Hi all, Recently, my Windows 7 PC suffered a power surge during a severe storm in Sydney in November. After that, it wasn't working properly anymore. I brought it to a very good technician who fixed it by installing Windows 11 and now my PC works fine since the installation. But all aspects of SimCity 4 Deluxe was removed and I went to install the CR-ROM version of the game which i have had for ages into my new system. After installation, the game did not start at all. I'm trying to uninstall it altogether. Hopefully after I shut down the PC and I start it up later on, it won't be there. It seems like the case of an old version of SimCity 4 Deluxe from 2003 into the new and current system of Windows 11 which is not likely to work out. Would I just be better off just buying the digital version from Steam and installing it in whatever way so that hopefully it will start in Windows 11? Any tips or help is appreciated. Cheers.

SimCity 2000 GoG version - how to change the tile set?

Hello, I started playing the older SimCity games and really enjoyed Sc3k, now I wanted to try the even older version (SimCity 2000) because I really like these old school visuals. Then I found out that you can change the tile set for your buildings. Somehow though I can't find a way to do that, online it says in the main menu you have the option but I can find it there. Then I read that you can find the option when in a loaded city but there isn't an option either. Is this not possible in the GoG version of the SimCity 2000? I bought Sc3k there too but there it works to change the graphics of buildings.- 2 Replies

Seeking help installing plugins on GOG version of SC4 Deluxe

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere but I wasn't able to see anything similar on other posts. I'm running the GOG version of SimCity 4 and I'm trying to install two plugins (NAM and SC4 Fix) but neither seem to be appearing in-game. I've run the JRE file in the NAM mod without issue. Any suggestions on a solution would be much appreciated. Thanks! -

Question about Steam version vs. GOG version

Hey everyone! A quick thought that I hope someone can help me with - when it comes to SimCity 4 Deluxe, and with including mods and custom content, which version would you guys recommend more... the Steam version or the GOG version? Which one is easier to work with, including downloading mods and custom content? Any and all help is appreciated!! Thanks so much!! -
Hey there. OK! So, I recently got back into the game (having played a bit back in the day), thanks largely to a YouTube channel called Rob's Red Hot Spot. Getting things set up properly, navigating the NAM etc has been/continues to be a challenge (talk about a steep learning curve!), especially since I'm a Mac user playing via BootCamp, and I find the whole Windows environment... counter-intuitive, let's say. Also, YouTube guides to mods/features are typically years out of date. And, uh, the search functionality here seems... well, it appears to be useless. But, I was doing OK - or I thought I was. Now, however, I've discovered I can't get DLL mods to work. I've just downloaded/installed three - Submenus, 3D Camera and Region Thumbnail Fix - and no dice. It's as if they're not actually in my Plugins folder. And yes, I have the required 1.1.641.0 version of the game (from GOG). Oddly, I previously installed two other DLL mods - SC4DBPFLoading and SC4Fix - and I know the latter at least is working, as the taskbar icon says "SC4Fix r7". So, I don't get it. My guess would be that another mod is causing a conflict, so here's what I currently have in Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins (I'd love to take a screenshot, but trying to figure out how to get a screenshot out of that bloody Clipboard thing had me wanting to throw my laptop at the wall): Maxis Original NBVC garbage (a folder I created to move some SC4Lot files out of the top directory) NBVC_GarbageProps Network Addon Mod Nuclear plants (again, I created this to clean things up a bit - it contains three DAT files from a Nuclear Plants mod) PEGPROD (contains four subfolders, _Resource, CDK3, MODs and Refuse Relocation Kit) submenus (contains submenu-essentials.dat and some subfolders, also containing DAT files) Cap Lifter.dat IH_census_10_78_12.dat Locales.dat Mayor_Sign_Menu.dat memo.3dcamera.dll memo.submenus.dll memo.thumbnail-fix.dll OperaHouse.dat SaveWarning_Disable_Exit_Quit.dat SC4DBPFLoading.dll SC4Fix.dll UI_Compact.dat Maybe there's something glaringly obvious to seasoned mod users or even just the average Windows 10 user that I'm overlooking. I'd appreciate some advice! (I also encountered another issue when experimenting with the NAM's Flexible Underpasses yesterday - which I suspect is entirely unrelated, but you never know. I found that when deleting subway-based roads, I couldn't always get every tile to delete, and then, when modifying the terrain, I'd get a crash to desktop. Since I'd saved after creating the test underpasses, I wound up having to vaporise the city to resolve the problem! No biggie, since I hadn't got that far with it, but still.)

