22/2018

      Update: 24 Sept, 2018 @ 21:00 EDT All seems to still be working with quick response times. As mentioned below we will continue this test until tomorrow evening before adding guests back to the settings. Tis now my bedtime so please don't break anything while I sleep. But, if anything seems wacky, please post in the ST Bugs Thread. Update: 24 Sept, 2018 @ 19:45 EDT We've been up for one hour with this STEX test and so far server loads are looking good, page load times seem normal, and avatar hover overs are mostly zippy fast. The plan is to run with this configuration until tomorrow evening to give us plenty of time to see if the site stays responsive before we add the STEX access back for guests. (Rest assured, dear guests, we are not trying to force you to join ST. It's just that we have to figure out what has been causing the site to totally crash.) Update: 24 Sept, 2018 @ 18:41 EDT We've brought the STEX back online for members only as our next test. This test might also overload the site as there is some underlying bug which we have not yet identified. Both Cyclone Boom and I are here to keep an eye on the performance. Should ST get overloaded and go down you will first start seeing long page load times and eventually 522/524 errors from Cloudflare. At that point CB will work his magic and then you'll start seeing a 403 Forbidden error. (This means all access is blocked so the site can re-recover.) And then in about 10-15 minutes we'll bring it back without the STEX again should this bad stuff happen causing the aforementioned site crash. See also: My initial Bugs Thread post and CB's recent post there saying we are up in test mode for members. Update: 23 Sept, 2018 @ 22:22 EDT The site stayed up a wee bit longer, but still succumbed to whatever is causing the trouble. At this point we are taking the STEX and the Gallery offline, but will try to keep the forums going. Update: 23 Sept, 2018 @ 18:59 EDT Cyclone Boom has optimized all database tables which is sort of like defragmenting a hard drive. We've brought the site back online and are hoping it helps with the problems. The previous message (below) still applies until we are sure everything is fixed. Previous message: Simtropolis is experiencing random spikes of heavy server load and excessive lag to the point the whole site becomes unresponsive. We've been taking it offline to let it catch up with the load and then bringing it back. This is the best stop gap measure we have at the moment. If you are creating a new topic or post I suggest making a copy and paste to a text editor before clicking the submit button as we can't be sure it won't go offline at the wrong moment for you.

      A Separate Bug   09/24/2018

      We are also having trouble with the Contact Us thinger. I do receive them (and they come to me as an email), but now when I reply they immediately bounce back. This could be due to peeps providing invalid email addresses or it could be an actual problem. I do reply to all of them so if you don't get a response within 24 hours you might consider sending me a private message here on ST instead. -Cori (PM me here.)

