City-building game(s)

  1. Hi there, I'm living my own and personal 'drama'. I just migrated from Windows 10 to Windowns 11. My SIMCITY4 RUSH HOUR from GOG WORKED perfectly in my old Windows 10 computer. My SimCity files in my old Windows 10 computer features everything to make the game work. I just copied all the files and patches and put them un an external device. Once my new computer arrived with Windows 11 I purchased back the game in GOG and copied all the files and patches back to the game (4gb pacth, simcity4 cfg, NAM 45) Finally I set the game to only use one cpu, putted to work as administrator in windows xp service pack 3) So the game loaded. Once in the regions screen I selected a randon city and... It crashed to desktop. Is there any posibility to fix this? Are there any videotutorial especifically for Windows 11 users? I'm afraid I will have to say farewell to this game which is going to be very sad. Help wanted.
  2. Hello everyone!! I'm quite concerned about my current region, the Kingdom of Borike, as somehow I got two cities that started malfunctioning these past few days. These cities apparently got so bad that they cause CTD when loading them from the region view, this means I can't enter the cities at all. I don't want to give up on these, and while I could replace the cities with blank versions to re-develop from scratch, it feels aggravating having to do so due to faulty files. The first bugged-out city is Bayaguana, this one had grown moderately large (177,000 inhabitants in the file affected), with lots of medium density and a tiny bit of high density. Second one was a small rural area north of Bayaguana, this one is called Húcar (just under 15,000 inhabitants in the last save file I have available). This one only has farmland, scattered villages, and the pre-built road network I added to it. I did some troubleshooting to check for any possible buggy mods and custom content, so far I haven't found any file that could cause this problem. Been selectively eliminating some of the most recent files and custom content to figure this out. I will also note that, due to recent power grid problems, it's entirely possible the save files got corrupted due to unstable electricity affecting my computer. I've attached the affected city files for anyone who could investigate, either through their own testing or with more advanced methods. Reino de Borike - corrupted.zip
  3. About a week ago, I shared a problem on NAM General Support with CTD when loading a city. I got the issue fixed by manually applying the 4Gb patch to the executable file of the game. However, there was one city of mine that I couldn't really play, even though it loads up just fine. The only way I can hold the city and the game running is to quickly pause the simulation once the city is loaded. But once I click the play simulation, the game stays for a few seconds then crashes. I got this very interesting log: Luckily, I still have a copy of the city (.sc4 file) and tried to load it using my existing NAM 43. It, too, crashes. Tried to demolish the airport but to no avail. I also tried to move a few steps backward by removing NAM 43 and reinstalling the previous NAM 42, which basically put me back where the last time the game was still working fine, but still not working, still crashing. This city I'm having issues with has about 400k residential population so it's quite big of a file, too, about 45 Mb. My question is, could it be possible to pinpoint the cause of the problem or both files have been corrupted and could never be recovered?
  4. Mac 64-bit Trouble Shooting

Hello everyone. I've been a bit overwhelmed trying to fix my game since it upgraded automatically from 32 to 64 bit without my permission via steam a few months back. Ever since it switched to 64 bit, many mods have become incompatible, ultimately resulting a crash to desktop. I upgraded my NAM to the latest version, which seemed to help a little bit, but i'm still experiencing brown boxes everywhere. I was wondering if any of the mac users on here have had any luck narrowing down the "trouble makers" within the plugin folder, and if anyone has been able to come up with any solutions to these issues.
