Modern Villa 2, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Made after a request in the 'Bat Request Thread', this is a purely fictional design for the third in a series of Modern Villas. Apart from the few Hollywood-hills style R$$$ homes that come with the base game, and a smattering of custom content (if you want top quality, search on girafe's user name), it is an area that has largely been ignored. Typically the modern villa is something of a compound: numerous projections create enclosed, intimate spaces. High masonry walls and hedges protect pools and indoor/outdoor areas from prying eyes. The materials palette is usually understated - monochromatic white/dark grey plaster, zinc, wood, marble and stone. This particular design is a modernist interpretation. Two separate pavilions (one a bedroom wing and the other the main living wing) are interlinked with a glass walkway that frames views of the pool. Garaging is underground. Hedges of tall cypress trees cocoon the lots from neighbour boundaries and planting in rows create uniformity of streetscape. These sorts of houses are something of an international style: they can be found in coastal/city/mountain locations across the globe. They grow on the modern Houston and Euro tilesets only and are modded so as not to become too weedy. Like all of my work, these are suited to both CAM and non CAM cities alike. DIY Skyscraper International Style, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- This download contains 3 modular BAT pieces to allow the end user to build their own functional skyscraper in the lot editor. While there are plenty of modular sets for all sorts of things, to my knowledge, a modular, functional skyscraper is a unique offering in the SC4 world. The model is fictional, but representative of the ubiquitous International Style of skyscraper that dominated the world from the 1950's onwards. These sorts of buildings generally did not exceed 50 -60 floors, but some, such as Chicago's AON Center and the former WTC in New York reached between 80 - 110 stories. This is the first of a few such DIY Skyscrapers. This BAT can be assembled so as to make any sized building (in 5 story increments) of between 10 or 15 floors and, in theory, as many floors as you want. There are three pieces rendered out as props that you line up and combine and raise in either the PIM-x or lot editor (CTRL+up arrow key) to build your own skyscraper: *Mattb325_DIY_IntlStyle_Base (the Lobby and first five floors) *Mattb325_DIY_IntlStyle_Mid (the middle five floors which you repeat as often as you need) *Mattb325_DIY_IntStyle_Top (the upper five floors and roof junk area) To start you off, I have made four fully functional, ploppable lots with jobs of varying sizes: 15, 20, 40 and 50 floors. These lots are also reasonably modular and you can plop them down in clusters like the display pictures. The ploppable lots are found in the landmark menu and provide CS$$ jobs (I've used CS$$ as there is always infinite demand in game, and CO demand often ends up negative by using ploppable skyscraper lots). They therefore require road access - the busier the better, water and power. Like all of my work, these are suitable for CAM and non-CAM cities alike. --------------------------------------- Please note that as these are vertical modular pieces, you will see little seams/apparent misalignment/repeated textures at certain zooms. I've corrected it all as much as is possible: it's not super visible unless you go looking for it, but beyond the corrections I've made there's not really anything I can do about how the game stitches FSH files together for its own display purposes. And certainly, for non batters, the benefit of finally being able to make your own skyscrapers should outweigh any small visual seams at certain zooms. --------------------------------------- As this is released as a DIY set, by all means make and share your own versions of skyscrapers - you don't need to ask my permission - but ensure that you point to this file as a dependency for your creation. I. Lostalim Presents Pentatonic Offices The tallest building I have ever made, my specialty are midrises, but this one makes an exception. Not only has a musical name, but its trapezoid shape makes it unique from the other towers I have created. Doesn’t matter what direction the camera is facing, the building will always have a different look. Once again, the detail and rendering of the windows realistically depicts reflections, small differences in highlighting, and attention to surface textures. Peachtree Plaza is based on real cylindrical towers throughout the US. This one is modeled from the building of the same name from SimCity 3000. Careful attention was given to the windows/glass, so the appearance would look similar to other glass towers within SC4. Highlighting, gradients, and reflections were all accounted for. My most ambitious building yet, the Franklin Insurance Building is the most unique one to date, especially with uncommon green windows similar to base SC4 buildings like Lillard Audio and related styles. Small courtyard at the base, and shipping access on the side. Great rendered nightlights as well. Lot size is 3x3, and CO$$$/landmark stats in screenshots. No Dependencies! -

