City-building game(s)

  1. So much has happened with Cities Skylines that I decided to start over on a new project. This will be a US/California themed city with lots of other influences. Focus will be on functionality and realism and a lot of the major detailing will be quick and sloppy with the exception of some parts. This will be a metropolis and will challenge the limits of the game, and to do so it involves some work in the asset editor and some other custom solutions to tackle the limits. This is the start of Emory Hills!
  2. Freeway Interchanges

    1. The 101 - 135 interchange in the city of Avalon Beach 2. The 101 - 246 Interchange at Balboa International Airport 3. The 246 - 135 Interchange in Costa Pacifica 4. The end of the 18 freeway at Balboa Rd. 5. The 101 - 166 Interchange in Balboa 6. The 101 - 18 Interchange in Balboa (this was in a previous entry)
  3. The Story of Giovanni

Here is Loquat County today, it still has a lot of sprawling ahead of it. Here is Picante, it's a small city on the southeast side of metropolitan Loquat County Here is one of the sim residents of Picante, his name is Giovanni. That is him waiting 2nd in line for the middle changing tent. Here is Giovanni's house (middle of the picture with the green roof). His address is: 419 Arlandria St. Picante, CA 93480 (notice the green Camry in the driveway) Here is Giovanni's neighborhood. Here is where Giovanni works. (His green Camry is partially behind a palm tree) Here is where Giovanni is taking classes towards his Master's in Urban Planning after work. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's satellite Picante campus. One day between work and school, Giovanni stopped off at Five Guys in Balboa. (green Camry, bottom right) After eating his burger, Giovanni drove down Pacific Pkwy, and just as he passed Taco Bell, he was T-boned by a 7Eleven truck. His injuries were not serious, but he was taken to the nearby GooberGen Urgent Care. Giovanni had a broken arm and four stitches above his eyebrow. For his injuries and car loss, he was compensated by 7Eleven. He has since recovered, and now enjoys tuition free school and a brand new car.

  5. U.S. Bank (Library) Tower

    Version 2.0.0

U.S. Bank Tower, formerly Library Tower and First Interstate Bank World Center, is a 1,018-foot (310.3 m) skyscraper at 633 West Fifth Street in downtown Los Angeles, California. It is the third tallest building in California, the second tallest building in LA, the fifteenth tallest in the United States, the third tallest west of the Mississippi River after the Salesforce Tower and the Wilshire Grand Tower, and the 92nd tallest building in the world, after being surpassed by the Wilshire Grand Center. Because local building codes required all high-rise buildings to have a helipad, it was known as the tallest building in the world with a roof-top heliport from its completion in 1989 to 2004 when Taipei 101 opened. It is also the third tallest building in a major active seismic region; its structure was designed to resist an earthquake of 8.3 on the Richter scale. It consists of 73 stories above ground and two parking levels below ground. Construction began in 1987 with completion in 1989. The building was designed by Henry N. Cobb of the architectural firm Pei Cobb Freed & Partners and cost $350 million to build. It is one of the most recognizable buildings in Los Angeles, and often appears in establishing shots for the city in films and television programs. 7. Palo Alto: An Introduction

Hey all! Long time lurker here, with my first city journal. My city is based heavily on the cities I grew up in, Palo Alto and San Francisco (as well as Northern California in general), and inspired by the geography of Hong Kong, as well as the density of New York City. It is named Palo Alto (not to be confused with the actual Palo Alto!) and is envisioned as being north of San Francisco, yet still maintaining SF's Mediterranean climate and geography. Street names and some history have been borrowed heavily from Palo Alto, as well as local cities Atherton and Menlo Park, as an homage to the area I grew up in. In this alternate reality, the gold rush heavily affected the Palo Alto Bay region, catapulting Palo Alto into the world’s economy as a heavy financial and tech sector, leaving San Francisco as a regional economy with strong tourism (think Austin, New Orleans, San Diego, etc). I’ve envisioned most of the institutions that define the San Francisco Bay Area (both current and those that have relocated) as originating in Palo Alto instead, as well as some notable companies from the Pacific Northwest. The Palo Alto economy is defined by many financial, tech, and Fortune 500 companies, including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Google, Chevron, Gap, Apple, Facebook, McKesson, Hewlett Packard, Safeway, Visa, Oracle, Salesforce, Clorox, Charles Schwab, Starbucks, Nike, Nordstrom, Levi’s, Union Bank, Electronic Arts (!), Intel, Adobe, the Hearst Corporation, and PG&E, as well as being the national hub of venture capital, and hosting the (still intact in this world) Pacific Coast Stock Exchange, in addition to the Federal Reserve Bank for District 12. This diversity and strength of industry has allowed Palo Alto to become a Global Alpha city, and a major population and commercial hub of the United States of America. I’m still learning to play the game, so this is just as much about my experiments with creating a city as it is with perfectly polished regions. My focus is going to be on neighborhoods, developing infill over time, and transportation routes (particularly subways and buses). My goal is to create a city (primarily wall-to-wall) that feels like it grew naturally rather than disjointed, and each post will feature a different area, project, or transportation system. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy!

