A guide to fast, yet precise, MMP tree planting
TheMurderousCricket posted a topic in Mapping Community Room
TMC's guide to fast (yet naturally random) MMP tree planting Let's say that you have some really nice MMP trees in your plugins folder and would like to use them to prepare a stunning terrain. However, there is one serious flaw - they cannot be used in the "god mode". This tutorial is, to a great extent, inspired by @Terring's featured article "Mayor Mode Ploppables in God Mode Landscapes" (link in "Step 6"). My tutorial is kind of an expansion to the idea that might be put to use in a certain specific setting, when you have a certain specific goal in your mind which is - a massive, yet precise placement of MMP items in the game world. If you are anything like me, you just don't have enough time in your busy life to make your own tree controller or surf the iLives to convert MMPs into GMPs. So, the next thing you do is to enter mayor mode and try to put some trees in a predetermined region where you would like to see a diversified forest. You start off and find out that your MMP set can only plant one tree at a time. "Brushing" the trees like the Maxis defaults is impossible. You try to brush them on anyhow (comparable to painting "The Birth of Venus" with a toothbrush) and encounter even more problems: - If your hand is not fast enough, you get some ugly, unnatural lines of trees rather than a forest. - If your hand is fast enough, you completely loose precision. Luckily, there is a certain workaround that may help you plant a convincing, diversified forest, keep it precisely where you want and let you go crazy on the mouse. (The latter of which is, unfortunately, necessary to keep your MMP trees randomly scattered). Here is the workflow: Step 1 Run SC4 Terraformer and load your region. Step 2 Go to the desired position. Pick the "LowerZone" brush and set min/max height to about 190 (water). Step 3 Paint the borders of your forested areas. Simply said, you now create "barricade ditches". The ditch will simply block the trees from being planted beyond the ditch (Or in front of it, depending how you look at things). Step 4 Save your region and open SimCity 4 Step 5 Go to the desired city tile(s). Start "aggressively" planting your trees, trying to avoid the "paint lines". Just relax your wrist! But before you do, make sure to do this. You're welcome. Unfortunately, there is no better way other than a "tree-hug, eco-seizure mode" to realistically paint MMP trees. So just go nuts with the cursor. But! The ditch you have just created, allows for those wacky cursor movements - the water barrier "sinks" any seedlings that could appear where they don't belong. You will hear a distinct "burp" each time a seed hits the water. It's almost like a Geiger counter! Step 6 When done, obliterate the city just like @Terring's tutorial instructs to. Not to worry - the trees will remain. Save the tile and exit SimCity. Step 7 Go back to SC4 Terraformer and load your region. We have to remove the ditch now. Step 8 Note that the city you have planted the trees at has been crossed out from edition. Since we actually do wish to modify it, uncheck the box next to the affected city. Step 9 Now, use the "Flatten" tool and fill the ditches with the appropriate height brush. In fact, just reconstruct the affected area any way you wish. Step 10 Now comes the tricky part. Save the area but be careful - when prompted... ...select big, fat NO. This will save the trees and the reconstructed terrain. Step 11 Now, run the game again and enjoy the "water-defined" wooded area. -
Is it possible to convert MMPs into GMPs?
TheMurderousCricket posted a topic in Mapping Community Room
Hello Guys. What the title says. I currently design my first SC4 map and I was wondering if it is at all possible to convert a set of MMP trees for use in the GMP mode? You see, the problem is that I would like to adorn my newly-made terrain with some trees that are available in my mayor mode. Much the same way as @Terring does in his examples of planting, then, obliterating. The problem, however, is that the MMP set I mention has no "brush effect" for covering large expanses quickly. This forces me to add one tree at a time or hold the left-click, putting an ugly line of trees on the ground. This is why I wonder if I can somehow convert these props for the god-mode use. Any tips will be highly-appreciated. -
I'm currently preparing my region for gameplay and am at the point of planting forests. I use the god mode tools (CTRL-ALT-SHIFT god mode). However, I cannot change the size (diameter) of the tool. I could bet there was a key combination to increase or decrease the affetcted area, but I cannot remember. Using CTRL+ NUMPAD-or CTRL+NUMPAD+, or anything like that doesn't help.

Hello. Why my game crashes when my God mode brush forest reaches out of map? Basically can't let my brush hits our of map while planting trees. I am using Pacific Northwest Tree Controller.

