  2. The Life and Death of a Great American City San Felipe, California Hello, this is my first city journal in this forum and I would like to present you my new project: San Felipe. San Felipe is a city in California located between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and in this diary we will cover the period from its founding as a small village into the present day (hopefully) as a sprawling metropolis. I will try my best to ensure the city grows naturally and realistically within the limits of Cities: Skylines. 1903 - Founding San Felipe was founded on October 5th, 1903 as a small farming village at a region already well developed by agriculture. The region known as the San Felipe valley nested among the mountains and the sea was already notable in the Spanish and Mexican eras for the fertility of the area. The valley experiences a typical pacific Mediterranean climate with very mild winters and hot summers and thus was ideal for the growing of plants native to Spain and other Southern European countries such as Oranges, Apples, Citrons, etc. It was during the American conquest however that the area truly developed with an influx of settlers creating the large farms found in the valley, and using the water from George's Lake for irrigation purposes. Nevertheless the area did not start developing until the late 19th century where the first settlement was formed at the heart of the valley. In 1903 it was incorporated as the City of San Felipe, already having a population of 1,000 people. The center of the town was delimited as the intersection between Main Street (leading from San Francisco to Los Angeles) and North Street (leading to the Whitting Iron Mines). From 1903 onwards the town growed at a slow pace as more and more farmers came to the city seeking better living standards (electricity was introduced in 1904 and a modern sewage system was installed). 1907 - The arrival of the Railroad In 1907 Union Pacific was charged with constructing a spur railway from the main line connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco with San Felipe, with the aim of transporting passengers and shipements from the Iron Mines. For this purpose the San Felipe Railway Station was built in Spanish Mission Revival Architecture and became an architectural centrepiece in San Felipe. The railway initially built as a single track at standard gauge proved very important for the development of San Felipe, as it reduced the otherwise dangerous and rough trip through the mountains. The city then started growing faster as more and more businesses started opening and farms became increasingly profitable and adapted to newer technology. In 1910 the first high school was built at the south side of town. in 1911 the San Felipe Ironworks where founded with the goal of creating products with the use of iron. This was the first heavy industry to be established within city limits. 1913 - The Oil Age In 1913 perhaps the biggest single event in San Felipe's history happened: on January 10th a farmer struck oil on his property and immediately the news propagated throughout America that Oil had been found in San Felipe. Further south in Los Angeles oil was discovered too and the population exploded. Thousands of labourers flocked from America seeking to make their fortunes off this precious black liquid. Hundreds of oil wells were set up by many different "companies" made by fortune seekers. Indeed, the oil boom was immediate and it would shape the city to come. One historian later said: "a small country town in America rose overnight from a farmer's village into a city with the prospects of becoming a city of the rank of New York City or London." The oil age was on, and indeed the infrastructure started proving inadequate with the shipments of oil which had to be shipped to Los Angeles or San Francisco, making the single rail line a bottleneck. At the same time the San Felipe Steel Mill was inaugurated with the purpose of producing steel off the iron reserves of the Whitting Mine. It proved to be a huge facility, perhaps the biggest in the West Coast and would too prove a vital component of San Felipe's economy. 1916 - The Port In 1916 the Port of San Felipe was inaugurated, a project of Southern Pacific's Railway in order to effectively ship the oil into the harbour and then to various ports throughout the Western US. The Port was to contain at first one pier with four cranes, a dedicated railway line and a goods station. The Port was considered the most modern port in the US. The city then exploded in growth rivalling other oil towns resulting in the creation of many new blocks and the influx of thousands of new people, turning San Felipe into a medium sized city.

I created this image ages ago for a CJ entry and I thought it would be a perfect fit for this competition (hopefully it can still be entered). I was inspired by this photograph while making this recreation, which was taken around the time of the surrender. 13. Las Kardes, CA, USA

    Version 1.0.0

Fictional map loosely based around Trindade Island. The island is located about 120 miles West of Ensenada, Mexico. Before the Spanish-American war, the island has sustained a populace of 5,300 people. However, during the war, America has completely taken over the island, and unfortunately, only 50 settlers were left by the end of the war due to rampant rebellion against American rule, forcing the US armed forces into murdering most residents. The island in the center of the waterfall has served as the downtown area of the Spanish settlement. No infrastructure, however, was left by the end of the war, due to the fact that most roads were unpaved, and no railroad was established. The harbor has been disassembled and recycled in 1955, and so were the most houses. In 2013, a highway has been built connecting the island to San Clemente Island near California. The highway is part of an American-Mexican off-coast highway, connecting Los Angeles, California, and Ensenada, Mexico. In 2015, the island has gained a lot of popularity amongst Californians, and the first official settlement was established on the island. The name "Las Kardes" it derived from the word kardex, which is Spanish for "archive" or "filing cabinet". It has been named as such due to the fact that colonization of the island post-Spanish-American War has been left off for a very long time. The island's total land area is 10.2 squared kilometers. It is fairly mountainous and contains a fertile delta in the West. The delta is quite dated, having formed only after several thousand years of rock breakdown. Geologists predict all island breakdown around the delta in approximately 4,190 years. The rest of the lake will become saltwater by the end of the next 200 years. The mountains contain a limited amount of ore. On the north of the island is a waterfall with a limited amount of fertile land. Animal life is present, dwelling primarily near the fertile areas. NOTE: High possibility of a default highway circulating around the island. Why? Because Americans love highways circulating around things, and because it's a very island-ish thing to have.

