Thanks for the advice @matias93 and @11241036. The only program I've used thus far, besides LE and PIM is DataNode which was pretty easy to use and very helpful once I got the hang of it. Helped me track down some duplicate files and gave me a better idea of how the plugins are actually structured and how they work inside the folders. I've never even looked at Reader but I should get familiar with it. I've seen posts on threads and seen shots of it being used so I have an idea of what it is. I'm really not very tech savvy, to be honest, but I am learning little bits at a time. If I didn't ever have to modify any files on my computer I'd be a happy guy but I would like to learn how to anyway. I'm just extremely careful and slow when I do things like that so I don't make a lot of progress. Being able to add another menu for ploppables would be ideal because there are other things in the mayor menu that I'd really like to get out of the way too besides the myriad of trees so, DAMN seems to be what I need. I will look at iLive's reader though too and get familiar with it. Thanks again for the help, people!

I can honestly say that one of the reasons I love this site so much is simply because of many of the people on this list. This is a community, after all. I can't even tell you how many times they've helped me and how much I've learned from them, whether it was directly through open discussion or indirectly by following their threads. All that and also the sheer amount of time and work they've all put into this site; making tutorials, tracking down lost files and dependencies, sorting out technical issues, finding new and improved ways to build and play our cities, giving direction to the lost and sharing their expertise and skills so willingly, especially with those of us who really don't have a lot to give back - their devotion to the game and to all of us who play it and love it is all quite mind boggling, really! They're also very interesting people to talk to - at least the ones I've talked to are Kudos to the administrators for recognizing the efforts of these people and thank you for continuously making this community better all the time! Having these people as moderators is simply very good news for everyone here at Simtropolis.

@scotttbarry, that is a sharp looking waterfront and marina! The colors really pop and the seawalls and bridges look great! I really like the slender towers filling that lot the way they do, especially the gold ones. Great work! I'm looking forward to seeing it develop.

That is the difference between games like Squad Leader (squad and platoon level) vs World at War (company, regiment, division level) . The sgts, lts, and capts have to deal with morale in the face of battle right then and there much moreso than majors, colonels or generals so it's a good factor in that type of game. Morale is always a huge component of any successful wargame, IMO, because it's just a very real thing in the heat of battle and can make all the difference. The elite troops ie; paratroopers, Rangers, SS, etc always have a higher base morale fixed in the game and, like all other stats it varies accordingly during battle and good leaders (which have their own stats) can affect morale as well as efficiency of units. Even in a campaign which entails several different battles, morale can follow a unit into the next fray. Those are the things I find interesting in strategy wargames as opposed to shooters where everyone is a hero. Yes, it makes perfect sense. Graphics aren't as important to me - heck, most of the games I named were board games at the start so there were no graphics. The digital versions have graphics but they're not on par with any shooters - not by a longshot. Don't have to be either. I like the numbers and stats that dictate strategy more than action in many cases. I like the cartoony look of MnB2 also. Reminds me a little of other flash games like bloons tower defense which is hysterical fun! I haven't played it yet but I did look at it briefly. I will give it a go soon. I'm always up for trying wargames of any type, especially WWII genre.

Interestingly enough, I just realized that 4 of the 5 members I've been following since I joined in September '16 have all just become moderators! Can I pick 'em, or what? Well deserved on all accounts and good news for the entire community as well!

I've always loved playing older wargames, especially strategy based ones. I grew up with Avalon Hill Bookcase games with boards and pieces and countless hours of agonizing mathematics to make moves. Games like Panzer Blitz, Blitzkrieg, Axis and Allies, etc. Matrix Games has all of them in digital versions now and many, many more. They aren't free, however, but they are the ultimate in strategy wargames of all genres. Anyone who has an interest in that type of game should check it out (and feel free to pm me if you'd like someone to play them with ). My favorites are World at War and the Europe in Flames series - East Front, West Front, Rising Sun. After a while the AI is relatively predictable but the games are amazing when played head to head or via email, like chess. Nothing compares to outwitting a real opponent who is anything but predictable and the stats and equipment info are incredibly realistic and accurate. I will check out MAB2 as I also like flash games but I've never found a good flash wargame. It sounds great! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I'm certain you are absolutely right about it. It never even occurred to me that when the game said it was patched that maybe it wasn't, in fact, patched all the way. I think I may have misspoke in my last post - what I meant to say was that the GOG version was patched properly from the get go, not implying that they actually did anything special to fix it. That wasn't my intended thought at all. See? Now that is something else I didn't know. That's why I'm here. To learn these things from the people who KNOW these things! Thank you for sharing your wisdom, as always!

