I have this problem with the Steam Version of SC3K Unlimited. When the camera is coming close to the border of the map, the game slows down to a single digit framerate. Curiously it only happens when the void is on top of the camera and not of the bottom (see attached image for illustration). - The bigger the resolution of the game, the bigger the lag. I play in FullHD and the lag is the biggest. - The lag doesn't happen when buildings are turned off or underground view is on. - The lag is reduced as you zoom out. Has anyone experienced this problem and knows a solution?

Need help returning to game after long absence
ldvger posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I am interested in returning to building custom regions after being away from the game for a long time, and while I have extensive notes on region creation from long ago, I am unable to locate any game files on my computer. I purchased and downloaded the game from Steam today, but apparently I can only enter the game if online. I am running the game on my desktop PC, running Windows 10. I have old copies of regions I created many years ago, likely while running the game under Windows 98. Is it possible for me to load those old regions into the game? And, if so, how? When I use the load region button, my only choices are the default Maxis regions and I seem to have no way to change either the drive(s) or folders where my other old regions are stored. I can accept and understand if my old regions cannot be played anymore, and am not intimidated about relearning custom region creation, but without being able to access the Regions folder in the game files, I'm at a loss as to how to even begin. Please help! I also recently downloaded and began to play Cities:Skylines and just am not enjoying the UI as much as I remember using the SC4 UI, which is why I am trying to return to SC4. I used to be a very active member of this community, years ago, and created a couple of City Journals, even had one featured as CJOTM once, I believe it was called "Recreating San Fransisco". I'm also an architect IRL, and make extensive use of AutoCAD when creating my cities and regions. I remember learning how to create custom regions was a steep learning curve, and very time consuming, but also very rewarding once the region was created and finally loaded into the game. I'd really like to relearn how to do that again, also how to use some of the GREAT 3rd party created content, especially NAM and many of Pegasus's creations, but I have no idea, currently, where to save them on my computer in such a way that my game can access them. Any/all help will be appreciated! -
Help with SC4 on Steam! (Issues with Regions) [Solved]
Crossroads Inc. posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
AHOY EVERYONE! Long time member, maybe, first time poster? So... returning to the game after begin away for more thn 10 years... it has been quite a trip for me, but some games, You'll always find your way back to.. SO I recently got the Steam version of SC4, downloaded it, opened it up and.. naturally... my first instinct was to toss in my old cities that I used to play back in the day.. SO I copied the folders over, loaded the game and... Hmm... They didnt show up.. Maybe they are too old? SO I loaded the game, decided to make some NEW regions, created "TEST REGION-1" quite the game, opened the folder and.... nothing... hmm.. Do new regions not show up? SO I decided to mess with one of the existing folders... I basically deleted everything from the "Berlin" folder, copied over one of my old cities and... nothing... And not just "Nothing" but, the Berlin city was still there! Like, no come on, I figured I'd MAYBE get an error message "City not Found" or something... So.. I started thinking.. MAYBE the folders im SEEING on my laptop are not "really" the folders that the game shows IN the game? If this is so, where are there? ANY Help would be appreciated! -
Hi all -- I've seen some HD content listed here. I tried to install some BATs but they crashed my game, and in reading the comments am guessing that the resolution/picture quality was not high enough to support the files. The comments suggested DirectX, which I understand is incompatible with Mac. So, my question here is threefold: 1. Is there a way to improve the resolution/rendering from the default on Steam? I tried updating the resolution once but had that issue of not being able to click in the bottom of the screen that I know a lot of us have encountered. Was I using the wrong dimensions or am I just wrong to mess with the dimension in the first place? 2. If resolution can't be imrpoved to HD in Steam, is there a Mac-compatible add-on like DirectX that I can use instead? 3. Or, if neither of those are options, should I avoid installing any HD plug-ins, and just accept that I am playing with a SD version of the game? Thanks in advance? If not clear from my post, I am not very tech-savvy. Most of what I know about computers I have learned troubleshooting this game and various mods. So apologies if using incorrect terminology here.