Greeeeeeetings, all - Welcome to my humble hut, here I'll present my current BAT projects, old projects that i rescued from the depths of eternal damnation and oblivion, as well as various other side projects, such as Automata models (models for the vehicles that drive around in the game) It's nice to be back into this, It's been over 7-8 years since I last touched a model. And as you'd expect I am a little out of practice, I'm trying to learn all the little tricks and doohickeys in 3ds Max 2011. Aside from that I do have something to show for now, I figured I'd start with something simple, so here's your average filler 1960s concrete building. Now as you can see, It has some render issues on the side there, suppose I'll have to remodel some stuff, it doesn't seem to like the model for the sidewall very much, Mighty funky indeed. Close up, just 'cos they look cool.
  2. Hi all you lovely people of Simtropolis! I have some exciting news to share with you all, because the last few months I've been hard at work on a Content Creator Pack for Cities: Skylines called European Suburbia! It will be available the 19th of October (same patch as Green Cities). It's a theme for low density residential (I always missed how the European theme didn't have low density houses) based of houses in England, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands. There aren't a whole lot of pictures on the store page, so I grabbed a few more myself - you can check them all out here. I'd also like to say thank you to all of you - I've gotten so many tips, feedback, ideas and support here, which has helped me get to this point! <3
  3. Hi. Since i have two steam accounts i decided to start working on a realistic European city with stark contrasts to Kendrick (my US inspired series). I will of course cover many of the differences between US and EU cities as far as urban planning, infrastructure etc etc. But also follow a different narrative this time around; one of success, wealth, constant demand & development. In our first episode we start out small, building a central train station, the surrounding neighbourhood, and some basic initial infrastructure by rail and highway to get the city going. Hope you enjoy!
  4. So a few years ago I had a go at bating. Unfortunately due to computer issues I never got around to finishing any of them, and long since lost the files. A bit of a shame really; I was nearly done modeling these two sets of buildings, all they really needed were nightlites and some desaturating of the textures. Oh well. Last weekend, for some odd reason, I decided to reinstall SimCity 4 and play it. But, after downloading a ton of new content, I found I still couldn't make the cities I wanted (mostly modern urban Dutch). The first thing that bothered me was the lack of varied in utilities, specifically pumping stations. So I looked up some modern pumping stations here in the Netherlands, and, the idiot that I am, downloaded gmax to see if I could make something of it: The first one I had a go at was a largish sewage pumping station: Unfortunately this is the material it is made out of, and I am not quite sure how to texture this. I have half a mind of simply modelling the panels instead of texturing it. In the mean time I decided to model another pumping station, a small drainage pump this time: It has the same issue with texturing, so oh well. While looking through pumping stations here in the Netherlands, I came across this little thingy and decided it also really needed modelling (for a change it is an actual ground water pumping station!): It is actually coming along quite nicely. I just need to finish the doors, add the rain gutter and some roof junk. I possibly need to figure out how to model a few pumps to fill the large frontal roof if the windows are going to be transparant (ugh...) At the same time I was really annoyed by the power utilities in the game. So yeah... I came across this funky little substation, and since it takes no effort to model had a go at it: Not sure if there is interest in this sort of thing though. I also created this substation (could also work as an industrial lot). I want to make it a wall to wall lot, but, as the roof is overhanging to the sides, I don't know how to go about it. And, if I ever feel confident enough to do so, I'd love to have a go at this power plant. The turbine halls are simple enough, but the chimney seems daunting. Anyway; thoughts and suggestions? Compliments or hate is also welcome. Oh, and IrfanView apparently does not like transparency. I hope you can ignore the black outlines on the images, they are not supposed to be there.
  5. Hi All, I know, I will find everything in the internet, but it is for me extremely time consuming, and I would like to come fast to the point. Since a long time already I want to use some specific mods to SimCity 4, and I would like to pay around 30 EUR for someone who would like to help me with that. 1. Using SimCity 4 with European Buildings, Streets etc. + in general how to enrich building library with landmarks and so on. 2. Adjusting the size of the cities - I saw very large cards on the internet, but don't know how to create those. 3. Different Architecture over the time: I know there is a functionality that changes the architecture of new buildings over the time. I would like to do this in an european style. If you would like to help me, let me know here, a skype session would be the best to go through the installation process etc. If you want more money, let me know. Also my style is different to others. Once I finish some part, sometimes I destroy whole area and start with better sense. If anyone can help me with some newbie tricks to video making, I much appreciate!!// Few days ago, after I reached 1600 played hrs in this game I decided make something, whats close to me (i think its bad sentence, still best what i can do :X). I was thinking how decrease workshop items, especially buildings. I wanted massively use vanilla european buildings, so there wasnt much to think about. Plan: (every Sunday I am updating stuff) My plan isnt build Prague in 1:1. Anyway it is impossible yet. But I want build some well-known places at its own positions to create similar shape of city. In final phase I want have over 250k people at maximum! I am big detailer, so building blocks/districts take much time for me (I am too thinking about every prop I place) Currently stage: Placing rails First step: is create river Vltava. Shipping canal Podbaba (you can see on screen below) Change terrain heights to right ones, build around coasts. Create rail system (its is huge, huge system which I am looking forward!)     Hello best community on this planet! Few days ago I was watching videos on YT, then I saw creativeDEX. He impressed me so much! I took his idea of highway reconstruction/works and I decided I make it functional if it would be possible. This version seems best what I tried. Hope you enjoy guys and let me know, what you think!   10. Lake Pointless - Number 2

