bugs Simtropolis 9.0.x - Bugs & Issues Report Thread
thecitiescenter replied to Cyclone Boom's topic in Simtropolis Related
It actually happens to me quite often for whatever reason, the latest being when I tried to upload my Flag Pack 3 to the STEX. Usually a Ctrl-R refresh once or twice will bring it back, otherwise i just close browser and re-open and that usually works.- 1,131 Replies

Tell everyone in your house not to pick up the phone or make any calls for a while, its time to fire up that 14.4, 28.8, 33.6... or if you're really on the cutting edge of technology and rich enough to afford one... 56k modem! Beep... hssss.... krrrrrr.... chhhhhh... BEEP BOOO BEEP BOOO BEEP BOOO... krrrrrrr... chhhh.... time to log back on to a simpler time, when mankind had yet to figure out all the intricate details of online grocery shopping, when humanity was still spared of obnoxious social media "influencers", when software you bought was yours... forever... or at least as long as your CD-ROM drive kept working... or until the Y2K bug hits, I guess... Welcome to the 1990s and early 2000s with this set of 20 flags of various tech companies and stores of the "dotcom" era. Included in the pack is a 5x1 ploppable lot (as pictured), which can be found in the Parks menu. The flags can also be used as props individually and you can add them to your lots as you see fit by using PIM-X or, for the true early 2000s vintage experience, Lot Editor (LE). Flags included in this pack: Apple, America Online, Altavista, Ask Jeeves, Cisco Systems, Compuserve, Creative, Excite, Fry's Electronics, Incredible Universe, Juno, Microsoft, Maxis (1990s logo), Maxis (2000s logo), Micro Center, Netscape, Sun Microsystems, Yahoo!, eBay, and Intel. There are also two additional bonus flags included. No dependencies for the ploppable lot other than what's already included in this pack.- 2 Reviews

Time for another map! This time it's Orlando, Florida, USA. Now you too can build Walt Disney World in SimCity 4! The map is 20 x 20 large city tiles and is accurately scaled based on DEM data. It includes the cities of Orlando, Winter Garden, Sanford, Kissimmee, Lake Apopka and all of the Walt Disney World Resort area. In order to install the map you will need wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer as the file is in SC4M format. I hope you can put this map to good use, enjoy! -TCC View My Full Map Catalogue Here:- 1 Comment

First up, this is Taipei, Taiwan (Republic of China). Using my real-world, accurately scaled Taipei map available here. Current region view shots: Xinyi District, Taipei 101, still quite the work in progress. Taoyuan Airport, Taipei's primary international airport: Songshan Airport, Taipei's secondary international airport with flights mainly to other major Asian destinations and domestic destinations within Taiwan:

Help running SC4 on Windows 11
thecitiescenter replied to Karumaas's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Actually its the other way around, the newer gen laptop (Intel Core i9-14900HX 2.20 GHZ, 32 GB RAM, NVIDA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU) was the one that experienced significant slow down after the update, while the older gen didn't experience any noticeable changes in performance. Both GMAX render times and SC4 in game performance (especially the load times) slowed significantly on the newer laptop after the update, but not the older laptop. Even booting up the game took like 12-15 minutes, while it used to take like a minute or less. I think you're probably right about being throttled, or there was some issue w/the update. For reasons including but also beyond these SC4 issues, I ended up reverting that laptop back to 23H2 for a second time (which resolved everything)... for now. Hoping that a future update will address it. -

Not it, unfortunately. Already had “Prefer Maximum Performance” checked, also tried updating drivers. -
Help running SC4 on Windows 11
thecitiescenter replied to Karumaas's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
So recently, I updated two of my laptops to 24H2. LAPTOP A: Intel Core i9-14900HX 2.20 GHZ, 32 GB RAM, NVIDA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU LAPTOP B: Intel Core i7-10750H CPU 2.60 GHZ, 16 GB RAM, NVIDA GeForce RTX 2060 Under 23H2, both Laptops A and B worked fine, however, after updating both laptops to 24H2, I noticed significant slowing in performance w/Laptop A, but not so much Laptop B. For example, load times for Lot Editor (using the same plugins folder for both laptops): Laptop A: ~3x slower after the 24H2 update compared to before the update. Laptop B: No noticeable change in load time. Another test I did was to check Gmax/BAT render times, rendering the same exact model on both laptops: Laptop A: Rendered the model in ~175 secs in 23H2 prior to the update. Rendering slowed to ~400 secs after the update to 24H2 Laptop B: Rendered the model in ~175 secs in 23H2 and the same ~175 secs after the update to 24H2. I then tried rolling back the update on Laptop A back to 23H2 and everything went back to the way it was prior... obviously, rolling back isn't a sustainable solution, so putting this out here in case some of the more tech savvy users around here have any ideas or tips, or have any ideas what may be causing the differences. Thanks in advance. -
@Tyberius06: @kschmidt is correct, its a 3DW conversion. I don't have distribution rights and I'm not sure what the original file's license allows... I converted it a long time ago for my own use and am not sure I can even find the files now (it was actually two different files from two different creators which I combined to make one building). I can try and look into it to see if the original creators' license allows for distribution, but unless that's the case, unfortunately, it won't be released publicly.

