Built in 1988 on Eldridge and Division Street in Chinatown, New York, this six-story complex has two apartment buildings that rise above a 45-degree angular podium consisting of run-down restaurants, shops, and mediocre law offices. The podium's deck is also an accessible terrace with a design that allows for a decent view over the streets of Eldridge, Forsyth, and Division. This complex has 4 versions: - Maxis Night (SD) - Dark Night (SD) - Maxis Night (HD) - Dark Night (HD) (If you're not sure which one to download, choose the Maxis Night (SD) version. Chinatown Road, Avenue and Pedestrian Lane Canopies, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- One of the things that is quite difficult to achieve in SC4 is roads and areas of a city tile that convey a 'sense of place'. In almost all cities and large towns the main shopping streets, cultural precincts and prominent thoroughfares usually have their own immediately recognisable style; whether it is from architecture or street trees and street furniture. That is the genesis behind this series of canopies: to denote a stronger sense of place at street level while being functional. This first set of canopies is based on the typical displays of red Chinese lanterns, dragon imagery and symbols that are found in the so-called 'Chinatown' areas of cities. The red lanterns cast a striking glow at night, the canopy is made in such a way to enable moving sims and automata to be visible through the bracing and your street lights and street props will also be visible underneath the canopy. There are 3 lots in this download, and each is functional. * A road-top bus stop. This lot occupies a 1x1 tile and is overhanging so that canopies can be placed adjacent to each other all along the roadway; * An avenue-top bus stop. This lot occupies a 2x1 tile and is overhanging so that canopies can be placed adjacent to each other all along the avenue; * A functional pedestrian-only laneway. This lot is 1x4 tiles long and must be joined to the road/street network and/or the NAM ped-mall pieces. --------------------------------------- IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING POINTS: * While road-top/avenue-top bus stops can be safely placed next to a commercial building without any issues, they cannot be placed adjacent to a residential lot or you will get a no-car-zot. This is limitation of the game and I cannot do anything about this. The exception to this rule is where the residential lot is wider than the road-top bus stop: so for instance, if you place a 1x1 road-top bus stop next to a 4x4 apartment block, the apartment block will be fine, but if it is next to a 1x2 row house, then the row house will abandon because of no car access. * The functional pedestrian laneway is NOT a ped-mall; it is simply a pedestrian enabled lot. If you connect two of these lots directly together, SIMs will be unlikely to cross them (that is why a ped-mall piece is used to connect lots). --------------------------------------- The bus stops are found in the misc transit menu and have a capacity of 50,000 (and support all types of vehicles: pedestrian, bus, car, freight). The pedestrian laneway is found in the Landmark menu and provides a few jobs. --------------------------------------- STATS PEDESTRIAN LANEWAY: Lot size : 1x4 Bulldoze Cost: § 40 Plop Cost: § 100 Capacity Satisfied: CS§ 4, CS§§ 3 Pollution: 1 (Air)/ 1 (Water)/ 4 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 5/6/0 Power Consumed: 1 Mwh Water Consumed: 4 Gal/Month Occupant Group: Medium Wealth CS; Landmark --------------------------------------- STATS BUS STOP: Lot size : 1x1 (Road), 2x1 (Avenue) Bulldoze Cost: § 10 Plop Cost: § 150 Jobs: § 2 Capacity: 50,000 Pollution: 1 (Air)/ 1 (Water)/ 1 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 1/1/0 Power Consumed: 1 Mwh Water Consumed: 0 Gal/Month TSEC: 0.02 Monthly Cost: § 5 Occupant Group: Transport, Bus, Strikable Transit, Bus Stop, MiscTransit --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: There are two model files in this download. Sun Moon Mall, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- This is my own version of the SunMoon Mall from the SC3000 Asian Tileset and is designed to fill the gap in the lack of larger CS§§ buildings available. The cluster of buildings on this lot is designed to look Asian, but will also fit in with Western Style cities and is redolent of a small chinatown district which is found in every city. Such districts are often located close to the city centre in old Victorian buildings that are re-purposed as shops and restaurants. This set of 3 buildings (two from the Victorian Era and one from the mid 20th Century) replicates another rare commodity in SC4: narrow, bustling laneways. In real cities, small laneways are very common. Due to the 16m wide network constraints in SC4, it isn't really possible to recreate busy, tightly packed buildings and narrow pedestrian thoroughfares, so this is the next best thing, and I do plan on making a few more examples of this sort of arrangement in future. The building is offered as a CS§§ growable on a 4x4 medium and high-density lot providing 468 