    Hi there! It has been a long time since my last post. Events in real life, the state of the world and of the political situation developing in my own country and elsewhere have made games seem a little pointless to me. I have been checking in to the site quite frequently and although I post rarely, i really value the community here, so I would like to dedicate this post to all of you reading (and those not reading). However, I do want to give a couple of special shoutouts for people who have really helped inspire / create some superb content to this wonderful game: RSC/MGB204. All the texture unification work is incredible, but what really counts are the really detailed replies to my (and many other people's) questions in all the forums, I could not have got all these Japanese overpasses and whatnot working without your wonderful tutorial on installing them. LnX - just for mindboggleingly consistent uploads that I try to copy (badly - please see images below). Finally Fasan, who may be gone, but the pictures that remain on SC4D are for my personal preferences, the best pictures ever created using the medium of Simcity 4. Enough about me, here are some pictures: This is an overview of the city on the shores of Lake Pointless. Last Entry covered the suburban area to the right of this image and the fields beyond. This time we are looking at the northern end of the lake and the town around it in more detail. Ok, it's a highway interchange, but it was a slightly unusual one, so here is a picture Simcity 4 doesn't have many aggressive youths, but those that have a bit too much aggression can run like crazy on these football pitches, which should keep them out of mischief. There is some need for a fence to stop the ball going into the busy road, but times are tight! First 'flipped' image. I really like the totally different feel you get from doing this to a picture. A railway, some retaining walls overview of the area more flipping. Here in the suburbs the other side of the highway. suburbs giving way to industry crossing the bridge now onto the other bank of the river I wanted to try something a bit clever, and i'm not sure it has been wholly successful, but here is a combination of game water and MMP water, and lots of retaining walls. I guess the MMP side will improve with practice. A jumbled little neighbourhood of mainly working class homes. railway crossing. I really enjoythe reskinned japanese overpasses. This is not the most spectacular use of them! A local school surrounded by suburbia. Looks washed out because i forgot to change the contrast Old mills on the edge of town by the lake shore Now we get into the proper city centre. Trying to keep the shapes interesting! I know there is quite a mix of building styles but diagonals are really hard to find! close to the station are some very grand buildings wider overview of the city centre The Cricket ground (Americans and other Europeans, if you don't know what this is ask an Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lankan//English/Australian etc.) the library, the station and then the waterfront in mosaic. Different perspective. I love the distinctive library BAT in the middle. Now back across the river to finish off the rest of the city centre. I dont know why I couldn't make the water look nice here with MMPs, but once I had built everything was too scared to take serious remedial action in order to spruce up the water! closeup of the same area. why not stop for a coffee (or Tea if that way inclined) in the waterfront coffee shop. More quayside Finally my favourite of the lot, horizontally flipped mosaic of the small station down to the quayside, taking in some parkland and diagonals en-route. Hope you enjoyed

    Hello Citybuilders After a lot of years building a city in SimCity 4 (Burgerwaard) I have made the transfer to Cities Skylines. This game is very nice with very nice graphics, and with the community building loads of mods there is nothing standing in your way to build a dream city.. So you guess it right, thats is exactly what i have been started. When i am building live you can watch my stream at Twitch if you like. It is a very basic stream no fancy stuff, just building in cities skylines with background music. I do not speak or chat in my stream beacuse that would take to much time off the building time Click here for my Twitch Channel My Cities Skylines City A long long time ago there was a river where Otters used to live. Some people decide to live next tot that river and build a small dam and a few homes. Den Otterdam was born. The citizens long long time ago, decided to honor the litte Otter animals in there City Shield. Welcome to the city of Soon i am going to start with this city journal, mind that i do this for a hobby and that it is a ton of work to build a custom city in Cities Skylines with a lot of handplacing props and stuff.. Everything in the city is Dutch named but i will provide English translation. Also i need to make a lot screenshots, adjust them and then place them on the journal so stay tuned.. In the mean time you get a few nice teasers of Den Otterdam in progress (please keep in mind that it is a city in development)

