  1. I hope this is the right place for this question. The rail in the picture has a sort of sandstoney like sidewalk. I'm pretty sure it's the result of Paeng's Sandstone Mod, because if I remove that from my plugins folder the sidewalk reverts to a sort of dirtlike look. The street next to it has a concrete sidewalk, and when I use pavement fillers from a MGB mod the textures line up nicely. When I delete Paeng's Sandstone Mod, the street sidewalk reverts to Maxis' default pavement. I'd love to know how to use fillers and/or extenders to blend in the rail sidewalk to the surrounding area, can anybody help me?
  2. Minneapolis House Set

If you don't have wmp_fence_props03.dat and/or wmp_garden_props02.dat, you can use I've tested it and saw the blue house that's prominent in the pictures built.
  3. Maxis Mansion Overhaul

Dear @CorinaMarie and @Cyclone Boom, the link to BSC Textures Vol 1 leads me back here. Could either of you change it to https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=90 please?
  4. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Thank you so much @T Wrecks for taking the time to explain this to me
  5. Can't find it?... Ask here!

was more than I bargained for Thank you! I think I understand most of what you're saying. But since its an interesting topic I do have some follow up questions. If I do understand you, I'd say I could make a 2x2 lot where each of the 4 tiles has a different base texture (e.g. one grass, one concrete, one water and one rock or somesuch). This lot could have a fountain as a building. Is the building exemplar file you're talking about an actual file? Or is it more like a set of properties tied to the building? Besides the 4 base textures I could use overlay textures to a) make a square in the middle of the lot that looks like dirt and/or b) dress up the fountain so it looks like an actual fountain instead of only having the shape of one. (Yes, the lot I'm dreaming up on the spot is indeed beautiful ) Also, could the fountain that I used as a building also be used as a prop (as long as there is a building)? Or is the technical make-up of buildings and props too different? In a different line of thought that's connected to this (at least in my brain), how does the lot exemplar file know what model or texture to use (hoping I'm using the right terms here )? I've read a bit about how different files (can) work together: But I've also read that dat-files can be renamed. Is this where TGI comes in?
  6. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Hey all, I've looked around a bit but cant find the answer. I want to expand my knowledge about how custom content works a little bit. Is the following correct or am I misunderstanding things: Lots are things that can be plopped or grown ingame. They are composed of objects (buildings and props?). Each object has properties (position on the lot, the way it interacts with sims) and can have one or more textures.
  7. Laguna Shores Part 1

Beautiful city you made there @ByeByeBayou, thank you for showing. I especially like how the Port District and Laguna Beach get denser and higher the closer you get to their centers. Also I'm looking at the pictures from the hills as I want to get better at building in hills myself. Am I correct in assuming you didn't use a slope mod?
  8. CoriBoom MySimtropolis: Members Immortalized in SC4

Standing on the shoulders of giants, now in a SimCity near me And I even get to be number 144, which is absolutely gross I'm just going to leave this here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/144_(number) Thank you so much @Cyclone Boom for making this cool mod!
  9. Raymond's Newbie Thoughts

Awesome thread here Raymond @Raymond7cn! I'm not into the technical stuff so much (at least not atm) but its really interesting to read about your explorations and (sometimes somewhat) random thoughts. Will definitely be following this
  10. simcity 4 Sharing Plugins Folders - Discussion

I confess I haven't read all 18 pages It's an interesting discussion though, for me especially as I'm relatively new to custom content. On one hand I would have loved to download an experienced players plugins folder so I would have a beautiful collection in one download, including all the dependencies, and organised in a comprehensive way. On the other hand I don't see it as a bad thing that I had to download every item myself. It requires me to read about the things I download, to learn about how textures, props, bats and whatnots work together to provide a result in the cities I built. In the past couple of months I downloaded about 2,5 Gb of content, organised my plugin folder based on the creators, and use the DAMN Manager to organise an ingame menu that works with my brain. I've already downloaded things that I might delete again and I'm already reorganising my DAMN root folder because I cant always find what I need. I'm asking myself how can I find out which content use a certain dependency? Is it possible for me to change this beautiful station I found so that it shows RRW rail ingame instead of rail with a different texture. The point I'm trying to make is, íf I had been able to download some form of a pre-packaged plugins folder I would have probably done it. Because I didn't I learned a little bit about how it works. This might cause me to start tinkering with the content I downloaded, which in turn might result in me trying to make my own content. Now that I've downloaded a bunch of stuff, I ám happy to have found a thread like Joe's quest. If there are more threads like that I'd love to read them, makes for good suggestions.

  13. What railside texture is this?

Thanks @rsc204, I saw the 4 textures but didn't know which one regulated the rail networks I'll try that mod Rivit and you made immediately, lots of different options in there
  14. 60s Freight and Livestock Railyard

The workingman productions website is offline, I've learned that the creator unfortunately passed away. After a couple of hours searching for the right dependencies I think the solution is quite simple. To cover the WMP dependencies you definitely need: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33621-wmp-mega-props-vol-01-misc-general-props/ And I'm pretty sure you also need the following two: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33626-wmp-mega-textures-v102/ https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33620-wmp-essentials-v101/ In my search I did download a couple of other files, but I don't think those are really needed. This beautiful rail yard works for me now, and I don't feel like testing any further
  15. wmp WMP Power Lots

@CorinaMarie or @Cyclone Boom could either of you update the links to the following dependencies please? I'm tumbling down a rabbit hole in an effort to download SM2's 60s Freight and Livestock Railyard wmp_fence-wall_props.dat can be found here: wmp_textures02.dat is contained in: One might also need the WMP Essentials that's linked to on the textures page, but I have not tested it.
  16. Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello fellow city builders, I've been lurking in the shadows for the last couple of months, but I feel its time to introduce myself First time I came into contact with a city building game was somewhere in the early 90's. Either I was too young to enjoy it or the original SimCity just didn't capture my imagination. When I encountered SimCity2000 in 1996 I was hooked! In the following decade I worked the grid in SimCity 2000, 3000 and 4. The roads in my cities were orthogonal, with maybe an occasional diagonal. I installed the NAM basically because I wanted to use the roundabouts Six or seven months ago I reinstalled SimCity 4, and while laying down the first couple of roads I wanted to start building a city which would be a bit more lifelike. I wanted to build something that's completely different from what I built before. Since then I've started building a couple of cities and rural areas on a large map. I've build my first RHW interchanges (the learning curve, oh my the learning curve ) and small villages surrounding a church in between farm fields. The rabbit hole I fell in is a plugins folder of 2.5 Gb (thus far) and I'm having a lot of fun with some of the beautiful content people have made. So even though this post is supposed to be an introduction of me, I'd really just want to thank everybody for making beautiful maps, mods, lots, props and textures, but also those who explain and show how they build certain parts of their cities. All this really helps me as it sparks ideas and help me solve problems.
  17. SM2 Hump Yard

The link to the dependency 'wmp_railyard_bldgs.dat' gives a 404 error. It's included in this download: I quickly tested it and got no brown boxes.
  18. BSC DAE Forest Track Lots

Concerning the dependencies, the links in the readme file are dead. The following dependencies are needed: BSC Textures Vol 01: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=90 The Parthenon: https://community.simtropolis.com/SC4-maxis-files/ (scroll down to find it) PEG Random Woods: All I could find was the obsolete https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/4526-peg-random-woods-v206/ I didn't download it, but the BSC-DAE-forest-tracks still worked ingame
  19. DEDWD Indoor Sports Centre V2

Looks great! Thank you! If I'm not mistaken the dependency file can be found inside this mega prop pack: Haven't tested it yet though
