  1. Pop Culture BATs

Hello i am hoping this thread helps me and others in finding BATs for Pop Culture. I cant speak for others but my reasoning for wanting these BATs is that i intend to create a region with multiple cities that focus on something (Example being 1 city being Marvel based another city being GTA based) and have one main city that is a combination of all. So far i've found BATs for the Simpsons (moes tavern, barneys bowlerama, simpsons house, kwik-e-mart, lard lad donuts, springfield tire yard and town hall, plus what i believe to be java the hut and king toots), GTA (found a few things like gas stations, ammu-nation and some vice city stuff) and other fictional plugins like Roxxon from Marvel, Scranton Building from The Office, what i believe to be Monk's Coffee Shop from Seinfeld among others. My wish list is the following but not limited to: Simpsons (Really anything that wasnt mentioned above) GTA (Any and all BATs.. Burger Shot, Cluckin' Bell, Some of the Casino's and Hotels from San Andreas/GTA 5 and Vice City respectively) Marvel (Stark Tower, Stark Industries, Oscorp, Avengers Tower, Avengers Compound to name a few) DC (Anything Batman as well as Daily Planet and LexCorp from Superman to name a few) Fast and Furious Franchise (Torettos Market & Cafe, the Toretto House, various locations from 2 Fast 2 Furious) Pokemon (Would be cool if there were some Gyms, a PokeMart, Professor Labs, Department Stores.. basically anything to go with the Pokemon Center that i can be found here) The Office (Dunder Mifflin and Michael Scott Paper Company to go with the Scranton Building) Yugioh (KaibaCorp, Grampa's Shop, Pegasus' Castle among others) Others like Jurassic Park (InGen), Friends (Central Perk), Seinfeld, Bobs Burgers, Monsters Inc, Suite Life of Zack & Cody (Tipton Hotel), Ghostbusters, Toy Story, Futurama, South Park, Family Guy or Anime versions of actual places (WcDonalds for example). There are a host of other Pop Culture buildings that if found couple always be used somewhere. If anyone has any links or BATs stored of these and others please share them.
  2. I know it's weird, and I'm not sure how many Pokéfans clashed with SimCity 4, but... If the SimCity 4 Advisors were replaced with Pokémon (For some reason), which Pokémon would take which roles? Like which Pokémon would be the Utilities advisor, which would be the Financial advisor, etc. Just a useless fun question if you're all bored
  3. Historic city of Brandt restored!

֍ CITY OF BRANDT ֎ CULTURAL HERITAGE PRESERVE RESTORED TO ITS FULL SPLENDOR! Mew: Nee nah niou miau-mya nya nia-nia-niaou!! (Translation: We have more goodies for everyone!!) Jenny Salisbury: Without a doubt! The Ministry of Heritage Protection, and the Steward of the Land himself, have been really busy returning the shine to the historic city of Brandt! Queen Ilene: Today we want to welcome visitors to a new era of historical treasure preservation! Long-neglected, the mighty fortress of the west rises proud and renewed, with carefully restored and reconstructed landmarks, cityscapes and amenities for residents and visitors alike. Those who wonder how the city used to look like before its massive transformation can check one of our earlier entries: Mew: Niai nee miou-nee nahniau, mew miau nee-nee!! (Translation: I'll be showing you around, there's lots to see!!) Mew: Niou miaoh nah-nin mee-mew nya-niei mew-mew nya-mew! (Translation: Those old walls have been re-built and made to look like new!) Mew: Nya-niei miau-mya-nya mew-mew-niei miu-miou nee-nee! (Translation: And there's another choo-choo train to go with it!) Mew: Mewmenewniu nau-nee niu-niou mya-mee myamya-mee mew! (Translation: Funny how this looks old but is actually new!) Jenny Salisbury: That's because we have restored Brandt's status as a fully-fledged city! With that comes having its own city hall, built to resemble the original structure from the times of old. Mew: Miaun-nya nah mewmew ñiau niei-niu-nah mew-mew-niei! (Translation: Brandt got a cute little park next to the choo-choo train!) Queen Ilene: Brandt has received generous grants to restore the architecture around the city, adding an overall greater proportion of medieval styled houses and businesses. Mew: Nee-nee nee-miou-nee niaunya! Nah neen mriaumew new-nee nah-ni mioumioun. (Translation: This is Nidoking Tower! The Green Army used it as its headquarters.) Mew: Nah mya-mee mriaumiou, ñyanya nah mrium nah Myamianian Myan-nya!! (Translation: A fancy castle, almost as cool as Cameran Palace!!) Jenny Salisbury: Castle Brandt is quite the jewel! This palace was inhabited by the warlords leading the Green Army, but they certainly built it with the intention of supplanting Cameran Palace as a royal residence. Queen Ilene: Not only that, Castle Brandt is poised to become one of the city's grandest attractions, being so easy to reach from the various mass transit services, and the footpath encircling the city walls. Mew: Meeew, nyah-nah miwmew-nyah mew-mew-niei! (Translation: Yeah, like the super fast choo-choo trains!) Mew: Niou nah mriou-nya nah niou mewniu nah nee-nee! (Translation: Or the slow ones that go into the city!) Jenny Salisbury: For those who want a more historic experience, there's carriage tours along the wall, it's quite the charming experience! Queen Ilene: Park goers can also stop at the numerous gazebos along the footpath, where they can enjoy a themed garden away from the city's hectic environment and bask in the mild climate and historic majesty of Brandt. Jenny Salisbury: The city's tramway was also extended to provide a better connection along the conventional railways! Here travelers can reach Silurum, Zacien and the Renshi Free Trade Zone without having to drive or pay for the premium services of the Rota Shinkansen. Queen Ilene: These transfer stations, first unveiled in Zamacentia, have proven very popular and convenient for our train riders! Jenny Salisbury: This gazebo here makes me wonder if Mew is playing hide and seek! Queen Ilene: Where did Mew go? We're almost done yet with the tour! Jenny Salisbury: He's probably hiding from this crowd, you know how elusive he has to be when out in public. Jenny Salisbury: Mew is right! We have not decided yet on what to do with those terrains! Queen Ilene: As with other big decisions, we're opening up the discussion to a public hearing. Let us know in the poll which options should we consider for this terrain east of Brandt, north of Alba and southwest of Cameran. And thanks once more for joining us in this magical journey around the Kingdom!
  4. Kingdom of Rota International Airport debuts!

Mew: Nyah-nyah, nyah-NYAAAAAH!!! Nee-niau nah niau-nia-ñia-nianiau ñnniaaauuu-niou!! (Translation: We did it, we DID IT!!! We have the international airport!!) Queen Ilene: Dear Arceus....we finally made it!! We have completed the grandest infrastructure project of the Kingdom! Jenny Salisbury: This is truly a most remarkable achievement! After so much planning, consulting, coordination, design, construction and finishing touches, we now have a world class gateway to the world. Mew: Nee-nya na ñioun nee MEEEWWW nie-nieh!! (Translation: It has its name in huge letters!!) Mew: Nyah-na ñiin niei nah niau-nyan!! (Translation: And a shield made of flowers!!) Queen Ilene: Can you now show us the airport from afar? Mew: Mew-myah! Mewmew-moumou! (Translation: Oh, sure! Lemme go up!) Mew: Nee-nee miu nya-nio mrew, niuniu neenee mew-nya niai meemee nin. (Translation: Even with all the noise, people really seem to like living here.) Jenny Salisbury: Zoning regulations used for the airport's free trade area require stringent sound-proofing of all buildings. This way, residents, workers and visitors alike can have more peace while enjoying the benefits of this grand facility. Mew: Nee-nee nah niaumou nya-nyanah! Mewmew niau Nieniu nee nium-nee nah-niei nee... (Translation: This is the cargo terminal! I wonder how Rhennus will compete against this...) Queen Ilene: I'm checking the images you're sending us, and it seems there's already some take-off queues. Jenny, are you sure that this was the right moment to show the airport? Jenny Salisbury: Of course! Why would we show an empty airport, we need to witness in awe its full potential! Mew: Niau nee-nee nah ni-niai-nee nya-nyanyah, miau? Nyau nah NI-NIAI-NEE neen? (Translation: And this is the VIP terminal, right? What does V-I-P mean?) Jenny Salisbury: VIP stands for very important person and very important pokémon. This is a private and extra secure area where chartered and private planes operate, away from the crowds and waiting at the main passenger terminal building. Mew: Niau nee niou nyah-nah nenei mee-miou-nyah ñnniaaauuu... (Translation: Now this looks like a very important plane....) Mew: Nya nee-niau miu!! (Translation: And this one too!!) Jenny Salisbury: That's because they are! These are the Royal Ho-oh and the Royal Lugia, the two official airplanes used by the Queen and her work team when doing official trips outside the Kingdom. Mew: Miiaaauuu!!! Nah mewmew niai nii neen!? (Translation: Wow!! Can I fly in these!?) Queen Ilene: Of course you can! You are part of my work team as Steward of the Land. Mew: Miau-miiaaau!!! (Translation: Hooray!!!) Mew: Nana-nana-nana nah miumiumiu-miu-mee ñnniaaauuun! (Translation: Helicopters are like silly-looking planes!) Mew: Nya-niau-niau nye-nyeh ñnniaaauuun muhmuh!! (Translation: There's so many airplane bedrooms!!) Jenny Salisbury: They're more like doctors' offices! This area here is the aircraft maintenance center, where airplanes of almost all shapes and sizes get cleaning, paint and repairs. Mew: Nee-nau ni-niouni neen... (Translation: This one's going in...) Mew: ...nah nee-nau ni-niouni niau, nie-nee niu ñiai!! (Translation: ...and this one's going out, ready to fly!!) Queen Ilene: Now this is impressive! It seems all the passenger terminals are full!! Jenny Salisbury: This one's even fuller! This aircraft is waiting at the holding area until one of the smaller gates goes vacant. Queen Ilene: Thank you so much for joining us in this special update! Jenny Salisbury: We still have many more things to show of our Kingdom, be on the look-out for new content! Mew: Nya-nyai!! (Translation: Bye-bye!!)
  5. Queen Ilene: I feel something worrying tonight....the South Rotan Alps seem unusually rainy tonight, while the Palace and the Kingdom's lowlands remain with clear skies... Jenny Salisbury: All I know is that we'll soon find out, Mew is always on the look-out for troublesome situations and will let us know in due time... ֍ LAKE DIAMOND ֎ RELENTLESS RAINS CAUSE A ROCK FALL! Mew: Mew-niu-miu-new....miu-niu-ñiu!? (Translation: Oh dear Arceus....what happened!?) Mew: Niu-nya niou MEW ñiun!! (Translation: These are some big news!!) Mew: Niu-niu mew-nya niau-nio-nin niai miou nya-niei nee-neen miu-miui miei miau-miou nah miei miour, nya MEW-MEW miou-miaun nya-nya nee nya-ñiai nio-nio-nio miei!! (Translation: Today we are reporting live from Highway 15 between Lake Diamond and Lake Pearl, a massive rock fall just happened with last night's torrential rains!!) Mew: Neen MEW-MEW miou-miaun mrr miun nah nya-niei nah mium nee-nee nya mioumia nah neen mrum-mrum, ñiou nya-nyem nii-nii-niu mewmew! (Translation: This massive earth movement tore through the roadway and took with it a total of six cars, four of them visible here!) Mew: Miau-mew-mew-miu niu-niou nun mew-meewn nah nya-niu nium-niu-nee, nau-nah nya-mie-mien mau mew-mew niu-nee niou-neu nie-mee. (Translation: Authorities report zero deaths and a few minor injuries, all the affected were able to be rescued safely.)
  6. Scorbo Welcomes Spring in Style!

