INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION MOD Wally K's Distribution Center by SimGoober 1 - INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW Okay, so here's the second of the "twin" buildings made by Simgoober. The sixth upload in this series, Wally K's Distribution Center by SimGoober, is pretty much the same building as the previously uploaded TSC Distribution Center, just in a different colour and, logically, with the Wally K's logo attached to it. Therefore I simply recycled the lots, too. Given the large footprint of these structures, I guess they shouldn't grow all too often anyway. Since all Maxis lots contained in the IRM Base Pack could optionally be used with toroca's Industrial Jobs Quadrupler, this download is offered in two versions: a regular one for those who prefer the default job numbers, and a quadrupler-compatible version for those who prefer using the modified stats. The .sc4desc files for the regular version will look like this: IRM_[Filename].sc4desc The .sc4desc files for the quadrupler version will look like this: IRM_[Filename]_x4.sc4desc After downloading, simply delete the file of the version you don't want to use. If you leave both in your plugins, the quadrupler version will most probably override the default version. The default version of the building will provide 68 I-M jobs, the quadrupler version 272 I-M jobs. The following lots are included in this download: 6x7, Stage 3 8x6, Stage 3 For those of you who like to play with day and night view, the building used on this lot is compatible with the following night light mode(s): Maxis Night with gradual day/night cycle: YES Maxis Night with static day or night: YES DarkNite* with static day or night: YES *DarkNite requires SimFox' Day and Nite Modd (or a similar darkening mod) to be installed in your plugins. 2 - USE If you extract this archive to your root plugins folder, it should create a folder IRM\IRM Expansion\[NAME OF BAT], where [NAME OF BAT] represents the name of this download item. Within that folder, you will find all the game-relevant files and a sub-folder containing the HTML readme and some screenshot(s). If you no longer wish to use this download, proceed as follows: Bulldoze all lots pertaining to this download Save all the cities and exit the game when you're done bulldozing Remove the associated files from your plugins folder Hint: Just to be sure, I recommend moving the undesired files somewhere else and doing some checks before you delete them permanently. This way, if it turns out you forgot to bulldoze something, you can add it back in temporarily until you're done. 3 - DEPENDENCIES IRM Base Pack with all its dependencies - while these lots will technically work, they are meant to tie into the IRM. They may look out of place and show unexpected behaviour if used independently. Since this is an extension to the IRM, all the dependencies of the original pack still apply. If you have them in place, you can download every single growable IRM and IRM W2W lot I have ever made and will never have to download any additional packs for props and textures used on the lot. Wally Ks Distribution Center - you'll also need the original upload of the BAT to see the building(s). Only the .sc4model file is required. NOTE: For any dependency hosted at SC4Devotion (SC4D in short), you must be registered on that site and logged into the site's download area, the BSC File Exchange, in order to see the download button. Please bear in mind that there are separate logins for the forums and for the file exchange. INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION MOD TSC Distribution Center by SimGoober 1 - INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW I'm happy to present the first of a set of "twin" buildings made by Simgoober. The fifth upload in this series is TSC Distribution Center by SimGoober. This rather large warehouse distributes parts and supplies for the Tractor Supply Co., of which SimGoober has also made a retail BAT. Originally a 6x6, I made the lots somewhat bigger once again because I wanted to have sufficient space on the lot for trucks to drive around (especially since there are loading doors on two sides) and for some employee parking. It was particularly interesting to lot around the main entrance and the right-hand side entrance, but the smaller doors out in the back also opened up some nice possibilities to add a few footpaths. It's been too long without a STEX upload from you (of all people, I should be talking ), but this is what I call coming back in style! This little jewel should be very useful, especially since it's not so huge and visually overpowering that it looks like an iconic landmark you'd only place in one city of your region. Good to see you again, man!

