  1. Show us What you're Working On

In a situation like Austin... could you possibly make multiple "correct" rotations of the map, upon release? Sorry if this is a huge ask----but I imagine the street grid not lining up with real life would be a HUGE non-starter for most players trying to recreate the region. I understand your preference to line up the runways.... but many, myself included imo, would see this as an uncorrectable flaw to the map... perhaps 2 versions will appease both crowds. Your maps are very high quality---it's a shame that many folks would not use them because of an avoidable reason like incompatible rotation. For instance, beautiful maps exist of Atlantic City, NJ, which are never aligned to SC4 grid.... Rendering the map awkward, and pretty much useless. No offense, but why take time and care to create a great map that can't serve its intended purpose? For instance, I couldn't imagine the effort involved in creating a beautiful and realistic map of NYC only to align it with the runways at LaGuardia... some might delight in recreating the airport but most will just be annoyed that the map doesn't work for the entire city. Maybe a "grid-friendly" version along side "runway-friendly" version would cover all bases. Or do you think this would take too much extra time? Just throwing it out there because you have made the best maps out there recently. Your work is greatly improving the available terrains for SC4 even after all these years. Kudos! and Thank you for staying active, and making thoughtful executive decisions. -joey
  2. This is an open invitation. Let's team up!

After a long hiatus, I'm returning to BATting!

I have developed various skills casually over the last few years, resulting in an ability to model using Sketchup and render my projects using BAT. But that is where my knowledge of BATting basically ends.

I am looking to team up with members who are interested in primarily in lotting, 3d model salvage, folks who enjoy creating content generally and anyone with any creative or technical knowledge are welcome to collaborate.

    • Do you enjoy lotting projects?
    • Do you want to create new sets that improve the look and feel of the game in new ways?
    • Do you wish your favorite architectural style was more heavily represented in your game?
    • Do you want to influence new BATs?
    • Do you want to create custom diagonal and FA buildings for yourself?

If these things sound exciting to you, I hope we can touch base and begin working together!

I would love to collaborate with others, either one-on-one or in a team, whichever you all prefer on an individual basis. We'll figure things out as this either gains interest or not. But I'd love to link up with people actively creating new projects.

I believe that getting some dedicated (active) folks with different strengths together, will help us streamline our processes, and perhaps release better quality sets more quickly. For example, I enjoy the 3d process. I have a backlog of 50+ builds, sitting around 80% finished because I don't want to lot them. I'd be excited to finish them but I have NO motivation to lot them. Perhaps someone might be interested to get these builds into the game, better and more quickly than I could. Then we're able to release a nice set jointly, and everybody is proud.

Similarly, I know many folks who have a great idea and a basic 3d model that they'd like to improve upon but don't have the experience, or just can't translate what's in their head into 3d. It would be nice to have a few heads to rub together, and be able to hop on a call and figure it out. I know sometimes reading old forum posts for help can lead me down rabbit holes, whereas a friend's thorough guidance can't be beat.

This is a reciprocal relationship because we each get to do more of the parts we "like" and yield more results. I also find collaboration breeds a healthy competitive spirit, as when I'm releasing something to the crowd to be scrutinized, I take extra care to carve it into the most perfect version of itself I can make.

I'm excited to keep refining my work and I hope others would be open to sharing their ideas and methodology.

I would like to add---I was new to this recently, and I still am very new to it. We all have different strengths and capabilities at the back end of this ancient relic game. I hope anybody who wants to put an idea into the game will feel welcome to message. I love this old game and the people who are still dedicated to it. I hope we can make some really cool stuff!

I like to make growable commercial and residential lots and also civic like police fire and medical   I only use PIM and LE as PIM-X won't launch on my laptop so I wouldn't be able to make reward or plops with jobs

      kaimai

hello from six months in the future! I saw this because I've been looking thru the forum posts from creators whose buildings I enjoy in search of rare unreleased building models and etc. no idea if you're still looking, but I've recently been lotting various FA and diagonal buildings/props in PIMX, as well as relotting a lot of other stuff for a large region project I'm planning—since my return to SC4 postdates the collapse of SC4D and SimCityKurier—so if you do still have unused models you don't want to create lots for I'd be happy to. (and the presence/absence of nightlights doesn't particularly bother me lol.) I'm definitely also interested in learning how to do 3D modeling but am still at the very beginning of the learning curve for that; still figuring out basic geometry and such. Let me know if I can help with anything.

  3. NY Building 10

Nice work! I love the variety, and detailing of the brick facades included. The ornate plastering above and below the windows is a standout, as well as the inclusion of a fire escape. 9/10 points for realism! I would be forever indebted to you, if you would release a variation of this design with realistic ventilation shafts (as required by building codes), and perhaps 10% larger windows. As a local I believe these subtle details would really elevate your work and sell them as true NYC buildings. I would never need to use another building again! They'd be endlessly useful in my cities!! I don't normally nitpick like this. But these are really exciting to see! And I'd love to see you create some more iconic and realistic BATs at (or exceeding) the level of AG/the NYBT so I truly hope you take up the challenge! Excited to see your new NYC content coming. Really nice job!

Hey everyone. Is this house available somewhere? Spotted in one of Matt B's screenshots.