  16. Welcome to Downtown Bristol!

"There's only three great American cities; New York, New Orleans, and San Francisco, the rest is Cleveland." Welcome than to Cleveland, also called Bristol. Bristol, established in 1797, and incorporated in 1821, founded by a man named Louis Richards as a city in the thin landmass between Washington Bay, and the Pacific Ocean that had a ideal trading river, which he named the Bristol River. By the mid to late 1800s it began to grow into the major city we know today. Today it's a bustling economic center of the pacific coast. Rivaling cities like Los Angeles and Seattle. Though at the cost of large crime rates, and poverty growing in the southern districts. But, Bristol is not is not truly what it seems, infact just in downtown, a past of so violent, that formed its history and how it's seen to the United States, and the world. From the organized crime bosses, corruptions, and scandals, Bristol is formed, but within it all, sits culture, arts, shopping, and the beauty of the city. The beauty of the city, hides within plain site. During the 1960s-1980s period, the city had a boom of high rises, and economic development, but it eventually ended and left us buildings such as the World Trade Center building of Bristol, as seen. Eventually, the city by the late 1990s-early 2010s did the city finally return with a 'mini' boom with buildings like the CenturyLink building being built in the corner of the heart of the CBD. Roadworks of this era, to help reduce traffic turned streets like these, into dead ends, to reduce traffic but it only made it worse. The city is in the process of fixing it, but city council delays is preventing it. Buildings like the Mid-Century Tower, which was built as the city's tallest skyscraper was built during this period, overshadowing the background Westerman Bank Tower. Historical skyscrapers such as the Bristol Utility Company Tower, was overshadowed by newer skyscrapers of the 'mini' boom of construction. Buildings like the Regal Theatre, or the Hotel Huber, refuse to become hidden and remain somewhat, seen within the grand skyline. Though many buildings were torn down, like near the Eastern Company Building, when it came from having neighbors to surrounded by parking lots, saved by historic preservationist. Even then, more historic structures like the Bristol Tribune Tower, were hidden by skyscrapers like the World Trade Center. Though, the boom hasn't covered the past or experience of the city, but made it more noticeable and stand out from the box and glass towers. The infamous Victoria hotel built in the 1950s, which in the 1960s, became part of the Easter Day Massacre when two major organized crime families had a shootout outside, and inside the hotel, killing around fifty-five people, ten being police officers. Today, the Victoria is historical for the Easter Day Massacure, and it's 5 star quality rooms. The historic Macy's store in the western half of the CBD, remains a prominent shopping experience in the city. The historic St. A. Hospital is famous for being born to Bristol Rock Singer, Alex Kalvan who became one of the most prominent 80s rock singers in the United States. Historic storefronts align the city, hardships, but show the proud history of the city of Bristol. Bristol, has more uncovered secrets in downtown, but you can't simply give away everything in the city's welcoming, got to keep the negative ideals, for next time. Till then, Bristol awaits for you, as the sun goes down, Bristol arises.

  20. THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS GUYS! Ancient Temple Complex of Waxuktún Estado de Guerrero Although 90% of Arumbayas now live in the deep jungles of San Theodoros, they are known to be the descendants of one of the greatest civilizations in the Americas. The Arumbayas established themselves as a small tribe of fishermen along the coasts of Modern San Theodoros during the Pre-classic period (2000 BC to AD 250). Following regular raids of the Jivaro and Carib indians during the early classic period (AD 250 to AD 900), the Arumbayas started to develop cities that would prevent them from being attacked by other tribes. These cities reached a very high state of development starting AD 900 and the Arumbaya developed a civilization that became the most powerful in the region until the arrival of French Explorers in San Theodoros. The Arumbayas were well known for their art, architecture, mathematical and astronomical systems, even though they did not possess any form of writing system. The French explorers landing in San Theodoros were amazed by the beauty of the site of Waxuktún and considered the Arumbayas a threat to the settling of colons in the region. Following a war between the Arumbayas and the French, the remaining members of the tribe hid in the deep jungle of the country and never returned to the coast. Because of the lack of materials to rebuild their glorious civilization, the Arumbayas went back to live the way their ancestors lived in the past, in wooden huts. Arumbaya Art
  21. Prefeitura de Goiana, Estado de Picui

THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR COMMENTS! It's 4:00 AM here in Montreal, Canada, I'm pretty tired but can't get some sleep. I'm a little lazy to answer all the comments but I'd like to thank you all for your comments, I appreciate it a lot! As an apology for not answering, here's a small update! Prefeitura de Goiana Estado de Picuí The Prefecture of Goiana is the largest city and the seat of the government of the State of Picuí, the smallest state in San Theodoros. That region is located along the border with Brazil, making it the second Portuguese-speaking enclave in San Theodoros, after the Islands of Trinidad and Cayo Coco. The state is widely known in San Theodoros for its microclimate and its beautiful pink and purple Jacaranda trees. During the dry season, from May to October, the lack of rain makes the levels of the local rivers go down and exposes tens of kilometers of beautiful sandy beaches. Those beaches, along with the natural hot water wells, are a significant tourist attraction and San Theodorans massively come to populate the city of Goiana during the weekends, national holidays or for a larger period of time. The city has today a permanent population of 41,000 inhabitants, but this number goes up to 500,000 people during the peak tourism season. This situation forced the local government to massively build hotels, mansions and condominiums in order to accommodate the tourists as well as a massive BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) System. Surrounded by plateaus, verticalization was a necessity and Goiana is now considered one of the densest cities in Latin America, with a significant number of high rises per capita. The city hosts major national events such as the Goiana Country Show, a national festival of Country/Sertanejo music, a genre of Brazilian origin that won the hearts of most San Theodorans, including El Presidente!

Been pretty busy with RL stuff between work and studies, just graduated from university (yayy) and now looking for a job. Meanwhile I had a little extra time to work on my new city So, welcome to the city of San Andrés, capital of the State of Boyacá! Located in the North of the country, bordering French Guiana, the State of Boyacá is the agricultural heart of San Theodoros. That region is known worldwide for its great coffee and fruits. More recently, it converted into a major center for the production of textile, steel, cement and pharmaceutical products. The city is experiencing a significant development and the region of Boyacá is the richest in the country, San Andrés being the third richest city after Los Dopicos (our proud capital city, Viva!) and Rio de Maio in our nation. The city was founded in 1701 by Colombian separatists, at the same time, Venezuelan separatists would found the city of Los Dopicos. In order to fund the rebellion against the Spanish Crown presence in South America, Los Separatistas will extensively develop agriculture and industry in those two regions. San Andrés still bears the heavy influence of those Colombian refugees, with traditional Vallenato Music, the sombreros vueltiaos (traditional hats) and the Bandeja Paisana, a local version of the Colombian bandeja paisa. After experiencing the rough life in the mining city of Hullaqa, we're back to the island of Trinidad, and the Playa de los Cocoteros, a place rocked by the trade winds, caressed by the Atlantic Ocean, a place blessed by the gods. Pure pleasure for the eyes, when facing the incredible color chart offered by mother nature. Pure pleasure of the senses, offering you a wide range activities which will make your stay unforgettable. Extend over the sand, feet in the water, dive in the discovery of coral reefs, see the wind rushing into the sails of the traditional boats under a sky without any stain, learning everything of the natural reserves...For the less adventurous of you, sit back, relax and enjoy the sun sipping a frozen tropical fruit cocktail, experience fine dining or set the dance floor on fire! Everything is possible in Playa de los Cocoteros, and you will feel so well here! Relaxation, drunkenness, freedom, well-being... We shall say about your photos that they have been photoshopped and of the story of your stay that this is exaggerated. But they're not! Welcome to paradise, welcome to Playa de los Cocoteros! Hellken Thanks a lot Estado Nuevo del Altiplano, Ciudad de Hullaqa Hullaqa (pronounce H-u-lia-kha) is the third largest city in San Theodoros with about 225,000 inhabitants, located to the east of the Gran Chapo desert, in the department of Estado Nuevo del Altiplano. On the San Theodoran Altiplano, the city is 2,500 meters (8,202 feet) above sea level causing locals and visitors to call it The City In The Clouds. It is surrounded by mountains filled with gold, diamonds, copper, iron and silver. The high concentrations of precious metals (the highest in the world) lead to a gold-and-everything-that-is-worth-many-pesos rush after the end of the Gran Chapo war between San Theodoros and its neighboring country, Nuevo Rico in 1937. San Theodoros became then one of the richest countries in the world. Unfortunately, an earthquake destroyed the whole city in 1956, and following the rise to power of dictator General Tapioca in 1959, poor management and corruption prevented the government from making investments, leaving Hullaqa almost abandoned. Following the arrival to the presidential palace of General Alcazar in 1972, the San Theodoran communist junta heavily invested in the modernization of the infrastructures all over the country, which was suddenly stopped because the government wanted to modernize its military forces. The city, which was slowly recovering from the wounds of the past, saw thousands of new immigrants from all over the country and South America. Despite the enormous resources of the region, the city is the poorest in the country. General Alcazar’s government promised a $350 billion investment to rebuild the whole city and turn it into the country’s most modern city. Overview of the city, located in the middle of the mountains. Chaotic traffic in the streets of Hullaqa. 90% of the streets of the city are not paved and are pretty narrow, which makes Hullaqa the worst place in San Theodoros to drive. The Cristo Blanco a 30 meters (98ft) tall art deco statue, built in 1960 after the terrible earthquake in order to protect the city. Hundreds of people come each day to pray or visit this monument.