Ultra Modern Road, Avenue and Pedestrian Lane Canopies, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- One of the things that is quite difficult to achieve in SC4 is roads and areas of a city tile that convey a 'sense of place'. In almost all cities and large towns the main shopping streets, cultural precincts and prominent thoroughfares usually have their own immediately recognisable style; whether it is from architecture or street trees and street furniture. That is the genesis behind this series of canopies: to denote a stronger sense of place at street level while being functional. This second set of canopies is based on a striking ultra modern, layered and tinted glass panel design. There are 3 lots in this download, and each is functional. * A road-top bus stop. This lot occupies a 1x1 tile and is overhanging so that canopies can be placed adjacent to eachother all along the roadway; * An avenue-top bus stop. This lot occupies a 2x1 tile and is overhanging so that canopies can be placed adjacent to eachother all along the avenue; * A functional pedestrian-only laneway. This lot is 1x4 tiles long and must be joined to the road/street network and/or the NAM ped-mall pieces. --------------------------------------- IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING POINTS: * While road-top/avenue-top bus stops can be safely placed next to a commercial building without any issues, they cannot be placed adjacent to a residential lot or you will get a no-car-zot. This is limitation of the game and I cannot do anything about this. The exception to this rule is where the residential lot is wider than the road-top bus stop: so for instance, if you place a 1x1 road-top bus stop next to a 4x4 apartment block, the apartment block will be fine, but if it is next to a 1x2 row house, then the row house will abandon because of no car access. * The functional pedestrian laneway is NOT a ped-mall; it is simply a pedestrian enabled lot. If you connect two of these lots directly together, SIMs will be unlikely to cross them (that is why a ped-mall piece is used to connect lots). --------------------------------------- The bus stops are found in the misc transit menu and have a capacity of 50,000 (and support all types of vehicles: pedestrian, bus, car, freight). Daiwa House, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- This detailed skyscraper first appeared as an unfinished project in the 'Ones That Never Made It To The STEX' thread. Daiwa House is a smaller skyscraper located in Tokyo that used to house the Japan Rail Freight offices. I liked the various forecourt and pedestrian/underground parking space areas, and I have also given the podium roof a green-space treatment (this area of the building has a more Japanese style "karesansui" garden, but raked pebbles and little stones won't work at the small SC4 scale) that makes the building equally suited to either Japanese-styled cities or Western-styled ones. It should also complement the series of other Japanese buildings I have made. The building is offered as a high wealth, high density Commercial Offices Building on a 4x4 lot. It grows on all tilesets and employs 2,255 sims. It is suitable for CAM and non-CAM cities alike. PWN London, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Inspired by the squat and dumpy newer buildings that litter London's west end, the PWN building is a really useful 2x2 building that I made to cap off W2W streets, as you can see in the picture: but it works equally well as a standalone building or in a more typical W2W setting. The building is real, but the sign is just made up (based on the initials of one of the tenants in the building...I couldn't resist). It is a six story, red-brick, limestone, steel and glass box which attempts to convey more complex massing by providing subtle bays along the secondary street elevations. The lot comes in two flavours: a growable Medium-Wealth Commercial Services and a ploppable Clinic, which is found in the Health Menu and is better than the in-game large hospital in terms of capacity (3,700) and coverage (856) radius. The clinic also provides up to 129 civic jobs. For a small footprint hospital, this one certainly punches (some might say 'PWNs') above its weight. Connor Apartments, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Based on a new build in Sydney's dense inner city suburb of Chippendale, Connor Apartments are a New York, art-deco inspired creation with floor-ceiling windows, privacy louvres, cozy balconies and large terraces perfect for denser, down-town environments. The building and its eye-catching privacy louvres are all clad in a reflective rose-gold coloured paneling. Even though this is a highly unusual colour-scheme, it still blends in with the SC4 environment and I have deliberately ensured that the building will work well with older bats as well as newer ones. Though not strictly designed for W2W, it will also work quite well in these