@Tarkus @xxdita I finally tried NAM 37 today, with the following setup: macOS Catalina A fresh 64-bit Aspyr install of SimCity 4 (v1.2.1) Left all the NAM installer options at default (full install) Empty plugins folder and default region Then I restored all my existing non-NAM plugins and opened an existing region with lots of NAM 36 content The installation went smoothly. My only nitpick is that I didn't notice immediately that the installation had finished: the log window is pretty verbose and it didn't automatically scroll to the bottom (which may have been my fault, I think I scrolled around at one point during the install which may have disabled any auto-scrolling?). Anyway, some sort of more prominent "installation complete!" indication could be a nice UX affordance, but overall I had no problems. Gameplay was smooth also, both for the fresh install in an empty vanilla region and when loading an existing city with lots of content and plugins. No CTD or other problems. I'm looking forward to digging in to the new features! The new street textures look nice. Nice work NAM team!

No, I open the reader itself and then use its menu to open a file. Not sure what might be going on. Do you have the WineBottler app itself installed on your Mac? Perhaps there are other resources (dynamic libraries, etc.) that the program needs in order to work correctly. I don’t have access to any other non-Catalina Mac to test running it on another machine myself, so unfortunately I think it will be difficult to figure this out. Sharing the file I made was a bit of a shot in the dark.

Nice, that fixes everything! No CTD, capacity seems fine, train traffic can flow through the station, no abandonment.

Yes, I get a CTD. Looks like it's caused by the Mac transit capacity bug; fixing the capacity bug prevents the crash for me. I'm attaching a copy of the SC4Lot file with the capacity bug fixed. However, after applying the fix, the station abandons and doesn't allow rail traffic to flow through. I'm not sure how exactly to fix that; nothing else stands out to me looking at the file (with my limited experience). SM2 Locomotives Refueling Station - Mac capacity fix.zip

The town of Ranney Center, before and after a highway construction project. South of Ranney Center is the growing city of Port Blake, which just reached 100,000 residents, and just north is East Kiwassa, a large commuter town. So there is a lot of through traffic here — passenger and freight rail, regional roads, and now the highway. The old rail depot which primarily served the local farm/industrial population was replaced with a passenger stop and a smaller freight bypass, and an overpass was built over the railroad near the station for smoother traffic flow. The highway swings east of the village and a new trumpet interchange was built to serve the local population. The screen shots are aligned so you can use the arrow keys for a direct comparison. Also, when stitching together screen shots in a graphics program, I temporarily set the top layer to use the "difference" blending mode. It makes it much easier to align overlapping images — just nudge one of the layers until all the pixels turn black, and then switch from "difference" back to normal blending mode. Anyway, I noticed that it also produces an interesting visualization of a city's change over time, if you overlay two images of the same area taken at different times. The third image in this post shows the result of the difference blending mode between the first two screen shots: the highway, train station, new housing, and couple of new commercial lots are clearly visible (in addition to some train car automata). Before: After: Difference: That is looking really nice and clean! The screen shots above show some diagonal roads + farm fields with some help from the SFBT diagonal filler lots. It would be great to have some more options available.

A "one-red-light" rural village at the end of a commuter rail line. Across the river from a larger town (not pictured), and a little further from the large city the rail connects to. You can see some typical layers of 20th century american development: a main street with the oldest houses and shops parallel to a rail line, housing subdivisions taking over some farmland, and a rural school on the edge of town. Not much industry here: all the residents commute, other than the farmers, teachers, and shop keepers.

Who's Using the 64 Bit Version? - A Place to Get Help
mmprog replied to c4bl3fl4m3's topic in SC4 Mac Users
Happy to help out here when I can! I'm using the 64-bit App Store version on Catalina. Hardware: 15" 2012 MacBook Pro, 16 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 650 1GB. I'm attempting to migrate to using this for all regular gameplay. Got all the CTD when loading a city fixed in the 64-bit version, and general gameplay seems ok so far, but I haven't played a large city tile for more than a few minutes. For a few weeks at least, I'll also have a 32-bit App Store version on Mojave available for testing/backup purposes. Hardware: 15" 2015 MacBook Pro, 16 GB RAM and AMD Radeon R9 2GB. Both have NAM 36 and a bunch of other content installed. I just ordered a maxed-out 2019 16" MBP which should arrive later this month -
I'm not certain, but I wonder if it's infeasible to install directly to the Library/Containers location due to the increasing filesystem access limitations in macOS…at least not without showing additional security warnings or permission prompts to the user. If that is the reason, then I'm in support of the privacy/security benefit of keeping the NAM installer less privileged. I see that also, with NAM 36 + a gigabyte of other plugins, though for me it's maybe 20–30 sec on first load on my 2012 MacBook Pro with Catalina, and a shorter delay on my 2015 model with Mojave. Have you tried dat-packing your plugins folder? That helps a bit in my experience, and makes a really noticeable improvement for certain gameplay interactions such as going into and out of the subway view.

How did the installation process go for you? @xxdita in another thread asked for my feedback on the install process/stability, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet; I'm still using a copy of NAM 36.

Not yet, but I saw it was out and am very interested!

Revisiting SC4 on my Catalina Mac with my latest plugins/regions. I've tracked down one last plugin that was triggering a CTD: the Ordinance Overhaul Mod. It only CTD if you load a city with the Free Clinics, Pro-Reading, or Smoke Detectors ordinances enabled. It will also CTD if you enable these ordinances and then run the game for at least a month. Anyway, the issue was some more Float32 properties with rep=1 (Health Quotient Decay Effect, School EQ Decay Effect, and Health Quotient Boost Effect). Everything runs fine with these fixed. Attaching the fixed mod here. Also, @c4bl3fl4m3 and others have expressed interest in the "Wine-bottled" version of iLives Reader that I've been using on macOS. It doesn't seem to work on Catalina, I'm guessing it would need to be re-packaged, but I haven't set aside time to attempt this yet (if I do make progress with that, I'll start a new forum thread). Anyway, you can download the app from my personal site (it's 53 MB so I don't want to attach directly to this post); it should hopefully work for others who have access to a pre-Catalina version of macOS. The first time you run the app, you will need to right-click and select Open instead of just double-clicking, and accept the prompt warning you about running an app from an unknown developer. Zone size limitations - Lots touching streets
mmprog replied to ROB EIS's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I did this unintentionally the other day and was quite confused that a seemingly blank area of terrain showed green in the zones data view and showed a price when hovering with the de-zone tool. Nice to know how to replicate this, and some of its potential uses. Often I'll have just one or two tiles of a transport network with no dirt/sidewalks where it traverses a small unzoned area, or sometimes even just one corner of a curve in a road. The untidy appearance really bothers me, and this would be a great way to fix it! -

This simply eliminates all ambient sound effects from motorcycle automata. I've found that certain neighborhoods get stuck with endless motorcycle traffic, and I think the volume level is out of balance with other traffic sounds and thus a little distracting. Not everyone may agree though! No dependencies. It should be compatible with any other mod, except for mods that specifically affect motorcycle automata. Installation: unzip and place the z_motorcycle.dat file into your Plugins folder. To uninstall, simply delete that file. Inspired by the Helicopter Sound Silencer mod. Enjoy! -
Demolished a bridge while some cars were crossing it, and got an alarming/amusing animation in the style of a Road Runner cartoon. Video: Video caption: bulldozing a road bridge. Several automobile automata are crossing the bridge. After the bridge is bulldozed, the cars hover in mid-air for a second and then all drop straight down into the water.