Hi Everyone. So I've decided to start a BAT thread to show some of the stuff I've been working on. These are, and started out as, projects to primarily fill gaps in the cities that I'm building. I'm not really looking to become a career modeler or anything like that (I'm already well into my career doing something else). This is a hobby and a way to relax after work and family commitments are done for the day (sometimes (more often lately) at the expense of sleep.. but who needs that, right?). Anyways, I hope to release these once I'm satisfied that they're "release-able"... but thought I'd share with you all regardless. AVIATION: Fact of the matter is, I really, really miss the content put out by the AC, SCAG teams and mike_oxlong. If you followed my CJ from years ago, you'll know that I love to build airports. Since there hasn't been any activity from the aviation teams a lot of the planes and liveries available on STEX are becoming outdated. A month ago, I contacted mike_oxlong and he was kind enough to share some of the base models that he converted from Flight Simulator (with permission from their original modelers for release to the STEX). With his help (and it was a LOT of help -- HUGE thanks to mike_oxlong), I began re-texturing some of those models. Here are two examples: Xiamen Air Boeing 787-800: Amazon Boeing 767F: RETAIL: Working on those planes kind of opened up a bit of a BAT rabbit-hole for me. For years, I've wanted to add some retail to my cities with brands that don't exist on the STEX. Primarily, I was looking at Asian American brands that are quite common where I live in California and in major metropolitan areas along the US west coast, in Texas, the East Coast and in Canada (and some mainstream brands as well-- specifically Pacific Northwest based brands). In the past couple weeks, I've come up with these: 99 RANCH PLAZA: This is a retail plaza styled after similar retail plazas found throughout suburban areas on the US west coast and in Texas. It's anchored by Taiwanese-American supermarket chain 99 Ranch, which is based out of Buena Park, California. They have 42 locations in various US states. There's also a GEN Korean BBQ, a 85' Bakery, a Tea shop and Koi Palace Seafood Restaurant (a popular (and rather large) dim sum restaurant in the SF Bay Area). SEAFOOD CITY PLAZA: After coming up w/the above, I re-skinned the original to make a smaller plaza anchored by Seafood City, a Filipino-American supermarket chain based out of Pomona, California. There's also a Red Ribbon bakery, Filipino restaurant, and a Jollibee's (a Philippines-based fast food joint w/over 3,000 locations worldwide including a few in the US) in this plaza. COSTCO: I made this one just to fill a spot in my re-creation of Tokyo. It's a Costco, but its based on their Japanese locations, which, unlike their American counterparts, are usually two stories and set in a very urban environment (although I've seen one in New York like this). It's purposefully W2W so that you can plop a parking garage next to it, though if I have time, I may model a parking garage for better consistency. I've got quite a few others coming up, as well as some on my "To-Do" list, including two more Pacific Northwest-based retail chains (one store has the initials F and M... and the other N and R.) Anyways thats it for now.

Thanks @EldarMark for sharing and letting us all know. This is very sad news. It hits me personally a little harder because I recently also unexpectedly lost my mother and reading Lee’s obituary, it seems both passed on the same exact date. I will sincerely miss Lee @Odainsaker and while I never met him in person, we communicated frequently on this site and through PM’s. I considered him a friend and a mentor. As others have already pointed out Lee did so much for the SimCity community, I remember long ago downloading his work for SC3K, esp his awesome buildings, and reading his contributions on various forums. Decades later we’d connect over our shared love of SC4 and map making. I was still a novice at mapping at that time and was awed by his detailed map creations. He had a real attention to detail, not just to geographic features but would share long and detailed histories of the cities we would discuss about and map for SC4. He seemed to know or would seek out information on everything about everywhere, from Beijing to Munich to Louisiana, whatever, where ever. He would go on about why certain cities were laid out a certain way, or why a map should be rotated by x degrees, all because of a series of historical events he’d share that occurred in that city. It was always so interesting and I learned ton from Lee. And on top of that he always took the time to walk me through the technical mapping problems I would encounter as I was learning how to make them and would give me all sorts of tutorials along the way. I couldn’t have done any of the mapping that I do now without his help. He will truly be missed, but I hope his memory and all he’s contributed lives on here for a very, very long time.

Time for another map! This time it's New York City-Newark-Long Island, NY-NJ, USA. The largest metropolitan area in the United States, home to over 22 million people, the map includes all of New York City and its boroughs, Newark and parts of New Jersey and most of Long Island. The map is 28 x 24 large city tiles and is accurately scaled based on DEM data. It has been rotated so that the street grid in Manhattan can be easily built in game. In order to install the map you will need wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer as the file is in SC4M format.