Queen Ilene: Well what do you know! Mew really has something amazing in store for us! This time it's a very special facility in the town of Scorbo! Jenny Salisbury: And I'm sure this will open up immense possibilities for city beautification throughout the Kingdom! Mew: Mew-mew, miu nyah nah niu niou mew miiioouu nyan nya!! (Translation: Hey guys, we have a new place to grow plants at!!) Mew: Niu-nyah mewnyaniuniah nyan mewmewmuh!! (Translation: It's an ornamental plant nursery!!) Mew: Miu mium nini nan nyan mew niu mew-mew na miumyum ñiu niou! (Translation: Here's where many of the plants in the parks and gardens come from!) Mew: Niu nyah nian niei mewniun! Nya-nyah niou, ñiu, mewniai, mrrr-mrrr nya nyanniau! (Translation: These are the main buildings! There's a store, tools, supplies, trucks and greenhouses!) Mew: Niu new-nyah ñiou nyam-nyam!! (Translation: Here we have lots of flowers!!) Mew: Niu nyah nian niei mewniun! Nya-nyah niou, ñiu, mewniai, mrrr-mrrr nya nyanniau! (Translation: These are the main buildings! There's a store, tools, supplies, trucks and greenhouses!) Mew: Nee niou mewmew nyan-nyan? Nyei niou nah niun niau mya-mya nyan-nau nio miu-mioun! (Translation: See those little trees? They were just moved out of the greenhouses for field growth!) Mew: Nyan nee nya niau nau-nau nio nioi nya mrrr-mrrr! Nya -nya miou mewmew-niu nyaniai-ni! (Translation: And here are the warehouses for soil and machines! And a lot of visitors arriving too!) Mew: Niu nah mee niu nioniu nyan mewmewmuh niau-nya neeniou, mew-mewmew mew niu! (Translation: This won't be the only plant nursery of the Kingdom, many more will come!)
  7. The Kingdom readies itself to go sky-high once again!

Queen Ilene: We are excited to announce seven proposals for the siting and configuration of our upcoming International Airport! These seek to optimize the airport's functionality with balancing both positive and negative side effects of its operation. As part of this process, we would like some input from citizens, local government and air transport professionals. Jenny Salisbury: We are very eager for your feedback! We are finally moving forward with this project due to the Kingdom's recent attainment of its first million inhabitants! Below are some considerations for this decision. The Royal Port Corporation summarizes them below: METEOROLOGY: Prevailing winds are of monsoon type, arriving from the south and southeast during the summer half of the year, and from the north and northwest during the winter half of the year. Winds occasionally shift to a more east-west alignment, but only rarely take a full east-west alignment Near the airport site we have Lake White, which routinely gets blanketed in fog in spring, autumn, and in the early mornings in general. URBAN AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The city of Zamacentia is located relatively far away from the main conurbation of the Kindom, which roughly spans from Zacien in the southwest, all the way to Obstragon and Soblun to the northeast. All of the conurbation is linked by high-speed rail, while Zamacentia does not have this benefit. The city of Brandt is the closest settlement for options A, C, D, E and F, residents might show worries of accelerated deterioration of its rich historic architecture, along with complaints about noise, air and water pollution. The city, at the same time, serves as the current western terminus of the Rota Shinkansen high speed rail line. SITE TOPOGRAPHY: Sites closer to the south (adjacent to Zacien and Brandt) are constrained east-west by Lake White, and there are dangerous cliffs belonging to the Alba River Canyon, which can complicate landing approaches arriving from the south. Sites to the north are more constrained by the mountains forming the northern boundary of the Kingdom, while the adjacent hills to the east are taller than towards the south. AIRPORT OPERATION: Parallel runways allow for maximum throughput, of up to 60 aircraft maneuvers per hour (30 take-offs, 30 landings, simultaneously), but have the least flexibility for wind variation. Crossed runways (T, L or X configurations) have a more limited throughput for aircraft, as they do not allow simultaneous maneuvers and have a more limited ability to handle alternating maneuvers. They, however, facilitate holding maneuvers in the sky areas while also keeping more flexibility to adapt to the wind direction. Orthogonal runways (parallel or L) facilitate the construction of airport facilities, giving more room for terminals, parking, cargo, emergency services and airport-side development. ֍ KINGDOM OF ROTA ֎ INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SITING PROPOSALS Site 1--North of Zacien, northwest of Alba-Brandt, southwest of Balfour: Mew: Nyah nee niei nya ñnniaaauuu-niou mew? (Translation: Should we place the airport here?) Site 2--South of Lake Bronze, southwest of Zamacentia, northwest of Balfour: Mew: ...ñah neiniu-nee nimiu? Niu-ñie niu niou! (Translation: ...or maybe here instead? Make sure to vote!) Option A: Option B: Option C: Option D: Option E: Option F: Option G: Queen Ilene: Please communicate with us and give feedback on which airport layout to use, or which one could be further adapted for an even better solution to the growing air travel demands of Rota. Don't forget to vote on the poll accompanying this update!
  8. Mount Steel Ski Resort opens for Christmas fun!

Queen Ilene: Welcome once again! We once again arrive with the most wonderful news about the Kingdom, which are sure to bring joy to residents and visitors alike! Jenny Salisbury: No doubt about it! Today we open what will become the coolest attraction of the South Rotan Alps: ֍ MOUNT STEEL SKI RESORT ֎ OPENS IN CHRISTMAS DAY! Mew: Mew-mew! Niu nyah miumiumiu nah Miau Nee Mii Mew-Miou!! (Translation: Hooray! We're opening the Mount Steel Ski Resort!!) Jenny Salisbury: Can you show us around how the town has changed and what new facilities we have for our winter tourists? Mew: Mew! Mew niu myah nee Miau-Nee mewmyah, nii-nah miaun nah mew-miou nee-nee myah nieh miou miau-mia nii-nii nioun. (Translation: Sure! Here we start with Mount Steel's village, which has sprung a resort district at the toe of the skiing slopes.) Mew: Miau-mia miu-miu-niu nau nah mew-miou nii-nii ni nah Miau-Nee Nii Niaun, nee-nee miu miau-myah-ni mewmiu miiiuuuumiu miumiumiou ninai nii mioun miahniah. (Translation: As the centerpiece of the resort district is the Mount Steel Ski Lodge, ready to comfortably shelter winter visitors inside its log walls!) Mew: Mio-miou! Mew Niin nyah-nah Mee-mai Myomyah nyah niu miai Mew! Nii nee miumio-nieineenay miau miumiu Mew-nyah... (Translation: Uh-oh! Seems Kidd and the Weavile Bros. want to find me! They still underestimate how sneaky I am...) Kidd Summers: Mew should be somewhere around here....Alright, we'll play this little game once gain! Weavile A: Weav! (Translation: Ready!) Weavile B: Vile! (Translation: On it!) Mew: Miu nyah miamiai....niu miuuumiu nyah! Mew-niu niah nah miuuu miou nah-niah miu-miou niuniu, nah niau-niumnium, miu-myam, miohmuh, muhmioh nah miamian miamiamiu miumai niei nio miiiuuuumiu-nion miumiumiah nah nioh miumiumiui miumiumiou nianiai! (Translation: With that aside....it's snow time! Here we have a full view of the resort district, where restaurants, gift shops, hotels, inns and rental apartments provide space for winter sports enthusiasts and more leisurely visitors alike!) Mew: Miuuumiu niei nii-niini niu-niu meemee, niiniin miumiu-niu-niu-niu miu myahmiou... (Translation: Snow makes everything look pretty, but limits visibility from above...) Mew: Miuniai, nya miumeemeenya mewmyah niuniumiu, myamyah nah mewmew miaumiau niu, myah-miau mewmew-nee miomionio niuniu nya niaou! Myah mew-mew nee, Miumee? (Translation: Meanwhile, the original village flourishes, getting a very charming look, and now wanting to be promoted into a town! What do you think, Jenny?) Jenny Salisbury: While Mount Steel's growth has been impressive as of late, they still aren't quite ready to be promoted into a town. They still need 12,500 inhabitants before they can incorporate a municipal government and no longer be ruled from Drent. Mew: Miaumia Mew! Greetings to my fellow SimCity 4 fans! Today I bring you my take on the Kanto Region, Pokémon style. This map contains a rotated view of the real Kanto Plain in the southeast corner of the island of Honshu, Japan. The topography of this map is compressed, such as to not compromise the quality of the lowlands and to avoid excessively elevated highlands. The map is not intended to accurately represent the Japanese Alps or Mount Fuji. Players can enjoy a map measuring 73.728km X 63.488 km, or 72 X 62 small city districts. The config was optimized for the placement of cities, towns and landmarks in accordance to how the Kanto Region is laid out in the Fire Red / Leaf Green Pokémon videogames. The download includes two sets of files: * A set of files for the SC4M file, which requires either SC4 Terraformer or SC4 Mapper to open and render. To get it, visit the SC4 Devotion LEX to download the programs if necessary, links provided: Terraformer: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=731 Mapper: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2880 * The other set is for in-game rendering using an 8-bit grayscale image. For proper rendering, players must use beskhu3epnm's High Elevation Import Mods w Erosion Control parameters, namely the 1000m plugin with the desired erosion level (I'd recommend either the no erosion or the quarter erosion (QE) variant). 10. A reflection on the progress of the Kingdom

Queen Ilene: I want to take the opportunity to reflect upon how far our adventure at the Kingdom of Rota has progressed! Jenny Salisbury: No doubt about it! We have shared 11 entries in our city journal and countless other interventions talking about the finer points of the Kingdom's development. We currently govern a population 875,560 strong, with rising living standards and ever-growing natural and built amenities. Mew: NYYAAAAHH nyah-nyah-nyah!! Nyah miau mee-mee mew-miou-miu nyah niu-miou mee-miou!! (Translation: Hiiii everyone!! We just finished producing a nifty video!!) Queen Ilene: Please, enjoy this historic retelling of our progress in the Kingdom of Rota! Jenny Salisbury: We apologize if this wasn't the content our followers were expecting for the next entry, but don't be disappointed, we shall have more amazing views and action underway! Mew: Myah-nyai!!! (Translation: Bye-bye!!!) -------------------------------------------------------- I want to thank all the followers of my content, this little project has outgrown its original expectations and keeps getting more wonderful and wonderful! Through this city journal I have learned the following: How to make an in-depth surgery to a workable region, transforming it into a masterpiece Play a region without resorting to the hallmarks of suburban sprawl: freeways and endless tract housing Build memorable parks and monuments Be (somewhat, at least) consistent with maintaining a city journal Build a custom airport Leverage ploppable water to the fullest extent Add special effects within the game and to the screenshots to aid in immersiveness Backing-up and restoring glitchy city districts Make my loose posts into something fun and charming Start lotting my custom content (I'll publish it once I figure out the bugs they still have!)
  11. Rhennus earns its wings with its Regional Airport!

