Sound effects are gone, everything else is fine
HazardDefined posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hello everyone! I've been playing SimCity4 on Steam for a couple of months now and all of the sudden, the sound is gone. I've troubleshot the issue using the on game controls and I can get the Background Music (BGM) to play without an issue, and control it using the volume up and down. I've tried doing the same with Audio and nothing, zero. Has anyone had this happened? Thanks for your time and patience! -
How to change SFX:Query Sound property? [SOLVED]
Paolo80 posted a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Hi guys, I edited some lots but I don't like their query sound. I found the SFX:Query Sound property and I would want to change its value. My question is: where can I find values of the game query sounds? Thanks- 13 Replies

I got very often annoying sound loops when playing different city tiles. This issue seems to get worse related to the growth of the city. This could be something like traffic or machinery noise, an extremely annoying snoring sound etc.. One solution ist to save, leave and restart the tile, sometimes even that doesn´t work. I know that I could I can switch off or reduce the sound in the settings but I don´t like that. Is that a game´s bug? Is my computer in overload? Is there something around like the "helicopter silencer mod"? Just in case: I`m on the the mac version of the game.

Missing sound effects on Linux using Steam Proton
Calvss posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hi! I'm trying to get back into the game after several years, but now I'm running Debian stable. Installation was pretty smooth, just download from Steam and the game runs fine (even with hardware acceleration!) I noticed that some sound effects were missing, such as road building, button clicks, bulldozing, etc. but all the music still plays. I've tried switching Proton versions from standard, 7.0-3, 6.3-8 5.13-6, GE 7-16, and GE 7-20 and I'm getting the same problem no matter what version I use. I've attached the contents of config-log.txt if it helps. It seems like it can detect my sound driver fine, so I don't know what the issue could be. P.S. congrats to the NAM team, NAM installation was totally painless config-log.txt -

Morning everyone. Sooooo, I was testing out the IRM when all my residential decided to grow into lovely UK terrace houses (I nearly cried with joy) so I figured I would make them all Historical. After awhile the door chime query sound was really starting to irritate me so I decided to have a search around the STEX and LEX to see if there was a mod available that would disable this newly found annoyance...alas I came up with nothing. Is this really the case? Is there no mod that disables the sounds of hell? I know I can mute my sound but I kinda like the rest of the audio.....

I heard it again today, not for the first time. This time it was while building power plants. I'm wondering if the two are related. Anyone ever hear the sound of a horse whinnying? So weird. There are no horses in my city. Suddenly I hear this horse sound.

I don't know how to describe it but sure everyone has experienced it at random times. I use 2 monitors, and from time to time click and do things on 2nd monitor and when I get back to game, I get random sound effects when the window is active to use. It's normally related to the last item I placed and seems like a bug related to Subway placement and menu lag (I completely stopped using Subways because of this) The issue I'm having seems to come from PEG Water sources and have an annoying Swoosh sound with water. The main issue that really annoys me is it seems to somehow over-ride the system audio. I tried disabling the audio and lowering the volume bar, but this seems like this audio is not part of the game and linked to my Microsoft Windows Audio. What's up with this and any way to adjust ?

We can all agree that SimCity 4 is superior in so many ways comparing to SimCity 3000, the game from which I begun. But one thing I miss from SC3K is its sound effects. It has a great variety of nostalgic and fun sound effects when you query buildings, like the sounds of the Performing Art Center and the Spaceport, and the ambient sounds are so vivid and colorful and with such a variety and personality. I miss them. That's right, I miss them. The ambient sounds of SimCity 4 are more generic, realistic and down-to-earth, something that you could hear them in real world, which is great for getting the feeling of building a modern city, but lacks the charm of SimCity 3000. I like hearing dogs, cars and birds when I'm over a low density neighborhood, but I miss hearing children and lawnmowers. I like hearing the SC4 sounds of machinery when I'm over an industrial area, but I miss hearing the SC3K sounds of computer bleepings and robotic arms. There are so many ambient sounds effects from SC3K that I wish I could hear them in SC4 too, along with the SC4 sounds of course. And let us not forget the variety of sounds you could hear in SC3K when you query the buildings. Almost each building has its own sound effect, which is something I miss in SC4. For instance, why all parks and all power plants share the same sound effects? Why not having a different sound effect to each park and power plant, like hearing children playing when you query the playground? As I said, I miss those sounds. And I wish I could have them back, hearing both SC3K and SC4 sound effects. But is it possible? In the topic Comprehensive SimCity Music Collection, Version 3 made by @biff we'll find a nostalgic jukebox of music tracks from older SimCity games. There is also a link named "Game sounds" that contains a folder with all the sounds effects of SimCity 3000, including those from World Edition/Unlimited/UK Version/you name it. So here is my question. Can we use this library to expand the variety of SC4 sound effects by adding SC3K sound effects?

