  1. Yo, guys -- I followed some links for steam locomotives and I found some really GREAT trains -- UNFORTUNATELY -- they are Mods. They are designed to replace the Maxis train system and do not function well alongside the VDK trains I already run. Since I didn't want to mess up the train system entirely, I though I could try using them as "props" in various locations on the map. They are beautiful little trains. The files have, most likely, been "dat." packed -- and I am (comparatively) a novice at this stuff. IS THERE ANY WAY TO OPEN THOSE FILES AND EXTRACT THE PROPS?
  2. I'm browsing the Steam workshop for more mods and assets and I would like to comment on a few submissions. Except... I don't know how. See the attached screenshot. Even though I'm logged in, there's no "Reply" button below the comments. How do I reply?
  3. I have experienced this problem 6 or 7 times since I have the game and it is just happening for the third time in a row: when I launch Steam, it seems like my whole Workshop subscriptions gets downloaded (instead of the occasional new subscriptions/updates). 10-15 extra minutes of loading time every time I want to play isn't much fun and I have no idea what causes this. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
  4. Hello everyone, I want to get SimCity 2000, 3000, and 4 legitimately. But, I don't have money. So, I want to ask. Is there SimCity 2000, 3000, and 4 giveaway on GoG, Steam, etc? Thank you.
  5. Custom regions on Steam SC4?

Hi all, I've been trying to build a custom region for a few days now but nothing seems to run properly. Specifically, I want to have lots of 4x4km maps and have seen a lot of tutorials on how to accomplish this. So far, I've been doing the following: 1. Creating a new region in SimCity to harvest documents from (ie: "Template Region"), then quitting the game 2. Going into SimCity 4 in my "Documents" folder, then into the Regions sub-folder, and creating a new folder (ie: "Test Region") 3. Copy-pasting a region.ini from Template Region's folder into the new Test Region's folder, turning region.ini into a .txt, setting the value to "1" for ocean and entering "Test Region" as the name, then re-saving it as region.ini 4. Copy-pasting the BMP from the Template Region's folder, editing all the colours in a graphics editor (Paintbrush for Mac) as follows: 255, 0, 0, for red, blue, and green respectively, blue = 4x4, green = 2x2, red = 1x1. 5. Starting up SimCity 4 Then it crashes. Can anyone think of what I'm doing wrong?? I have to delete the Test Region before I can get the program to run again, though I oddly got one test region working, albeit it was missing all the green (2x2) maps! Help greatly, greatly appreciated!
  6. After playing on windows for many years, I have found myself in a situation where I now only have access to a mac computer. I have a copy of the aspyr mac port on disc but sadly it proves impossible to install on El Capitan (the Universal Binary Patch installer is incompatible with El Capitan). This brings me to the crossroads where I must choose between the steam version and app store version to get a copy for my mac. The app store edition sits at an enticing $9.99 whereas the steam edition costs $19.99, $10 more. From what I have gathered in this forum, the steam version is generally preferred because of "problems" with the app store version – namely some need to move around directories for proper implementation of plugins and the terrible concept of "sandboxing" which I don't entirely understand. My question: is it really worth the extra $$ to purchase the steam version? I intend to play relatively frequently so if the app store version significantly compromises the playability of the game, then I would be willing to pay.
  7. Hi there, Long time player here. I juste installed the steam version and strated playing with mods. I found some of them anoying and wanted to reboot the game files, so I erased the game from steam and reinstalled it, but all the add-on were reinstalled with it... Is there an option I forgot to remove so it doesn't keep every files, but just the core ones? Is there a software to manage all the custom content? Is there a way to choose in wich category/order the objects appears in the menu? Thank you! Ginger
  8. Hello everyone! After many years I decided to reboot SC4 again. Unable to get my disks to work properly I got the steam version. After installing the NAM, and testing it, I wanted to add some prop-packs and other custom content. The problem I have now is that they will install properly, but not show up in the game. I cant remember having this problem using the original disks years back. Does any know how I can fix this? Or maybe where to manually move the files? Sorry if this question has been asked, I did a few searches and couldn't find anything useful. Edit: To add some detail. I got the stuff installed here: C:\Users\D\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins. The NAM works fine in there.

