Need help with sc4pac
NeveroddoreveN replied to NeveroddoreveN's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Alrighty, sounds like a plan!! I will work with the links you included in your post, figure out what will work and what will not. As per your suggestion, after I am done with those downloads, I will hop into SimCity 4 and see how it turns out!! I am so excited, it has been eons since I played a SimCity (the last one I actually got into was SimAnt, and that was a long while back too), and that said, this game will be a whole new experience!! I am sure SimCity 4 Deluxe will be much different than any other Sim game, I know that it will be much more complex than SimCity Classic, but that's part of the fun!!! If I have any problems or issues, should I post them here in this thread or in the problems section at the main screen of this website? -

Thanks, CorineMarie!! To respond to your post, I will do them in segments... First, as for the environment sites you mentioned, I took a look at them, and have one question - those links lead to more complicated mods, is there a one-in-all link for each (terrain, beach, etc.) or would I have to download each mod individually? Second, I will most certainly look into the Age Degredation!! Also, with the "player vs. painter" situation, I am like you - I figure I am a mixture of the two titles. Is there anything else I might want or need to download before I dive into the game? I do remember that there were a TON of downloads on sc4pac, though I haven't looked at them in great detail just yet. I am so excited, but I want to make sure the game and it's downloads are all taken care of before I dive in!! I really appreciate your help - but not just yours, for everyone who has provided guidance, information and patience! -

Hey there, CorinaMarie! Thanks for your response! How do I find and download NAM Lite? As for the other downloads you mentioned - Terrain, Rock, Beach, Water and Side Water - I am hoping I can find those on sc4pac. And I am supposing the Age Degradation mod would be nice. What did you mean by "managing cities and regional play"? I totally get running a city, and from what I gather, when you said "regional play", the player can link up multiple cities to interact. Am I correct on this? It's been a LONG time since I have played SimCity (the classic version, quite a while back), so I am pretty much starting out fresh, and am so excited to dive right into SimCity 4 Deluxe!! Oh, and what did you mean when you asked if I am game player or a city painter? I am not sure what you mean. Please explain!! Thanks so much for your help!! If there is anything else you can recommend for a newbie (me), please let me know!! -

Side note: For clarifications sake, with my last question, I was asking about what "optional" mods are recommended from the Guide and sc4pac. -

Sounds good! I just finished downloading the second section of the Ultimate Guide - Gameplay Enhancement List and Performance/Graphics List - and have been perusing the Network Addon Mod List. From what I am seeing, the remaining mod downloads, starting from Network Addons, seem to be optional, depending on the players opinion on how detailed they would want SimCity to be. Its quite a bit to swallow, I wanted to ask you guys if I am correct on this. Also, I went on sc4pac to see what I could find, and actually was not that surprised to find that there are a TON of downloads there. You guys kinda eased me into it, which I appreciate. Seeing as how I am a complete newbie to this game, I am not entirely sure what to think about the sea of mods to pick from. What would you guys recommend "mod-wise" beyond the Gameplay Enhancement and Performance/Graphics List on the Ultimate Guide and the vast amount of mods found via sc4pac? -

So, I am sidelining a few downloads, and aside from them (DgVoodoo2, Transparent Texture Fix and Region Thumbnail Fix), everything else in the "Performance and Graphics List" has been downloaded and installed. One question comes up though - so, with the "sc4cpuoptions" and "sc4GraphicsOptions" links, I am done with the installation but on those two pages, both have a paragraph about editing a file to adjust the settings. I opened the respective files with Notepad, but I am not sure what I am supposed to do there. Can someone fill me in on what I need to do with the text in these two files? Also, once this part has been taken care of, I will move on to Gameplay Enhancement - the second on the list for the Ultimate Guide. If you guys have any advice and/or suggestions, please feel free to post them on this thread. Thanks!! -

Sounds great! I get your point about the naming convention for the sc4pac files and how to download them in general. A few download links are taken care of!! As per your suggestion, I will sideline the Colosssus Addon Mod for the time being. I was able to create a bit of time that I could devote to getting these downloads set. I really do appreciate your post about what files/downloads in the first set from the Ultimate Guide are worth actually utilizing with where I am now. I perused that list, and have chosen to sideline a few for the time being. Anyway, off I go! I will try and find sections of time during the week that I can point towards more downloads. I still have a long way to go, but I am glad I have taken these first few steps. -