Thank you for all your help. The startup options are as follows. -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -w -intro:off -CPUCount:1 I have the following mods and BUGFIX in the Plugin folder under documents. Is there anything preventing them from starting? Or is it a dependency? Sorry for being a newbie, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know.

Motor Lighter “Ajax” Lighters were quite commonly found in every harbor the world over. They were extremely useful vessels and came in many different forms. The vast majority of lighters were simply towed barges, while others – with a primitive sail rig – were capable of proceeding under their own power. The least numerous of all lighter types was the “Motor Lighter”. Motor Lighters were usually slightly longer and a bit wider than the other two types, and they were equipped with their own steam engine, allowing them to proceed without regard to the wind and tide. Some Motor Lighters were special, one-off designs, specifically built for the purpose of transporting large and bulky cargo -- assembled engines – propeller shafts – partially assembled sections of gun turret machinery – sections of steam turbines, etc, etc. One such Motor Lighter was operated by the Dockyards in Wilhelmshaven, but there was only one photo available, and it was a very bad image. What it did show, was an extremely dull and boring, flat-decked, steam-powered lighter. The model of the “Motor Lighter Ajax” is an amalgamation of that lighter and a large, steam-powered, floating crane operated by the Philadelphia Navy Yard from 1918 to 1956. “Ajax” has an elevated bridge up forward for navigation purposes, with a large, flat cargo deck amidships, and a small superstructure in the stern. “AP’s” beautiful little model comes with an open cargo deck, but as the attached pictures show, almost anything can be placed in the cargo space. All 3-D models have varying degrees of “LOD” interference, but careful placement of the prop cargo can give you a unique, functional, Motor Lighter. How to use This pack contains .SC4model-files and props as .SC4desc-files. So, by installing this pack nothing will directly appear in your game. You can use the props on your own lots or convert the SC4models into buildings, as you please. Since most props are to be used on water lots and props naturally align with the surface level, they will sink to the sea floor, if you do not stick to the guidelines on how to use props on water lots. Finally you will need to follow the instructions on how to make a lot transparent. You will find the props in any Lot-Editor under the prefix A_1P_h_ As per request from the community, I have also included a version of the ship without historic flags and crew. Please visit @Dreadnought's CJ to get detailed descriptions and the historical backgrounds to these prop packs. You will see a wonderful display of the results of our long collaboration there and can get a preview of what might be hidden in the coming prop packs or simply get some inspiration for your own harbour! -
I have a Samsung Galaxy, Windows 11 upgraded computer and cannot get either a CD copy or a Steam copy of SimCity 4 Deluxe to run on my computer. I have attempted various fixes with both (I did uninstall the CD copy b4 attempting to run the Steam version), including compatibility mode, run as administrator, run in windows mode, etc. I finally deleted the Steam version where I made all of the changes, reinstalled a 'clean' version and need some help to get this working. Can anyone out there give me any suggestions that have a high success rate working? I'm so frustrated, I'm almost ready to give up, but I used to love this game and would like to play it again. I'd really appreciate any and all assistance! Thank you, in advance.

Propulsion Pack The Age of the Dreadnought and the two decades before it, encompassed a period of scientific and industrial growth unrivalled by anything that came before it – quite possibly including the original Industrial Revolution of the mid-19th Century. The political/military rivalries of the era drove scientific advances every bit as much, if not more, than the needs of commerce and civilization. For warships it meant they had to be bigger, faster, tougher, and more offensively oriented. The need for tactical supremacy at sea naturally led to steel hulls, greater speed, heavy armour protection (advanced metallurgy), modern long-range naval artillery, rudimentary ship-to-ship communication (wireless), advanced optical instruments – and especially high-speed steam turbines. In an effort to take in-game realism to a new level, “AP” has provided us with all the basic components of a warship’s drive-train – boilers for steam – steam turbines – a reduction gearing system – propeller shafts – and propellers. This will allow you to assemble shipyards with factories and machine shops to build and produce these components – transport the components – and stockpile them alongside the builder’s slipway and dry docks. For those of you looking for a new industry for your cities – why not maritime machine shops or naval armaments? How to use This pack contains .SC4model-files and props as .SC4desc-files. So, by installing this pack nothing will directly appear in your game. You can use the props on your own lots or convert the SC4models into buildings, as you please. Can I transfer my save files from the Windows CD version to the mac steam version?