jobs. The benefit of having this size is that it easily upgrades to skyscrapers as your city grows, or, you can make it historic and allow the city to develop around it. Note: the two Victorian-era buildings are available for separate download on sc4devotion.com (obviously without the Chinese liveries). --------------------------------------- STATS CS§§: Lot size : 4x4 Growth Stage: 4 (Medium and High Density Zoning) Bulldoze Cost: § 513 Capacity Satisfied: CS§ 1,864, CS§§ 468 Pollution: 17 (Air)/ 11 (Water)/ 23 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 5/6/0 Power Consumed: 38 Mwh Water Consumed: 451 Gal/Month Building Style: Euro/Chicago/New York/Houston Occupant Group: Medium Wealth Commercial Services Building --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: Select the appropriate file from the download. Hey there, it's been a while. I was building up some stuff for a new season of CJ entries but my hard drive went wonky. Past few months have also been pretty busy. Not sure what the future of Ionica is right now. I want to continue, but I fear I can't be as dedicated to it as I once was. Anyway, I have a couple backlog entries to share with you. Lets reminisce on a calm summer's eve. This is a remake of my Chinatown tile, also known as Walden II. Wanted to have some wider shots but those got lost with my hard drive crash. Enjoy. Comments, suggestions, and questions are always appreciated. Thanks for visiting. Belfastsocrates: I love how you create your marinas, they're gorgeous. The night-time photoshop work is excellent, it really enhances the look and simple things like reflections add so much. Thanks. The photoshop work is almost a bit of a curse because I can't go without it now and it can be time consuming. kelistmac: Great photoshop work in your pictures ! Great job as always Glad you enjoyed it. Makes it worth the effort. tankmank: Another lovely update, i like the temple, it doesn't seem too at odds with the modern surroundings. Thanks tank. gviper: Simply love looking at the marvelous urbanscape! The lights and effects are (as always) so provocative and soothing... Hey gviper. I aims to please. Thanks. MissVanleider: The entire east half of the Roman empire couldn't be bothered to learn latin, and spoke and wrote in greek for a thousand years, so the temple has a totally consistent name The marinas and the water in general is almost a bit too good, because it stops me looking at the city itself. The night shots are very Abu Dhabi, and some of your clever placement of the seawalls is going to be copied ruthlessly... Copy away. Thanks. kschmidt: Awesome work; Atlantis like temple island; lovely downtown skyscraperland, marina and riverfront very well scenarized, well done! Yes, Atlantis! Something I've dreamed of creating in SC4 for a long time, but this will have to do for now. Thanks. tariely: It's... very red !:-))) But an interestingly anachronistic idea. I love mosaïcs 2 & 3! The way the road follows the banks, the little marina... Hah! Yeah I boosted the reds to make them pop lol. Glad you enjoyed those roads. I find having to re-build forces me to make more creative decisions with them. heartless: M, The marina, the adjacent park, the underwater mmp work...gorgeous! Stunning work here, building placement, the flow of the urban landscape...very inspiring, allow me to pick my jaw up off of the floor. A masterful work indeed. Best, H Thanks H. Glad you were inspired. Hope your floor was clean. raynev1: ^ What they all said , Really good looking entry . Photo editing and all. Hey raynev1. Thanks. LexusInfernus: Eh the Romans borrowed a lot of stuff from the Greeks, so why not naming conventions either? Anyways, love the way you made the little temple island with the modern bridges. Im curious though. First, how do you make the water look so gorgeous, in particular the underwater flora? Second, whats the building that seems to hang over the highway? Because that looks awesome! I guess the name isn't such a big deal after all. The underwater flora is all about laying down the mmps in layers, much like you would do on terrain. I start with the rocks and do some basic patterns, then I draw around them with the flora. I forget where I got some of them. I'll try to source it when I get a chance. The building on the highway is bixel's Raised Transit Park. feyss: Nice pictures, the underwater MMP and your photoshop skills are great (and thanks for the advice, never though about it before) It's one of those simple things that are easy to overlook. Thanks. Terring: Oh boy, that's so awesome! Thanks T. takemethere: That's a killer skyline both day & night and all those effects you put in make it seem like your using a new kind of night mod. Any chance you might know where you found the sidewalk mod your using, I love the constancy of it. I've always enjoyed the moonlight look of Maxis Night, but I think it's too blue so I tweak it in post and add yellow to counteract it. The sidewalk is just the Maxis default, but I think my photo-editing makes it brighter and whiter. Schulmanator: Awesome stuff... I am always glad to visit scenic Ionica! Thanks for your continued support Schul.