Hmm, that explains something I've wondered about for a while. When I had the game on disc years ago and even with the Maxis patches installed I had this same issue but just never bothered to use the UDI anymore because of it. After I purchased the digital version of the game from GOG I haven't had this problem and I do now use the UDI much more often because it works better and the UDI missions are kinda fun sometimes. Maybe it is a patch issue after all. I have to say; the digital version seems to have fixed a few issues I had before with the disc, even with Maxis patches installed. Maybe GOG patched it better?

new year XXXVI ・ Shougatsu 2017
MeMyself&I commented on RipRap's City Journal Entry in Okaiken V3/V4 (Archive)
That was a very interesting presentation, I must say! I really enjoyed it! I don't understand a word of Japanese, unfortunately, but my daughter LOVES Japanese music and art in all it's forms, from classical to contemporary to anime and manga and, through her, I have come to appreciate something that was very foreign to me not long ago. I loved the symphony - could you enlighten me as to what orchestra that was so I may research them a bit? Speaking as a musician; they were PERFECT, and I would really like to hear more of them The pictures, themselves, are fabulous! Such bright colors, popping loudly but clearly, and the foliage was simply gorgeous! I honestly didn't even notice that the streets were devoid of cars until I read the note about it . It's great to see how other cultures celebrate things like New Years and other holidays. Japan is so wildly different than the U.S. but, strangely, not so different in many ways. Thank you for sharing this and Happy New Year! -
Same here. I think the only perfectly flat farmlands are actually in Nebraska. And I mean perfectly flat - for miles and miles and miles . . . I use the Ennedi Slope Mod as well but I'm currently using the medium315.dat. The Mount620 is better suited to your hilly region and I'll switch to it when I start working in the mountains. It definitely makes a difference with the smoother streets. I only mentioned it because it looked like some of your roads had that "herky-jerky" look to them but this picture you posted of the hillier area looks nice and smooth. But, then again, this recent shot is zoomed in a little more than the others so maybe it's simply perspective. I was just curious, really. I think it all looks great and I enjoy watching your farmlands grow and grow! I'm actually really interested to see how the vanilla farm region plays out in '40s era phase 2 because I think that was a big turning point in American farming with technology progressing so quickly because of the war. I'm curious to see if that has any effect on the farms themselves in such an AG heavy region with no SPAM or CAM.

Whoa! Well, maybe my great great great grandkids will have a jet then . I do need to get out a ways and check out the newfangled bridge. It's a beauty!! BTW, I like the little mounds and knolls in your fields. Looks more realistic than perfectly flat farmland but, doesn't your slope mod level your streets and roads? I don't mean completely flatten them, just iron out the bumps. One thing about the original game that always bugged me is the way the roads and (especially) streets would be bumpy and almost upheaved in areas where it wasn't pancake flat. Slope mods are one of the greatest things ever created for the game IMO.

Here is a couple of suggestions from @APSMS to a similar discussion in the farm thread not too long ago. Maybe something here that will help? Posted November 19 · Report Post "I use whatevermind's mod that lets you plant trees in a square coverage area. Haven't had any CTD issues using it so far. Vortext treed his entire region by opening up each large city tile, going to Z1, and using the macros on his mouse and a particularly heavy marble on the Shift Key to tree each tile. After each city tile was done (seasonal HD flora; so about 5 minutes), he would move onto the next tile. I think he was watching TV or something while he was doing it. Drunkapple's speedy rendering tool is best used the same way." "I suspect rotating the tile adjusts the moisture levels (ever so slightly) that control which trees get planted where, which would explain why you notice a difference between orientations."

Hmm, I don't know. Snob Hill has some real fine digs, fer sher but, I still enjoy my roundabout drive to the back 40 every day. Maybe when the airport comes and I can have me a private jet to fly back and forth to Hop Bottom!

Sure you do! And you definitely have the skills and tenacity for research and analysis to give it the love it needs - or, at least a hug now and then

For what it's worth, I used this program to help me with a similar conflicting mod problem I had a couple weeks ago and it worked great. It also helped me understand a little more about my plugins and how certain types of files work together in the plugins folder as well as finding the conflict that was causing the issue. I know that @twalsh102 has a lot more experience with this program than I do so maybe he can say more definitively if this is right for you and what you're experiencing. One thing I've learned is to download and install mods, especially lots, one at a time and see how they work before adding a bunch more. It's not a bad idea to have this on hand anyway if another plug in issue arises in the future. It's actually pretty easy to use and very helpful sorting out conflicts and just seeing how things work together - or not.

You must've built your ball parks on natural hot springs. I see the soccer fields are snow covered though. Snow is kinda nice on the farms- 11 Replies

Off to a good start with the downtown. I like the diagonal buildings. A thought for diagonal parks and paths come to mind here; I use these in a lot of areas around my region. Maybe you can find a use for them. They're all really nice! There's also a really great set of filler parks for NAM curves on the STEX by @murimk. A couple of them are diagonal (45 degree) but the others fit beautifully on wide angle curves. They're here if you're interested; These are the ones I use but you can put a shout out here and I'm certain you will get a lot of great suggestions from peeps across the site.

Those are sweet diagonals, Phil! Hard to believe those are your first ever lots I have to say; I really like your railyard a whole bunch! Nice, neat work and very inspirational too, especially the diagonals! Gives me some new ideas for my own railyards (if I ever have time to actually finish them). Thanks for the update!