Queen Ilene: Today we have one of the grandest news update of the Kingdom, we are delighted to present our first airport, the Rhennus Regional Airport! Jenny Salisbury: That's right! It took an awful lot from the royal coffers but it is finally open for business. Most of our debut travelers are arriving for the Festival, and many more are expected in the coming winter for another big project we'll soon inaugurate, the Mount Steel Ski Resort. Let's now go with Mew, he'll show us around the new facilities. Mew: NYYAAAAHH nyah-nyah-nyah!! Nyah nyu-niu myah-nyah nyah-nah, miu-mew-mew nyu nyu-nyah!! (Translation: Hiiii everyone!! The airport is ready at last, let us show you around!!) ֍ RHENNUS REGIONAL AIRPORT ֎ ROYAL AIR TRANSPORT CORPORATION Jenny Salisbury: This airport is located close to the village of Rhennus, the namesake of this city district and visible just behind Mew. After many years investigating the lands of the Kingdom, we found this to be one of two outstanding candidate sites for a major airport facility. Among the considerations we had striking a balance between minimizing nuisance to highly populated areas while maintaining sufficient proximity to these, followed by ensuring an exceptionally convenient access to the Rhennus Industrial Park, visible in the far left side of the view Mew is showcasing. Mew: Nyah nee-nee nyu-niu miu-niu! (Translation: And this is the airport itself!) Jenny Salisbury: We start with an overview of the cargo facilities, the main reason for the operation of this airport. During the construction we coordinated with various freight logistics enterprises to establish a large distribution center adjacent to the cargo terminal. Meanwhile, the airport itself is expected to handle approximately 300 million tonnes of cargo per year once in full operation and 85 processed airplanes per day. We expect to reach this goal in six years, once operations have normalized between this airport and the upcoming Kingdom of Rota International. Until the latter is fully constructed, we will handle the bulk of passenger traffic at Rhennus. Queen Ilene: We are not only handling cargo from within the Kingdom, but also from our bigger neighbors with much higher passenger demands in their airports. To actually do that effectively, we still need to expand the railway facilities around the airport, connecting them to the Kingdom's wider rail network. Mew: Nyah nee-nee niau miu-miai myu-miu mew-mewmew! (Translation: And this is where your online orders go through!) Mew: Nanau mew niu nyah miau-myah nya-nya-nyah, mew-mew! (Translation: Follow me to the passenger terminal, this way!) Queen Ilene: Here we are at last! This passenger facility looks surprisingly big for a single runway cargo airport, but we are providing installations big enough to handle all sorts of situations: peak demand from highly touristy periods, space for emergency landing of medium and large aircraft, and numerous smaller routes within and beyond the Kingdom. We made it such that it peaks at around 6 million annual passengers, but we do expect a decrease in this traffic once Kingdom of Rota International becomes well-established. Jenny Salisbury: We're making absolutely sure to have room for big loads of visitors, distributed in these four terminals and totalling 33 gates, 26 of which handle scheduled commercial passenger flights: Terminal A: 10 gates for small regional jets and turboprop aircraft Terminal B: main international terminal with space for 6 wide-body passenger jets and 1 narrow body passenger jet. Terminal C: auxiliary international terminal with space for 9 narrow-body passenger jets. We expect to use this one mainly during peak demand seasons, as is currently the case with the ongoing Festival of the Guardian. Terminal D: general aviation terminal with room for private jets and chartered narrow-body regional jets, accommodating up to 7 aircraft Mew: Nyah nee-nyah niau nyau-nyah myai! (Translation: And here's the entrance side!) Jenny Salisbury: Ahem! Make sure the camera is properly focused first. Mew: Nyah-nyah, nyah-nyah!! Mewmewmew! (Translation: Alright, alright!! Here we go!) Queen Ilene: The entrance space is currently designed to have five passenger pick-up and drop-off areas, a singular and very large parking garage with space for 12,600 vehicles and some charming plazas for our visitors. We are currently evaluating the possibility of routing a high capacity passenger railway system with direct connections to the major cities in the vicinity: Cameran, Wellesley, Imbin and Obstragon. Mew: Mew-new nyah nee Nyah-nee nyah nee nah miau-nee nyah. Myah-myah-mee nee niau-nau mew new-niu nyah niau-nee, miau-myah nah miah-miou. (Translation: Jenny and the Queen call this an office park. All I see is houses for hasty people with coffee, papers and smartphones.) Mew: Nyah niu-niu nah mew-miu-myah-myah!! Nee-nee mew nah miiiiaaaauuu miu myah nyah-niou. (Translation: And here's the service area!! This is where the planes go to the doctor.) Queen Ilene: Silly Mew! Those are maintenance hangars, it's kind of like a doctor for the planes, but they are machines, not living creatures like humans and pokémon. Mew: Nyah-niou mew-nah mew miiiiaaaauuu! (Translation: Doctors' offices for small planes!) Jenny Salisbury: And don't forget the southern side firefighting station, the road tunnel and the airport radio system. Those are super important to keep the airport operating safely. Queen Ilene: here's the hangars for the maintenance of the large airplanes, we have to make sure they can be in top shape to carry our passengers and merchandise. Mew: Nyah-niou mew-nah nyaaah miiiiaaaauuu! Nyah new-nah miiiiaaaauuu myam-myam niau-niu Nee-ni-niu-nee myah mew! (Translation: Doctors' offices for big planes! And here's the airplane food pantry @kim026 asked for!) Jenny Salisbury: Why don't we show our viewers how other parts of Rhennus are doing? Queen Ilene: Great idea! The airport has created big expectations for everyone, especially for the big industrialists of Rota and the residents affected by the airport project. Below we have Mew peering into the new Rhennus Technological Industries Zone, our brand new hi-tech industrial park. ֍ RHENNUS TECHNOLOGICAL INDUSTRIES ZONE ֎ MINISTRY OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Mew: Miu-myah-miou nyah nah nee-nee miu-miui! (Translation: It's powered by the spinny winds!) Mew: Nyah niu mee-miau! Miou myah niu-niu-nyaunyah nyah miiiaaauuu mrrr-mrrr! (Translation: A new village! Safe from river floods and airplane noise!) Jenny Salisbury: It also has a new park as well! Queen Ilene: Thanks for coming once again, we expect you in the next journal, we'll have more amazing views from our beloved Kingdom for all to marvel at. Take care! Jenny Salisbury: We still have more action going on at the Festival of the Guardian, we'll soon provide an update on the third day and the quarter finals of the tournament. Mew: Myah-nyai!!! (Translation: Bye-bye!!!)
  12. Bright Plans for the Kingdom's Power Grid!