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION MOD Peterson Tool Specialties by DK1 1 - INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW Finally I'm starting the next instalment of IRM uploads! This will be a series of 15 uploads dedicated to modern manufacturing industry. The first upload in this series is Peterson Tool Specialties by DK1, not to be confused with an identically called and even visually similar building by RJM Design! I like it for its sleek and modern design, the blue colour, and the various loading bays and entrances scattered around the building that I tried to complement with a corresponding lot layout as best I could. The building has some breathing room around it and features mostly open side and back edges so it can be complemented with mech & out lots rather than standing alone. Of course, using the IRM filler to turn it into a somewhat secluded standalone structure is perfectly possible, too! The default version of the building will provide 48 I-M jobs, the quadrupler version 196 I-M jobs. The following lots are included in this download: 5x4, Stage 2 5x5, Stage 2 For those of you who like to play with day and night view, the building used on this lot is compatible with the following night light mode(s): Maxis Night with gradual day/night cycle: YES Maxis Night with static day or night: YES DarkNite* with static day or night: YES *DarkNite requires SimFox' Day and Nite Modd (or a similar darkening mod) to be installed in your plugins. 2 - USE If you extract this archive to your root plugins folder, it should create a folder IRM\IRM Expansion\[NAME OF BAT], where [NAME OF BAT] represents the name of this download item. INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION MOD Quetz Isoprenes by HunD88 1 - INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW Today I have the honour of presenting the final IRM I-HT upload (for the time being), the next uploads will be manufacturing industry. The 40th and last upload in this series, Quetz Isoprenes by HunD88, contains an entire phalanx of lots (16 in total) because HunD88 was kind enough to provide a bunch of individual BAT models that can be assembled to various lot configurations - a possibility that I gladly took advantage of! I had a blast lotting this one, although it's been a lot of work, too. Once I had a general theme laid out, however, I kept recycling familiar elements to ensure all individual lots would share enough common features even though I did my best to make each and every lot unique. Some of the lots are really plain jane and generic, others are more intricate. You'll find everything from small single-building lots to large complexes in here. As a special bonus, this download also contains some "mech" lots that may grow adjacent to other I-HT anchor lots and will hopefully help to bring some more variety to your high-tech areas. Even if you have the IRM anchor lots blocked using my IRM lot blocker, these "mech" lots (pumping facilities and tanks) will be able to grow and complement those anchor lots that are not blocked. The default version of the building will provide 10-70 I-HT jobs, the quadrupler version 40-280 I-HT jobs. The following lots are included in this download: 2x3, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprenes 1 - small building x1), 15/60 jobs 3x2, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprenes 1 - small building x1), 15/60 jobs 3x3, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprenes 2 - small building x2), 25/100 jobs 4x3, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprenes 2 - small building x2), 25/100 jobs 3x5, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprenes 3 - small building + tanks + pipes), 25/100 jobs 4x4, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprenes 3 - small building + tanks + pipes), 25/100 jobs 3x3, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprenes 4 - larger building), 25/100 jobs 4x2, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprenes 4 - larger building), 25/100 jobs 4x5, Stage 3 (Quetz Isoprenes 5 - small + large + tanks + pipes), 50/200 jobs 5x4, Stage 3 (Quetz Isoprenes 5 - small + large + tanks + pipes), 50/200 jobs 5x6, Stage 3 (Quetz Isoprenes 6 - small + large + 2x tanks + pipes), 70/280 jobs 6x5, Stage 3 (Quetz Isoprenes 6 - small + large + 2x tanks + pipes), 70/280 jobs 2x3, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprene Tanks - tanks x1), 20/80 jobs [MECH] 5x3, Stage 2 (Quetz Isoprene Tanks - tanks x2), 40/160 jobs [MECH] 1x4, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprene Pumping - pipes x1), 10/40 jobs [MECH] 2x4, Stage 1 (Quetz Isoprene Pumping - pipes x2), 20/80 jobs [MECH] For those of you who like to play with day and night view, the building used on this lot is compatible with the following night light mode(s): Maxis Night with gradual day/night cycle: YES Maxis Night with static day or night: YES DarkNite* with static day or night: YES *DarkNite requires SimFox' Day and Nite Modd (or a similar darkening mod) to be installed in your plugins. 2 - USE If you extract this archive to your root plugins folder, it should create a folder IRM\IRM Expansion\[NAME OF BAT], where [NAME OF BAT] represents the name of this download item. Absolutely no commercial desirability, all red
T Wrecks replied to supergaga's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
It might indeed be an overflow issue: Some cheat lots use such excessively high values that they cause a counter to overflow and tip over into the negative. Since the problem seems to affect commercial desirability and a property that is known to influence commercial (but not residential or industrial) desirability is the Landmark effect, my money would be on a cheat lot that has a ridiculously high landmark effect. The problem is, the lot may not be obvious. It could theoretically be a blank, open, nondescript 1x1 plaza lot that has some really wonky stats under the hood. It will probably not say "This is a super cheaty cheat lot that will boost commercial desirability to insane levels" in the description. Nonetheless, if you're lucky you might be able to think of a few lots that are more suspicious than others. I'd guess all growable RCI stuff should be safe.- 10 Replies