I have SC4 Deluxe on my Windows XP PC, but I bought the Mac version via Steam so I could play it on my Mac. Is there a way I can transfer my save file from the XP install to my new Steam install? -
is this possible that ea will release SimCity 2000 SE to steam?

Over the weekend I moved to a M1 Mac Mini system running Sonoma, in the process I needed to re-install Steam and SimCity 4 and came across the following on Aspyr's support: https://support.aspyr.com/hc/en-us/articles/12168615035405-How-to-access-the-Apple-Silicon-update-on-Mac-Steam-SimCity-4-Deluxe-Edition Basically it's setup like an opt-in Beta, but a cursory use seems like there is a decent performance update and some graphical issues seem to have been fixed. Not sure why Steam has setup things this way, because as far I know the same update has been offered to App Store users. Anyhow, maybe it helps someone.

I installed SimCity 4 on an Alienware X16 from Steam. It keeps crashing to desktop after the logos and animation. I tried fixing it with ChatGPT but I'm pretty sure all of the settings are now all over the place. The last option it gave me was to get in touch with you guys to see if there are any patches or such options. Any help?

SimCity 4 Deluxe Now on Sale at Steam 75% off until March 21 2024

Sale ends March 21, 2024 @ 10 am Pacific SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition $6.74 CAD (75% off) SimCity 3000 $2.59 CAD Just fyi for anyone who wants to try the Steam version of SC4 at a good price. The SimCity directory still appears in your Documents folder, with the Plugins and Regions folders there, etc. The NAM 48 installed with no issues, and the command line options can be added within Steam. I patched mine anyway, but I think it already comes as Version 1.1.641.0 (I'm using Windows 11). -
As you know, as of today SimCity 3000 Unlimited is available on Steam. Although these are positive news, in the sense that one of the most beloved editions of SimCity is finally available on Steam, with a current cost of only $2 Dollars. However, there are some small details we need to disclose for everyone’s awareness. First, the Steam version is basically the GOG version of SimCity 3000 Unlimited. In fact, among the various files, there are also DLL files related to GOG. This is a dirty thing to do, because this version of the game literally copied all the GOG files, while removing only the GOG application components, leaving their DLL files and inserting the Steam DRM. In addition, @kingofsimcity confirmed that the EXE version of SC3K Unlimited on Steam is the same as the GOG version, and confirmed that copying the GOG files into the SC3K Unlimited folder on Steam by replacing the files does not cause any problems to the game This means the Steam version does not contain any improvements compared to its GOG counterpart. You can abandon the hopes of SimCity 3000 Unlimited experiencing the same fate as the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, in which EA had released the source code. As a result, we need to inform you about the procedures you need to do to support SimCity 3000 on modern systems and how to enable some hidden features 4GB PATCH Currently SimCity 3000 is a 32Bit application and therefore means that it will have a maximum RAM usage of 2GB. Therefore, we recommend that you run the 4GB Patch allows you to run SimCity 3000 Unlimited at its maximum performance and capabilities The 4GB Patch can be found here https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371 SCREEN RESOLUTION Although SimCity 3000 Unlimited is reported to use DirectX 9 in reality SimCity 3000 will have as its maximum resolution of 1280x1024 Therefore that in order to enable the maximum resolution of your screen you have two ways. One would be a HEX edit by following this guide A quick alternative method is to use SimCity 3000 Resolution Patcher https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-SimCity-3000-Resolution-Patcher Or use this Patched exe https://community.simtropolis.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=100741 WARNING: The game will crash if the resolution is not divisible by 8. These common resolutions are not usable: 1680x1050, 1600x900, 1440x900, 1366x768 We also recommend that you apply DgVoodoo 2 which allows you to improve the compatibility of the game with modern GPUs https://github.com/dege-diosg/dgVoodoo2/releases SECRET MUSIC As you know SimCity 3000 Unlimited contains some disabled music. In fact SIM Broadway, Concrete Jungle, City of Dreams and SimCity 2000 Theme are disabled but to enable them there are two methods. The first is to follow the following guide Or you can download this patch https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2415-SimCity-3000-unlimited-re-composed We hope this report of useful information has served you well on how to configure SimCity 3000 Unlimited on your computers, and we look forward to seeing your creations here. As a reminder, any discussion of SimCity 3000 Unlimited can be done here https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/forum/314-SimCity-3000 While if you want to downloads mods you can do it here https://community.simtropolis.com/files/category/41-SimCity-3000-files/ To conclude here is link of the Steam version of SimCity 3000 Unlimited https://store.steampowered.com/app/2741560/Sim_City_3000_Unlimited/ And GOG Version https://www.gog.com/en/game/simcity_3000