I've just got back into SC4 after a long time away. I'm playing it on my laptop, which is running Ubuntu 22.04. The game is the GoG version and it was running fine up until about half an hour ago, when I decided to switch from using PlayOnLinux to run the game, to Lutris. I added the existing install to Lutris, and pointed it at the .exe that I believe PlayOnLinux used, as the .exe in question was a patched version from having run CAM (I think). I started the game via Lutris, and it ran fine but my custom content, including both regions and plugins, were gone. So I switched back to PlayOnLinux and to my horror, my content was still nowhere to be seen... it was like a completely fresh, vanilla install. Thankfully everything is still there in the /Documents/SimCity 4 folder. I suspect that the wine prefix is not using the SimCity 4 folder in my documents folder but rather using the one in the install folder, or some other location. Does anyone know how I can fix the issue please? -

Migrating existing content from Disc-based SimCity 4 to GOG install

The planned obsolescence hammer is about to come down on my still perfectly functional Windows 8.1 PC, so I'm being forced to update to Windows 10, and with that, my ancient disc-based copy of SimCity 4 will presumably stop working (due to the well-documented lack of SecuRom support). It's been well-documented here that the best path to keep running SimCity 4 is to buy the GOG.com release, which I've done (only $4.99 right now!), so thanks everyone so far for the tip on that... but now I'm puzzling over how to actually carry out migrating 15 years of saved games to a new install using the GOG.com build. Is it just a matter of installing it and then simply dumping in my plugins folder and saved regions? Or is it a whole lot more complicated than that? What tips and tricks, or known gotchas, do folks have to share for moving from a disc-based SimCity 4 installation to using a GOG.com distribution? What have you done to succeed in keeping all your previous stuff intact? -

Download your GOG games offline as standalone installer files, without GOG Galaxy. This can be useful to ensure one has a source copy, as opposed to relying on the GOG Galaxy client or other download managers. For those who are interested in purchasing SC4 from GOG (or might've done so already), it's an important consideration. It makes certain the game is downloaded in its purest form as Maxis intended, without any other superficial software layers to otherwise complicate matters. I've made a video which shows the exact process for how to do this from your GOG games library: (In future I might make some more SC4 and site related tutorials too.) This explains the steps to obtain the offline installer for SC4 and also other GOG games you may have. Most games should allow this (including SC3000 and SC2000), although there might be some which are an exception. Once you've obtained the installer file for any given game, it'd be a wise move to make a backup copy on your local storage media in more than one place. An example would be on flash drives, or ideally a more robust method of storage such as an external HDD separate from your computer. Hopefully this helps to clarify and might come in useful. -
I've noticed that there are plenty of standard lots (residental etc) missing in Lot Editor. Can anyone explain why and what to do about it? After that, I'd like to find out how to change max residents on a lot. Some are way over-populated, and the neighborhood architecture doesn't fit well with the population size and/or density. I have Windows 10 and bought SC4 on GOG in spring 2020. The game works just fine and so do numerous mods. I haven't used LE except for checking out what I can do with it, only to find out that probably half of the standard lots are missing.

Currently I have a Windows 10. I bought my first 10 in early 2019 and then a new one in early 2021 after the first one broke down. It was mad slow from the beginning actually, could barely scroll Facebook and Instagram. This second one has worked just fine. It also went just fine running SC4 on both computers (besides speed on the first one), and then transferring all my data from SC4 from the first to the second, after I bought SC4 at GOG in early 2020. Now I've been given the option to install Windows 11 on this computer, all for free. There's only one problem really: Is it possible to run SC4 on Windows 11? Is it possible to transfer current SC4-data (cities, regions, mods etc) and keep running it on Win11? Or will I have to start the whole game over, or even worse, won't I be able to run the game at all? Does anybody know about this? Does anybody have any experience of this? Windows 11 is brand new I know. That's why I'm sceptical that SC4 will work on it, or that anybody has experience of whether it does or not.