Jenny Salisbury: Your highness, we just received an important message from the Office of Utilities! They seem to have their power grid expansion proposal nearing its final form. Queen Ilene: Thank goodness they finally completed it! We've been having fun at the festival but other parts of the Kingdom have suffered black-outs and brown-outs, much to the distaste of the citizens not joining us at the celebrations. I think this is important enough that we ought discuss it tonight. ֍ KINGDOM OF ROTA ֎ MINISTRY OF PUBLIC WORKS Office of Utilities Your Highness: After prolonged discussions with the Ministries of Planning and Demographics, Public Services, Economic Development, and Natural Resources, we have prepared our proposal for the Kingdom’s power grid expansion. As part of our findings, we have identified three future scenarios concerning the types of facilities needed to meet the Kingdom’s electricity needs. At present, the Kingdom has a monthly generation of 433,000 megawatt-hours (591 MW of nameplate capacity) heavily dominated by hydroelectric sources when considering only the grid-connected sources. Numerous settlements and communities still rely on community-level solar generation and the occasional wind turbine, which is fine for household, community commercial and small-scale agricultural needs. However, push for a more complete urbanization and rapid population growth have made all concerned agencies consider adding more grid-connected generation to facilitate this development, as well as industrial and large commercial demand that would follow the population growth. We especially think that this expansion would also benefit the proposed International Airport, upon request of the Ministry of Transportation. The grid currently has the following facilities: The current mix is overwhelmingly dominated by hydroelectricity, supplied by four reservoirs and six individual hydroelectric power plants. Waste management to date has also contributed a small share of electricity, chiefly to the rapidly growing city of Imbin. Geothermal facilities at Geyser Canyon, while very productive and with potential for expansion, are not ideally located to supply the forecasted future growth due to having a location distant to the new load centers. Natural gas generation at Cameran has been limited and isn’t considered worthwhile as-is, as it comes from two small natural gas peaking plants built to satisfy the capital’s needs while the Lake Pearl hydroelectric system was constructed. Due to the high reliance on hydro, we consider the grid to be vulnerable to drought and insufficient snowfall during dry and/or warm winters. As part of our research, we have identified twelve (12) sites worthy of development. These consist of three (3) new hydroelectric sites and one (1) hydroelectric site expansion, five (5) new wind power sites, one (1) new organic waste bio-digester biofuel site, one (1) waste-to-energy site expansion and one (1) natural gas site expansion. The generation equipment types are shown below: 1. SM2 Geothermal (geothermal): Geyser Canyon geothermal system shown 2. SM2 Trash and Burn (waste-to-energy): Rhennus WTE system shown 3. SM2 Wind Turbine (wind power): manufacturer’s image provided 4. Nexis Mega Generator (hydroelectricity): Lake Diamond pumped storage system shown 5. Natural Gas peaking plant (natural gas): Cameran site shown and manufacturer's image for proposed upgrade equipment. 6. Bio-digester-based biofuel (biofuel): manufacturer’s image shown They are summarized on Table 3 and described below: 1. Lake Bronze: this would be a new hydroelectric site that does not require the use of dams, reservoirs or large-scale inter-basin transfers, owing to the existing lake and height differential from the waterfall. A single Nexis Mega Generator hydroelectric module is capable of delivering up to 30,000 MWh each month, powering the northwest side of the Kingdom in general and the city of Zamacentia in particular. Due to its low environmental impact and nearby growing demand we consider this a high priority site, but we do make the clarification that this isn’t the only option available for the area. 2. Reservoir upstream of Corvalis: this would be a new hydroelectric site which does require a dam, roughly at the west border of the town of Corvalis. If built as proposed, the reservoir would provide enough water for two Nexis Mega Generator hydroelectric modules, delivering up to 60,000 MWh each month. This demand could be used to support Corvalis, Wellesley, Brixen, Mayfield, and Zamacentia, and indirectly even to Cameran. Due to its higher environmental impact, as well as the proximity to the existing Lake Sapphire site, we consider this a low priority option. 3. Reservoir upstream of Imbin: this would be a new hydroelectric site which does require a dam, roughly at the north border of the city of Imbin. If built as proposed, the reservoir would provide enough water for two Nexis Mega Generator hydroelectric modules, delivering up to 60,000 MWh each month. This demand could be used to support Imbin, Corvalis and the lower Cameran River valley, where a major agricultural expansion is expected. The reservoir would not only provide electricity, but also irrigation water for future crop fields. Due to its higher environmental impact, as well as the proximity to the existing Lake Sapphire site, we consider this a medium priority option. 4. Lake Diamond Expansion: Lake Diamond currently hosts a pumped storage scheme in association to Lake Pearl, using two Nexis Mega Generator hydroelectric modules. This scheme provides load balancing of up to 60,000 MWh each month during peak demand periods, while also sustaining smaller demand centers in Nida, Rockford, Lake Platinum and Mount Steel. Future expansion of regional development to the east would create additional electricity demand near this reservoir site, and the flows of the Platinum River are sufficient to support two (2) additional Nexis Mega Generator modules, adding another 60,000 MWh each month. Providing such expansion would protect the nearby Silver River from being impounded, thus leaving another major water body in pristine conditions for natural conservation. We rate this expansion at medium priority. 5. Zamacentia wind farm: the city of Zamacentia, while very populous with its 49,000 inhabitants, still boasts the most productive agricultural land flanked by tall mountains. This site can provide significant wind power, enough to energize twenty (20) SM2 Wind Turbines and thus providing 36,000 MWh each month. Due to the city’s high electricity demand and the site’s more centric location, we classify it as another high priority expansion of the power grid, but we also make the clarification that this isn’t the only option available for the area. 6. Alba wind farm: the city district shared by Alba and Brandt has a high power demand and limited power sources in its proximity. Its high population of 63,000 inhabitants commands a high power demand, which can be met partially by the recent creation of the Lake Ruby hydroelectric sites. Should future growth of electricity demand outpace Lake Ruby’s generation, we recommend installing twelve (12) SM2 Wind Turbines to provide these cities with 21,600 MWh each month, with ideal locations found on the eastern hills and the western farm fields. Until such need is observed, we consider this a low priority project. 7. Aldemar wind farm: Aldemar has the largest single city population of the Kingdom, with 62,000 inhabitants and easy access to two major power sources: the Lake Pearl-Ingena hydroelectric system and the Geyser Canyon Geothermal site. Should the city experience additional growth, in particular due to industrial activities, we recommend adding a wind farm consisting of six (6) SM2 Wind Turbines on the western hills to provide 10,800 MWh each month, making this a low priority project until said need manifests. 8. Rhennus wind farm: Rhennus was originally considered for the development of the Kingdom’s international airport, but was discarded as a site due to concerns with river flooding. At present the city provides agriculture and waste-to-energy power, but is expected to have future industrial growth. To meet this demand more cleanly, we recommend installing fifteen (15) SM2 Wind Turbines to provide these cities with 27,000 MWh each month, making this a high priority site. 9. Zacien wind farm: the city of Zacien has a new hydroelectric system fed by Lake Ruby, but its fields along the Alba river canyon experience strong winds which can be exploited for additional power generation. Should future growth of electricity demand in the area outpace Lake Ruby’s generation, we recommend installing eight (8) SM2 Wind Turbines to provide these cities with 14,400 MWh each month. Until such need is observed, we consider this a low priority project. 10. Lower Cameran River Biofuel Plant: future development of new agricultural lands along the Cameran River’s floodplain will create both electric power demands, opportunities for population growth and a large amount of agricultural and food waste (manure, crop residues, food residues) which can be processed with bio-digesters. The Ministry of Agriculture estimates that this waste would suffice to develop four (4) bio-digester generators at any suitable place in the valley, providing 28,000 MWh each month. We consider this a high priority project due to its potential of vastly increasing sustainability of our agriculture. 11. Rhennus waste-to-energy expansion: Rhennus was originally considered for the development of the Kingdom’s international airport, but was discarded as a site due to concerns with river flooding. At present the city provides agriculture and waste-to-energy power, but is expected to have future industrial growth. To meet this demand with the benefit of added waste management capacity throughout the region, we recommend installing two (15) SM2 Trash and Burn WTE plants to add another 13,000 MWh each month. The lower power output, higher pollution and available options make this a medium priority project. 12. Cameran natural gas power plant upgrade: before the Lake Pearl-Ingena hydroelectric project was built, Cameran relied on natural gas peaking plants for its power needs. Ever since the hydro project reached completion, growth in the capital city has been immense and vastly outpaced these now-obsolete facilities. Now, due to additional growth happening around the capital, new facilities may be justified on the basis of maintaining load balance. Said facilities are proposed to use two large Natural Gas generation units, supplying as much as 50,000 MWh each month, and replacing the original facilities adding up to 10,000 MWh each month. We consider this to be a low priority site as nearby options may be more cost-effective in supplying the energy demands of the capital’s suburbs. Find below a map showing the proposed upgrades to the power grid of the Kingdom. We have determined that all the proposed power lines are necessary, except those connecting to proposed generation sites that won't be added. We have found transmission deficiencies along the spine of the system: the power corridor between Rhennus and Alba. Residents living west of the Cameran portion of the corridor have experienced multiple instances of power outages, same as with those north of Cameran. Elsewhere in the region, power grid expansion will be coordinated with the land development plans and population growth trends: (Click to enlarge) TABLE 3: Proposed Grid-Connected Generation Facilities of the Kingdom For the power grid’s expansion we are considering three scenarios: a. Scenario A: this scenario consists of adding all of the proposed generation projects as presented. Together they contribute 400,800 MWh per month, representing an increase of 92.5% additional generation and totaling 833,800 MWh per month (1,139 MW nameplate capacity). b. Scenario B: this scenario consists of adding only the projects classified as high priority, as based on their merits. Together they contribute 171,000 MWh each month, representing an increase of 39.5% additional generation, bringing the total to 604,000 MWh per month (825 MW of nameplate capacity). c. Scenario C: due to the extreme dominance of hydroelectricity in the Kingdom’s energy mix, a third scenario was developed in which none of the hydroelectric projects were considered for the new energy mix. These represent an additional 190,800 MWh each month and an increase of 44.1% of generation capacity, bringing the total to 623,800 MWh per month (852 MW of nameplate capacity). Beyond these, we recommend opening public hearings to identify additional scenarios not considered originally, as well as to gather input on the three alternatives to further improve them to iron out any roughness within this proposal. If we adopt all the projects, our power grid would have the following energy mix: If we opt to adopt only the projects marked as high priority, it would look like this: And if we adopt all of the non-hydroelectric power alternatives, it would look like this instead. We are currently estimating the costs, benefits and potential impacts of all alternatives. Let us know if you have any doubts, recommendations or orders regarding this initiative. Yours truly, Bradley Keynes Co-author of Proposals for a Bright Future in the Kingdom of Rota: Power Grid Solutions Supervisor of the Lake Diamond Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Plant Queen Ilene: No wonder they were taking so long to develop this draft! It seems the development boom of the Kingdom has been so dramatic that the power grid couldn't keep up! Jenny Salisbury: Maybe we should open a booth for public consultation at the Festival--there's lots of citizens and visitors whose input we could use. Queen Ilene: Wonderful! Can you contact the event organizers to find a suitable place? I'll be making the arrangements to have staff from the Ministry of Infrastructure present at the Festival.
  13. A friendly meeting and tour before the heat of battle!

