  1. We are rapidly approaching Paeng's last post on a community forum .... which was over on the "World of Banished" on the 5th of December 2018, he had left the SC4 community back in June 2017 leaving a legacy of 289 SC4 LOTs on the STEX https://community.simtropolis.com/profile/211121-paeng/?do=content&type=downloads_file&change_section=1 What most people don't realize he was also very well know over in the Banished world not for creating mods but for being the person the modders could rely on for testing their mods and he went one step further than that .... Paeng when he tested didn't just check something worked he build communities with those mods and in a lot of cases had people looking at the screenshots he posted and going OH WOW THAT'S STUNNING, I have uploaded my collection of Paeng's Banished Pictures to Simtropolis, hopefully that will give people some idea of what Paeng the Banished player was like So how best to remember him not only for his deep love of SimCity 4 but also his love of Banished, having given this some thought I would like people to come up with their best SC4 picture using as many of Paeng's LOTs on the STEX as possible, post that picture here and in a couple of weeks I'll organize a vote and whoever wins that vote will get a steam version of Banished as a gift. If you don't want to take part, but do want to post a memory of Paeng that would be great and very welcome as well

Description: During world events, cities will often use their night lights to send a message to and on behalf of residents or for tourists and commuters alike. These can be team colors after a league championship victory, colors associated with a particular holiday or celebration, or they may highlight the colors of some nation's flag in order to express solidarity with a group of people undergoing some collective hardship. ANZAC Memorial Hyde Park, Sydney, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- The striking art-deco war memorial to the ANZACs (Australian & New Zealand Army Corps) was built in Sydney's Hyde Park between 1932 and 1934. It is heritage listed. The memorial is the focus of commemoration ceremonies on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. The building design was part of a competition commissioned in 1929 with a brief that the building cost no more than 75,000 pounds. The building is clad in pink granite with a large arched stained glass window on each elevation and there are bronze friezes above the lower doorways as well as the large sculptures atop columns representing military personnel. The interior features a small museum and halls of silence and halls of memory. To the north of the memorial is a reflection pool lined with poplars. Placing this park lot - as well as blending in with many other modular/maxis parks available, will also greatly assist city growth, clean the air over a wide radius, improve desirability with residential and commercial areas and help bust demand caps across all wealth levels. --------------------------------------- STATS PARK: Lot size : 6x12 Bulldoze Cost: $90 Plop Cost: $2,880 Demand Satisfied:R$ 18,000, R$$ 18,000, R$$$ 18,000 Landmark Effect: +100 over 10 tiles Park Effect: +135 over 135 tiles Pollution: -144 (Air)/ 9 (Water)/ 0 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 18/9/0 Power Consumed: 0 Mwh Water Consumed: 45 Gal/Month Monthly Cost: $90 Occupant Group: Civic; Park --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: There are two model files in this download. Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Washington DC, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- The strikingly simple and poignant Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC honours those who fought in the Vietnam War. The park is dominated by a black granite wall with the names of those who lost their lives during this terrible conflict. The memorial was completed in 1982. The design was very controversial in its day: people stated the black granite was nihilistic and they complained about the lack of ornamentation - but it is this absolute simplicity which (to me) makes it worthy of being included in SC4. This is a 10x6 heavily wooded, seasonal park lot. The triangular granite wall cuts through and under the ground and a path follows the slope to the base and back again: the engraved granite panels act as a retaining wall for the ground behind it. The park will blend in with the SFBT medium wealth set (as well as the basic Maxis parks) and so can be enlarged and made modular (as I have done in the pictures). The actual wall has been modelled and modded especially to receive shadows from the objects around it which enhances the trompe l'oeil effect that this model imparts. The panel also includes the text of names (and outline of which is just visible in the tiny SC4 scale). While it is not an exact replica (SC4 doesn't take kindly to models that both above and below the ground), it is reasonably close, and it certainly imparts the feeling of the real-world structure. Placing this park will significantly improve commercial and residential desirability, reduce pollution and provide significant residential and commercial cap relief. --------------------------------------- STATS PARK: Lot size : 10x6 Bulldoze Cost: § 80 Plop Cost: § 2,400 Demand Satisfied: R§ 65,000, R§§ 95,000, R§§§ 65,000, CO§§ 25,000 CO§§§ 25,000 Landmark Effect: +110 over 40 tiles Park Effect: +140 over 120 tiles Pollution: -40 (Air)/ 8 (Water)/ 0 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 16/8/0 Power Consumed: 0 Mwh Water Consumed: 40 Gal/Month Monthly Cost: § 100 Occupant Group: Civic; Park; YIMBY --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: There are two model files in this download. 6. LP46, Beirut

