    Replies: First of all I just want to say thank you to SC4L0ver, frdrcklim, nycsc4, Prophet42, kelistmac, T Wrecks, airman15 and Whte_rbt for their comments. I replied to most of them and I want to say thanks to T Wrecks for exploring my method of plopping residential some more. Entry 5: Another Update on Pololomia Here are twelve more pictures of Pololomia, I've considerably expanded the city and now I'm working on the border between the city and the countryside. 1. And here is Pololomia so far. Right now I am filling in the parts of the city centre which aren't complete, then I'm going to work some more on the industrial area to the left and then create some rural areas along the left side of this picture. 2. More grid-busting. 3. Suburban area close to the countryside. 4. The secret with suburbs is offsetting some sides of the suburban block with a tile or two (or more) of fillers. It's very easy to zone everything to the main road or street, but having a main road with only one (or no) side of residential can look more realistic. 5. Now we go to the city centre. 6. Loving Mattb325's new buildings- to the left is his urban school and in the centre is his First Federal Bank building. 7. In the centre of the picture is this school. 8. Using fillers I expanded the size of the school grounds and made it far more distinctive: a perimeter fence, car park, greenhouses, etc... 9. Squeezing out every last drop from FrankU's Dutch Parks! 10. The criss-crossing railways divide up the city. 11. I have changed parts of the industrial area to the northwest. Gone is the garbage dump and in its place rail sidings and a grain processing factory! 12. Making the most of Simmer2's rail sidings. The next update will probably be more rural as I move into MMP work and more organic, grid-busting sights. So stay tuned for that next weekend!

    Welcome to The URS! What is The URS? Well... 1. The URS stands for Urban/Rural/Scenic. 2. This CJ will cover all sorts. 3. Lush, green suburbs... 4. With rich details and some nice patterns. 5. Commercial areas and civic complexes... 6. With some realistic spacing and division of areas. 7. Diagonals are covered too! 8. And I throw in all kinds of fillers to make areas look interesting. 9. And what about the urban, W2W and inner city areas? 10. No problem! 11. But we are forgetting industry! 12. And of course the MMPs! 13. Rougher, low-wealth and rundown areas are also covered in The URS. 14. Old content meets new content. You will see old plugins effortlessly fit in with new content, new mods and new fillers. 15. And of course every area and every city will have its own feeling to it. So that's The URS in a nutshell. This month and the next I am working on a city tile.   7. Hi! I showcased this picture about my current region a few days ago. Here is an overview about NoirCity's three already developed/WIP districts - on the left handside is North Harbour, the right upper city tile is Suburbiana, the lower district is CounterPoint. I'm planing a massive agricultural area for next, above North Harbour and above Suburbiana and I need some help. I have a lot of I-R/I-AG stuff: SPAM, BSC agri stuff etc, but I don't know which one is compatible with others or not, I don't have any experience with agri stuff and I don't want to use the Maxis "gems". I would like to use functianal items in a big variety, canals/streams (but not the fency ones - I think there is a few ditch canal types out there, and SPAM has its own as well), and MMP as well (but first the functional items). So I need some advice how to build up my agricultural plugin folder. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! - Tyberius

    Would it be possible to commission someone who knows what they are doing to create a building for me? Nothing fancy. 4x4 high rise. I would like it to employ 10,000 industrial jobs, mainly high tech and manufacturing, no crime or pollution if possible. I know this is cheap and a hack, but am interested in it.   9. Industrial - v2.2

    So... let's begin with version 2.2. For reference, this is version 2.0 - before the IRM Pack installation. The pictures says stage 1 but it is actually stage 2. The first one was just a horrible (could it be possible?!) mash of street, roads and avenues with extremely cluttered industry and severe traffic congestion. The Maxis Highway was replaced yesterday with a more ... "prettier" NAM highway. It totally killed city funds. 40,000-something Simoleans dropped to roughly 16,000 because the Network muppets didn't know what they were doing. The change was clearly needed because driving through the city was a major pain in the backside. All these on and off ramps in all directions would drive any sane person mad - no pun intended! In the pipeline Figure out where to place railroad Shuffle industry to fit with railroad Focus on South-West sector (workforce from Residential Evil) Whatever else springs to mind as work progresses And since I cannot link a picture from URL...   10. Back from addon hell