R's Lucario: The palace looks amazing from here! Riley: Yeah! That first visit we had some years ago was less-than-ideal, the lake was blanketed in fog! It's such a rarity to get a day this clear in the Kingdom. R's Lucario: Let's go in! Riley: Wait for me! You know it's a long walk to get there! R's Lucario: C'mon Master, you can run faster than this! Riley: Don't spend too much energy before tomorrow's battle! R's Lucario: Pfft--Like that's gonna make a difference! R's Lucario: Almost there! Riley: Wait for me! N: Ooohhh! Who do we have here? Tomorrow's quarter finals favorite team? Riley: N! What brings you here today? R's Lucario: I can see his aura shine with fiery passion! N: Ahhh, just got a bit bored of the Festival's amusement rides, and just wanting to clear my thoughts before tomorrow. And you, Riley? Riley: I was just showing Lucario around, the Kingdom has changed a lot since we last visited. N: I hear that it's not only Cameran that's changed, all of the capital's suburbs have changed too. Riley: Maybe we could go check that out. It's also a great way to keep the rivalry friendly. N: We're gonna need it, especially after I win. Riley: In your dreams, bud! This festival's tournament is full of elite trainers who have won all sorts of high-caliber challenges. R's Lucario: Do you guys need to fight now? The battle won't happen for a few days at least, and you gotta beat Cynthia first. And it's me who will be doing the actual fighting. N: I guess your Lucario is right. Let's not waste time and instead visit these places to clear our thoughts. Riley: How did your first battle go? N: Against Lance? He was no big deal, he's become more of a showman and seems to lack passion he used to have before. Riley: How come your zoroark isn't out with us taking part of the fun? N: Right! I forgot, he didn't like the ferris wheel this time, I think it's time he joins us. Zoroark! Time to join in the fun! N's Zoroark: Rark!! Zoro-zor? (Translation: Finally! Where are we?) N: We're at Aldemar, the city south of Cameran! And, Riley, what seems to be the hot fad of Aldemar? Riley: The city has been growing a lot and has acquired a modern look, they also have a new railway. Mew: Niu-niu-niu! Myah-myah! (Translation: Hee-hee-hee! This'll be fun!) N: Man, this place looks so different to Cameran! Doesn't feel as ceremonial at least. R's Lucario: Wasn't there a very special site over here? Riley: Oh, for sure! But we first have to go across the city to reach it. We might as well enjoy the cityscape on our way there. N's Zoroark: Zoooorrr, zor-zor-zor! (Translation: So much people in here!) R's Lucario: Isn't that the park? Riley: It is! It also seems like the Queen wanted something like this at the capital itself. Riley: I can most definitely feel we're approaching that place... R's Lucario: Where? Riley: We're not that close yet, we gotta reach the southwest side of the city. N's Zoroark: Zor-zor, Rark! (Translation: What's so special there?) R's Lucario: I don't know, but Riley will tell us when we get there. Riley: We're here, we're finally here! N: It's quite the remarkable meadow! Lush and flowery. R's Lucario: Master, I can feel what's going on! Seems like it's related to this thing... Riley: Could it be? Is this what's called a time flower? R's Lucario: It emanates so much aura....I'm sensing lots of things. N: So what's a time flower N's Zoroark: Rark-zor? (Translation: Time flower?) R's Lucario: Wait guys, I'm having a vision! Riley: Time flowers are a crystal formation which resonates with the echoes of time. Someone who can tune themselves to their aura can perceive past events which happened in the flower's vicinity. R's Lucario: You're right! The trees seem younger this way. N's Zoroark: Rrroark? Zor-zor-zor? (Translation: Huh? What do you see?) R's Lucario: I see a campsite....five humans....a big truck, can't quite distinguish it well....but I also see....is that the Lucario of Sir Aaron's legend? Riley: I can see all of those things! And I also see....wait, is that a bonsly hiding in the flowers? N: Riley, you're a pro at this! Riley: I'm still an apprentice, there's still an awful lot more to learn than what we've been doing here. N: We shouldn't stay here for long, we still gotta visit those villages in the mountains! Riley: Oh! Do you mean Ingena and Baden? That shouldn't take long. N's Zoroark: Rrark-ark!!! (Translation: Let's go!) Mew: Nyah-niau! (Translation: Fluffy clouds!) Mew: Niuu-u-u-u-u-u-u-u!! Nyah-miau! (Translation: Heheheheee!! They're coming!) N: Ahhh....fresh mountain air! And this place looks more interesting, too! Riley: Do you know this place? N: Of course! I got to visit it some days before you arrived. There's a few historic buildings to marvel at here, and a nifty waterfall. N's Zoroark: Rrark-zoark! Zoooorrr.... (Translation: For sure! Kinda hungry now...) N: But you just ate two hours ago! Alright, alright, we'll got get some thing to eat... N's Zoroark: Zzzz....rrark... (Translation: Mmmm....yummy... R's Lucario: Man, he's right! Riley: But you also ate a short while ago! What's going on with you two? N: They just won their respective battles today, let them enjoy the spoils of victory. R's Lucario: Is that the waterfall? It sounds so refreshing... Riley: Maybe we can get a better view if we go up to Baden Castle. That's the Queen's second residence, she especially loves to retreat there during weekends and autumn. N: Don't you guys want something to eat? I've got a feeling that the line's getting pretty long! N's Zoroark: 'Rrark-rark! (Translation: Food, finally!) Riley: What do these guys sell here? N: There's burgers, ramen, fish n' chips, hot dogs, fruit smoothies, 10 kinds of desserts and 20 flavors of soda. R's Lucario: Do they have candy? Riley: No more chocolate for you today, mister! R's Lucario: Coffee? Riley: No. R's Lucario: Tea? Riley: Nuh-uh! R's Lucario: Uhhh....brownies? Riley: Negative. Besides, chocolate and caffeine are supposed to be bad for you! R's Lucario: But I'm a steel-type, nothing's poisonous to me! Riley: Fine....I'll get you brownies with your burger. R's Lucario: Yes! Sweet chocolaty victory! N: Don't worry too much about it, they'll burn half of those calories when we reach Baden Palace. For about 40 minutes or so they have lunch at this little kiosk, and then continue their touring to reach Baden Palace. Mew: Miu-miu! Nyu-miu-mew! (Translation: Ooo! Look at them go!) N: It's a really nice place! Must have costed a fortune to her ancestors to build this thing here. Riley: Or a bloodbath. After all, the Kingdom's borders expanded after the Red-Green War. After that event, Rota was no longer confined to its valley, and actually was able to take defensive positions at the foothills and mountain passes surrounding it. N's Zoroark: Zorororo, zor-zor-zor! (Translation: The view alone is worth that fortune!) R's Lucario: Is that Ingena over there? N's Zoroark: Zor-zor! (Translation: It is!) Mew: Miu-miu-nyah! (Translation: They're gonna move again!) Another while later, they enter. N: Would you look at that! It's quite the cute little fort! Riley: It's like a piece of the past that remains steadfast against growing modernity around it. R's Lucario: Why is it in middle of the city? N: I believe this is where the city was governed from when wars were commonplace. N's Zoroark: Zoro-zor, rrrark-rark? Rark-rark-rark! ( Translation: Could we move here? I really like this place!) N: We'll see about that, we're kinda far away from home, are you sure you won't miss any of your buddies back in Unova? N's Zoroark: ... R's Lucario: It doesn't have to be forever! N's Zoroark: Rark-zor-zor-rark! (Translation: And now I like you even more!) The group bantered and roamed around Ingena until sunset, when they finally decide to go to their hotel at Wellesley. Fortunately for them, the new railways of the Kingdom allow them to travel directly to their lodging location. Mew: NYAAAH!! Niau-niau! (Translation: Wooo!! Nighttime!) Mew: Mew-mew niu-mew nyah-myah miu. Nyah-myah mew-mew mew-miu mew nyah myah niau miau-niau. (Translation: The Queen calls this a Convention District. All I see is a bunch of fancy towers and too many people and pokémon together.) Mew: Niu-iuiuiuiuiuiu! (Translation: Oh, golly, here they come!) N: The city's new Convention District sure is impressive! Riley: And I think there's a few more buildings still planned for this area. R's Lucario: What's that big building for? Riley: Well that's the convention center itself! It provides huge rooms and halls for people to celebrate big events of all kinds. For some reason they're always super fancy. N's Zoroark: Zor-zor-zor, ror-rrark! (Translation: Great place to sneak inside of!) N: We're here! Wonder why the Festival organizers lodged the competing trainers over at St. Ritzy's, rather than at any of the new fancy hotels. Riley: Cheaper and much faster to travel from St. Ritzy's to the Festival grounds compared to the hotels at the Conventions District. Man....today's been so fun and tiresome... N's Zoroark: Rrark-rark, zor-ror! (Translation: Cushy bed time!) N: Not so fast! We still gotta review our strategy to beat Cynthia tomorrow. R's Lucario: Good luck with that, Steven's defeat against her....wasn't pretty at all... N: How are you feeling about your illusion ability? N's Zoroark: Rrrr... (Translation: Uhhh...) N: Don't tell me the ice cream froze your brain already! Riley: Make sure to use some of the night for rest, Lucario and I have our next battle pretty early tomorrow if nothing shakes up the schedule. R's Lucario: Peace at last....gonna dream about those brownies! To be continued...
  14. Mew: Nyyyyaaaaahhh!!! (Translation: Wheeeeeee!!!) Riley: You did fantastic today! How are you feeling after the match? R's Lucario: Not that exhausted, honestly. But even then, Gardevoir was a tough nut to crack! Riley: We can go have lunch in the city, and we can explore some of its history. You can feel its impressive past through its aura. R's Lucario: You're right! And it seems this place had some intense events going on, but is very tranquil nowadays. Riley: Maybe we can explore some before the last three matches, how about it? R's Lucario: Fine with me. We didn't come here just for the battles. Riley: Would you look at that! R's Lucario: What's this place? It shines with the energy of thousands of bright minds! Riley: This is the Royal University of Cameran! And you're right, this place is full of talented students, professors and researchers. But it looks like a rather new facility. R's Lucario: Are you sure? Those buildings looks almost as ancient as the Queen's Palace. Riley: Don't be silly! You still have to practice sensing the aura of places before you can tell for sure. R's Lucario: I guess so! I can already smell the traces of construction in here....and do any Pokémon study here? Riley: I have no idea, and I don't think there's people around here to answer that, at least not right now. R's Lucario: And what's that weird-looking path with steel bars and stone pieces? Riley: That, my friend, is a railway. These are built for specially-designed vehicles to roll quickly between different locations! R's Lucario: And....do people and pokémon ride those vehicles? Riley: Of course! You might be used to the cargo railways back in Sinnoh and Iron Island, but these ones here are mainly for passengers....Tell you what, we can ride the next train that arrives here! R's Lucario: This place....looks a lot bigger than I remember it when we first visited. Riley: Very much so! For some reason people have been moving here in droves, and they need places to live, and amenities to make their daily life easy and comfortable. The latest of those is this very railway we're riding, but there's more to come. R's Lucario: This place is amazing! So many trees and flowers, and buildings too! Riley: And it gets better! Apparently that parcel there will be a new park. Which means there's also gonna be more people and pokémon around this place! R's Lucario: And is that another park? Looks very colorful. Riley: It also looks very new, maybe we can stop and have lunch there, there's food stands and restaurants in and around it. Kiosk vendor: Hey! What can I get for you today? Riley: Hi! I'll have two jelly donuts onigiri (stuffed rice ball) orders please! And four chocolate bars....and two large berry punch drinks. Kiosk vendor: Anything else? Riley: That'll be all. Charge it to my trainer card. Kiosk vendor: Coming right up! Riley: C'mon, you raced through those jelly donuts onigiris so fast! Didn't you want to enjoy them at least? R's Lucario: No time for lunch, chocolate is where it's at! Riley: Cameran looks so odd with those medieval townhouses mingling with apartment blocks and office towers. R's Lucario: Maybe they like the medieval houses too much to let go of them. Even if the office towers use so much more steel! R's Lucario: This place looks important. Lots of steel towers here! Riley: Welcome to Palace Avenue, the only place of the Kingdom where you have more than one lane per direction, and where you can get a stunning view of the entrance of Cameran Palace, dead-center! And that monument there honors Sir Aaron, it's built like his staff. R's Lucario: Staff? What did he use it for? Riley: Before pokéballs, a few skilled trainers figured out how to use crystals from this valley to make an object that fulfilled the same purpose. That's how he was able to prevent his Lucario from following him to the Tree of Beginning. Passer-by A: Is that Sir Aaron!? Passer-by B: Isn't he dead, though!? Riley: Excuse me ladies, I believe you're confusing me for a look-alike. I'm Riley, me and my team are taking a break after our first battle at the Festival of the Guardian tournament. Passer-by A: Am I dreaming!? An elite trainer just addressed us! Passer-by B: I know!! Pinch me, pinch me!! SOMEBODY PINCH MEH!!!!! R's Lucario: Pinch coming right up! Riley: Lucario! Behave yourself. That's no way to treat strangers, or no more chocolate for you, mister! R's Lucario: Yes, master... Riley: And here's the main plaza of the city. Beyond the roundabout and the rails is the Palace, and there's a much newer monument erected here! R's Lucario: Who does it honor? Riley: Well, Sir Aaron's Lucario, of course! That's a piece of historic mystery that was solved about ten years ago. It was at that time when said Lucario was released from the staff and ultimately ended up facing the same fate of Sir Aaron, saving the Kingdom from a collapse of the Tree of Beginning. R's Lucario: I'm already baffled by how much this place has changed, I can't believe how hard it must have been for the poor guy to be released centuries after! Riley: Believe me, Queen Ilene herself told me it was super traumatic, and confusing as well. R's Lucario: I'm starting to feel the aura of a sacred place... Riley: You mean the temple across the fountain plaza? R's Lucario: More sacred than that. Like a shrine... Riley: Could it be...? R's Lucario: I believe that sign says Shrine of the Ancestors. Riley: It does! And I'm impressed, you've truly managed to learn to read. R's Lucario: Is it open? Riley: Doesn't seem like it. The priests were at the festival, performing the blessing of combat as part of the inauguration of the tournament. We will visit again tomorrow, just in case it opens once more. R's Lucario: Hmph....such a shame we couldn't go honor anyone there today... Riley: Hmm....tell you what, we have a better place to visit today. We could go to the Palace, we have to head south along Palace Avenue to get there. If you keep honing your aura sensing skills, you will be able to perceive the rich history that has unfolded there. R's Lucario: I guess that will do for now... To be continued... The pokémon images originate in the Pokémon anime, save for the chocolate scene, which is fan art by an unknown artist. Screenshots by me.
  15. Second Festival day kicks off with Battles

Mew: MEEEWW!! Mew-mew, mew-mew!! (Translation: YAAAYY!! The Festival Tournament begins!!) Mew: Nyah-myah-mew, mew-miu-miu nyah! Miu-miu-MEW (Translation: Queen Ilene is arriving to the Festival! [The afternoon turns into dusk] Referee: For our sixth match of the day, uhhhh....Mewtwo and Alain face off! Go! Queen Ilene: What's so funny, Jenny? Jenny Salisbury: Oh, nothing! I'm just so amused at the referee, he can't keep his face straight when one of the trainers in this match is a pokémon. Queen Ilene: Told you that we have to define who actually qualifies to be a trainer! Mew: Mew-mew, mew-mew, mew-mew! Myah-nyah nyah! (Translation: Mew-two, Mew-two, Mew-two! You can do it brother!) Jenny Salisbury: Oh dear Ilene, you think that Metwo can withstand Mega Charizard X? Queen Ilene: Of course! Mewtwo was created for the sole purpose of being the mightest battling machine! He'll turn the tide and race up along the ranks! [...] Referee: Mega Charizard is unable to battle, Mega Mewtwo wins! Mewtwo enters the second round! [Dusk turns into night]] Referee: To close off the first round, Paul will confront Gary! Begin! Mew: Niu-niu-nyah!! (Translation: This is so exciting!!) Queen Ilene: How is Paul supposed to win this one!? Jenny Salisbury: At this point of the match, Gary seems to have it won. [...] Referee: Aggron is unable to battle, Blastoise wins! And thus, Gary completes the roster for the second round, the quarter finals! Queen Ilene: Thank you once again for joining us! We really hope this was every bit as exciting as it was to us! Tomorrow I will also bring an update concerning other matters of the Kingdom, stay tuned for more! My apologies for the prolonged wait! During the last month I have been facing some pressing personal matters and could not set aside enough time to actually piece up the story and edited screenshots to form the seventh chapter of the Kingdom of Rota city journal. This is a project I want to continue until reaching completion, and I want it to be done as excellently as possible. For those who aren't followers yet, make sure to subscribe to the journal, there's lots of fun to be had with the upcoming entries!
  16. Festival of the Guardian Begins!

