  1. No Sound effects

Thank you everyone for the help and advice. I ended up uninstalling the network mod to see if it would change anything and it didn't, so I uninstalled the entire game. I then took and restarted the computer and reinstalled the game. I am now getting the sound effects, which is nice. Now I have another problem and I think it is probably the sound card, although it does seem to just be in this game when it is in play mode for the most part. It almost seems like feedback when the game is running. So I am going to try uninstalling the sound card and use the onboard sound again. Thanks again everyone. So I don't know if something screwed up during the installation last time or what, but it seems the sound effects problem is fixed for now.
  2. Awesome, thank you so much. I received two emails. One saying I was quoted and 1 saying there was a reply. Thank you for all the help!
  3. OK, thank you again for the help!
  4. I got a notification under the bell icon at the top, but no email. Because I don't have the site open all the time or if I am at work it would be nice if there was an option to have an email sent as well, just so that I know someone has replied. Is this option not available? Thank you for your help
  5. Thank you both for your replies. It seems like the only way it is sending me a reply to a topic I follow is if someone has quoted me. Any other forum I have been on, if I follow a topic or reply to a topic & follow it then when someone replies to it, I will get an email, but it seems here I only get the email if someone quote's me. And ya, I found those options late yesterday as I didn't scroll down far enough apparently the first time.
  6. I see to be having problems receiving notifications of topic updates/replies. I have double checked all my account and email settings and I have it set so that I should receive an email as soon as a reply has been posted, but I haven't received any emails for a couple of topics I am subscribed too. I have made sure my email is correct as well. Is anyone else having this problem?
  7. No Sound effects

OK, so I took and checked into the older post and I tried changing my speaker setup from 2 speakers to headphones and it didn't change anything. Checked the other two files were there and they were. And my Athlon XP system also has a Sound Blaster card in it. Here is the info from the log file.....
  8. No Sound effects

K, thanks again for the help! I took and ran dxdiag and even ran the tests under sound and music tabs and everything was good with no errors. im thinking maybe I should do a complete uninstall and reinstall the game. I don't have much saved right now as I just got this system running.
  9. No Sound effects

Thank you for your reply. I checked all my windows audio settings and everything is good. Took and added that extension like you said and it changed nothing. the music works, just the sound effects don't. I just hope I don't have to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall. Even took and tried with the sound checked and unchecked and made no difference. It's weird. Because I installed it the exact same as I did on my other system running Windows XP.
  10. Hello all, I have recently built a new windows XP system for playing SimCity 4 that's a bit better then my old system. Anyways, I installed SimCity 4 & the rush hour expansion, then I installed the update and I also installed the full Network mod as well. Windows XP is fully updated with the latest updates. I get the music, but I don't have any sound effects. I even took and uninstalled the onboard audio and installed a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card and it didn't help. I get no sound effects at all. So anytime I click on info icon then click a building there is no sound, and there is no sound when building a road or destroying a building. It works fine on my other system, but not this one. Any ideas? The game runs pretty good, except for a bit of lagging when I am running triple speed. I think this is probably due to the video card which I plan on updating to a Radeon HD 3850 if I can find one at a good price. System Info: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Socket 939 MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum WD Velociraptor 150GB SATA 2.5GB DDR400 Ram Radeon 9700 128MB AGP Video card Windows XP Home SP3 and all updates
  11. Well, I finally decided to start getting back into SimCity 4 after years of not playing it. Took and installed it on an old System I've had for quite a while. Specs are; Athlon XP 2500+ Barton, 1.5gb dual channel DDR400 ram, Gigabyte ga-7n400 pro2 motherboard, 20gb Maxtor hard drive, Windows XP SP3, Radeon 9600pro advantage 256mb, Sound blaster audigy, 1280x1024 resolution on a 17" Dell LCD monitor. installed SimCity 4 and the Rush Hour expansion plus the latest patch and the latest network mod. Going to start with the tutorials and then then see if I can get my old save games to load. Going to be upgrading to an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ in the next month or so and staying with Windows XP. Then need to get the fastest AGP video card I can find at a decent price.

    signed! Completely agree!
  13. I can't even connect to a server, all but 2 say busy, 1 says full & the one that says available it won't connect to it.
  14. EA help chat is a joke

So basically the help chat is pointless, thanks for letting me know guys! I didn't wait the extra hour to hopefully get on. I have liked all the Sim Cities before this, but this one has seriously let me down. It is fun when I was able to get on, but if we can't even get after we have spent almost $90 on the game, then they should be offering every user at least a 25% refund. When will the companies learn that making a game online only is never the answer. And in this day and age they should have had enough servers, etc. to handle the loads.
  15. Been waiting for almost 2 hours on the EA help chat thing, was down to your approx wait time is 10-15 minutes and then it went up to 60 minutes again. What a joke. All I'm trying to do is get a partial refund since I have been able to play a total of about only 2 hours max in the last 48 hours, which to me is unacceptable for a new game. It was fun when I could actually play it but I think they should be issuing a patch so you don't have to have an interent connection to play the game.