    I've made some progress with the downtown area. The first shot is of the "main passenger station" (Which already is quite under dimensioned regarding the size of the city ) Bridges with traintracks leading towards the station. In the background you see two modern office buildings: One of the island (im planing of having 2-3 island connected to the downtown area: A new office building taking shape: A "vacant" plot, which soon enough will house a new building: Thats all for now, stay tuned!

  16. Part 5: Gabrielle

    Expect a lot of text for this update as I want to talk about plans and ideas for the future and what is currently happening for this map. Ignore it if you want. I'm sorry it's been a while since the last entry. I have done a tonne of stuff in game since the last update, got a bit carried away and didn't post anything. But don't worry, here is the next update! So, I only have one new building for the theme, despite the long time, but I'm probably going to have two new buildings for the next update as I'm getting used to making them and I'm learning from my past mistakes. I feel like I need to focus more on the theme and less on the city. I've only got 5 buildings for this theme, and I need way more before I can make a proper city out of them. But here is the building. I had some scaling problems that took a few days to sort out. I should have made an update in the beginning of the month, but I kinda needed to work on the model a bit. Anyway, it's done. Just showing that the LOD has its own illumination map. And there we go. Sorry about my rambling, but I need some excuses, I mean, explanations for my absence. Anywayyyy. So, remember that city I showed briefly last update? (I don't really know if it's actually a city or just a big town near the main city) Well, I've really progressed with it, and I've developed a sort of base for how my main city is going to be designed. This journal will be something new as it isn't going into the rural farming areas, but now into the more built up urban areas. Anyway, for comparison, here was Gabrielle before: And here it is now: Yeah. A lot has been added since I last posted it, so let's just get right into it... We'll start off in the centre. I'm currently using the default European buildings, but I'll replace them with the theme I'm working on when I can. I feel like this terraced housing block is a bit too big. I might need to break it up a bit and shrink it down. Just remember that nothing here is final. Some things will be different in the next update. Also note that I'm not covering the city in great detail in this update and just tour around the general area, as it isn't really finished yet. I'll be covering it bit by bit in the next updates as I detail and finalise different areas more. Here is a top down view of the parking by the station: And here is the bus terminal. I'll cover public transport in a future entry, it's not done yet. This is gonna be the city/town hall. I don't know if I will keep it here though. I'm not all too happy with this area as I made it when I was still experimenting with the buildings and how to use them. I will eventually change it up when I get to it. I forgot to get some pictures of the college I put down, but you can see it in the back there. I'll cover it when I get back to this area again in the future though. I like to split the city by north and south where the railway is. This is the "south" part, and you might remember that there used to be a highway going through here. I made a cool interchange for it with road markings and stuff and ended up not liking where the highway was. I moved the interchange with the magnificent Move-It mod to another area, which took ages but it worked! The highway now goes around the city, which is more realistic (and prettier). I'll cover the interchange when I get to the place it's at in the future. There is the the train station on the top left. There's a train line that goes to the main city. There's also an express line that takes people directly to the city without stopping in the middle. These lines get used a lot and are quite full (especially during rush hour with the amazing Rush Hour mod!) Here's a closer look at the south area: These default European buildings are going to get replaced by my theme when it's ready. I feel like those parked car props are a bit too bright. I'll change that up. I think these buildings look really cool (done with the Move-It mod, by the way!) but I need to move them around a bit because they're taking up a lot of space. I made an industrial area nearby too. I don't really have any district names yet because the district boundaries are changing around. Hopefully by the next update, I can get all the districts sorted out. Some apartments near the warehouses. This area is actually pretty detailed, but it's still unfinished so I'll leave an in-depth look for a future update. And here are some taller appartements. I also put down a high school there on the bottom left. It fits in with the other nearby buildings. Shoutout to the Park People Generators on the workshop! The start of some semi-detached housing: I don't know if I will keep those terraced houses on the left. They just feel misplaced on the bottom of a big hill like that. And this area too. There might just be too much repetition here, and I need to loosen it up a bit. This area is actually quite detailed. And that's it! I just want to to say a thank you to all the modders and asset creators out there that make this game something completely different. I also want to say a thanks to you if you follow this journal, thanks for taking some time off your day to see what I have done in my own city, not yours. If you have any suggestions for improvement, now's a good time to post as this city is still in development. Because I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, I mostly set up SimCity 4 with American and Canadian styled buildings, mostly stuff that fits into the majority of Canada, The North East, North West, Mid West and Central parts of USA. Though lately I've been thinking about building cities in a different style like United Kingdom or Asia. I did get the no maxis files mod to block all levels of Residential and Commercial, though I wonder is there a way to just block American buildings in general and leave the European set alone? Other then that I know where to get british themed lots and what not so that wont be an issue for me, I just want to block the American stuff for my British SimCity 4 setup. EDIT : I KNOW THAT YOU CAN DISABLE THE AMERICAN TILE SETS, but not all of the mods/lots I download may fall into the European category and thus may not spawn if I just disable the American tile sets alone. I'm downloading stuff right now that mostly looks british in my opinion but may not actually be strictly European/British and may not be enabled in the European tile set. I just want to disable the American buildings and leave the European stuff in, that way I can enable all the Tile Sets and let the European set grow and let mod lots/buildings grow incase they don't end up under the European tile set.
  18. Hello good people! Something's happening to my game and I can't figure out why. When I play on an european map I can't seem to be able to load international growable (all the service buildings and uniques are still loaded); same thing happens on non euro maps (I can't load euro buildings; uniques and service still loaded) so I can't really use themes. Does anyone know why? I've subscribed to his mod: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=456408505&searchtext=unlocker and everything seems to be on/activated...
  19. Gochester