Before we begin, I'd like to provide a reminder to the CJ followers (especially prospective ones), and that is to subscribe to the journal, rather than to the individual posts. That way you'll be notified when the upcoming entries are posted. Without further delays, here we go! Queen Ilene: Welcome everyone! Today we commence our grand, week-long celebration of the Festival of the Guardian! This event commemorates the Kingdom's heroes, Sir Aaron and his Lucario, who stopped the warring armies from causing our demise nearly a millennium ago. Here we celebrate their heroic and noble deeds, which protected our people and guide our lives. Mime Jr: Mime-mime! (Translation: Gonna be fun!) Jenny Salisbury: I want to give a warm welcome to our visitors, from throughout the Kingdom and abroad! Today I'll be giving you the tour of our fair attractions and activities, for some reason Mew seems to shy away from the big crowds, and boy, do we have plenty of those congregated on the southeast lake shore. You'll find the Royal Canopies, in burgundy, between the concert area and the dining yard, towards the center of the fair grounds. We'll have the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Rota delight us with some mellow tunes for our meals and more dramatic ones for an upcoming fireworks show, to be had on the championship night of the Festival: Jenny Salisbury: For those who have not arrived yet, we have two parking facilities: one being the provisional parking area next to the fair grounds, and the other being at the Queen Ilene Stadium, our new battle arena once growth of the festival had the old Cameran Court, next to the Palace, bursting at the seams: Jenny Salisbury: Both parking facilities have access to a shuttle service, providing convenient access to the different parts of the Festival grounds: Jenny Salisbury: Between the two parking lots we have the Agriculture and Forestry Exhibit grounds, where experts in farming/forestry machines, outdoor activities, livestock and traditional vehicles will teach you the skills and secrets of their trade: Jenny Salisbury: Next to it we have the Festival Marketplace, where you'll find food, drinks, toys, arts, crafts, auctions and new friends!: Jenny Salisbury: And we also have these food stands, which are yet to open but are expected to open tomorrow: Jenny Salisbury: We also have the old-fashioned amusement park rides around the concert stages! Here you'll find, from upper left and clockwise: the carousel, game booths, the bumper cars, the auction stage, the Royal Canopy, the Ferris Wheel and the Noodly Monster! Looking hideous as always! Queen Ilene: Relax, Jenny, you know the kids love it! Mime Jr: Mmi-iiime! (Translation: Pokémon like it too!) Jenny Salisbury: Anyway, towards the middle we have the main concert stage, where we'll have a series of bands performing for our visitors during the next five nights, and from which the main announcements well be made: Jenny Salisbury: Elsewhere in the festival grounds we have the Crazy Eights Rollercoaster, which, surprisingly enough, has not yet attracted a large number of visitors: Jenny Salisbury: And of course the Pokémon Battle arenas! These matches will begin soon, we're still open for participants! The rules are simple: each participant trainer will face a simple elimination with a team of 3 pokémon. Those who are interested should contact us to participate: Jenny Salisbury: For those who feel more adventurous, we have the Sailboat Parade and Exhibit, here on Lake Cameran: Jenny Salisbury: As well as an aerial parade, with blimps and hot air balloons! Jenny Salisbury: And of course our Queen wanted more fireworks on display for the championship night! Here's one of the other fireworks launch sites prepared for the festival: Queen Ilene: I'm so happy to have you all come and join the celebrations, this will be a wonderful week to remember! But, seriously, why is Mew missing out on the fun? It seems so unusual of him Mime Jr: Mi-mime?, mi-mi-mi mime mime-mime? (Translation: Really? Does that mean more toys for me?) Queen Ilene: Who knows? But hopefully he joins on time.
  17. Rota's New Reservoirs