Just to exclude the easy fixes... Have you downloaded the dependencies in the readme, or rather, did the links from the readme still work? In the case of older assets, they may point to single dependencies that were retired from the file exchanges and merged into larger mega packs, so the links may be outdated. Since these lots are based on PEG's stuff, the PEG MTP Super Resource Pack might be a file worth checking out. It should contain all of all PEG's MTP props and textures.

Tbh, I'm not impressed. Your last ships looked better than this turquoise thingy. But seriously, it will be tricky to arrange the lighting such that the surface ripples are accentuated and make the surface look like organic water, but without giving away the edges of the individual texture tiles or making the pattern repetition too obvious. This most recent attempt should be a considerable improvement over the predecessor, I should think. Keeping my fingers crossed for ya! @korver: I know your pictures tend to be in a league of their own, but that volcano shot is just ridiculous. Show it to anyone not familiar with SC4, and 90%+ will say it's an aerial photograph and never suspect it to be from a computer game, let alone a game that old. Amazing!

Whoa, I totally misjudged the footprint! Okay, at 1x2 / 2x1 it's not a wonder that it ends up packed with details. So many architectural elements on such a tiny space! As for the variations, I... I guess I can live with that. Perfect!

Hey, don't mention it. That's just what I meant: This is what a community is for. I'm glad you'll continue to be with us! Turns out I didn't understand you correctly at all, but the result is what matters: The problem got solved. Stupid virus scanners! Well, at least it's an easy fix once you think of it... still better than some obscure OS problem.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with PIM-X at all. I simply create a suitable lot using the good old vanilla Lot Editor. "Suitable" basically means I delete everything, add only the desired building, and fill the tiles with any base texture, then save. Then I note down the exemplar ID for the new building exemplar, e.g. 0x12345678. In the next step, I open the lot in iLive's Reader and delete all the LotConfigProperty... lines with 16 reps (i.e. the building, the props, the base and overlay textures). Then I copy these properties from the old lot over. The only problem at this point is: I have now copied over the exact lot design, but the line for the building still points to the old .sc4desc / building exemplar. So I enter the line and replace the last hex value with the exemplar ID of the new building. This means that all positioning information (orientation, X/Y position) remains in place, but the game will use my new .sc4desc. Then I re-index and save. So far this process has never failed me. If you'd like to try it out but my description was too rushed and unclear, don't hesitate to say so, and I'll see if I can whip up some screenshots.

