  1. Once again, something virtually useless for you bored folks. Hmm, what if the normal advisors in SimCity 4/3000 quit their job? If Mario was going to be an advisor, what would he advise? Perhaps Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, etc? Basically, which characters would be advisors and what advisors would they be? I'd be fascinated to hear what you guys come up with!

  3. Recovering Nintendo's Lost SimCity for the NES

Recovering Nintendo’s Lost SimCity for the NES by Frank Cifaldi December 25, 2018 A lot of you are probably aware of Nintendo’s remarkable rendition of SimCity for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The cartridge launched alongside the system here in the United States, and brought the popular PC game to a brand new console audience. But did you know that Nintendo’s version of SimCity actually started life on the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System?
  4. A very interesting article (and some video) about a version of the first SimCity that was almost released on the first Nintendo console. https://gamehistory.org/SimCity/ Good read!
  5. Pokémon: 20 Years Later

The first Super Bowl ad has been unveiled and announces a new Pokémon release for 2016, called Pokémon GO. At the same time, a website recaping 20 years of Pokémon is online [link]. It seems incredible that, at least, 16 years have gone since the times I duelled with my elementary school friends via the link cable... Pokémon meant a true revolution for kids like us, who found a different way of having fun besides football and playground games. Pikachu, Hypno, Nidoking, Venusaur, Mewtwo... My first Poképarty. Those really were the days. Feeling nostalgic like me? Tell us more!
  6. Official statement There was already a post about this in the obituaries thread, but I think it warrants its own topic because Mr. Iwata was such an influential man in the gaming industry; you'd probably be hard-pressed to find one gamer who hasn't been affected in some way by this man's work. Iwata passed away on July 11th due to a tumor in his bile duct. He had served as president of Nintendo since 2002, and during these years he introduced the Nintendo DS, the best-selling handheld console to this day, and the also highly-successful Wii, which pioneered the use of motion control in video games. Most recently, Iwata announced the company's plans to produce games for tablets and smartphones in partnership with DeNA. Alongside these accomplishments, Iwata also played a big part in the everyday goings-on of Nintendo. Stemming from his background in computer science and his experience as a programmer for HAL Laboratory, working on popular games like the original Super Smash Brothers, Earthbound, and Pokemon titles, Iwata was personally involved in the development of Nintendo's products. He became the face of the company through his involvement in Nintendo Directs (videos detailing upcoming products and news), which he helped to create, his interview series, Iwata Asks, his participation in E3 press conferences, and in other marketing and public relations roles. Fans know him for his playful and sincere personality in his appearances, and for the humor and simplicity that he instituted in Nintendo's recent presentations. From watching this year's E3 Digital Event, in which Iwata and other company leaders are turned into Muppets, you can tell that he did not take himself too seriously, and he brought this same attitude to Nintendo, a refreshing change in the often too-serious game industry. In the end, Iwata always knew that video games were about having fun, and he brought that fun into his company and into the lives of its consumers. Personally, I have Iwata to thank for countless memories in my life. I became a gamer because of the DS and the Wii, my first consoles. From the games he developed to his appearances in media, he really made being a Nintendo fan fun in the years I have been following the company's products. It's because of him that I have been introduced to so many great series. He will truly be missed. If you have your own thoughts or memories of Mr. Iwata and his contributions, feel free to share them here. "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer." - Satoru Iwata
  7. Splatoon