  10. Den Otterdam

Hello Citybuilders After a lot of years building a city in SimCity 4 (Burgerwaard) I have made the transfer to Cities Skylines. This game is very nice with very nice graphics, and with the community building loads of mods there is nothing standing in your way to build a dream city.. So you guess it right, thats is exactly what i have been started. When i am building live you can watch my stream at Twitch if you like. It is a very basic stream no fancy stuff, just building in cities skylines with background music. I do not speak or chat in my stream beacuse that would take to much time off the building time Click here for my Twitch Channel My Cities Skylines City A long long time ago there was a river where Otters used to live. Some people decide to live next tot that river and build a small dam and a few homes. Den Otterdam was born. The citizens long long time ago, decided to honor the litte Otter animals in there City Shield. Welcome to the city of Soon i am going to start with this city journal, mind that i do this for a hobby and that it is a ton of work to build a custom city in Cities Skylines with a lot of handplacing props and stuff.. Everything in the city is Dutch named but i will provide English translation. Also i need to make a lot screenshots, adjust them and then place them on the journal so stay tuned.. In the mean time you get a few nice teasers of Den Otterdam in progress (please keep in mind that it is a city in development)
  11. Hi Simtropians. Whenever I start SimCity4: Deluxe via steam, it always starts my region in Timbuktu and I always have to set settings to my preference. Note: I'm using UserDir for my plugins folder on the same disk, another location. I cannot remeber if I had the same issue on Origin. If anyone had a similar problem, hope you can help me remedy this. Thanks in advance!
  12. Hi there, Loooong time lurker (going back to when CXL was the hot new thing on the block), first time poster here. Recently I've gotten back into SC4...again...but haven't been able to play it the way I'd like to due to not being able to use my physical CD copy on my beefy Linux desktop. It's not fun trying to zone on a touchpad, especially when the laptop is running 8.1. (Blech. Otherwise I'm as emancipated as A Nonny Moose in that regard - speaking of which, I do hope he is alright...) Today I got an email from Steam announcing that SC4 had gone on one of its seasonal sales, and that got my interest going again in getting it working on my lovely Kubuntu setup. I apologize in advance, as I'm sure this subject has been covered time and time again, but I haven't for the life of me been able to find enough reasonably current information to tell me how well it would work, and how, exactly, to make it work. Wine's app database was of little help, since the last result gave it a Platinum rating...without elaborating on any special steps that might be needed. And that's not even getting into all the sorcery needed to make it work on modern Windows... So, the TL;DR gist is: what's the best way to get a clean, digital copy of SC4 working on Linux with minimal hair-pulling or frustration perusing hundreds of forum topics for just the right solution? In case they're needed, here are a few basic specs: Kubuntu 14.04 LTS, kernel 4.4 Core i7 CPU, NVIDIA GTX 745 GPU current Wine 1.9 (though I can use 1.8 if it makes a difference) 24 GB RAM Thank you very much in advance! And apologies again for asking a question that I'm sure has been asked many times before...
  13. I need help, and I'm not liking it. So for my sc4, I inserted the startup options line (quick intro, windowed mode, etc), and after the quick intro, the game just crashes after 5 seconds -> I have messed around with my plugins and its not the cause -> I even REINSTALLED the game but it still happens -> Not my regions, not the cause Help me please and thank you!
  14. Ok so, I have a big problem installing the CAM mod for Simcity 4, bought from STEAM. No matter what I do, it doesn't work. I've searched numerous discussions and videos and asked for help from several people but nothing comes up. Anyone know how to properly, and easily, install the colossus addon mod to simcity 4 steam version? You would be a lifesaver, thanks.
  15. So I just bought a copy of simcity 4 from steam sale but I cant launch the game. I have windows 10 so not sure if thats causing the problem or what. What can I do to fix the problem?
  16. I use Windows 7 (refuse to update to 10) and after a software update Windows insisted on running, I found some gaps in my desktop. I determined from partial screengrabs of my desktop, I noticed that the shortcut for the SC4 Plug-in Manager had vanished, and I believe that another button to the Lot Editor is gone as well. Nothing else seemed out of place, and the only thing that I can think of is since the Lot Editor manual is still part of the Steam "commonapps" area (and I did reinstall Steam recently, as well as update it when I wanted), those things were wiped (and not just the shortcuts). Has anyone else had a similar problem?
  17. Can't go fullscreen.