  5. UPDATE: After more troubleshooting, it is the full screen setting that causes this to "crash" to desktop. Running the game windowed with the "-w" command at 1920x1080 works 100% of the time. But as soon as I switch it to fullscreen via "-f" command or otherwise, it will do the black screen glitch as described below. As many know, you can use the command "-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32" (source) in the Steam launcher to play SC4 in 1920x1080 resolution. This is causing my game to "pseudo-crash" to the desktop as described below. It doesn't actually crash, it just doesn't load the game either. I have also tried using a launcher and gotten the same results. Currently I must play the game at default resolution if I don't want to spend 5-10 minutes trying to boot up the game. Every time I try to launch SimCity 4 (Deluxe) in 1920x1080, it will black screen for a few seconds, then pseudo-crash to the desktop. THE GAME HAS NOT ACTUALLY CRASHED. It will still be running as seen in task manager and the task menu bar. I'll click into the game again, or use alt+tab to enter the game again. I'll again be presented with a black screen for a few seconds, then another "pseudo-crash" to desktop with the game still running in the taskbar. Once again, the game is still running. I'll do this around 10-15 times and suddenly the game will randomly work and run normally. This happens regardless if I use the SC4 launcher, or launch from Steam. Has anyone experienced an issue like this? It's quite annoying to spend several minutes just launching the game each time you want to play. I've done a complete uninstallation and reinstallation of the game and experience the identical results. I am 99.99% sure none of my mods actually affect this bug. The only variable that triggers it is the "-CustomResolution..." command line, or any other method of playing in non-default resolutions. What's also strange is that the same thing will happen if I set the resolution using the in game menu settings to either one of the "higher" resolutions like 1600x1200. Specs SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, from Steam Launching glitch happens when using Steam with "-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32" or the SC4 Launcher Happens regardless of using the "-CPUCount:1" command Windows 10 CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 16 core GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 1600, 6GB VRAM 64 GB RAM PC Build on PC Part Picker Comprehensive List of All My Mods (most shouldn't affect this whatsoever) 4 GB patch SC4Fix Industry High Tech fix SC4 Launcher Save WarningSC4 LauncherNetwork Addon Mod Sudden Valley Terrain Cascadia Tree Controller (and dependencies) SC4 Terraformer
  6. Followed all installation directions carefully, including deleting specified individual files. No install issues. I'm finding that any city I attempt to load (tried with multiple different cities from different regions) will get probably 2/3rds or 3/4ths of the way through loading process and then I get a CTD. Going back to the old version of NAM fixes things.
  7. Hello. I'm running SC4 steam edition on a Macbook air on MacOS Sierra. I have a lot of mods to my game, and yesterday night the game was working just fine. However tonight for whatever reason, the game does not work. I had not added anything to my SimCity files between then and now, and for whatever reason it crashes to desktop every time I attempt to load any city. In a potentially related note, between last night and now, I was noticing some weird performance issues with google chrome (my main browser), so I reset its cache, deleted search history, etc. I also had downloaded a region, but had yet to install it to the game's region files. Now it's difficult to explain the crash, because the startup of the game looks just ever so slightly different, but bear with me. For example, under typical operation, takes a couple seconds for the EA logo to initially appear, and the cursor changes to the SimCity style cursor if that makes sense. Ever Since the mystery crash "appeared", the EA logo seems to appear instantly after startup (almost like nothing is loading), and the cursor still looks like the default mac cursor. you also have to click to skip both the aspyr and SimCity video intros. after that happens, the game then "windows/minimizes" the SC4 Loading screen briefly before loading the region. Once the region is loaded, everything seems to look fine, and you can even click to load cities. However, once you're in the loading screen for a selected city, the game will just crash to desktop part way through loading it. I tried removing all plugins and mods, and it's still is doing this. The strange part is, after each crash, I look at my SimCity 4 file folders and noticed that the following two files appear to be automatically "modified" at the exact date and time that the crash occured: SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.cfg, and Macbook Air-config-log.txt I know the explanation is confusing at best, but any help is appreciated
  8. Hello everyone, Had a problem with SC4 Deluxe crashing to Desktop when I scrolled the view using the wheel on my mouse or used the + and-. Tried all of the step’ from STEX to no avail. I decided to uninstall the game and redownload it from GOG. When I first got SC4 from GOG I downloaded the game under GOG Galaxy, this time I downloaded just the game (2nd option). When I had GOG Galaxy installed, the game installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Gaxaly\games\SimCity 4 Deluxe, on the redownload it located the game to C:\GOG Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe. I checked the properties in the shortcut and in the Shortcut in the target it put “:\GOG Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition\Apps\SimCity 4 .exe” –CPUCount: 1 –f. When I had the game From Galaxy it never showed this set-up it was all about the resolution. Also with the Galaxy version installed, I could never get the resolution set in the game. When I started the game after the reload the resolution was already set to 600x800 I have since changed the resolution. I am Running Windows 10 64 bit on an HP Pavilion Notebook Laptop. So if anyone is having the same problem hopefully the information I have provided will help you with your problems with the game crashing to the desktop.