Splatoon is an upcoming (May 29th) third-person shooter game being developed by Nintendo for the Wii U. The game revolves around squid-like humanoid creatures, called "Inklings," who can shoot and paint ink, which they can then swim through, in order to cover terrain and defeat enemies. The game has two modes: a single-player campaign mode and an online/local battle mode. In the campaign, players take on an army of octopuses, called "Octarians," while platforming through various levels, solving puzzles and earning prizes along the way. In local battles (Battle Dojo), two players compete to pop the most balloons. The real focus of the game, though, is on the online battles. Turf War pits two teams of four players against each other, both trying to cover the most territory before time runs out. In Splat Zones, the goal is to keep designated areas under control by defending them from the enemy team's ink. More online modes will be added, among other features, in free updates after the game is released. Players can customize their Inkling's appearance and equip gear that improves certain stats. Furthermore, battling online earns points that allow players to level up and coins that can be used to buy things in the game's main hub, Inkopolis Plaza. Overall, Splatoon is a really unique shooter game with a colorful visual style and a lot of character. This is an old trailer from E3 2014, but I think it provides the best overview of what the gameplay is like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L54s2m1dPs If you want to know more, Nintendo recently released a more in-depth analysis of the game in this video. Also, you could watch footage of the recent Splatoon Global Testfire or visit the game's website. Additionally, another online demo is happening this weekend on Saturday (5/23) from 3:00-4:00 pm PT. What do you think of the game?

  9. Majora's Mask 3D for 3DS Confirmed

It's official! In a trailer released today, Nintendo announced Majora's Mask 3D, a remake of the original Nintendo 64 game made for the 3DS. Fans of the Zelda series have awaited a remake and many have speculated that one has been in the works from hints made by Nintendo. The game is set for release in Spring of 2015. Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hj6cXziHpjQ&feature=youtube_gdata I for one am really excited for this game. As a person who has just recently delved into the amazing universe of The Legend of Zelda, I didn't think I would ever get a chance to play this title, which is considered by many fans to be one of the best due to its darker story line. Seriously, I nearly wet myself when I saw this - plus all the Mario Kart 8 DLC goodness in my YouTube subscriptions.
  10. Bayonetta 2 is the follow up to the critically acclaimed Bayonetta. Bayonetta 2 was originally scheduled to be an Xbox 360 and PS3 game, until Sega canceled it after the money they lost on Bayonetta 1. Sega then canceled all the games they were working on with Platinum, letting Platinum go. Then in 2012, Nintendo desperate to get a critically acclaimed mature game on Wii U, decided to buy the game and the series out right from Sega. This act is seen by gamers as an act of treason. They regularly still post their outrage on social media and on gaming sites. Gamers are still upset that Nintendo "stole" this game from gamers and are still demanding that Nintendo make it multiplatform. Others have started petitions to force a government body to intervene and save this game from falling into "casual" and kiddy hands (much like they did over the Sonic Lost World exclusive deal). Some have called this, the greatest tragedy in gaming history. The game launches this October in the West and comes bundled with the definitive version of Bayonetta 1(It has exclusive content) for $60 Do you believe or still believe Nintendo stole this game from gamers? Do you believe something should be done to return this game/series to gamers? Do or did you wish harm on the developer over this game (many did)?
  11. 3DS Friend Code Exchange

I thought there would be enough 3DS owners on here to warrant a topic like this. We have a community for the Wii U, so why not one for the 3DS? As the title states, this is a place to share your friend code so we can all register each other as friends on the 3DS. You can also post the games you play and your Mii's name, if you wish. Mine is: 0387-8913-8755, and my Mii's name (and real name) is Evan. I have Pokémon Y, Mario Kart 7, and New Super Mario Bros. 2. Happy friending!
  12. Today is that very special day in July when Nintendo announces the year end gifts to their loyal customers. Those who reach Platinum are offered a choice of gifts exclusive to them or they can choose from one of the gifts offered to gold members As tradition has it, there is a massive backlash for whatever gifts Nintendo offers to their North American customers. This year the hated offerings are: You only get to pick one! Last year was: The limited issue Majora's Mask OST (which also caused a massive negative backlash as well, because many platinum members thought it wasn't good enough). What is Club Nintendo? It is Nintendo's customer rewards program that varies by region. You net points buy registering games (1st party only on WiiWii U) and systems. Reach 300 points, you become gold member (year runs from July 1st - June 30th) Reach 600 points you become platinum member for that year (year runs from July 1st - June 30th) Gold and Platinum status gifts are only for Japan and North America. How many of you are up in arms over this year's elite gifts? What gift are you guys planning to get from the list?