  16. San Joaquin Beach

This is a preview of my new CJ, it has a lot of sprawling to come, but here are a few shots... The Pacific Circle In the heart of Pacific Bay, a census designated area in south San Joaqin Beach, lies the Pacific Circle and plaza. The intersection and surrounding town was founded in 1918 and has become host to annual events such as "The International Food Festival" the first weekend in May, as well as the "Harvest Festival & Oktoberfest" in September. All six streets are blocked off for each event and local restaurants cook outdoors. Most of the businesses in and around the circle are restaurants; health food, gastropub, pizza, mexican food, and diners. At Christmas, lights are strung from building to palm tree and palm tree to building. Many of the buildings around the circle have been deemed local landmarks, and the old overgrown trees have plenty of hearts with initials scratched in their bark. Pacific Bay is a close-knit community, and the circle is the meeting point. Canary Palm Estates Upscale neighborhood in north Pacific Bay. Median home price: §1.5M San Joaquin Beach Civic Center & City Hall The center for city management and administration. Some events are held here like the annual Taste of Los Reyes, the 4th of July City Block Party & BBQ, and the April 20th Smokeout for Freedom and Date Shake Festival. Further down is Grizzly Bear Park, packed on the weekends with kids sports. Little Manila An area of Serrano with with highest population of Philippine-born residents in the US Old Spanish Station At Picante St. and Los Reyes Rd. Pacific Bay and San Joaquin Beach Lots of drunk drivers on the 101 freeway... The Circle from another angle For more like this, check out my last CJ California 2: Thanks

  18. 345 California Center

    Version 1.0.0

345 California Center is a 48-story office tower in the financial district of San Francisco, California. Completed in 1986, the 211.8 m (695 ft) tower is the third-tallest in the city after the Transamerica Pyramid and 555 California Street if the spires are included. It was originally proposed to be 30 m (98 ft) taller. 345 California is in the middle of a block with historic buildings on each of the four corners. Initially planned as condominiums, the top 11 floors of the building are the Loews Regency San Francisco hotel, located in twin towers set at 45-degree angles to the rest of the building. Several glass skybridges offer views of the San Francisco Bay Area. The Loews Regency has the street address 222 Sansome, with a different entrance. 19. Las Kardes, CA, USA

    Version 1.0.0

Fictional map loosely based around Trindade Island. The island is located about 120 miles West of Ensenada, Mexico. Before the Spanish-American war, the island has sustained a populace of 5,300 people. However, during the war, America has completely taken over the island, and unfortunately, only 50 settlers were left by the end of the war due to rampant rebellion against American rule, forcing the US armed forces into murdering most residents. The island in the center of the waterfall has served as the downtown area of the Spanish settlement. No infrastructure, however, was left by the end of the war, due to the fact that most roads were unpaved, and no railroad was established. The harbor has been disassembled and recycled in 1955, and so were the most houses. In 2013, a highway has been built connecting the island to San Clemente Island near California. The highway is part of an American-Mexican off-coast highway, connecting Los Angeles, California, and Ensenada, Mexico. In 2015, the island has gained a lot of popularity amongst Californians, and the first official settlement was established on the island. The name "Las Kardes" it derived from the word kardex, which is Spanish for "archive" or "filing cabinet". It has been named as such due to the fact that colonization of the island post-Spanish-American War has been left off for a very long time. The island's total land area is 10.2 squared kilometers. It is fairly mountainous and contains a fertile delta in the West. The delta is quite dated, having formed only after several thousand years of rock breakdown. Geologists predict all island breakdown around the delta in approximately 4,190 years. The rest of the lake will become saltwater by the end of the next 200 years. The mountains contain a limited amount of ore. On the north of the island is a waterfall with a limited amount of fertile land. Animal life is present, dwelling primarily near the fertile areas. NOTE: High possibility of a default highway circulating around the island. Why? Because Americans love highways circulating around things, and because it's a very island-ish thing to have.