-Hi to all friends Here is my problem.......i have uninstalled everything and download again the game from GOG.. I made the installation with the setup_simcity_4_deluxe_edition_1.1.641_hotfix_(25621) file , and added the game in folder C:/GOG Games/SimCity4 Deluxe Edition ...from there i started the game and everything seems ok , but .......it seems that by the installation added also a user profile into C:/Users/ÁÍÔÙÍÇÓ.....like so in the picture ... inside this user name folder are Documents / SimCity4/Plugins folder.... can pls someone help me why this happened? thanx -

soooo, i might have installed steam SimCity 4 version and regretted, the gameplay was extremely laggy and i couldnt sync with my GPU, i was wondering if the GOG version of the game would be better to tweak those configurations since is DRM free , also is there any way to get the game running faster on my laptop? i have a predador helios 300 from 2019 running on windows 10 fully updated, RTX2060 6gigs GPU, i7 9th gen and 16gigs of RAM, also i couldnt get my game to run with Directx since there is no way to get a launcher to work with steams version i guess, anyways im a noob when it comes to those kinds of things so dont judge me, anyways if someone could help me i would appreciate :))

Hello, I was wondering if all the official addons for SimCity 4 are included in the version for today's Windows 10 machines, like GOG offers. I already asked on their community, but with no success. Yes, I'm referring to those in the bottom of this wonderful community site. E.g.: the "Transportation pack". And furthermore: is this the same as the Air Force Base? TIA for any suggestion, it would be appreciated. -

I purchased SimCity 4 deluxe from GOG and its "almost" working. i don't know diddle about how to properly do dependencies and such. i know i need NAM and i have NAM 39 now. i put it in the plugins folder but it will not function. any assistance would be really appreciated. love this game and want to play it again.. been gone a long time.. i have windows 10 on a PC.. sorry about that.. but it is what it is. hope you can teach an ignorant old fart how to properly install and manage his stuff.. -

I would like to get NAM, but I am not sure where to install the 4GB patch first. Where with the GOG SC4 do I apply it? I would greatly appreciate any help!! Thanks!

[Solved] Game Crash Exit Without Save to Region (GOG version)

Hi All, hoping one of you technical experts could possibly shed some light on a rather-odd CTD issue I'm having. Background I just downloaded the GOG version of the game (my CD-Rom drive went kaput after giving me 15 great years). The CTD did not occur until I "switched over" to the GOG version (I had no issues when I was running SC4RH from the CD). I didn't do anything else to my computer or plugins folder since making the "switch". Issue: Crash to Desktop (CTD) after pressing "Exit Without Save" to Region View. Test Results: CTD only occurs when exiting to region. If I save (via CTRL-S) prior to exiting, I am able to load my City back up after re-booting the game. It seems to happen when I plop a Building or Lot. E.g. If i open a City and plop a Landmark, Airport Lot, or something else, I will get a CTD after I hit CTRL-S, then try to Exit Without Save back to Region View (it doesn't make it to the Region View). However, if I plop a road piece, Save (CTRL-S) then Exit Without Save to Region View, it'll go back to the Region w/o any issues (no CTD). Hello everyone. Due to the lock down in our city, I have returned to playing SimCity 4. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find the game CD, so I downloaded the game from GOG Galaxy. I have not figured out how the content I download link to the game. I haven't seen anything I've attempted to download in the game. Any suggestions on how I can overcome this issue? -
Hello everyone. I am looking to repurchase the game. I have the disc version of the game, but to my disappointment, It seems to not be working correctly. I have tried multiple ways to fix the problem but nothing seems to work. Luckily, I have enough simoleons to go around. So purchasing a digital form of the game is my next step. As you might've guessed I am looking to purchase from a source that will allow me to correctly update the game, mod it, etc just like the regular disc version. I know STEAM and GOG have it. I would like to hear everyone's take about the best way to continue my fun with this game,as I have played it since launch in 2003, yikes..... Thanks in advance.

Hey there I am new to the forum. I have been playing SimCity 4, and found out about the NAM mod and installed it to try and make the game better. I purchased it through GOG. It is the updated version of the game. Again I have already been playing the game before I installed NAM. However, after I installed it, I could no longer open the game. The play button is now greyed out. I have Tried opening the game directly from the exe. from inside the installation folder to no avail. I tried running it in Admin mode, and tried troubleshooting compatibility as well. It seemed that the launcher had lost track of the exe. at first, but then I would be able to open it directly if this was the case. Any help would be appreciated.
