  3. New Arkatanya

    Version 1.1.2

    264 Downloads

I was tired of seeing maps that were not fun to play on because they had very little buildable area and also were an unrealistic place for people to settle. Most maps being too big (100s or 1000s of tile) or too small (3-4 large tiles), this map is 10 tall by 9 wide with 95 large tiles and about 20 medium ones - it will look full after about 6-11 cities although you could contextualize an urban core with a small handful of cities like 3-4; the tiles are staggered allowing for commercial (office) centers for those that want to do a large international airport challenge. The file size is respectable is 41.6 mb compressed or 80 mb unzipped - so player won't be complaining if you play multiplayer via your private sc4mp server (feel free to invite me) or file swapping. A retro version of this region is already on 2 sc4mp multiplayer servers with different owners that aren't me. This is the biggest version with the most buildable area, I also fixed some of the hills and contextualized the coast a bit by expanding it. This map is a river valley map, of a hypothetical fictitious small state. Some people will prefer to densify the hills and some flatten, others will add touches or leave the way it is. Download the zip and extract to your regions folder.

This is the same as the original arkatanya except I removed the extraneous connections that were from a multiplayer region I hosted. I renamed the region Silverbend Praire, as it reflects my vision of this being a farming region. You can rename it whatever you want by modifying the region.ini file. I'll a version of this with the regional transit (highways and rail) soon, that will be under arkatanya#4. Reposted: I was tired of seeing maps that were not fun to play on because they had very little buildable area and also were an unrealistic place for people to settle. Most maps being too big (100s or 1000s of tile) or too small (3-4 large tiles), this map is 8x8 with 60 large tiles and about 16 medium ones - although it will look fairly populated once it has 16-25 cities; the tiles are staggered allowing for commercial (office) centers for those that want to do a large international airport challenge. 9. TCC Maps - Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway

    Version 1.0.0

    86 Downloads

Time for another map! This time, it's Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway (for SimCity 4). At a latitude of 78' 12'N, Longyearbyen is known for being the world's northernmost settlement with a population of over 1,000. It is located on the archipelago of Svalbard, which is under treaty status administered by Norway. Generally, any citizen of any signatory country may live and work on Svalbard provided they meet minimum income requirements and have arranged housing. Because of its extreme northern location, Longyearbyen experiences "polar night" for 111 days between late October and mid-February, during which time the sun never rises. After a brief period between mid-February and mid-April, Longyearbyen then experiences "midnight sun" for 127 days from mid-April to late August, during which time the sun never sets. There is also not a tree in sight on Svalbard. The map is 20 x 24 large city tiles and is accurately scaled based on DEM data. It includes Longyearbyen, Barentsburg (a Russian settlement) and Pyramiden, a ghost town and abandoned Soviet coal mine. In order to install the map you will need wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer as the file is in SC4M format. I hope you can put this map to good use, enjoy! -TCC View My Full Map Catalogue Here:

  13. I'm new to this forum and community so if this is the wrong place to post I do apologise and stand corrected. It was really great to discover and play the Maxisland region uploaded here by member catty-cb. It gave me the idea to create one of my own, with the aim to reach roughly the same regional population but with a more european look to it. Like flying in and viewing the region from the cockpit of your little Cessna at 4,000 meters of altitude, and thinking “Oh man! I’m gonna land over there and get a rental car to drive around, discover… explore.. and meet potentially interesting sims.” In Meandras we have some clearly outlined urban and suburban areas, and some that have merged over the years due to high-capacity transit routes, just like in real life - bigger urban landscapes that consist of several municipalities. The urban areas in Meandras follow the contour of the terrain, and neighbourhoods have their natural structure, mostly a mosaic of residential and commercial with industrial areas kept to themselves. To avoid the typical square urban structure that emerges in SimCity, I would start each city tile with a road following the terrain, encircling flatter ground to be built, and then zone with a criss-cross of diagonal roads, streets and avenues to counteract the typical american grid structure. I found that I could just drag i big zone over the area and then chip off/de-zone the tiles that ended up beyond the road contour, a little bit like chiseling away on a piece of marble, hoping it’s going to look like Aphrodite. Tedious work, but coupled with some diagonal roads or even avenues this gave quite an interesting street layout with some “no road connection” tiles perfect for parks, playgrounds, plazas and whatnot. Then, to finish a city off I’d sneak into God mode for a touch of re-forestation - sparsly on hillsides and mountains, more densely in valleys. On the whole it’s been like painting the Timbuktu landscape with settlements, infrastructure and vegetation. and I’m so pleased with the result I just had to share it with this community. Using mostly Chicago and New York tile sets and BATs with Europan origins, the satellite view offers lots of red, orange and yellow, mostly medium density buildings and only a few high rises, which in my opinion corresponds well to the aerial view you get from flying around Europe, staying clear of Frankfurt... This on the visual, aesthetic aspects of Meandras from high above, which has been the main goal. On the functional level it is an integrated region, with most cities living in symbiosis - sharing their space and livelihoods. Since the challenge was not to succeed in the game as such, but to get this satellite view, I played all cities on the easy level but mostly without cheats (oh I did cut a corner here and there to steal a reward building… sorry for that - but no "weakness pays" …) NAM has been very useful to help me manage mobility, but for interurban transit I have used Maxis standard items. Things like Real Highway need a lot of space for offramp, onramps etc, more adapted to an american model with urban sprawl and lots of open space to spare. Have you ever driven on the peripherique around Paris or the Autostrada through Naples? Although it has sometimes miscalculated regional growth and intercity impact, The Census Repositary Vault ( I never understood the difference between the vault and the facility - if someone cares to explain it to me..) has given me invaluable information for my city planning. The most common bug has been that in a mainly residential city that obviously has lots of sims commuting to Sim Nation, the Census guys set that numer to zero. Even so, it was not too hard to balance offer and demand between the cities concerned. Of course there is still a lot of commuters crossing borders around the clock never to go back home, but that’s a known bug. Lastly if wish to thank this Simtropolis community for sharing their knowledge and creations for us to learn from or download. Sadly some really good-looking w2w buildings and other lots would cause my Mac to CTD, like the ones uploaded by WannGLondon, but others - such as the BAT files uploaded by koumus corporation, and Odd from Sweden to mention a few, have given the cities their nice atmosphere. So, is Meandras now perfect? Maybe looks OK from the cockpit of a Cessna at 4,000 meters altitude, but can it grow its population without sprawling further and pushing mother nature out of this idyllic picture? Even with so many graveyards in cities that have since long stopped zoning new residential areas, we still get loud (!!) protests from schoolteachers against any budget cuts, so yes - new little sims keep coming and we need to accommodate the growing families. My job will now move from macro to micro level, from regional "governor" to arrondissement mayor, and fine tune each little neighbourhood, downtown commercial street, government block, parks and recreation, and our responsibility as elected officials - law and order, education, health, utilities and transportation. Of course sims will keep moving from town to town, seeking new opportunities, and as mayor, no longer too concerned with that regional harmony that has so obsessed me as governor, the gloves are off and the weapon of choice is going to be tax policy, coupled with this wonderful word: desirability. Unity will have to give way to competition, even if we also remain interdependent. A delicate balaning act to follow, so: Stay tuned if you like the approach and more importantly, pls offer feedback - always welcome!

Another week, another map! This time it's Paris, France (for SimCity 4). Paris is the largest city and capital of France. The city proper is home to 2.1 million people and the greater metropolitan area is home to 13 million. The map is 24 x 24 large city tiles and is accurately scaled based on DEM data. 15. So, the idea is to build a city from a fortress old town part as seen much in Europe. If there are suggestions about good Fortress lots, let me know! I started with the harbor and the fortress itself. They are the base on which the town is located. Next step was raising the city walls. Next I started with the walls itself to decide the look I wanted. I also raised the fortress to blend in with the wall and created the openings for the portals. Next step adding the typical spikes you see in these kind of defensive structures along with the moot. Still a lot of work to do!

