Welcome to the 12th Annual Trixie Awards Ceremony!

 

All of your 2014 Trixie nominations have been tabulated, perused, inspected and stamped with the official approval of Dirktator, so it's on with the show!

If you're new to Simtropolis, Trixies are awarded in three general areas - Custom Content Creators, City Journalers, and Community.

 

The city-building games we love to play would not have the variety of beauty, form and function if it weren't for the amazing community of creators who give their free time and effort to share their works with the entire Simtropolis community and beyond.

The Trixie for Best Civic BAT goes to...

"After creating tons of residential and commercial buildings, NYBT even branched off to industry with their ABBT division, covering the entire RCI spectrum. However, some civic BATs haven't been made very often. So NYBT founded the Civic BAT Unit (CBU) and gave us some beautiful fire departments in the usual NYBT quailty (read: top-notch) and even went the extra mile to include some diagonals."

 

The award for Best Modding Tool (SC4) goes to...

"Modding a game is never easy, let alone creating modding tools themselves. Tropod's work on his "SC4Reader Tool" is to be admired. During 2014, he began documenting progress on this, and has since continued to make regular updates and bug fixes. Along the way, each release has been accompanied by images & detailed descriptions, helping showcase the tool's features."

"It's been awhile since we've had anyone developing a substantial modding tool for SC4 that really allows developers to get into the thick of things. Tropod's SC4 Reader tool very admirably fits that bill."

"Creating the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere is no mean feat. But 7 months in the making, Reddonquixote managed to create a perfect replica of the Q1 Building. The amount of detail in this BAT is truly remarkable. Not just the building itself, but the subtle intricacies all help bring it to life -- including the reflections in the swimming pools, and lighting on the tennis courts! Another great thing is throughout the project, Reddonquixote documented the entire modelling process for others to learn."

"It just doesn't stop. It seemed like every month through 2014, Reddon dazzled us with a new BAT that probably should have taken years to model. From the Melbourne Star Wheel to the State Library of Victoria (all a myriad of skyscrapers in between), Reddonquixote has proven himself the master of this category time and time again."

His death was a shock to many members, and he will be sorely missed. I'd like to see him honored with one last Trixie to add to his collection."

"Every now and then, we have to say a final farewell to an upstanding member of the community. In 2014 Darmok (John Redmond) passed away, and will be remembered fondly for his amazing presence at Simtropolis, his wonderful city journal, Anduin Valley Revisited, and his helpfulness with SimCity 2013."

First off congratulations to both the winners and to those who were nominated. No doubt there were some very tough choices to make in many of the categories. Hopefully whether you won or not, these awards will inspire us all going forward. Secondly I'm flattered to have been nominated and to have won in a couple of categories. Truth be told, I don't feel entirely comfortable with winning since I wasn't too active on Simtropolis in 2014, but I'm still grateful none the less. I'm even more humbled by the words that were spoken about my work... to who ever wrote those words, wow... thank you. Lastly I hope that we all continue to contribute and breath life into this awesome site in our own unique ways going forward. Whether you play SC4, Cities Skylines, both or anything else, never hesitate to share your work and your thoughts with us all.

Ugh, Dirk wins every time. I'm beginning to think that category is rigged...

But seriously, I know it sounds generic but there are some very deserving members, and many personal favourite CJs, BATs and the like made a show in the awards. I do love Trixie time, because it shows how our tight knit community is valued through recognition of their works, and especially those that go beyond the normal. However if you didn't win, there is no fear! Each member who participates in the community, whether they earned a Trixie or not is valued. It does not matter if you helped one member or fifty, if you posted a few images of your city or enough to make a series of coffee table books out of, the most important aspect is that you have made your mark on the community.

I say this coming from myself, but I'm sure the other staff would agree. Speaking of, well done to my colleagues for the management they did this year. We are blessed with a forum that most of the time is a wonderful place where everything goes smoothly, but on the occasion things go a bit wry they are there to keep it all together.