SimCity 3000 Unlimited has been released on steam for the first time. It's also back on the EA store. SC3K was my introduction to the series, and having it on more platforms other the GOG is wonderful. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2741560/Sim_City_3000_Unlimited/

Hello, I've been trying to run the game on Linux for some time now but have been encountering issues. First up, my system specs: Kubuntu 22.04.4 Ryzen 5 5600H RTX3060 Mobile 32Gb of memory The issues: I'm unable to launch the game through steam using proton. I've tried every proton version available through steam's menu. The games window pops up and then immediately crash. I've tried to use parameters suggested by other people on Protondb, mainly PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1and PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 but to no avail. I've got the game on Gog as well so I've used the non-DRM installer to test if I could have it to work, but neither Play on Linux or Lutris were able to work. I've followed Handyman's guide and I was able to create a wine profile and it works, the game launches which is good. But the performance is abysmal to the point that even an empty city is unusable. I've applied the 4GB patch following memo's how to here and it patches fine. I've also used a script similar to Moose's script here to get the game in windowed mode and it works. Alternatively I've used a W10 VM using VMWare and again, it works but the performance isn't good. (it's a VM so I wasn't expecting anything anyway, this was mostly to test) Ideally, I'd love to keep using it through steam (I like having my profile keep track of things) but I can settle for the DRM free variant if it's the only one that works. If anyone has some info, insight etc, I'd love to hear it.

Unable To Launch From Steam (Windows 10)
JeffSalisbury posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I searched the forum for threads about people being unable to launch the game on a Windows 10 machine, but pretty well all of the threads were related to people trying to launch it via physical media, which is impossible (thanks, MS). I got my nephew a Dell Precision 5530 that my office sold as they were replacing the older laptops with new models. Totally wiped with a fresh Win10 Home install. Fully updated, no anti-virus or firewall software installed. He installed Steam and bought himself SC4 there. It's fully installed, but won't launch at all. It won't even pop up the launch graphic. Upon clicking Play in Steam, it'll try to launch for a couple seconds, and then will immediately stop itself and go back to as if he'd never clicked the Play button. We tried launching it directly from Win Explorer to see if it was maybe a Steam launching issue, but that didn't work either (resulted in the exact same thing where it tried to launch for a second or two, only to stop and go back to as if we'd never tried launching it at all). We also tried changing the compatibility option in the SC4.exe launch file to Win XP SP2, but that didn't change anything either. I've only ever played the game from my Win7 machine, so I'm completely unfamiliar if there is a standard process for getting it to run on Win10. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.- 4 Replies