I've been using several tile brushes like the one shown in this image. I turned on the prop anarchy. The question I have is: how do I place it with boundaries. For instance. I don't want it to cover the grass/road. I want it to nicely trim an edge. The problem is that you always place it as a square, which doesn't fit unique places. How do I make it happen?

Concrete/ruin brush - possible? (YES!)
Kaputnik posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
First of all, I'm aware of the area fillers collection, but I personally find the assets a bit awkward to use - especially since I use right click to rotate camera (so I can't free rotate ploppables). They also take up a lot of slots in the asset menus. What I'm looking for is something that works similar to the sand paint tool included in the Terraform tool and BloodyPenguin's Resource addon - but with concrete, ruined and/or other textures. Is this possible at all - do those textures exist in a way that lets them be painted in? I'm particularly interested in using these as ground fillers around train tracks (could also help visually distinguish local/regional/cargo/passenger tracks), but also as fillers in industrial/urban areas. --------- Edit: There is now a mod for this, yay! BloodyPenguin released this: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=689937287 Edit again: He actually posted it on ST too: -
Request: Brush of 4x4 tiles for zoning RCIO
dat.tomas posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Can someone make a 4x4 tiles brush tool for zoning residential, commercial, industry and offices? Just like other tools for marking zones, but only brush with 4x4 tiles dimension. If not, is it possible for someone with no experience in coding (except some Autohotkey scripting) to do this? -
326 Brushes + More for the Map Editor!
Shroomblaze posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Hello Everyone, Some of you may know I just recently released my first map for Cities: Skylines! You can check it out here... Sea Turtle Falls I spent 2 days searching for cool brushes I could use to create maps with and tested them to see which ones had the coolest effects. I thought that I would share some of the brushes I found for the map making community and the tools I used to create my map Sea Turtle Falls. I sorted them into 2 groups. "Essentials" & "One Offs". The Essentials folder is what I found to be the most useful or had the coolest patterns/effects that could be used for map making. The One offs folder is full of cool icons that I didn't really feel the need to get rid of but still would keep around if I felt like using them at some point. I did this because switching between tools in game can cause the game to take longer to load while map editing. So I wanted to limit the number of brushes down. I named them by categories in such a way that made sense to how they looked. I suggest you pre-load your brushes into the folder before starting the game, I found that if you try putting them into the brushes folder while the map editor is running it will lag out and cause the game to freeze up if you try to do it all at once. You can load brushes 1 or 2 at a time while the game is running just fine however. You can always remove the brushes when you're not using them to keep the load times down. Rotate Brush Mod I Highly Suggest Subscribing to the mod Rotate Brush located here. It will allow you to rotate your brushes in 15 degree intervals. Created by Permutation aka Duddle after I requested someone make it from the IRC Channel... #skylines-modders @ irc.esper.net Thanks Duddle! Persistent Resource View I also Highly Suggest Subscribing to the mod Persistent Resource View located here. It will allow you to keep the natural resources overlay open while painting natural resources. Without it you will be doing guess work having to go back and forth between overlays. Super helpful mod. Now I must say that the map editor can be very touchy at times, I've found after testing a number of brushes that the editor will do what it feels like it wants to. Altering Images or making patterns out of a single Symbol, Not sure how it chooses to do what for certain symbols but it does. So while some brushes might not do what you want them to do, They still have a cool effect and you should learn them for what they are and how they behave. If you find any cool brushes please share with us in this thread! Thank You! You can download all 326 Brushes Right Here! Enjoy! The Essential Brushes The One Offs -

Hi! This is a mod what enlarge the brush of the trees on the god mode. Holding Shift and clicking on the center of a city large, you can fill all the city in only 1 click. (but, maybe take some time cause the game get slightly slow. I could fill an entire large city in 1 minute, using the Big+ brush) This zip contains 2 archives. The "BigPincelArvores" and "Big+PincelArvores". The second brush is larger than the first, and it is that what can fill an large city on 1 click. Be careful: when using the Big+ brush, never use that on their max size on the large city border, you can get a CTD. When will work on the city borders, use Shift + (number 1~0, 1's brush is smaller than the 9's, and the 0 is the default size) to redefine the size of the brush. To install, put on plugins folder. If dont works on the first time, make a folder no the plugins folder called "ZZZZZZZ" and put the plugin there. The pics are of the size 7 and size 1 of Big+ brushes. The maximum size border doesn't appear on the city cause its is larger than the city. Hope you enjoy.