Simcity 4 does not go into fullscreen with the windows 10 version of steam. I've attempted to remove -windowed, i've tried -fullscreen, -full, even just removing it, but it doesnt work? any suggestions?
  18. CitiesCorp Concept

A new city builder has been released on Steam. http://store.steampowered.com/app/446010
  19. Hi everyone, I'm completely new in the mod stuff at cities skylines. I see that the game is cheaper at other stores in comparison With the price on steam. But... if i buy it in a local or online store, can i then still get these mods without have the need download it illegal of something and get a virus on my pc?(can you still get them by steam?) Because these buildings and stuff are insanely cool. I never played it but i will buy it if i know where its the smartest move, i hope someone can help me make the best desission I appreciate your time,
  20. How to change language

I bought simcity 4 deluxe on steam but I can't change the language because I didn't find language folders inside. Changing language through steam setting is not rational too since it can't download language pack with some connection problems always. Is there any tutorials for simcity 4 deluxe on steam about changing language? Thanks!
  21. Steam borderless command

Hello! Today I decided to update my computer to Windows 10, which meant buying a digital copy of SimCity 4 on Steam. It works fine so long as I play it in windowed mode, but the OS UI gets in the way of the game's, so I'd like to know if there's a launcher or known launch command to make it borderless. edit: to spare some time, I'd like to tell you that neither -borderless nor -noborder worked.
  22. Flying Scotsman

    Version 1.0.0

The Flying Scotsman was originally built in Doncaster for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER), emerging from the works on 24 February 1923 and initially numbered 1472. It was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley as part of the A1 class – the most powerful locomotives used by the railway. By 1924, when it was selected to appear at the British Empire Exhibition in London, the loco had been renumbered 4472 – and been given the name ‘Flying Scotsman’ after the London to Edinburgh rail service which started daily at 10am in 1862. In 1928, it was given a new type of tender with a corridor, which meant that a new crew could take over without stopping the train. This allowed it to haul the first ever non-stop London to Edinburgh service reducing the journey time to eight hours. In 1934, Scotsman was clocked at 100mph on a special test run – officially the first locomotive in the UK to have reached that speed. LNER passenger locomotives had always been painted Apple Green. During the Second World War, Flying Scotsman was repainted in wartime black, in common with all railway stock. After the war, it became green again, and was rebuilt as an A3 Pacific. In 1948, rail travel in Britain was nationalised with the formation of British Railways. Scotsman, now numbered 60103, was painted blue for a time, then BR Green. It remained in this colour until 1963, when it was retired by British Rail. By this time, it had undergone several alterations to improve its performance – but it had been pulling trains for 40 years (and 2 million km), and steam engines were becoming old-fashioned. The engine travelled to America from 1969 to 1973, and Australia in 1988/89 where it set the steam train nonstop-endurance record of 422 miles. Recently completely restored (with a new authentic A3 boiler), Flying Scotsman will be making special tours throughout the UK in 2016. This implementation is the A3 locomotive in 4472 LNER Apple Green livery, without the smoke deflectors. The Carriages are the 1950s Custard and Red British Rail Mk1 carriages (more or less). It should be noted that English railway stock have the smallest dimensions of all railways - these are scale true at 4m tall and only 2.75m wide. The carriages are 19m long, and fit very well into RRW curves. There is a complete set of props to complement the automata and these can be used on their own. Prop families are: F5E800C0 Engines, F5E800C1 Carriages This mod completely replaces the Maxis passenger engine and carriage and if mixed with any other extra Passenger engines or carriages will produce mixed consists (which sort of destroys the effect). to revert Remove from Plugins: Mar 2016
  23. SimMars won't launch

I am having a problem with loading simmars on windows 7 (and yes I uninstalled the update that blocks sc4). Simmars won't start, you can see it in the taskbar for a few seconds then it just closes itself. if it makes a difference i am using the steam version of simcity 4.
  24. TWO plug-in folders?

Apologies if this has been asked before (I'm sure it has) but I finally am back on a computer that seems to play SC4 well, and like always, cool stuff has been made in the absence I'm gone (a DLL that fixes aggravating bugs? Get out! ) So, I got SimCity 4 on Steam partially because it was on sale at the time, partially because I didn't want to muck around with Win7 flags that clash with the DRM, and partially because I didn't want to muck around with CD images and patches. So, the situation is, there's now TWO SimCity 4 folders, both with Plugin and Region files. One's in the Steam folder under the commonapps folder (or "common", can't remember which), and one's in the My Documents folder. The one in My Documents appeared after I started the game for the first time, but I had off-loaded many of my plug-ins to the Steam one. Now, I'm even more confused because NAM 34 (nice that I finally have more than 2GB of RAM, so no fear) wants to put it on the My Documents folder, probably because of the non-Steam files floating around. I'm sure it matters where I put plug-ins, but should I tell the NAM to install there? And if I already did, could I just move it to the "proper" place?
  25. Hi i was wondering with CSL being on steam could i possibly play this on a steam console, want to play it but my laptop only has 4GB ram and ATI Radeon so it wouldn't run good.