Fun idea! I'm going to try it both ways and see which one I like better. See you in 3 months lol. Wish me luck
  6. Lot - Resources / Help

Thanks---the simple fix was, I forgot to save after creating the prop family! I got them up and running. Sorry for the drama. Coming soon! Any ideas for more lotting configurations? I think they'll be fun on the low end of medium density. Softens the transition from city to suburb.
  7. Lot - Resources / Help

NOOB CORNER: Why is my file not working? Supposed to be 7 houses, on a 4x2 lot. Did I make the props wrong, or something? It's a custom prop family (houses) and an invisible building exemplar, like I always do. I've just been out of practice for so long. Where did I go wrong?? ZIP attached FTG North Bergen Narrow Lots.zip
  8. Long time Lotter, considering BATting

Message me. I use sketchup to get models for free, then I import them into BAT. It's easy and mostly free.
  9. Post Modding Requests Here

Yes! I think a T21 mod is what I am thinking of... I don't mind so much that cars would occasionally "drive through" the parked cars. I'm basically looking to make this in order to be useful for more realistic screenshots. so I don't mind that it's only 90% visually correct. I refuse to use transit enabled lots because of the abandonment issue though. Regarding the cars driving through cars, I seldom use this network anyway, except for inner city streets and some turn lane setups. So not a huge issue for me. I have a streetside mod for streets only. I think this could be extended to OWR-1 but I would HATE the way this looks personally because I use that network for other purposes (RHW) So what I'm proposing is an eyecandy implementation basically, only for OWR-3. So in screenshots it should look correct, like NYC. I just want to get it done quickly without messing around under the hood too much. I'm willing to do the work myself but I am extremely rusty and I haven't ever made a mod like this before. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is this the right method? And @Lucario Boricua I am excited to hear your take!
  10. Post Modding Requests Here

Streetside mod for OWR-3 Can anybody create a mod, to add parked cars to the extreme right and left lanes of OWR-3? Just a cosmetic thing with props or something. Just to be clear the cars would be parked inside the lanes, not on the sidewalk. I think this would add a lot of realism to urban builds. For instance New York City uses these lanes for parking on many streets around Manhattan. And it would give a different feel aesthetically to the roads. Is this possible?

Lotting challenge! I have found some old sc4model files on a backup SD card from my old PC. Since I can't access the SC4BAT or PIMX programs anymore, here is your challenge: create a prop family from these models and lot them on a 2x1 setup. The original houses come from Queens, NYC. Thanks to whomever accepts the challenge, and please upload the lots to the exchange!

  16. Hey everyone,

I am sorry to have stepped away so suddenly and completely back in May.

I offer sincere, extra apologies to my dedicated batch of Patreon subscribers, whom I will be contacting individually to issue refunds for the month that they were charged. If you see this post, please give me a shout because I have been struggling within Patreon to find you. (read ahead)

Around Memorial day my laptop's battery failed catastrophically, destroying my computer and hard drive. I lost most of my projects, except for some backups I have, and lots of personal saves and other data that I had stored. When that happened, I was locked out of my Google account and also lost many of my saved passwords (inc'l Simtropolis) which had a ripple effect that is still affecting my accounts. I was able to get a new computer this month but I don't have my Sketchup suite up anymore, and frankly in the summer I don't have a lot of energy to work on big SC4 projects. I'm not going away---but I don't have the means to stay active as a modder right now so I will be shutting the Patreon down and quietly lurking on the STEX instead.

I hope everyone has been well and is staying motivated. This forum is a fabulous community of talented individuals who dream to envisage the world differently, through their own lens, by their own hand. What a beautiful thing we do, capturing and reimagining our favorite pieces of our built world into a format in which we can both preserve, and nurture it back to virtual life. Our creations are often Rorschach images of our lives and experiences, as such they are deeply personal... maybe that is why we push this old game to its limits, collaborating and competing with one another to create a the best versions we can. I am so excited to see what you will create next.

Thank you for many years of immersion in this world, and many to come.

I love you, ST. All of you so much.

    Joey

Aww. Sorry to hear about that experience. That honestly is something I fear my desktop might do to me one day.

Glad to see you back, even if it is just as a lurker at the moment.

That's sad to hear, i hope you don't feel too bad about it now, it's pretty hard to loose a big quantity of your own work like this. I know from the days i was still active that running that "old" game and doing modding stuff, but on a (possibly) shaky laptop, can be quite a hustle. Take care !

    Version 1.0.0

Break the grid! Just to see how it feels! This is a Goodwill thrift store, lifted from Missouri via the 3dwarehouse. Goodwill offers a wide arrangement of donated clothing, furtniture, household electronics and odds and end for sale. ANOUNCEMENT SECTION Speaking of odds and ends for sale... I am thrilled to announce the new EFFTHEGRID X EXTRAS Patreon page! Don't worry, I am NOT sacrificing quality or posting less on the STEX. On the Patreon page you will find all kinds of models that I have exported into SimCity 4 for my own game, but lack the polish or glamor needed for the STEX. So, if it's good enough for me to use, it's good enough for you! Since the site is new and I only have a handful of downloads available, I am running a half-off promotion on membership starting at USD $2.50/mo. I hope none of you think I am selling out! This seems like a viable way for me to afford my 3d software license and also offer the community something extra. Thanks for listening and resuming normal programming! This download includes: 2x 4x4 landmark lots with overhanging FA3 props, both rotations (L+R) No dependencies required. NAM required for fractionally angled network support.