Gaia Beirut Plaza, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- This BAT is a replica of a simple memorial which stood in Beirut. In 2018, the director of the Letitia Gallery in Beirut, Gaia Foudolian, commissioned British artist Nathaniel Rackowe to make a metal sculpture (called simply LP46) to stand in the city's Martyr Square as part of 'The Shape of a City' project. The sculpture was removed a year and half later amid controversy which left both Nathaniel and Gaia dumbfounded: I will not elaborate on that controversy, but in the words of the artist, the piece represented the architecture of the city: "...the bones of new buildings...I used light to transform the hard material of steel, as a means to reveal beauty in the city." It is crucial to recognise the value of arts and culture to our society: art can influence by uniting, by dividing, by changing opinions, challenging values and providing a visual medium that translates experiences fundamental to the sense of self and place that transcend space and time. The blast which shattered Beirut shortly after 6pm on August 4, 2020, destroyed the Letitia Gallery (which, like most of Beirut's galleries and museums, is close to the port district) and killed its director Gaia Foudolian. Most of us will live our lives with little fanfare and influence only those in our immediate sphere: our stories will not be recorded in verse, nor will our likeness be portrayed by great artists to adorn the walls of galleries. Cities will not rise or fall before us, and in our passing, with time, we too will be forgotten just as all of those since the beginning of time who have gone before us are forgotten. This piece of art originally commissioned by Gaia, is returned for her memory, and for all of those ordinary citizens of Beirut whose lives have been taken and altered by this inconceivable tragedy. It is offered as a 2x2 plaza lot (found in the parks menu). Placing it will boost the desirability of nearby residential and commercial areas, as well as alleviating residential demand CAPs which can inhibit city growth. --------------------------------------- STATS PLAZA: Lot size : 2x2 Plop Cost: $ 90 Bulldoze Cost: $ 141 Demand Satisfied:R$ 16,000, R$$ 16,000, R$$$ 16,000 Pollution: 0 (Air)/ 0 (Water)/ 0 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 0/0/0 Park Effect: 20 over 40 tiles Landmark Effect: 100 over 10 tiles Monthly cost: $ 45 Power Consumed:0 Mwh Water Consumed: 0 Gal/Month Occupant Group: Building: Civic; Park --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: This download contains TWO model files; one for dark nite users (and other night-time darkening mods, such as Gizmos night-mod) and one for the standard Maxis nite. SM2 Perry's Victory Memorial From Wikipedia "A 352-foot (107 m) monument — the world's most massive Doric column — was constructed in Put-in-Bay, Ohio by a multi-state commission from 1912 to 1915 "to inculcate the lessons of international peace by arbitration and disarmament." The memorial was designed after an international competition from which the winning design by Joseph H. Freelander and A.D. Seymour was chosen. Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial was established to honor those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812, and to celebrate the long-lasting peace among Britain, Canada and the U.S. The Memorial column, rising over Lake Erie, is situated five miles from the longest border in the world" Lot size 3X5 Landmark effect 40 over 20 tiles Plop cost 85000 Bulldoze cost 4500 Power req 15 Water req 0 Monthly Maintenance 250 You will find in under the Landmark menu. 9. Gretna Memorial Park

From the album New Marseilles Metro Area

Gretna Memorial Park is a park dedicated to sailors and navy men of the USS Gretna who were from the state of Eloisiana. USS Gretna (DD-861), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named after Captain Martin C. Gretna, who served in the U.S. navy during the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Captain Gretna was the first US flag officer to die during World War II, and the first American captain ever to be killed in action.[3] A National Historic Landmark, the USS Gretna is now a museum ship, berthed on the Eloise River at Gretna Memorial Park in Gideon, Eloisiana. There's also a statue in honor of the late captain in the central northern area of the park.

Shelby is a city in Cleveland County, NC, USA. This city is my hometown and I decided to make a series of lots and what-not to honor it. As a result of the more small and rural cities/towns I am beginning to create I felt a thirst for certain civic buildings with more flavor. Looking at the same old courthouse and city hall, I just felt like they were so scrunched in or made for close together areas. So I made this remodeled lot to appeal to the more artsy eye? Basically the lot fills a 6x6 space. Its outer square is line with tiled cement, or pavement. The outer-inner square is a grass texture. The inner most square is the pavement again for the foundation of the building. The lot is covered with flora. The back of the building has a small parking lot. and the front a fountain. I just modified the Maxis Courthouse. ------------NOTICE------------------ This now includes V2 of the Courthouse. V2 has a statue in front of the building. There are two files you can download if you wish, installation has not changed. Includes V3 no trees. (Just random planters XD) --------------Dependencies------------------------ Maxis Buildings As Props Augustus Caesar Statues Sorry no links. I recommend for the best search if you can't immediately find on STEX, is Google or the Lex(registration required) So far there are NO BROWN BOXES. Please notify me if you have this problem in your city, provide a picture. IMPORTANT NOTICE!: Since this may have the same file ID as the Maxis Courthouse you are to "move, but keep both files" for correct installation. This depends though if you want to keep the older one. Since I plan on making a center in my cities made perfectly for large, beautified buildings Ill only be using this one, but the older is key for areas with smaller buildings.