Tariely's Little Shop of Relots (and lots)
T Wrecks replied to tariely's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
To add to what Matt said, if you're stuck with gmax you also need to face some bugs because some light types simply don't work (was it Omnis?) and others can be tricky because it's easy to get so-called "light leaks" where a light shines through a wall or ceiling that's supposed to block the light. As a result, you may end up with a building where the sides of rooftop HVACs are illuminated by the interior light of the building, which is obviously not intended - the light simply "bleeds" through the ceiling. If you look at older gmax BATs, you'll see many examples of this. I, too, appreciate night lights a lot because it's a wonderful view in game and sets a great mood - be it a rural scene where only some small homes are lit and the neon signs of a service station dominates the view, or an urban scene that literally makes the city shine. -
Yeah, I'd suggest keepin the properties where they are because this makes any subsequent edits easier. The structure is actually pretty logical: The lot file holds all the visual information - what building and which props and textures to display at which position, orientation, and elevation? What lot size and max/min slope? Where does the road need to be so that the game knows which side is supposed to be the front? The desc file holds all the techical information - how many jobs/occupants, what tilesets, how much power/water consumption, how much pollution, which query UI to display and query sound to play, and so forth. This structure makes it easy to tweak and re-purpose buildings and lots. For example, let's say you want to turn a static landmark into a hospital, but would like to keep the lot: Simply make a new hospital .sc4desc, put it on a new dummy lot with the correct size, and then delete all visual properties of the dummy lot and copy the ones from the old landmark lot over - and bang, you're done.

Oh, it's cellos. I first mistook this for a case of unnecessary violins. The building is really cool, though. I haven't yet made up my mind as to whether I like it because of or in spite of that wall decoration, but I guess that proves the building has some character. As for that NYC building, the small SC4 scale makes the building appear to be even more detailed than the original! The 3x2 size will make it very versatile and useful, too. By the way, particularly because we don't have that many buildings for the Chicago 1890 tileset, have you considered making some basic colour variations à la Aaron_Graham? I feel that this goes a long way in making the inevitable repetition less obvious. Just asking, of course - this BAT is a 100% download anyway!

Oooh, this is a particularly good one from you IMO. The textures go together really well, the building hits just the right balance between typical, generic shoebox store architecture and some recognisable features, and the lot complements the building perfectly. To top it off, the building and lot size will integrate well into the game even for people who use little custom content and for whom some of the huge custom retail lots will look out of place in a vanilla-dominated environment. Great job and thank you for uploading and sharing it with us!

Ah, that sucks. Don't you want to make an attempt at solving your problem, though? Tbh, I have some trouble following your description. Did I understand you correctly? SC4 ran fine Then you re-installed Windows When you wanted to use your existing SC4 again, it didn't work any more Does this summarize what happened? If so, the solution might be simple if we are lucky. Having the game on your HD is not enough; Windows must also "know" that SC4 is installed. This is stored in the registry. This information may have been wiped out when you reinstalled Windows. So you'd simply have to re-install and patch SC4 again (you can keep your plugins and regions folders, of course!). Sorry if I misunderstood your problem. If that should be the case, please don't hesitate to describe it again. We're a community. We are here to help.
-
Well, I dunno if I count as a maximalist, but I do know that I appreciate additions to the Chicago 1890 tileset (into which this building fits perfectly IMO) because it seems to be the tileset with the least amount of content while it contains architectural styles that I happen to like very much. I really dig the combination of multi-coloured brick and arched windows for some reason. Sometimes the result looks like an "urban mansion", sometimes almost industrial, but I almost always like it. Therefore, I'm looking forward to seeing progress on this one in particular!

All I can say is that it pretty much blows the Maxis version out of the water! And it's sure something that hasn't been done so far (at least not to my knowledge). Should open up interesting possibilities for creative CJers, too.

Whoa, that's a surprise for me indeed. Yup, it sure looks like the LOD box itself is perfectly centered in relation to the grid, but the model is not centered in relation to the LOD. Still, it should be possible to use cogeo's Model Tweaker application to get the vehicles to play nicely - only that, given the circumstances in this case, you'd have to position the props based on the 3D lot viewport in the Lot Editor and the LOD boxes would end up slightly offset. Of course, this solution is a bit of a kludge, but if AndisArt doesn't have the time or motivation to re-render all this stuff, it is at least something that can be done.