Before we start, here's the replies to my fourth entry commenters: And now back to our regular programming! Mew: Nyah-nyyaaah!! Mew-mew-mew, miu-mew nyah-mew. Nyah-mew-mew! (Translation: Hi everyone! The Queen and Jenny are still having lunch. But rain is coming!) Mew: Miu? Nyah-myah-myah, myah-mew myah-nyah-miu! (Translation: See? Here they are, at the Rockford Tavern and Inn!) Queen Ilene: My goodness, this venison roasted with meadow herbs and cheri berry sauce is amazing! I Wonder if we could add it to the menu of the royal banquets... Jenny Salisbury: Your highness, I just got a reply from the engineers supervising the reservoir projects, they would like us to visit the new reservoirs, they're undergoing testing of their systems before their definitive inauguration. Since we're close to them, shall we return to the Palace and inspect them on the way back? Queen Ilene: Sure! Thank goodness the reply arrived just in time. And how's the weather outlook? Jenny Salisbury: We better hurry, it's around this time with the looming rain clouds gather for their evening deluge. Might as well save the leftovers to take back to the palace! Queen Ilene: Agreed. Let's get ready to show our viewers these new and nifty facilities! Just as we paid and left the Rockford Tavern and Inn, rain clouds started engulfing the landscape. They started pouring over Nida, the town downhill from Rockford, which gave us some time to resume our journey towards the new reservoirs. We go east along the Rockford pass and into the upper reaches of Lake Diamond, one of two new reservoirs on the far east side of the Kingdom. Just like in Nida and Rockford, rain clouds start to gather in the sky above us, we arrive just in time to have Mew provide us with a mostly clear view of the area. The mountain pass is a valley with steep sides and the only portion of terrain below the snow line. During the times of old, the invading red army controlled this area and projected its power from Castle Rockford, which they could supply reliably from this side. We barely reach a hamlet along the way to the reservoir before the clouds completely cover us, it seems so peaceful and solitary, although too far from a proper city for my comfort. Then the clouds start to spill their watery entrails over the landscape. I really now get why the engineers were so insistent on building the reservoirs here, there's a very plentiful water supply from the sky, as well as glaciers upstream from the reservoir site! Jenny was shouting at our chauffeur to go slower, as the fog and wet pavement made for some difficult driving along the winding lanes! As for Mew? He seems happy as ever, whether the sun shines or the rain spills. We reach the dam and the upper part of the first hydroelectric facility of our tour: the Lake Diamond Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Station. As one of the supervisors tells us, the beauty of this system is using two reservoirs at different elevations as a mechanical battery. When there's more power demand, they empty the upper reservoir through the plant, filling the lower reservoir. When there's less demand, the excess power from other generation systems is used instead to pump the water up into the upper reservoir, thus balancing demand with supply. The lower reservoir of this arrangement corresponds to Lake Pearl, which itself has its own newly constructed hydroelectric system emptying at Ingena. We'll get there later. Mew gets ahead of us and visits three waterfalls just downstream of Lake Diamond. They seem so much smaller nowadays compared to how they were before this huge construction! Mew: Nyyyyaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!! (Translation: Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!) Jenny Salisbury: Just how big is this facility? Supervisor: Lake Diamond has a dam that's 150 meters (490 feet) tall, the reservoir itself is 135 meters deep (440 feet), covers 1.98 square kilometers (490 acres) and stores 89 million cubic meters of water (72,000 acre-ft). With it we can essentially balance the power needs of the entire Kingdom, provided that we manage to get the power grid to reach all the communities. We can bridge power demand fluctuations of up to 80 megawatts, for up to a week, with Lake Diamond's output. Jenny Salisbury: My goodness, it sure seems you folks put the Royal coffers to good use with this! Supervisor: Absolutely! This will be the start of a massive boom of development in Rota. The clouds seem to be chasing us, as we just exited Lake Diamond and approach Lake Pearl, the lower reservoir of this hydropower complex. Meanwhile, Mew took the scenic route and reached the fourth waterfall downstream of Lake Diamond. It seems to be picking up flow as the rains of Lake Diamond drain along its river! Mew: Nyah-niau!!!!! (Translation: Another one!!!!) Lake Pearl is located in another river, but shares its waters with Lake Diamond through the pumped storage system. Even then, the supervisor tells us that Lake Pearl is deeper than Lake Diamond, but occupies a smaller surface area. The surveyors have yet to conduct a final measurement to rigorously assess the final dimensions of the reservoir. Mew helps us get another view just before rain gets in the way! Here we can see Lake Pearl's dam, the power lines coming down from Lake Diamond, four huge pipes emptying Lake Pearl's water in the outskirts of Ingena, our road and what looks to be an artificial stream. Queen Ilene: So what is the small artificial stream for? Supervisor: Ohh, Your Highness, that artifical stream is called a fish ladder. It forms a passageway for fish pokémon to bypass the dam and allows them to swim between Lake Pearl and the lower river. We're designing one for Lake Diamond as well, but the terrain there is much more challenging than here! Queen Ilene: Do fish pokémon use it already? Supervisor: A few, but once autumn fully arrives we hope to have a huge migration upstream as the fish gather to spawn their descendants. Queen Ilene: It's truly amazing to have these brilliant ideas in place to help wildlife in the Kingdom! As the supervisor gave us this explanation, Mew decides to obtain another view of the river downstream of Lake Pearl. It shows the penstocks in their full length, just before they cross over to Ingena. He also shows us the penstocks up-close: At different points, the penstocks cross significant obstacles and terrain irregularities, like this overpass we drive under on our way to Ingena. We finish our descent along the river valley as rain encroaches on us, meanwhile Mew seems to have spotted some fish pokémon swimming up the ladder! Mew: Nyau-nyau-nyau!! Nyah-myah, mewmewmyah!! (Translation: Up, up, up!! You can do it Magikarp!!) We now cross the county border to enter Ingena. And my, is the water flowing here deafening! The penstocks cross one last gorge on their way to the power plant. Jenny Salisbury: Just how much power can you get from this facility? Supervisor: Lake Pearl's power plant is designed to generate 120,000 megawatt-hours annually, we estimate it's capable of supplying most of the needs of the major cities, but by no means is it enough to cover all the demands of the Kingdom. We have been studying other options to increase electric power generation, as the community-run renewable systems aren't enough to support industrialization or a large commercial boom, in their current form. We feel particularly interested in the Geyser Canyon, we expect to find a promising geothermal energy site just south of Aldemar. Jenny Salisbury: The Queen and I will evaluate a formal proposal on the power needs and potential projects as soon as you make it reach us. Supervisor: Glad to know, you'll hear from us sooner than later. And now that we've just visited the dams, reservoirs and hydroelectric facilities of the Kingdom, we finally reach the Palace. We have some wonderful preparations going on for the Festival of the Guardian! Jenny explained me that those barge formations around the Palace are part of a new fireworks display. The fireworks technicians indicated that they did not want to risk a fire by launching them closer to the palace and its autumn trees, they also tell us that this year's display will be more spectacular than ever! We will need additional arrangements for the Festival: food, costumes, transportation, advertisement/sponsorships, competitions, emergency services, news services, sound equipment, decorations and many, many volunteers to put everything together! Expect to see some updates about these preparations and other developments of our Kingdom, stay tuned!!
  18. Finally! Got the third part of the town and village tour ready! Here it is for everyone to enjoy! Jenny Salisbury: Your Highness, my apologies for interrupting your breakfast, but I believe we have to provide another update about the Kingdom. Are we ready to resume the tour? Queen Ilene: Yes, indeed we are! And I think I know where we can stop once we finish, the remaining places will only require travel during the morning. Welcome again! We will now finish the tour of the towns and villages by visiting the southeastern settlements of the Kingdom: Ingena, Baden, Nida and Rockford. Our journey begins by heading towards Ingena, just south of the village of Primrose. Like much of Rota, Ingena is nestled in a narrow valley between the water bodies and the towering and lush mountains, which, more often than not, are shrouded in a mystical blanket of fog. Ingena is another sizable town, standing out in the landscape owing to its steep streets and making the best of a rugged topography. At the very heart of Ingena lay two notable features: the flower plaza and Ingena Fort. The fort is what's known as a King's House, which used to be the fortified seat of government and storehouse for the riches of the town. Nowadays it has become a quaint tourist attraction with a commanding view of the town and its landscape. Ingena's residents do enjoy dedicated health services, and as such, the bulk of their preoccupations have to do with educational services. They in particular want to have enhanced museum facilities for the town's attractions and past legacy. Other residents, meanwhile, complain about the lack of a more direct route to the village of Baden, to go from here to there we have to travel downhill, all the way to Aldemar, and then uphill again to reach Baden. This also means that one of the most wonderful features separating Baden from Ingena remains inaccessible, Ingena Falls. This waterfall forms from the combination of snowy peak meltwater and the humidity brought by the clouds and fog that blanket the upstream forests. Mew: Nyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! (Translation: Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!) Jenny Salisbury: Would you look at that! Mew seems to be in the mood for a dip in the waterfall's pond! Queen Ilene: I still don't get how he likes the water, especially one that flows so cold! While we left Mew to have fun at the waterfall, we made the tedious and convoluted trip from Ingena to Baden. Fortunately for us, Baden is a really nice place, making the extra travel effort worthwhile. Towards the end of this stretch of the trip, we go along another winding mountain road and reach Baden. This village sits atop a cliff, providing it with a very flat but otherwise constrained terrain. Baden was historically more important than Ingena, given its more defensible position and its access to the best forests in the vicinity. Many areas around it remain denuded or have languishing trees due to its timber-felling past. Much like Ingenans, residents of Baden also want improved educational services, a few more also want actions taken to restore degraded terrains at which forests once stood. Just above the village sits the Palace of Baden, which serves as my official vacation residence. It is noticeably smaller than Cameran Palace, as it is not intended to host grand events at a centric location. I normally retreat here during the periods in which the Kingdom prepares Cameran Palace for the Festival of the Guardian, as well as for when the festival is de-mobilized (the clean-up after the event). Jenny Salisbury: Mew seems to like this Palace quite a lot! Queen Ilene: That's because this one has better hide-outs, compared to the bustling Cameran Palace. Mew: Nyah-nyah-nyah!! Miu-mew, mew! (Translation: Ha-ha-ha!! Bet you can't find me!) Queen Ilene: After our stop at Baden we move further south, reaching the town of Nida and Rockford village. Jenny Salisbury: My, this fog is getting really dense! Queen Ilene: We might expect rain soon at this rate. The town of Nida looks really nice, and it also harbors an especially dense tree cover both within its blocks and its surroundings! Unlike Ingena and Baden, Nida has more flat and gently sloping terrain nearby, which would allow it to grow some more should population trends require it. The mayor of this town approached us asking about the possibility of creating a forest preserve for these densely forested areas. This has been motivated by the contrasting experience relative to Baden, which has not succeeded as much in protecting its natural habitats. We now head to the Temple of Flowers, the crowning jewel of this gorgeous place! Mew: Nyaaa!! Nya-mew-mew! (Translation: Hiiii!! Look at me instead!) Jenny Salisbury: Mew! Stop getting in the way of the tour! Mew: Nyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! (Translation: Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!) Queen Ilene: C'mon Mew, we're almost done with the tour! And did you just force the cherry blossoms to bloom? Anyway, we now head towards Rockford, the last stop of today's tour. Much like Brandt, Rockford marks the easternmost boundary of the Kingdom at the time of The Grand Commotion. Before the retaliation and peace treaty ending that war, Rockford used to be the closest reach of the Red Army towards our lands. And it's very clear why was it chosen as the ideal location for that very purpose! The village itself sits at a saddle between this tall snowy mountain and the most defensible hill, which protrudes into the flatter terrains of eastern Rota. The one big disadvantage of this location is that the rocky soils make for poor agriculture, and nearly all the usable land for crops has been planted intensively for centuries. Like many of today's residents and merchants, we opt for the gravel road across the farmland to reach the village more quickly. This place has a very tightly-knit community and a peaceful atmosphere, rather different to the era in which it was first established. Crowning Rockford Hill is Rockford Castle, one of the most impressive buildings of the entire Kingdom. I'm not sure we could call it a crown jewel, maybe instead it's the knight in shining armor of Rockford! Mew: Nyah-nyaaah!! Nyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! (Translation: For sure!! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!) Queen Ilene: Despite the castle's impressive silhouette reigning supreme over the land, this facility receives very few visitors. It may look okay on the outside, but the interior needs major renovations and some retrofits to make it into a tourist attraction open to the public. Mew? He doesn't seem to mind that the castle isn't quite ready for visitors. Queen Ilene: After stopping at Rockford Castle, we descend back to the village. Much like Nida, Rockford takes pride in its forests, they even have a tiny tract of the trees next to the plaza! Jenny Salisbury: Come back here, little mister!! Can't you see we're busy here trying to get feedback from the villagers and their needs!? Mew: Nyyaaaaahhhhh!!!! (Translation: You can't get me!!!!) Queen Ilene: Just let him be, we don't need him right now. Back to our tour, residents very much agree that Rockford Castle must be rehabilitated and turned into a prominent tourist attraction, they also think that an inn or small hotel could help boost the economy by allowing visitors to stay longer. After all, who doesn't love a landscape as scenic as this?! Jenny Salisbury: Your Majesty, if I may suggest a lunch location, I'd like us to visit the farmer's market. Apparently they have fresh ingredients gathered directly from the woodlands! Queen Ilene: That sounds wonderful! We shall continue our journey through the Kingdom of Rota after this delicious meal. Stay tuned for the upcoming excitement as we prepare for the Festival of the Guardian!
  19. Before we start, I want to thank @Silur and @89James89 for staying tuned to this project! I'll make sure it's updated regularly. Typical update schedule will be 2-3 entries per week, or if I'm busy, no more than 2 weeks between entries. Since this is a long weekend for me, I expect to have an additional entry by Monday. With that out of the way, let's go to today's content! ֍ TOWN OF BRANDT ֎ Queen Ilene: Welcome again! After visiting the town of Alba, we now move to the town of Brandt, which is uphill along a nice, winding mountain road. Brandt is the settlement corresponding to the westernmost reach of Rota. Despite its size and monumentality, it has not been formally re-classified as a city, even with its 33,000 denizens. Documents from the peace negotiations indicate that Brandt was stripped of its former city status as a retaliation for the invasion by the Green Army. You will also notice that the town is surrounded by a city wall, which itself has endured surprisingly well throughout the centuries. Even then, the war did damage it, as there are wall portions that have collapsed, and the two city gates facing east have been torn down. We first pass along the former Skarmory city gate, where the entire wall section was demolished: And then along the Ho-oh City Gate, where at least the damage is less severe: Perhaps the most lamentable outcome Brandt's architecture faced due to the war was the complete demolition of the citadel. Even the rubble left was removed and used for all sorts of other construction projects in the area, and over the centuries, grass engulfed the citadel's grounds. Nobles and other rich folk inhabit the Courtesan Quarter, and tend to extravagant gardens that don't quite match our region's climate. Meanwhile, right in the middle of Brandt, a combined effort of volunteers, rich benefactors and the city government have taken the task of completely rebuilding the plazas surrounding the Temple of Dusk. This facility is expected to include markets, gardens , promenades and gazebos, further exalting the most magnificent piece of architecture of the town! As we venture through the streets and contact the townsfolk, we got their input on needs and grievances. The most common wants include a restoration of the historical buildings and monuments, the establishment of higher education facilities and the re-designation of Brandt as a city. Some other citizens instead want to have parks built in vacant tracts of land in the outskirts of the city, as the renovations around the temple will take a lot longer to complete. One old lady also wondered about the possibility of adding additional access points to Brandt, given that the only two entrances suffer significant congestion from commuters who venture beyond the town's walls for their livelihoods. Jenny Salisbury: I'm not sure the Kingdom's coffers have enough funds for all of these requests. Brandtians are very proud folk, and seem very intent on rivaling the grandeur of Cameran, the capital. Queen Ilene: that may be true, but I believe the entire Kingdom needs major interventions for economic development. Depending on how the economic growth and diversification happen, we may witness an expansion of our tax base, and thus be able to afford numerous additional improvements, like those requested in Brandt. Jenny Salisbury: Don't overextend the budget, we need to ensure our government remains viable for many years to come! Queen Ilene: Now that we conclude our tour through Brandt, we continue along the mountain road towards the village of Balfour. It was next to it that the last battle of the double invasion happened, with so many Pokémon soldiers trampling the ground that it turned too hard and impervious to allow agriculture to happen. We are evaluating different strategies to restore the area, but the Royal Ministry of Natural Resources and Conservation has not come yet with a feasible plan. The portion of the village closest to Cameran still remains active with crops covering the better soils located along the river banks. Villagers here also suffer from a lack of public services, as there are no schools nor medical facilities to be found. After visiting Balfour, we then cross to the easternmost parts of the Kingdom, where we visit the villages around Wellesley. Our first stop is the village of Elaver, which neighbors Brixen. This tiny community also lives off the land, surrounded by a variety of farms and crops. As we continue further into Wellesley we then reach Perceval, which despite its designation as a village, is more of a ribbon development squeezed between a hill and the farm fields. Here they embrace a more simple way of life, taking pride in producing the most plentiful crops of the Kingdom. The village elders approached us and were wondering about the possibility of upgrading their dirt street to a road, such that they could export their produce more efficiently to Wellesley and elsewhere in the Kingdom. We continue along the winding dirt paths and reach the village of Scheel. This place has a beautiful temple in the circular grounds that act as the public space for Scheelites. Unlike Perceval, they do have a market and a more robust road connection towards Wellesley and Cameran, their worries instead have to do more with the availability of public services, especially telecommunications. Now that the village elders here mention it, Rota is very backwards with most telecommunication services, possessing a limited telephone coverage and a handful of radio stations! After exiting Scheel, we move on towards Primrose, the largest of the villages around Wellesley. Thanks to their proximity to the main city, they have some availability of public services, and instead feel left out on city beautification. A small girl approached us in sadness, as Primrose had no parks or gardens for the kids, pokémon and parents to enjoy. Jenny Salisbury: Your Majesty, it's getting late and I don't think we'll be able to complete our tour today. The roads leading to Ingena, Baden, Nida and Rockford are very twisty and steep. I believe we should return to the Palace before dusk ends. Queen Ilene: We'll have to, I just remembered that a lot of our letters come from those places, and they had extensive lists of grievances and unmet needs. I also noticed Mew has been awfully quiet during our tour. Jenny Salisbury: Relax, he's probably feeling tired from our long trip around the Kingdom and wants to rest. We should rest, too. Queen Ilene: Alright, this'll conclude our update today.
  20. Queen Ilene: Welcome again! This weekend I'll be conducting a tour to visit the smaller and humbler communities of the Kingdom! Despite absolute power being invested into my position, I always strive to keep in touch with my subjects, their worries and their aspirations. Hmmm....now where did Mew venture off? Jenny Salisbury: Oh, dear Ilene, you know how the little fella is: he gets bored easily and probably went off to wander elsewhere in the Kingdom. Although you might as well do just that! We still have the define the budget and policies for this year, and you can't do that unless you're informed of the people's needs! Queen Ilene: Let's not waste more time and head to the humble communities throughout Rota! We'll begin by visiting the two towns north of the Palace: Brixen, to the northeast... ...and Mayfield, to the northwest. These two towns are like twins, sharing essentially the same economy, landscape and view of our regal capital! From what I noticed on the way there, there's heavy travel between them and Cameran, the odd thing being that it's Cameran's residents who do the bulk of commuting to the farmlands of Brixen and Mayfield. Much like Wellesley, Brixen and Mayfield enjoy sunnier weather, their skies are dotted with white, puffy clouds that gently roll along with the breeze. Now we head south towards the outskirts of Aldemar. Despite this part of the kingdom being dominated by this city, Aldemar has two junior companions: the villages of Perceval and Naro. Just as we cross the border of the capital city into Aldemar, we go past Perceval: ...to then go through Aldemar's urban center, where the mayor took the opportunity to remind me of something extremely important. We have to conduct the next census! With that reminder fresh in the agenda, we move on and go past Aldemar's Floral Park. My goodness, is this place so enchanting! This reminds me, the landscape architects who designed it are the very same ones hired to design the four new parks at the capital, hopefully this will be a taste of what is to come. Jenny Salisbury: Your Majesty, I believe Mew just went ahead of us to visit the smaller communities. Queen Ilene: Would you look at that! He's thrilled as ever by the park! Mew: Nyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!! (Translation: Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!) We then venture to the southwest and starts to climb along the twisty mountain road, until we reach the village of Naro. Residents mostly cheered at our visit, but a few approached us with concerned faces. They worry about how the larger settlements are getting ornate public spaces and their tiny community remains neglected with no dedicated recreational areas. We continue along our path and descend into the Valleys of Silurum... ...and to our next stop, the village of Elusa. Elusans instead feel bothered by the noisy traffic and dangerous speeding vehicles dissecting their otherwise quaint home, the main road from Aldemar to Silurum indeed slices the community into two fearful halves. As we went along said road, we descend to the town of Silurum. Despite its ranking, Silurum sure feels urban with its small pockets of industry and a very domineering real estate company constructing just one apartment building model within downtown! Silurians appear mostly concerned about the architectural character of their town being lost to these cloned towers, they otherwise enjoy a more comfortable standard of living compared to the villages. Even with the looming towers governing the cityscape, Silurum boasts a multitude of small parks, the most visited of these is one block away from the town's schools: Mew: Nyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!! (Translation: Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!) Jenny Salisbury: C'mon Mew, don't go off collecting the kids' missing toys! You already have more than enough at the Palace and wherever else you hide them! Mew: Mew-mew? Mew-miw-miu, nyah-nyah-mew? (Translation: Really? You mean that kids don't just throw them away?) Jenny Salisbury: Yes, dear. Those toys belong to the kids! Besides, how are you gonna play with all of them if you keep hoarding more and more!? Queen Ilene: Anyway....we then head to the village of Osca, towards the bottom of the valley: Residents here also share the same worry as those of Elusa: non-local traffic keeps racing along their streets, but here the problem is a bit different: there is no main road around the village, and everything brought by it is dumped into their dirt paths. We finally reach the town of Alba. This place used to be the westernmost settlement of Rota, at least until the war that formed part of our grand historic commotion. During the ensuing peace negotiations, our Kingdom was expanded further west. I will tell you more of this in the second part of our tour! As for Alba proper, the townsfolk seem interested in getting new and better jobs, rather than being relegated to farming and small shops that have always been part of their livelihoods. The mayor here has approached us requesting royal efforts towards industrialization.
  21. Rota: Still peaceful 10 years after the grand commotion