This simply eliminates all ambient sound effects from motorcycle automata. I've found that certain neighborhoods get stuck with endless motorcycle traffic, and I think the volume level is out of balance with other traffic sounds and thus a little distracting. Not everyone may agree though! No dependencies. It should be compatible with any other mod, except for mods that specifically affect motorcycle automata. Installation: unzip and place the z_motorcycle.dat file into your Plugins folder. To uninstall, simply delete that file. Inspired by the Helicopter Sound Silencer mod. Enjoy! -
I'm making my first building (using the School of Science as template, with 3 sub-buildings plus the main building) and I have almost everything ready except for a couple of things: 1. One of the sub-buildings has some visible underground parts. So I used Ronyx69's script to remove the automatic mesh and apply the NoBase shader, and it seemed to work correctly. I imported all of the sub buildings into the main one and it seemed to be working okay. But after saving the asset, I noticed these kind of z-fighting glitches, which to me look like the automatic underground mesh did not get removed correctly and is now using the sub building's textures for some reason. They also appear in game after placing the building. Any idea on how to fix this? 2. When I place the building in game and I zoom into it, the ambient sound is very very different from the one the vanilla School of Science has, it kind of sounds like a large crowd instead of the quiet-ish sounds the vanilla building has. Is there any way to change the ambient sound of the building? Thank you

Hello all, Does anyone know how to make a custom sound bank for an automaton? By that I don't mean simply choosing one of the Maxis in-game sound banks, but actually creating a new one from scratch. To make a custom instant sound one simply needs to import a .wav file with the right settings. But how to turn that into a sound bank that plays during UDI, and varies its pitch or frequency accordingly to the automaton's speed? Any insigths welcome, thanks.

Hello all, I have recently built a new windows XP system for playing SimCity 4 that's a bit better then my old system. Anyways, I installed SimCity 4 & the rush hour expansion, then I installed the update and I also installed the full Network mod as well. Windows XP is fully updated with the latest updates. I get the music, but I don't have any sound effects. I even took and uninstalled the onboard audio and installed a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card and it didn't help. I get no sound effects at all. So anytime I click on info icon then click a building there is no sound, and there is no sound when building a road or destroying a building. It works fine on my other system, but not this one. Any ideas? The game runs pretty good, except for a bit of lagging when I am running triple speed. I think this is probably due to the video card which I plan on updating to a Radeon HD 3850 if I can find one at a good price. System Info: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Socket 939 MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum WD Velociraptor 150GB SATA 2.5GB DDR400 Ram Radeon 9700 128MB AGP Video card Windows XP Home SP3 and all updates

Modern Sound Barriers, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- A set of nine sound barrier lots to grace your ground-level highways, heavy rail (etc): really, these can be placed anywhere you think noise from adjacent transport lots might be an issue for your long-suffering sims. While there are other noise barrier lots out there, I found that some were simply too big, some were too grungy, some didn't have diagonal options and there was a distinct lack of modern-looking barriers, so I made some to suit my own taste. These sound barriers are a modern concrete, steel and glass option. The lots have Orthogonal, Diagonal, Orthogonal to Diagonal and Left and Right Overhanging options. The Ortho->Diag options can be a bit fiddly to place, but you'll soon get the hang of it and to that end each lot has a custom icon to try and make the job a little easier (the standard ortho and diagonals simply have a grey line icon, while the more complex ones have a little picture as well). As a general rule, you should aim to place these lots with the curved glass top facing towards the noise (this has a cupping effect to dampen the noise beyond the wall). They are found in the parks menu - about half way down. Now, depending on your plugins folder they may not be sequential (i.e. other park lots might appear in between) but they will be very closely positioned to each other in the menu. As I made these for myself and designed them to be high-end, nice looking sound walls, they do have a park effect (and associated monthly cost), so if you are trying to keep your city looking grungy, don't use these. While some of you may think that this is very un-realistic, please be mindful that you would only see these sorts of walls bordering nicer residential/commercial/industrial areas in real life, so these lots are designed to stimulate medium to high wealth growth rather than simply being neutral...unfortunately this is the way the game works and to my mind, when modding something with an in-built desirability, it should come with an associated cost. All the lots have been made transparent (and do not suffer the water bug) so that they will blend in with your terrain. --------------------------------------- STATS: Lot size : 1x1 - 1x2 Plop Cost: §40 Occupant Groups: Medium Wealth Park; Civic Park Effect: +15 over 15 tiles Landmark Effect: +20 over 10 tiles Pollution: Air (-)2 over 2 tiles, Water 1 over 1 tiles, Garbage 0 over 0 tiles Power consumed: 0 MwH Water consumed: 5 Gallons/Month Monthly Cost: §5 Bulldoze Cost: §10 --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: I've never seen a highway wall self illuminate, so there is only one model file: the day version. --------------------------------------- DEPENDENCIES: This file does not require external dependencies. --------------------------------------- To install, simply unzip the contents of this file into your plugins folder. Thanks, and enjoy! -

I currently have the plus edition of SimCity, no deluxe upgrade as of yet. My game keeps alt tabbing out at random times which gets annoying. Eventually the game will stop making certain sounds (music and SFX), however still functions normally (with alt tabbing). I've read up somewhere that the game only uses 2 cores and I did adjust the affinity to use only two, although this makes the game function slow/unresponsive as well. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Here are my specs: VGA: AMD R9 280x RAM: 16GB CPU: intel Core i5 4670k 3.40GHz OS: Windows 8.1 Thanks PS: I have no mods installed yet.

Yep. It's just what you think it is. The road construction sound effect never stops. Even when I have no roads under construction. No idea if it's a well-known problem or how to fix it - if that's even possible - but I thought that if anywhere, here is where I'll find the answers to my questions.

Every time I play SimCity, the sound crashes. Not just in game sound, but all sound on my computer. As soon as I close the game, sound comes back. Have tried just about everything I can think of: updated/reinstalled drivers, restarted system, and checked all sound settings. I'm lucky to get an hour of play before it quits again. I talked to someone on EA live chat, and he said he had never heard of this problem. I sent a video of the sound copping out, and he said he would pass it on the the developers. It happened in the load screen while I was changing towns, but it seems to happen randomly. Anyone else had this problem? Any ideas? Thanks.

Has anyone seen or heard of a way to get rid of construction noise, in my game it is constant and way more anoying than the helicopter except, I easily found a way to silence the helicopter. --- I have slightly edited the topic title to make the content of this thread more clear. - timmie
