What do you think of Command & Conquer 4? I played a bit and I was disappointed. It was totally different compared to the previous titles. Although the boxart looks cool, it's a bad game. Don't judge a game by its cover.

Sonic the Hedgehog by SEGA is fun however as time goes by the new games aren't as good as the ones before 2013 (Frontiers is an exception). Sometimes I want to go back in time and relive the time Sonic was better. Maybe I'm getting old and that's why losing interest. So my question is if you're a Sonic fan for a while do you still like Sonic?

Some PC games in the late 90s and early 2000s, such as Commandos 2 and SimCity 4, had a particular look that stands the test of time. This video investigates why that is and give us a look at it's legacy.

Hi again!! I ended up in this section of the forum by mistake, but I found it interesting. I was looking at the titles of the threads that had been created about the different games and it surprised me that there was none about President Elect, so I'll create one myself. President Elect is a game that initially appeared in 1981, although the most common version (and the one I play sometimes) is the one from 1988. It is a turn-based game that can be played by one to three people. Or you can even decide not to play with any of them and let the computer do the whole simulation. You can choose between several historical scenarios or a fictitious one that you shape to your preference. The idea of the game is very simple: You have to win the elections. To do this you will have to perform different actions throughout your game, such as attending a debate or visiting the different states. All these actions are carried out through the use of Political Action Points, which would take the place of money. Sounds easy, doesn't it? Well, no, it is not. I can assure you that it is quite difficult to beat the computer. It is a text-only game, the only "visual" thing is the map of the United States, which changes colors as the intentionality of the vote for each party increases or decreases. A fun fact I can tell you is that for some strange reason that I do not know, they chose red for the Democrats and blue for the Republicans, just the opposite of how it usually is in the US. Have you played? Let me know and maybe we can exchange tips and tricks to win. And if you haven't played, I recommend it! It can be a bit dense though, so pick a day when you feel focused because it takes a lot of thinking. Tomorrow I will try to record a game of mine and post it so you can get an idea of what the game is like.

One of the best videos I have seen on the business of video games
MarkShot posted a topic in General Off-Topic
How far back do I go? B/W Pong. This video did a brilliant job of breaking down our hobby and the turning points and strategies. It answers the question why has so much of our hobby become so disappointing to true gamers. I highly recommend watching. 30 minutes. https://youtu.be/g16heGLKlTA -
It is well known I don't like PDS' business policies, but let's put that aside. Two questions? * Best PDS title ever released and why? * Best PDS title to be playing now and why? I don't have an answer, but I think CK2 might be in there. I am currently getting up to speed on CK2 (I own all). (Just so you know, I do have 80% of CK3.) Thanks.

$10 USD I was a prop head and joint injuries stopped my flying around 2000. I switched to ground combat. And now the perfect game. It is a very interesting mix of styles. The attacker plays WEGO (so does the daily mission planning and then it runs). But the defender, gets to counter the raids in variable speed real time. Gary Grigsby is known for huge and detailed games. His later titles WITW and WITE-2 are TBS which I never thought I would like, but he has managed to transcend the chess like play with battles that pull in supporting groups from the near regions and support units for both sides. Additionally, air support, and superiority will all be running alongside the active sides actions. So, you call those title TBS++, and then WITP was pretty much a days orders of WEGO. Gary's WEGO segments are very short. At AGEOD was were during major wars from Rome pre-WWII with 1/2 month to 1 month WEGO. --- It took about 3-4 hours just getting this thing to run well under WIN10. Who would ever thought old DOS games would be so much easier than old Windows. But now, I have running nicely with a dedicated display full screen. It looks like this, but this doesn't do it justice as it looks small. But it is bigger than the pixels of this capture show is it being interpolated by my GPU and is on a 21" 1600x1200 LCD with 1024x768 being interpolated to fill the screen.

I have seen many stories about this but now it's released and it seems pretty cool so I wanted to share. And on sale at Epic Games. Here is a article from PC Gamer: ~Airborne Kingdom is a hypnotic city builder where gravity is your only enemy~ By Fraser Brown on Dec, 18 2020 https://www.pcgamer.com/amp/airborne-kingdom-is-a-hypnotic-city-builder-where-gravity-is-your-only-enemy/ Small quoted from linked source "Fight nature with your best friend, coal!" "The basics are familiar and conventional: you build simple production chains and infrastructure to fulfil the needs of the city and its denizens, with the demands of both getting more complicated as you expand. Power, food, factories, morale-boosting diversions—there's loads to build, but you'll recognise all the categories. All this is happening in the sky, though, and that's a pretty substantial wrinkle. Airborne Kingdom launched on the Epic Games Store yesterday, and rather conveniently it's also part of the holiday sale. It's not going to keep you going for as long as something like Anno or Cities: Skylines, but it's just right for a weekend of creative city building. Airborne Kingdom doesn't feature any combat or even a whiff of conflict, at least not with other people. The war against gravity, though, never ends. Physics is a constant obstacle, and more than anything else it's that force of nature that determines your city's layout. You start out with just a little town centre, like the one above, gently bobbing away in the sky, perfectly balanced. But once you start placing houses, hangars for your planes and towering minarets, it's going to start sinking. You'll need to generate more lift, and you're going to need to make sure it's all even. Too much tilt and your citizens will peace out. And who can blame them? Nobody wants to live in a place where they have to nail down their furniture, or where they're greeted by a view of the ground, miles below them, every time they look out the window. They can stomach a little bit of tilt, but I can't. It just looks like a disaster waiting to happen. And it only takes one little building to push it over the edge."