LIAOJIANG DISTRICT, BRISTOL, WASHINGTON COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Welcome to Liaojiang, Bristol's famous version of Chinatown. Established in 1857 simply as Bristol's Chinatown District during the Gold Rush era of California, and became a high populated area of Chinese coming from the slowly failing Qing Dynasty of China, in hopes of a better life. Cities on the west coast like San Francisco, having Chinatowns, the trade city of Bristol's was constructed for those that couldn't find room in SF's Chinatown. This Ming-Qing style of architecture gate and wall set was constructed during the 1880s as a way to sign the area seperate from Bristol, as during this time the city had the room to build the once distant district, into it's own little 'city' with walls surrounding most of it. Though with the main train station constructed in the 1930s in Chinatown, it became more decorative than actaully roping it off from the city. The gates now give entrance into Sun Yat-Sen avenue, which was constructed in the 1940s during the Kuomintang Era, which will be explained more soon.. Sitting at the end of Sun Yat-sen Avenue, is the main gate into the Tang Dynasty architecture styled palace, which is called the Gate of Eternal Peace, which what the Kuomintang Nationalist Party of China had the idea of. Peace for Chinese, Americans, and the whole world. Behind the iconic gate is the now, Nationalist Museum of China, which is owned and operated by the Kuomintang Nationalist Party of China, who currently is a leading party of Taiwan and established the Republic of China in 1911, after overthrowing the Qing Dynasty of China. Though, after the Chinese Civil War, the Kuomintang was exiled to Taiwan by the Communist Party, who established their Maoist one party dictatorship in mainland China. Leaving them to ruling Taiwan, and Bristol became a major area for KMT Government officials working in the mainland to escape to. Leaving a deal with the city, county, and California governments. That the KMT could take the Chinatown district, as a safe haven to them, with 'autonomy' from city and county level. Leaving that they are exempt from city ordinances and county ordinances. Leaving the district to become revitalized under the KMT's own district council, who is connected to the present day Taiwanese government. So in the 1950s, the palace was built as a consulate to the RoC and the USA, on conditions that the land and buildings remain controlled by the district council. Though, the council and district is not allowed to have a separate judicial system, and Bristol law enforcement still has power in the district. Though, the council has security gaurds who have powers similar to police in the district. Though as said, all judicial matters must be in power of Bristol and Washington County. When the USA switched allegiances to the PRC (Mainland China) in 1972, the KMT and Liaojiang council transformed it into a museum of Chinese heritage, bringing in actual artifacts they saved from the Cultural Revolution of Mainland China, to put in the National Museum in Taipei, and the Nationalist Museum of China in Liaojiang. As well built is the Liaojiang National Hall , where during celebrations indoor celebrations are held with traditional chinese music, plays, etc. As well as often traditional chinese plays and shows are held. As well as concerts with traditional chinese music, dancing, and often food. The National Hall keeps alive the ancient chinese culture that Mainland China lost during their Cultural Revolution. Most of the original Chinatown was torn down in the 1940s-1980s during the KMT's revitalization of the district. Old 1890s-1930s city buildings were torn down in the 1970s-1980s for more modern shopping buildings that would be seen in Taipei. As a way to reflect this as a miniature Taipei instead of being your typical Chinatown with normal American buildings just with Chinese signs. The KMT, went all out to make sure the city looks as close to Taipei, and Taiwan as the KMT could get it. As seen in front of the historic Chinatown Station built in the 1930s. One of the last buildings built during the old era. It was preserved due to a small clause the KMT put in saying that this train station, out of all the buildings must remain to show remnants of the past Chinatown. Today, the station was renamed to the Liaojiang-Bristol Train Station. On Sun Yat-sen Avenue, Taipei styled shops are down the avenue, and then major towers such as the Oriental Resort, which is a prominent 5 star hotel and resort on the avenue. The Kowloon Terraces on Palace Avenue is a historic 1950s building home of the Liaojiang District Council, where district ordinances are signed. Modern skyscrapers like the Aurora Hotel, tower over the district, giving it a more unique skyline to the rest of Bristol. Behind it is the replica of the Sun Yat-sen memorial, which remains a welcome center of the museum and the entire district. It was originally a welcome center to the consulate and it's palace design and history. A overview of Liaojiang, showing it's close proximity to the city's downtown district. The Bristol district show's its unique culture and style from it's typical American city districts.