  9. Crash on startup

This is the first time the game has crashed in over a year and a half. It doesn't even reach the EA splash. I deleted (and later replaced) a plugin that was being awfully repetitive, so is this what's been causing this recent problem?
  10. I've poked around all the forums here and have been playing for a number of years. I have quite a laundry list of plugins. All is stable though, haven't had any issues with that. In fact I've retained most of the plugins for years with very little change within the last year. Anyway I'm running a custom built machine with over 10gb of ram and affinity permanently set and have had very little issue with CTD. However I'm running on this one region and got a new city about to 25,000 and I've been observing and managed to save the game literally a few moments from CTD (after putting it on cheetah speed) From what I'm gathering it's a "growable" issue. The plugins seem fine the only thing I can think of is I zoned some land right on the edge of the map and after a certain development of growth it CTD's and it's literally on clockwork. Anybody have experience with this? Can limiting the zones from the last square to the edge stop this from happening. Can you just put some green grass squares and throw in some trees and prevent this? Also another thing (maybe some of you using my mod Arizona Desert Flora, Mojave Desert Flora and Eastern California Desert Flora) is that using those mayor mode ploppables if you accidentally plop off the map (into the gray area) it will immediately CTD. I'd like to fix it but not sure how to go about it. Any suggestions?
  11. Hi all, A few months ago after installing Windows 10 and much negotiation with EA, I was given a free Digital Copy of Sim City 4 deluxe edition to work via the Origin gaming platform to compensate from disks not working on W10. Anyway, SC4 worked perfectly that it ever had done, apart from one problems, a few cities just won't load. My largest city, which worked perfectly before crashes to desktop before it loads the city, however I am not sure if city size is the problem, as one other small-medium size city will also not load. I would really love to recover my city as I've been building it since 2010 and a lot of work has gone into it. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be and how I can fix it? Can provide screenshots if required. Thank you
  12. I ported my SimCity 4 Windows installation to Ubuntu 14.04, and use PlayOnLinux to launch the game, thereby providing SimCity4 the Windows libraries it needs in order to run. Of the 4 cities I tested, 3 of them work, and one of them crashes to desktop immediately upon entering the city. This city has a population of 80K. The other 3 have populations of > 5300. If there is anyone out there in the Simtropolis community who has experience with running SimCity 4 on GNU Linux who could help me troubleshoot this problem?
  13. I don't know how known this terrain mod is as I've only found it over on the LEX, but by all means it's a gorgeous little mod. Works great. That said, it's reminiscent of crack. My game is having withdrawals for some reason. After deciding to remove the terrain mod from the plugins folder, the game crashed to the desktop when attempting to load a city tile. Doesn't matter which city tile it is. I've tried several tiles on different regions, all cause a CTD. Now if I place the terrain mod back in, game runs peachy. I've tried removing my beach mod, my tree controller, a few terrain dependency files. I still cannot load a city tile without the mod in-game. Am I forced to do a fresh re-install?
  14. A while back, I downloaded a custom region, and the lots in it were much larger than the normal Maxis ones, which I loved because I now have more space to build, and this affected the default size of the lots for the rest of the game which i didn't have much of an issue with at first. I opened a region, it loaded, terraformed to my liking, built some roads and called it a night. I went to reload it today and it kept crashing to desktop. It will load cities in smaller lots without problem, but it will never load cities in the largest size lot. If I delete the city, I the region would load again no problem, but once I go into mayor mode, save, then open the region again, it will crash to desktop like before. However, in the custom region I downloaded, the lots will load just fine, but in others it wont.