The luxury steamship RMS Titanic met its catastrophic end in the North Atlantic, plunging two miles to the ocean floor after sideswiping an iceberg during its maiden voyage. Rather than the intended Port of New York, a deep-sea grave became the pride of the White Star Line’s final destination in the early hours of April 15, 1912. More than 1,500 people lost their lives in the disaster. This is a rendition of what it could have looked like form one of the few that survived. What made many people meet their fate was the lack of lifeboats. No one thought the Titanic could sink, so not enough lifeboats were on board. Other than the ones on board, it took 2 hours after the distress call for another ship, the Carpathia, to arrive. By then many people had dorwned or froze to death. The Titanic still rests on the ocean floor and has yet to be fully explored. Other reent devlopments have been made inculding finding the iceburg based off the pictures of one of the survivors Yes that iceburg still floats around the sea, a haunting reminder of the fateful day A list of the victims of the Titanic disaster can be found here deepest sympathies go out to all thoose who lost their lives in this disaster.

Thisis a bat of the Halifax Explosion Memorial Bell Tower in the City's Fort Needham Park. Ninety-one years ago today, on December 6, 1917, disaster struck Halifax in the form of the largest man-made explosion before the invention of nuclear weapons. The Explosion occurred when two ships, the Mont Blanc and Imo, collided in Halifax Harbour. The Mont Blanc was fully loaded with munitions and caught fire. The ship's crew fled and the stricken vessel drifted right into the Halifax waterfront around Pier 6. Almost nobody knew what the Mont Blanc was carrying so no one thought to take cover or flee. The eventual explosion devastated Halifax. Everything within a 2 km radius was flattened and roughly 12,000 other homes were badly damaged. Toppled woodstoves ignited the ruins and fires burned out of control since the city's fire department was virtually wiped out in the blast (firefighters were on Pier 6 trying to extingish the blaze at the time of the Explosion). Approximately, 2,000 people died and 9,000 others were injured. Relief efforts were hampered by a blizzard that struck the very next day. The first major shipment of outside aid to reach Halifax came from Boston, something that Haligonians and Nova Scotians have never forgot. This is why every year, Boston’s official Christmas Tree is carefully picked from the wilds of Nova Scotia and is provided to the city free of charge by the provincial government. The long-term impact of the Explosion on Halifax was major. The disaster wiped out the city’s already struggling industrial base. Most of the industry was never rebuilt. The devastated North End rose anew as the Hydrostones, Canada’s first public housing project. Halifax became a centre for research into blindness due to the large number of people whose vision was damaged by flying glass. American military planners carefully studied Halifax and a similar incident in Port Chicago, CA, in preparation for the atomic bomb attacks on Japan. The Explosion is remembered by Haligonians every year at the Memorial Bell Tower in Fort Needham Park. To this day, the North face of the clock tower on Halifax City Hall is frozen in time at 9:05. Included in this upload are two lots, a plain 1x3 plaza and a 1x4 park lot that is compatible with the BSC Park set. See the readme for complete details.

The Drop N' Plop Boneyard is now a reality. This kit includes 7 new lots that will allow you to assemble your own Memorial Park. When used with the Scenic Drive Kit, you can construct massive, sprawling memorial parks... or use the pieces individually for small and intimate boneyards wherever you like. "Bring Out Your Dead"... they've got a new home. ** This kit uses props from the bldgprop_vol1.dat and the Vehicle_Props-V3.dat. However, the required elements have been removed and added to the kit so there are no outside dependencies... other than the game itself. ** Be sure to look for the brain-eating Zombies who get up to stretch their legs every October. **This file currently contains an .exe installer suitable for windows users. My Great Grandfather captained a clipper ship and was lost in a storm in the 1880s. No place of honor existed for him and his men at that time. But I like to think his name is en-scribed upon the walls of this Mariner's Memorial. This particular lot has been months in the making and has been more a labor of love than neccessity. It is certainly my personal favorite... despite being the most difficult to create. Zoom in at night, query the lot... and prepare to be moved. This add-on pack contains 2 versions of the same memorial... the standard version and a Transit Enabled version. Both versions are visually identical. This kit includes custom textures, custom query & sound effect... and a new custom translucent query window. The flag requires the PEG 'One Flag-Many Nations' mod in order to fly the flag of your own nation or preference. Without that mod, no flag will be shown. The standard version is suitable for placement inside existing memorial parks. It already includes the non-functional Scenic Drive road and parking area. The Transit Enabled version is suitable for placement as a stand alone memorial park. It must be connected to a functional street/road/avenue. Without this access, vehicles, most notably hearses, will spawn on it and have no way out. Do not place this version in mid-park without road access. The Transit Enabled version is designed to convert incoming vehicle traffic to pedestrian traffic and visa versa. This should accurately simulate visitors driving to the memorial, parking, and eventually getting back in their cars and driving off. Dependencies: 1. PEG One Flag Many Nations Mod (optional - required to display the flag) **This file currently contains an .exe installer suitable for windows users. On a quiet Sunday morning December 7, 1941 a Japanese surprise air attack left the Pacific Fleet in smoldering heaps of broken, twisted steel. Here, peace was interrupted and paradise lost. In hours, 2,390 futures were stolen, half of these casualties from the battleship Arizona. Behind the shadows of destroyed airfields, aircraft, and ships, America fought fear, and a determined enemy responding with an unrivaled war effort. An epic battle for democratic ideals and world freedom would bloody the fields of Europe and the islands of the Pacific over the next four years. The USS Arizona Memorial as a national shrine symbolizes American sacrifice and resolve.