Welcome to the first day of our adventure! Today Mew and I want to tell you of what's been of the Kingdom ten years after the dramatic events that once unfolded on this land. We're not quite ready to share the events that did unfold back then, but we do want to give you a nice tour of the main locations around Rota. Since the passing of the last decade, Rota has experienced considerable growth, back in the day, even Cameran was a fairly small town, but it has grown dramatically to 51,000 inhabitants! As the situation stands now, I have been in long discussions with the head of the Royal Governance Committee, Jenny Salisbury, on which policies to implement on behalf of our subjects and citizens. Despite the dramatic growth trends in the last years, especially the doubling of population to 217,000 inhabitants, she insists on keeping things as traditional as possible. Unless we change course, I'm afraid the otherwise predictable future of the Kingdom might become unacceptably uncertain. But before I can enter in-depth with these, let's take a look at the main communities of Rota. ֍ CITY OF CAMERAN ֎ Even during sunny days, Lake Crystal has a dense cloud cover, so we're lucky to get an aerial view as nice as this one! At a lower altitude, you can see our beautiful palace, the crown jewel adorning the lake. We're transitioning from summer to autumn, and as such, the trees of the Palace's island start to dress in exquisite bronze and gold attires! We're getting ready to celebrate the next Festival of the Guardian, and everyone throughout the city has been really busy making the last preparations. In the city, we have planted the main roads with these gorgeous flowering trees, but we're also building four new parks to embellish the landscape and give a higher quality of life to our proud subjects! We have also inaugurated some monuments at the pivotal points in town, here we have the Monument to Sir Aaron: ...and the Monument to Lucario ֍ CITY OF ALDEMAR ֎ We now move to the city of Aldemar, formerly a non-descript village that has grown to be a considerable suburb of Cameran! Aldemar now houses nearly 43,000 residents, and enjoys a very urban atmosphere. Much like Cameran, Aldemar experiences very cloudy days, and even foggy ones! Due to the lower restrictions for land use and building architecture, the more affluent citizens have preferentially moved to Aldemar and have established a nascent central business district and a modest industrial park. I must say, this city has a wonderful, even if unorthodoxly modern charm! Although its tremendous growth has started to get in the way of quality of life. As the night establishes itself, the skies clear up considerably, and make for a soothing landscape of rest and relaxation. Despite its growth, nightlife has yet to take a hold and the city thus looks fairly dark between dusk and dawn. Miuuu! Miumiu meeww mew-mew! (Translation: it's so fun to see the buildings light up!) ֍ CITY OF WELLESLEY ֎ We now move to the city of Wellesley, the other major suburb adjacent to Cameran. Thanks to its position just beyond a large hill, the cloudiness that develops in Lake Crystal does not reach it, providing wonderful sunny and clear skies! Much like Aldemar, Wellesley has grown considerably, but has remained more true to its bucolic character. Highrise blocks have been slower to develop, and a larger share of the residents rely on agriculture, fishing and traditional crafts for their livelihoods. Wellesley also places great importance in its religious beliefs, they never cease to impress me with how neat they keep their temples, and how magnificent their plaza looks! Nights very much feel the same in Wellesley as they do in Aldemar, both the outlying villages and the main urban area light up dimly once the Sun goes to sleep. Unlike Aldemar, Wellesley's urban area is less sheltered by small hills and it gets chilly even during the summer. Now as we start autumn, even moreso! That plaza of theirs holds such a mystical charm once the sun sets, doesn't it? Miu-miuuu! Miu-mew-mew? Nyah! (Translation: That's for sure! Is it my turn yet? Really please!) Alright, Mew, you can also show around your place! Mew-nyaaahh!! (Translation: Yes, at last!) ֍ TREE OF BEGINNING ֎ Nya-nyyaa!! Mew-mew-mew, mew-muiuiu! Nyah-mewmiu! Mew nyayayah mimiu, mumiumiu mew! (Translation: Hiii!! This is the place I call home, the Tree of Beginning! Here I play with alll my pokémon buddies, and the occasional few guests too!) Nyah-nyau, miuiuiuiuiuiuuuu! (Translation: And here's my toy collection, lots of fun to have with these!) Mew-mewmuw, mewmew-nyah nyayayyayah miu-mew. Mauh-mauh, mya-niu! (Translation: and if we stay up at night, we can see those weird shiny buzzy lights in the sky! Man, I'm tired, time for bed!) Thank you for coming, and make sure to follow the latest developments of our Kingdom!
  22. Pokémon: 20 Years Later

The first Super Bowl ad has been unveiled and announces a new Pokémon release for 2016, called Pokémon GO. At the same time, a website recaping 20 years of Pokémon is online [link]. It seems incredible that, at least, 16 years have gone since the times I duelled with my elementary school friends via the link cable... Pokémon meant a true revolution for kids like us, who found a different way of having fun besides football and playground games. Pikachu, Hypno, Nidoking, Venusaur, Mewtwo... My first Poképarty. Those really were the days. Feeling nostalgic like me? Tell us more!

Greetings, Finally finished the johto region excuse for the delay but I had a few drawbacks, this region of Pokemon Gold, Silver, Crystal and their remakes Heardgold and SoulSilver Pokemon. I concede that this is one of my best works but I did my best as this region is very mountainous east, and as I do not use terraformer because'm somewhat distorted. but left images to evaluate the appearance. also place a few hills to distinguish them from the landscape routes, in addition to using soft mountains near the towns. punctuation is not great but I hope I will continue working to bring the kanto region the next look. thanks for stopping by, and I leave my other regions.