Struggling with launch from Steam, attempted mod with NAM 47
HeyJD posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Good day to you, First, I apologize for how frustrating this is for some of you. I'm equally frustrated. Hopefully, I can explain enough to share my challenges, which inevitably might be a multi pronged issue. I installed SimCity 4 December 25, 2023 from Steam. I have logged about 9.5 hours so far with only one crash playing in the tutorials. The money making tutorial after about an hour or few worth of play crashed yesterday. I didn't think much about it. However, I've become more curious about how to build a proper city. In as much, I learned via YouTube that there is something called a NAM 48 which would solve some crashing issues as well as improve options for game play. Eventually, I found the https://www.sc4nam.com/ website. I attempted to follow this step by step. I couldn't figure out how to find the compatibility as suggested from that site in the https://www.sc4nam.com/docs/getting-started/installation/#version-compatibility. However, I guessed that being I just installed it from Steam, It would be up to date. Now, I originally have had the game installed on a spinning 4TB hard drive - a secondary drive from my system boot drive. Steam has been installed on the OS boot drive which is solid state. As such, I thought going back and deleting all the files I could find and reinstalling this game on the 4TB hard drive would be fine. I had tried installing the NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version47.bat file, which I couldn't seem to figure out the correct step to get it to execute with the SimCity 4.exe file. So I resorted to the NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version47.jar file, which did seem to work. However, still, when I click play, not much else happens. The "play" icon in step goes to "stop." After a few moments, it returned to the green "play." I've attempted to" Verify the integrity of the files." The only thing which seemed to work was moving the game/installing the game to the boot/steam drive itself. However, I am afraid if these NAM files have caused failure with the game on my 4TB drive, will it cause failure on my main boot drive preventing me from playing the drive all together. I attempted adding various boot commands in the steam general "Advanced users may choose to enter their launch options" , i.e "-CPUCount:1 -CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x720x32". I tried my native resolution at 2560x1440x32. I tried part or none of these commands. I'm stumped. I'm asking for help to find remnants of the "4GB Patch" file, which I had downloaded from https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371. Additionally, I'm looking to remove the NAM 48 files the the .jar file and the .bat file installed. Ultimately, I would love to have some fun with this game. And I'd like to enjoy it without bugs, "CTD"s and other issues. Are there any details which would assist in my recovery here? As of right now, I've deleted everything I can search "SimCity" on both hard drives. But reinstalling this onto the secondary 4TB spinning hard drive does not work any longer as it once did. The game is off of my machine as far as I can tell. -
So too often I don't notice the sales on GOG and Steam till its to late so I thought I'd set up a topic so people can post the latest sales info, currently Banished is currently 66% off on both GOG and Steam SimCity 4 Deluxe is 75% off on Steam, but currently is full price on GOG Cities Skylines V1 is 70% off on Steam, not available on GOG, worth checking this out cos all the individual add-ons are on sale as well https://store.steampowered.com/app/255710/Cities_Skylines/ Sales all end on the 29th of November 2023

Greetings to all, I purchased the game 'SimCity 4' from Steam last week and I have been playing the game on my computer well. But since last day I am encountering a problem when I tried to open Steam. I came across this error message "A connection to the VAC servers could not be made." This is the first time that I am encountering this problem. Could anyone please help me to fix it?

So, which Mac version is better? Steam or App Store?
MasterShadowLord posted a topic in SC4 Mac Users
Hi, I'm looking to get SimCity 4 on my mac, but I just wanna know which version I should get. Is the steam version better than the App Store version? For the record, I'm running a mac with Catalina. -
When I learned about the EA/Origin version problem, I uninstalled the EA version, and bought and installed the Steam version. A couple of days later, SimCity 4 reappeared as an installed game in the EA desktop app. I thought that was odd, but a couple days ago, the EA app says there is an update required for SC4. (Like, no?) I'm not going to press that button, but does anyone else have this? How can I remove SimCity4 from the EA launcher? There is the option to uninstall, but it points to the Steam folder and I don't want to uninstall the game. SC4 is working just fine (I only ever launch it from the desktop shortcut), so this is an EA app issue. But neither my EA account, the EA app or Steam have any settings anywhere that link from one to the other. It's weird.
