An old SC4D Player back for the 20 Year Anniversary

I'm an old SC4D player & long time Simtropolis member from over a decade ago, haven't played in all that time, but have returned. I'm back visiting today for the 20 year anniversary of SimCity 4. I actually played the original SimCity, 2000, 3000, & more. Its nice to see so many familiar Member Icons here, and the STEX looks stable with new things added even. I always loved customizing my in game music, correcting game bugs with plugins, and adding beautiful new items to the game. I looked to see if anyone produced a new game that rivaled or topped what SC4D has always been, but after app store and web searches, it doesn't seem so. (TheoTown for Mobile devices is the closest, and even then, graphics are lacking, game play is limited, but its nice to see someone at least trying in this area - so shout out to them.) Overall, I have been pretty disappointed in phone app games, so I rebooted my old PC today which still plays SimCity Deluxe w/Rush Hour (after a hack to fix the annoying DRM bug Microsoft hit us with to break the Run from Disc). I'd like to try playing it again, even if its only an hour a week on Sundays. I love that it doesn't require online access, no one will come steal your stuff or destroy this game's city, there are no pesky ads or features begging for credit card payments, and the custom (STEX) downloads are amazing, not to mention I can go back to writing my own plugins if I want something that no one has made yet. So now I'm hoping to hear from you guys on a few things. And while I may only reliably visit this site on Sundays for my free hour of game time, I'd love some answers and help to get back up to speed here. Questions: 1. GAME - Is there ANY new City Building Game better than SimCity 4 Deluxe now in 2023? (whether from EA Games / Maxis, or someone else) 2. ESSENTIALS - Are there any MUST HAVE (but safe) essential UPDATES (or new things) on the STEX that I should grab before diving back into this game? (IE: NAM update, etc?) I used to maintain a thread here entitled Essentials to help new players, but being gone a decade, now its me who needs the help. 3. COMMUNICATION - What is the best way to communicate with fellow Simtropolis members here? This Forum? I found Simtropolis on Discord, but it seems that permissions lock me out from talking there - maybe it has been deprecated. Or maybe an Admin can help me with that, if its still a valid thing. 4. REFERENCE - I have and always used the SC4 Deluxe Prima's Official Strategy Guide, and kept various lists, notes, and spreadsheets of my own with information and reverse-engineering info to help build with best knowledge of the game's mechanics, tips, and yes even all the cheat codes for those 'special cities'. What are the best/new reference docs used today and where can I find those? I hope all of you are doing well, and I look forward to connecting with some old friends if any are still here. If I can get the 4 items resolved above, I'm likely to stick around, and bring SimCity 4 back into my life, even though it will be a much smaller part. I welcome help from anyone here, and look forward to making some new friends along the way. Perhaps this thread will not only help me, but can help other long-time players returning to the game, who find it here. Thanks! - Cougar2004 -
Hey there I am new to the forum. I have been playing SimCity 4, and found out about the NAM mod and installed it to try and make the game better. I purchased it through GOG. It is the updated version of the game. Again I have already been playing the game before I installed NAM. However, after I installed it, I could no longer open the game. The play button is now greyed out. I have Tried opening the game directly from the exe. from inside the installation folder to no avail. I tried running it in Admin mode, and tried troubleshooting compatibility as well. It seemed that the launcher had lost track of the exe. at first, but then I would be able to open it directly if this was the case. Any help would be appreciated.

I started with SC4 and CS around Christmas. I was a tired old wargamer looking for something different, sophisticated, ... not requiring hours of strategy and planning ... I picked SC4 and CS as what appeared to be the best two options in the genre. I don't consider Tropico and Caesar... as city builders. They are hybrid games. Well, I was wrong. I have read enough articles about game mechanics and real city planning ... that this hobby rivals war gaming. It is not beer and pretzels gaming. I was curious for what reasons do people play this genre? I now see it as a a lot more than just painting with a PC. (my first impression) I now see it as more than a dynamic painting; meaning that on its own it evolves and changes. I now see it as more than just a game of growth problems and challenges. I felt that traffic, growth, ... were gaming challenges to be solved as density create new strains and stresses. My current view of this hobby is table top modeling where the model is alive. Similar to trains or dioramas or battle miniatures ... --- Now the reason I am asking. I am not sure city builders are for me. I have been fascinated learning about them and looking at the mechanics behind them (my career had been systems design; so I love software and games). But I am not sure that I am modeler. So, here I am in the middle of a dedicated community of folks who love these games. I wanted to know: How do you play? What do you find in it? The Cities Skylines British Challenge

Hi Guys, I have set myself a challenge to recreate the most realistic looking British feeling city. I have started with a small town and my first challenge was to create some realistic farms and fields. I would appreciate your feedback on how this went.. Next I will move onto a small British town with some traditional British looking street layouts, moving onto a large City with the likes of typical British themes Football stadium and surrounding Terrace houses. Simcity 2012 Residential and Commerical Problems

After actually managing to get onto a SimCity sever and playing a couple hours of the game I came across a problem that I really do not know how to fix. My City was doing great, but then took a turn for the worst. I have all high wealth residential zones,alot of them, and I have high wealth commercial zones. For some reason my residents are complaining about nowhere to shop, while the commerical zones are complaining about having no shoppers. Im baffled as to why this is, I have bus transport and opened up a train station to no avail. Idk if this is a bug or what but its making lots of vacant buildings and its also annoying me. I don't get how my commerical lots could complain about no shoppers while my residents are complaining about nowhere to shop, it doesn't make any sense. If anyone has a solution or help of any kind, it would be much appreciated. Thank you. -
Good Night. I've been thinking in a plan to make a revival of SimCity 3000. The revival will be composed by cities and buildings made by the members of Simtropolis. The final objective of this revival is make a file with all the buildings and cities from the users, as an anthology of these files. I'll waiting your opinions and ideas.