    Gochester in 1990: This real life real map which took huge amounts of work and effort for the city council to make shows Gochester as it was in 1990. It hadn't grown in 30 years and felt very much like a town of stagnation. Whilst nearby cities were in a new age of prosperity, Gochester still lingered in the cuts and rainy days of the 1970s. When people walked down the street, they did it with glum expressions and collars turned up against the weather. Old marked squares were carpeted over with parking lots and 60s concrete ruled the streets. The large industrial area to the east side of town was mainly silent (The smoke from the chimneys only from secret illegal grunge concerts held in the abandoned factory halls). All in all, Gochester was a pretty grimy place, and it was full of traffic jams to boot, though it seems only by trucks going from Rennville (it was close to the French border) to Carlsburg (Also pretty close to the German one), as residents themselves knew nothing was worth getting out of bed for. At this point there were 4 rock concerts underway. If nothing else, Gochestarian's love music.Indeed many bands from the 70s and 80s came from Gochester, using its drabness and an inspiration. If only we knew how they did it. This is central Gochester by night! The statue of death really goes a long way to represent what Gochester is like. Ahh finally a sunny day! In the midground of this photo you can see the rail lines leaving the massive Amity Square Station, a completely out sized Victorian behemoth built when the town was going somewhere. Most of the platforms are unused, but fortunately, unlike most of Gochester, they've been re-purposed. They're now used as a playground for the local kids, and some are also used by drug dealers! Okay, maybe I was being a bit harsh on Gcchester, it has it's problems, but it can be quite beautiful.. maybe it has a future yet after all. though there are 2 fires burning in that last picture...