  17. SimPrague Bata Shoe Factory 24 and 25

    Version 1.0.0

    613 Downloads

Happy New Year! A little present for all of you industrial geeks. Before we return to Prague, we had to stay in Zlín for a while and build a few more factory buildings of the Bata Shoe Manufacturing Company. Similarly to others in the town, they are based on a 6,15 x 6,15 metre reinforced concrete frame, filled with bricks. Circular columns give us a hint that these manufactures were built in 1930s. Unfortunately, they were demolished recently (while their neighbors were renovated for various purposes). Buildings 24 and 25 are smaller than my previously uploaded 44, but they are connected by another part and make a nice ensemble, which I used to create a variety of lots. In fact, there are many lots, both ploppable and growable (see below). TECH STUFF IMPORTANT NOTE: Check the SimPrague_readme.txt to learn more about the project! IMPORTANT NOTE: SimPrague project uses a consistent 133% scale! Sorry if it doesn't fit your city. This pack contains the following models and lots: 2 models of main buildings (24 and 25), each in two texture variants, plus several parts to combine in larger lots: a connection, a small warehouse and a loading bay. 4 growable 7x4 lots, each containing exactly one of the 4 main building models, grows in high density industrial zones and employs ca. 230 workers. Zoning exactly sized areas with ctrl+drag helps, also make sure you have population at least 10 thousand and enough demand for I-m. 4 ploppable 7x4 lots, found in the landmark menu and functioning similar as the growables. The lots are slightly different though. 2 growable 8x8 lots, each containing two of the main buildings and some other parts as props. They grow in high density industrial zones and offer 780 resp. 860 jobs. 2 ploppable 8x8 lots and 1 ploppable 7x7 "compact" lot, all found in the landmark menu. They are different from the growable lots and offer 720 I-m jobs. 1 growable 3x2 "small warehouse" lot, which grows in the high density industrial zone and offers 45 I-m jobs. That is 14 unique lots in total. Night lighting is modest, usually only a small part of the building is lit, one of the models is entirely dark if it suits you better. There is only one night version, but I've tested it and it looks fine with and without SimFox Day'n'Nite Mod. DEPENDENCIES NOTE for beginners: Dependencies are props and other files that are useful and generally accessible online, so you don't want to include them again in any new upload. It can be annoying the first few times you spend half an hour downloading them, but as they are so widely used by all other BATters as well, you will soon find yourself having most of them or being able to skip some. None of them is a big surprise: BSC Mega Props SG Vol. 01: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=746 BSC Mega Props DAE Vol. 01: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=475 BSC Mega Props Misc Vol. 02: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1771 SM2 Mega Prop Pack Vol 01: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/32980-sm2-mega-prop-pack-vol1/ SM2 Mega Prop Pack Vol 02: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/32981-sm2-mega-prop-pack-vol2/ SM2 Mega Prop Pack Vol 03: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/32982-sm2-mega-prop-pack-vol3/ SM2 Mega Prop Pack Vol 04: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33304-sm2-mega-prop-pack-vol4/ SM2 Scrap metal Transfer Station TZ found in SM2 Essentials: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/32979-sm2-essentials-v4/ PEG_MTP_SUPER_RESOURCE_PACK: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/20966-peg-mtp-super-pack/ Polish Mega Prop Pack Vol. 1: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33497-polish-mega-prop-pack-vol-1/ I used a few Maxis buildings as props: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=3560 Vintage cars by Motokloss to add some industrial feeling: MS_Motokloss_60s-70s_CarProps.dat: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/27291-ms-parking-lots-road-set-and-car-props/ And a few Girafe trees (they are seasonal and they are the best, you want them anyway!) 21. 01: Welcome to Godthab

Godthab is the capital and most populous city of Sverland (an European Union member country located in far north Scandinavia above the Arctic Circle). Approximately 475,000 people live in the urban area of Godthab which stretches across 18 islands where Hammeralven (Hammer River) flows into the Baltic Sea. The area has been settled since the pre-Stone Age, in the 7th Century BCE, and was founded as a city in 1226 by a Swedish merchant. The original city was Gotaab before the settlement was relocated to the current area in the late 1300s (now named as Gamla Stan). In the mid-1800s, Nystad (New Town) was developed and quickly became the commercial and office centre of the Godthab region. Godthab is now the cultural, academic, media, political and economic centre of Sverland. The Godthab metropolitan region alone accounts for over a half of the country's GDP and is among the top 15 regions in Europe by GDP per capita. Godthab has been ranked as a beta-global city and is the fourth largest city in Scandinavia. Jonkoping (a business district) is one of the main financial and corporate centres in Europe. Godthab is the seat of Sverlandic Government, Sverlands Riksdag (Parliament), and is home to the highest judiciaries in the country. Also located in the city, Godthabs Universitet is ranked in the world's top 60. Although the official language is Sverlandic which is a combination of Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian, English is commonly used as a second language.