Thanks for your help, and for suggesting the Colossus Addon Mod!! I just installed SC4CPUOptions.dll and SC4CPUOptions.ini into my plugins folder. Not nearly as daunting as I had imagined. If I can find the time, I will work on the next Ultimate Guide link either later today (maybe) or sometime this week. It seems downloading and installing the next set of files would be a similar process like what I just completed. And I appreciate your providing an option that will speed up the process of getting this game running!! btw, what files does the Colossus Addon Mod provide? -

I am entering SC4CPUOptions.dll and SC4CPUOptions.ini (separately) but nothing is appearing in the sc4pac search engine. Not sure what I am doing wrong. -

Got it! I did not know about the 4GB patch being separate from the Plugins folder - thanks for providing the link!! And you said that both SC4CPUOptions and SC4GraphicsOptions are available on sc4pac - thanks for that, what other downloads are on sc4pac? I will keep working on this, and when you have the time, I will review the next few download tabs in the Ultimate Guide! -

I appreciate your patience!! And your help is really appreciated!! So the first three downloads that I am having a problem with are the first three in the first link (Performance and Graphics List). For the first download (4GB Patch), I assume the patch goes into the Plugins folder, but I might be mistaken. And with the next two, the description talks about removing files from the Plugins folder and copying two other files. That sounds pretty straightforward, but where do I download those new files to place in Plugins? For first of the two - SC4CPUOptions - I need two files ( SC4CPUOptions.dll and SC4CPUOptions.ini), and the second of the two - SC4GraphicsOptions - the two files I need are SC4GraphicsOptions.dll and SC4GraphicsOptions.ini I really hope this is not too confusing, if you need me to explain anything a bit further, I would be more than happy to provide it. Thanks so much!! -

Thanks for getting back to me!! I really appreciate your taking the time for responding and also for taking the time to iron out the first two links in the Ultimate Guide!! The biggest problem I have right now is where to put some of these downloads. I worked on this a bit when I had the time, and quite a few instances the page will explain what to download and where it goes. That said, some of the terminology is a bit over my head, but I am doing the best I can. With the first link, there are a few sub-links (if that is even a word) that simply download a file but do not clearly explain where the download goes. Or at least I am just not seeing it. I feel like such a newbie with this whole process, but I am adamant on getting this game completely installed - I had such a great time with the original SimCity and am very excited to get SimCity 4 Deluxe up and running!! My time for setting up all of this is rather limited, but then again, it's limited for most things. -

Got it. Thanks for your help!! When I spoke about what folders downloads should go in, I was referring to the links from the Ultimate Guide page. I do understand that sc4pac will put those mods in the appropriate folder. What I am working on now is getting the downloads/links from the Ultimate Guide squared away - downloaded in the right folder. A question does come to mind - in the first two links on the Ultimate Guide page, there are quite a few files to download - there looks to be some text above the links, but I am not quite sure about what I am reading. I don't know a whole lot about computers (I guess you could call me a jack of all trades), so I am not quite sure where those files will need to be placed. -- Edit: Many of the guide's links have instructions that are simple to understand, so no worries there! The first link on the guide says to uninstall certain mods and replace them with new updated (I guess) versions. I am a bit unsure what to do there. Most of what the guide instructs me to do is fine, if anyone could help answer this situation, I would be very appreciative!! Also, going back to the Ultimate Guide, there are links that appear to be patches for SimCity 4, but I am not sure if they are necessary for getting the game to run at an optimal level. Can anyone please shed some light on this? Any and all help is appreciated! -

Hey everyone!! So, I have been looking through the different downloads on the Ultimate Guide, I see that some of them are obviously necessary - for example, performance and graphics mods and game play enhancement mods. The others don't sound particularly vital, but hey, I am not an expert by any means. I am trying to plan my next step in updating SimCity 4 Deluxe, I assume I could do what I can with what I see listed. (I am a bit apprehensive with this process.) Also - and this might broadcast my naivety - I wanted to make sure I am putting these downloads in the proper place. Should they be placed in a certain folder? I am so excited to play, but I also don't want to make any mistakes setting this up. Any thoughts on this situation? Thanks in advance!! -

Thanks!! I wasn't sure if I should just open the Ultimate Guide and go down the list, downloading everything displayed, just to cover my bases. And I assume that would be a tedious process. I would absolutely love to have this game up and running soon, but I do not want to jump the gun and have some catastrophic problem occur that bricks the game. For what I said about going down the list, if that is the best way to cover my bases and get me playing, so be it. If you guys have another suggestion, I would be more than happy to hear about it!
