JV001 - A PLACE TO SETTLE
nilepereiraa posted a City Journal entry in Juniper Valley - Cities: Skylines
> After learning the language of the Humans, as well as completing work on recreating the Human organism, we have decided to look for a place for our Humans to call 'home'. We have found a valley with a couple of lakes and some disused transportation infrastructure. We also found traces of what was once a bustling Human settlement called a "city" in this area. It is for this reason that we have chosen this area for creating a city for the Humans, as we can use the data gathered from the area. > The area seems to be filled with a lot of trees, and it is also surrounded by mountains. It says in the records that there was a tree that existed called a "Juniper". It sounds nice, so why don't we call this area the "Valley of Junipers"? Too much? How about "Juniper Valley" instead? Well, I guess the latter sounds better. Juniper Valley it is!-

I haven't made much progress as in progress good enough for the city journal, so I've decided to display what I have. At the edge of tile A3 there are some farms; the tile itself has a lot of flat land but it's at the edge of the city tile separated from the rest of the region by some very hilly land. I figured out that while placing an industrial area here might be a good idea, SC4 will somehow break the thing apart by not sending any commuters there due to it being on the literal edge, so I placed some agriculture there instead. Nothing really to explain here so just enjoy the pics and let them speak! ================================================================================================================ REPLIES! @jebediah & @kschmidt: Thanks for commenting! You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home? Website Steam Store Page Chucklefish Games ConcernedApe, the sole developer of every aspect of this game, created Stardew Valley out of a desire for a game similar to games such as Harvest Moon but on PC. It's being published by Chucklefish games, the developer of Starbound and Wayward Tide, and publishers of a few games, including Risk of Rain. The singleplayer release of the game will be on February 26 and 4 player online co-op will be released down the line at some point as a free update. I'm personally super excited for this game, though I have never played any of the games it's similar to, or inspired by. I may have some bias because I'm very fond of Chucklefish and what they do, have followed them closely, and even have a friendship with one of their employees. But I'm sure this will be a fantastic game that I will spend many hours in. The main story arc is said to take somewhere around 50 hours to complete, and there will be countless other things to do at any given time such as build friendships and relationships with the local community, grow crops and trees across all four seasons, tend to animals, catch various fish, cook delicious meals, gather ores and fight off slimes in the mines. The soundtrack for the game containing over 70 different songs is available now and can be bought from this developer update for $4.99.

This is my first SimCity 4 map I've ever uploaded. The Zephyr River Basin is an original idea of mine while i was bored at school. It has many river converging between two mountain ranges, providing a very water-based city to develop. It is 7x7 medium tiles. Sudden Valley Terrain mod and MayorBean's OceanRiverMOD were used in the screenshot. -

A large valley among the Cinder mountain range with raging whitewater rivers, a lake at the base of Mount Cinder and many elevations to challenge the city builder while still feeling natural with adequate flat land. All of my maps are hand crafted with loving care and designed with the city builder in mind. Let me know if you spot any issues and I would love to see any cities made on this map so shoot me a link or leave it in comments. Enjoy! Steam link http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=439110575 This color correction http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=417935657 looks amazing on this map. Some screenshots have this enabled. -
Wellsville is a small town along the Ohio River in Columbiana County of Ohio. Wellsville was founded in 1795 and peeked in population in 1920 at 8,849 residence. Population in 2010 was down to 3,541. Wellsville was a huge pottery industry town and was a major part of the railway connections to Pittsburgh and Cleveland. The drop in population in large part was due to the closing of many pottery plants and factories throughout the area. Also due to the construction of the Route 7 highway which took out a very large part of the edge of the city in the 1970's.

The heightmap was carefully crafted in World Machine and imported into the Cities: Skylines map making tool for finishing. The map features a modest sized, flat central valley for city building, with a narrow meandering river cutting through the land. The valley is surrounded by tall mountains. There is a highway that travels east to west, descending steeply off the mountainside using switchbacks and elevated causeways to help navigate the steep pass. It then cuts across the valley and follows the river out the other side. The buildable tiles are focused on the central valley, but include some of the surrounding mountain terrain too if you're up for a challenge. Resources include patches of fertile ground at the bottom of the valley, ore in the mountains and lots of trees everywhere. The river has a gentle flow and will carry away waste water nicely, but it is the map's soul source of water so plan accordingly. I recommend starting your city where the highway and river are close to each other to have easy access to water and imports/exports. The highway does not contain any interchanges so you will have to construct your own, such at a standard diamond interchange or even a ground level crossing, to lead into your city. To install, place the file into your C:\Users\*USER*\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Maps folder, then you should be able to open in in the map editing tool. From there, click the gear at the top right, re-save the map and be sure to check the "Publish Map in New Game Panel" so it will be available to choose from in your main maps list. Let me know if you have any trouble. -
I don't know how known this terrain mod is as I've only found it over on the LEX, but by all means it's a gorgeous little mod. Works great. That said, it's reminiscent of crack. My game is having withdrawals for some reason. After deciding to remove the terrain mod from the plugins folder, the game crashed to the desktop when attempting to load a city tile. Doesn't matter which city tile it is. I've tried several tiles on different regions, all cause a CTD. Now if I place the terrain mod back in, game runs peachy. I've tried removing my beach mod, my tree controller, a few terrain dependency files. I still cannot load a city tile without the mod in-game. Am I forced to do a fresh re-install?

Calidore (pronounced CAL-i-DOR-ay) is a map I made for my new steampunk-themed Mayor Diary over at SC4D, but I figured somebody else might like to make use of it. The region is hand-drawn and imported into the Terraformer for finalizing. It's a very cramped cozy little region featuring mountains, rivers, a bay, islands for a downtown area, a decent amount of flat(ish) space to build, and lots of little details. Map size is 4x3 large city tiles, or 16x12 small tiles. An optional config.bmp is included for you to use at your pleasure. In-game screenshot was taken using the Columbus Terrain Mod (snowcapped peaks version), 3RR Gray Granite rock mod, PEG Brigantine water mod, and the Diagonal Jagged Edges mod (reduces the minimum slope for a cliff, so you won't see as much gray if you don't have it installed). As with most maps, this requires the SC4Terraformer. Enjoy! Feedback is always welcome. -