    So I have been away from both the game and this forum for over a year. The reason is rather pathetic, but I think I'm not the first to have experienced it. Addon and Mod HELL! I got so invested in finding new addons and mods, ploppables, auto stuff, you name it, that I actually got burned out from all of it. I remember spending more time sorting and indexing my 100 or so addons (which I know is a small number for other Sim-users) and trying to figure out what worked and what didn't, where to find stuff in game and looking for dependencies that required dependencies, that required... BAH! The one mod that broke me was the IRM Base Pack (Industrial mod). I reached a point where I had to figure out why some of the basic Maxis buildings were, and still are, missing. But I just can't be arsed looking for a solution. Not yet anyway. I'm slowly getting back to the game and have been tweaking Residential Evil a tad bit. Some libraries have been relocated, a house of worship was also relocated after two others were burnt to the ground by fanatics. There is also a recently built Little League Stadium with an arcade hall and tourist trap nearby. As for Industrial (what a lame name), it is my biggest headache right now. It's one giant temporary solution. What I really should do is drop a nuke and have it all erased and start over. But that would be way too easy. The main goal is to demolish the Maxis Highway and replace it with NAM, and re-route the railroad. But first I need to get the RHW-4 neighbour connections sorted. The work-around is avenues.

Jenquai goes from that small half underground building which steps back from the lot (and is accessed via a sort of draw-bridge) to a shiny, new and much larger facility. Just like the previous building which had sunken areas and elevated walkways, this new IHT factory provides a lovely, leafy sunken courtyard for employees to take lunch as well as a raised walkway connecting the two buildings.     Pedriana Pharmaceuticals, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- As part of providing some much needed, long overdue upgrades to some of the Maxis I-HT stalwarts, I decided that Pedriana Pharmaceuticals deserved a new 're-imaging' for the 21st Century. After all, the in-game structure that has been filling up any I-HT zone for almost 15 years does not reflect the grandiose commercial buildings which bear its name, so it is probably overdue for a facelift and some rebranding. Please note that this new file doesn't interfere with the original Maxis files and will work for those who have a Maxis blocker installed. This I-HT Anchor building is substantial and only comes as an 8x8 lot (use the CTRL Key while zoning to ensure that you get the correct lot size). It is growable only on high density Industrial zones and provides 1,079 jobs. The building itself is fictional, but draws inspiration from the Voestalpine Stahl Service Center in Austria.     Kane Tiberium, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- As part of providing some much needed, long overdue upgrades to some of the Maxis I-HT stalwarts, I decided that Kane Tiberium deserved a new 're-imaging' for the 21st Century. After all, the in-game dumpy little structure has been filling up any I-HT zone for almost 15 years, so it is probably due for some extra space. Given the initial rather pointless reference to an external game with the naming of this building, I doubt that such an industry could survive all this time in the real world. So in my version, Kane Tiberium makes NutriliteTM vitamins, minerals & dietary supplements products to turn a buck. Please note that this new file doesn't interfere with the original Maxis files and will work for those who have a Maxis blocker installed. This I-HT Anchor lot comes in two flavours: 4x3 and 4x4 (use the CTRL Key while zoning to ensure that you get the correct lot size). It is growable only on medium and high density Industrial zones and provides between 300 jobs. The building itself is based on a boxy mid-century modern design and brings a retro flair to your industrial zones.     Stratton Biotech, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- As part of providing some much needed, long overdue upgrades to some of the Maxis I-HT stalwarts, I decided that Stratton Biotech deserved a new 're-imaging' for the 21st Century. After all, it has been filling up any I-HT zone for almost 15 years, so it is probably due for some extra space. Please note that this new file doesn't interfere with the original Maxis files and will work for those who have a Maxis blocker installed. This I-HT Anchor lot comes in two flavours: 4x4 and 8x8 (use the CTRL Key while zoning to ensure that you get the correct lot size). It is growable only on medium and high density Industrial zones and provides between 204 and 1,122 jobs (depending on the lot size). The building itself is strictly fictional: I have used exposed steel girders, a false wall and false window panelling to shelter a central courtyard. This lends a more substantial air to the front façade.   20. Hi everyone I am having a problem with Paengs IND Alleys. I only get one single tile instead of 3 tiles (straight piece) and cannot connect tiles together as the notice shows the neighbour tile is already occupied (though it is blank). See pic. I can separate the tiles, but cannot get them together to make a concurrent alley: Does anyone know why this is the case or am I using them incorrectly? I have tried dragging road through, but they remain as road in between Thanks for any help. PC

  22. All this time playing SC4 and I had been building a very large industrial area. The puffs of smoke started to become irritating and causing the game to lag. I was going to ask if there's a mod to eliminate the smoke, but then went to Graphics Options and simply changed Visual Effects to Low and the smoke puffs disappeared. The vehicle automata improved. I'd rather see the vehicles than all that smoke. So this is an option if you are building a major industrial city.
  23. I made another little experimental city with 4000 people (not yet about the number of jobs). The issue I'm trying to work out is that I have a whole strip of industry on top of the map, is it normal to have to rely heavily on industrial zones? I know that commercial won't come until there is a much bigger population (and by my standards, 10000+ is big). Without modding, is there anyway I don't have to rely on so much, crippling my water and air pollution ratings?