This next city is a bit weird. It has a European-style CBD but also a Chinatown and a ton of dirt roads. (The Chinatown grew randomly, but I decided to expand it.)

Although Asian cultural influences can be seen all around Ionica there is still one place everyone lovingly refers to as Chinatown: the Fenghuang (Phoenix) Street Market in Walden II. Every side street is packed with activity and the odor of food, good and bad, attacks your nose from all directions. This is the southern entrance of the Fenghuang Market, it is generally considered to be the front entrance of Chinatown since it faces Sao Sing Sa park but others consider the North side the entrance because it faces the street with a tram line and station. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter it just gets a bit confusing when you make plans to meet at the front. (All of the photographs in this entry are taken by me.) Streets in downtown Ionica can get pretty packed but they are nothing like Chinatown where it so full of people you're practically walking shoulder to shoulder with the person next to you. The north gate of Fenghuang market on a rainy day. If you didn't bring an umbrella just pop in the nearest 7/11 and buy one, or wait it out one of the famous tea houses (I recommend Pavilion of the White Peony). Even the alleys are filled with little shops that sell all kinds of cheap knock-off bobbles and trinkets. It feels just like Hong Kong. The brown Kowloon-style building at the top left of this image is one of the oldest buildings in the area and inside you can still find one of the best, multi-Micheline star winning Dim Sum restaurants: Drunken Immortals (4th floor). The market gets even busier at night when business man and women come looking for some food and entertainment, but don't worry there is plenty of that to go around. Jenny's food cart around the corner from the Apple store sells some of the best Korean food in all of Ionica. Order anything and you are guranteed to be satisfied. If you're hestitant I recomment you at least try the Hotteok, a cinnamon and brown sugar pancake, fried on a griddle (too delicious!). Freddy Wong, a lively shop owner in Fenghuang, stares blankly at shoppers as his long day of work nears an end. At the end of the night street vendors pack it up and go home for some well earned rest, leaving the streets eerily desolate and silent. Comments, suggestions, and questions are always appreciated. Thanks for visiting. Schriefer: Great job again! You details and editing are so perfect... Thanks Schriefer. Gugu3: Very nice! Thnk you very much. blunder: Congratz on 50 entries! This CJ has so much win. Wow thanks. I'm glad you see it that way. TekindusT: These mosaics alone are a master on how to use everything with "HK" in front of its name! I'm honored by this compliment. HK is one of the biggest inspirations for Ionica. NielsC007: Good job! Thanks. Lord Branham: Fantastic work again!!!! You are so brilliant in your layout and tedious work ethic, which is clearly evident in your cities!! Love it! Thanks Lord Branham. Stay tuned! KonstantinII: I'm nominate you! Thank you so much Konstantin for all your support and your help. feeroz123: So many lights all over the entry ! Twinkling ! *** Just call me Mr. Sparkle! SimRico: Landed in Ionica just now on my weekly Around The World Tour of Featured CIties! The good folks of The Docs sends their Greetings as well as the Peytoners-Stepford Islanders. Staying at the highrize district and plenty room service as welll as cultural events to take in.Will stay overnight after an eloquent dinner and off i go tomorrow morning for the next city! Hope you enjoyed your stay. We'll roll out the red carpets for you any time you want to come back. SimCoug: Sorry, I'm trying to play catch-up and I just noticed this entry - awesome work with those nbvc marinas! Yes, be sorry, be very sorry. Thanks. Benedict: 50 entries is a fantastic achievement - great to see Ionica last this long. And this was another wonderful update. Hopefully you'll be back in business soon. Hey Ben, my computer is up and running again. SC4 up and running for the most part. Thanks.