settings and makes a good transition from row-homes to high density apartments. At 13 floors, this houses 434 Sims and will grow on medium and high density zones. The lot size is 2x3 and is restricted to the New York tileset to ensure that it doesn't become weedy. Nickov Industries, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- This dumpy 1990's building is inspired by a real building in Melbourne; the signage, however, is made up. In real life the building actually has the Jacobs signage of the building in Krakow that I just released last week, and, not wanting to release another of the same company, upon further inspection, I found that this building quietly counts among its tenants the Australian offices of Monsanto. Monsanto were makers of Round Up. Appealing to my twisted sense of humour, these products reminded me of the Orange-flavoured Vodka and Vodka-in-a-cask that Nickov made in the 1990s, hence the signage you see in this BAT. I certainly don't want Monsanto logos in my cities, but this building, with its unashamedly pointed Vodka signage, works for me on such a whole of a lot of crazy levels (including others I haven't mentioned in this description - you can work these out for yourselves), that I simply couldn't resist. The building itself is a glass and aluminium clad post-modern, ziggurat-style of 16 floors (including mechanical penthouse). Parking is underground and the entrance foyer is double-height. Heavy set, squat and unnecessarily dominating over its surroundings, it has all the charm of the MI6 building in London's Vauxhall. I have lotted it in two versions. A 3x3 and a 4x4 growable. Both have the same stats. The buildings are medium-wealth commercial offices offerings on all tilesets. Additionally, the eagle eyed amongst you will notice some new Occupant Groups. Jacobs Kraków, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- This modern, sprawling 7 floor glass and steel building is useful for suburban and urban areas alike. Based on a new build in Kraków, Poland, this building was made as a request. With the exception of the rear garaging area (and some dimensions to ensure this can fit on a 4x4 lot), this is a reasonably accurate rendition of the real building, including the odd wall angles which help break up the boxiness of many SC4 buildings. Outdoor terraces, dark-cyan tinted reflective, yet transparent glass, stepped massing and a sedum-planted roof to help regulate internal temperatures add to the modern, crisp feel of the design. Randomly arranged light boxes along three facades ensure this building is eye-catching at night. Employing up to 786 Sims, it grows on a 4x4 or 5x5 lot (each having identical stats except the lot footprint) on medium and high density. The buildings are high-wealth commercial services offerings on all tilesets. Additionally, the eagle eyed amongst you will notice some new Occupant Groups. CG Trader, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- This smaller building is useful for more suburban areas. CG Trader is a company that specialises in the exchange of 3d models, many of which end up in city building games like SC4 (typically without any credit to the original artists who made them), so I thought it was high-time that the offices had a presence in game. The building was loosely inspired by one of the buildings on the same street as CG Trader's Israel office. It is a 6-floor building with a decorative mesh brise-soleil in a distinctive dusky blue and white ombré look. Angled walls and different projections, roof spaces and courtyards help to break up the facade. It grows on a 3x4 or 5x5 lot. The 5x5 lot is arranged as a leafy campus-style building which, though popular in the real world, is still somewhat sparse in SC4. H&R Block Headquarters, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Allow the 'joy' of doing taxes in real life to spill into SC4. H&R Block has almost 12,000 retail outlets in the United States, Canada, Australia and India. H&R Block also has a tax office in Mawson, Antartica, and, given the prolonged deep funding cuts to most NASA programs from an indifferent administration which views science as voodoo, it is currently in negotiations with the International Space Station to have a tax kiosk in low earth orbit after Starbucks pulled out over disagreements with naming and giant illuminated signage rights. Anyway, this building is an interpretation of the Head Office in Kansas City, Missouri. A request on the BAT Request thread, it's a big 18 floor oblong-shaped building with retail space, cafes, restaurants, outdoor podiums and even a theater where you can claim your ticket stubs from next door as a depreciable asset. At any rate, the entire mid-rise complex certainly breaks up the blocky (pun intended) buildings of SC4. I've taken some liberties with the building and layout to fit it onto a 5x5 lot, but otherwise it's a reasonably faithful rendition that is offered as a High wealth Commercial, medium density, mid rise growable building for corner lots. Hold the CTRL key when zoning, or just use Buggis extra cheats to make it a ploppable.