    Hi guys, I am a huge fan of SC4 and therefore I could not stand to live without Simtropolis, so THANK YOU ALL for making this the greatest Sim City ever!!! I've made many many cities, my style is between realism and imagination, I am a frequent traveler and I love big cities; I decided to post my first CJ after many many years of playing, I am Italian and had the chance to live for some time in Paris, Brussels, London. I was born in Naples, just left Milan for a small town in Tuscany, I've also spent some time In Antwerp (Anvers is the french name for it), working there in a big shipping company , I like Belgium is the very heart of Europe, thanks to its position; I like realism but building Anvers I've added a lot of imagination (i.e. pretending it was adjacent to the sea or having nice sandy beaches). But what is life without some sane imagination? So here I am, I designed a very basic region, I do not love to spend days in terraforming, so I wanted to have a easy-to-build-on Region, making it easier to build ports, waterfronts etc. The heart of the region, the big city center is going to be the crossing of the two inland channels. (see below) Even large tiles (which are preferred to the medium-small) layout was made on purpose: I wanted the city center connected to as many as possible large tiles (6). Now let me start posting some little intros, which will guide you to what the recent growth of the City has meant, how the city looks 'tonite'. Once upon a time (somewere in Europe, year 1995)... City is developing big time, we are in the 90's, and economy is booming, thanks to the fact Anvers was recently made 'Free Port City State' of the European Union in 1989, right after Berlin Wall (and cold war) demolition. Anvers was then declared an independent city, (although in the 'Benelux' European Region) with its own government and economy, as a neutral City as the main destinations for Containers and goods coming from any Extra European country (namely USA, Russia, China and Central and Southern America) as all imported goods could be registered as being 'EU ready' having to pay very little duties, but still the main source of revenues for the Free Port City State of Anvers. Also Export from EU was made easier if done through Anvers as any extra EU destination would immediately recognized and accepted those as 'Duty Paid' Goods. Result was that many Industries and Companies moved to Anvers and its Port with its neighbor, the Hendrik Intercontinental - City Cargo Airport (named after Hendrik Conscience), were completely flooded of billions. Before that and during the 20th Century Anvers was widely known for its Diamonds District and Commerce/Market, about 84% of the world's rough diamonds pass through the district each year. As of Today, around 1Mio people lives in Anvers, but the Population is increasing very fast. Below the Anvers Central Station, located in Anvers Centrum (ACM1) built in the 1905. It's currently (1995) the busiest in the Benelux, thanks to the 480% increase he last 5 years. Anvers is connected to London and Paris with 16 Fast Trains per day, (taking 3,2 Hours to London and 1,2 hour to Paris). Anvers is also connected obviously to Brussels (30mins by Train) and Amsterdam (12 trains per day, 2 hours) , Kolnh (via Rhur) and then Berlin, with12 fast trains per day. More to come...

  22. Wolfskreut (Mosaics)

    Hi, I'm away for two weeks from tomorrow and wanted to post something to cover that time way. So I had a look round at the parts of Wolfskreut that I have just finished and thought these two mosaics might be quite good. The first is goes past the main train yard, anindustrial area and then onto farms and a country park. The second features one of the most open areas in the city centre - great in summer, but today we visit it in winter. Since Gobias' terrain mods have been made available again, I've been busy changing from Meadowshire to the fantastic Bernese Oberland. This involved changing my override scripts which keep everything consistent; more work than you think - I think it's worth it though. What do you think? I must credit @Ln X for inspiring me in the MMP work; his CJ helped a great deal in providing ideas! Hope you enjoy!   23. Lucerne, Switzerland

    After my last city hit the building limit, I wanted to build a city that would work within that limit. Lucerne should have the correct balance of urban vs rural to fill out the entire landscape. Currently I can build roughly 4x more buildings, and 3x the amount of roads. Will be working on this until I gracefully hit some kind of limit.
  24. Wolfskreut (Historic Centre)

    Once I posted the first instalment of Bassenheim, back in March, I'd actually already finished the city, and was working on the next one. It's still nowhere near finished, but the centre is more or less complete. There will likely be lots of entries for the new city, but to start with, we have the historic centre and a brief overview of the CBD.