Hello all Throughout my childhood and teen years I always enjoyed playing games with high levels of competition and strategy build into them. That meant that I had to think fast and act accordingly so that I would gain competitive advantages over the other players. Therefore, I have always liked RTS-games. However, the more 'quiet' simulation-based games (and especially city simulators) have always been the place to go if I needed to relax and process things in my brain (also when I was a kid). Today, having fully embraced the busy life of adulthood, my desire for using games for relaxation has increased. I now only occasionally play RTS-games, and while they are very fun, I must admit that they are rather stressful. I already have too many decisions to make in my life, so why even add more? It seems the older I get, the more I seek into the more relaxed type of games like city builders. In these games, I have complete control and my mind is very relaxed without getting bored. It's some kind of therapy for me, because I can feel that my mind processes many thoughts and past experiences as I play the game. Do you feel the same about games and relaxation? And do you have any games that you could recommend for relaxation (other than SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4)?

I cannot wait for the day when a city building strategy game implements Google Maps/Earth into their platform, that would be very very exciting. Imagine being able to modify any Google Map in a Sim game? Wow.

I'm sorry, is there a duplicate? from "a popular TBG". this is like Corrupt-A-Wish, except we share a single wish, and it must be un-corruptable. first, a person posts a wish, the next person gets to corrupt it. then, the next poster modifies the wish so it is immune to the corruption above. if you want to corrupt it, but you don't have ideas, you say it is not corruptable. rules: You cannot change the base wish. If you say "I wish I was good at RHW", you can't change it to "I wish I was good at region-building". However, you can only say "I wish I was good at RHW that doesn't limit me to RHW-4", if the pervious corruption said "Granted. You can only use RHW-4". Your corruption must be relevant to the wish. If it says "I wish I was good at RHW", you cannot say "Granted. It is impossible to build a region" Your modified wish should keep the previous corruptions from happening. e.g: "I wish I was good at RHW that doesn't limit me to RHW-4 and it is updated to the latest NAM and latest version", you cannot say it is corrupted: "Granted. You're using NAM 1" and "Granted. You have the first version" The specific corruptions "Granted, but it's only [small percentage - e.g. 0.0001%] more/faster/stronger/etc", "Granted but only for [small amount of time - e.g. 0.0001 milliseconds]", and "Granted, but in a parallel universe" are not allowed because they are unimaginative and could apply to anything Be imaginative. Don't repeat previous wishes. The 2-post rule applies here. And we start this TBG-inspired game with this wish! I wish I was good at RHW.

How would you rate each of the city-builder games you've actually played. Listed below I've included the games generally covered on ST. If there is a city-builder game that you play that is not on the list then add it to your list of games actually played and give it a rating. The ratings are from 1 to 10. There are 9 listed game titles and 1 'other' which you can name or choose not to. If you have not actually played the game give it a rating of n/a, or simply leave it off your list. A rating of 1 would be what you consider the least, a rating of 10 would be what you consider the best. You can either rate them as a list from 1 to 10, or rate each one individually between 1 and 10. Either way it should be obvious which way you decided to rate the games. You can copy and paste the text below to enter your ratings. You can also quote the text below and enter your ratings in the quote box. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1. Cities Skylines ___ 2. SimCity (2013) ___ 3. SimCity 4 (Rush Hour) ___ 4. SimCity 3000 ___ 5. Cities XXL ___ 6. SimCity Buildit ___ 7. City Life ___ 8. SimCity 2000 ___ 9. SimCity Societies ___ 10. Other ___ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Has anyone here played Stellaris? It's published by the same bunch that did C:S. It's a real-time grand strategy game set in space where you can design and govern a star empire. I'm absolutely loving it, and the new Utopia expansion is excellent too.

Hi everybody, I wanted to share a side project: www.hypersimulated.com and its twitter account @hypersimulated It's a place where I post twice a week about new and interesting simulation/strategy games. Especially indie sim games, which can be hard to find. But I've also posted about games like Skylines, because how could I not? It's a great game. So if you'd like to get twice-weekly updates, please feel free to follow on either Twitter or Tumblr I'd love to hear your feedback on this kind of a project, whether this sounds like something interesting! Also, any good games you know of that I should check out? Cheers!

I found this very interesting city builder on Google Play, and think it is worth mentioning here to my fellow Simtropians. After some time playing the game I must say that it is really good and I recommend it to everyone. It is still in alpha phase, but is updated very often, with each update bringing new stuff like buildings, interface updates and mechanics updates. Also, TheoTown looks a lot like SimCity 2000. You can build zones (RCI), provide your citizens with water, power, education, healthcare etc. There is a lot of attention to detail, like showing pollution in your industrial zones, sparkling of the water, smoke from the chimney and more! You can download the app on your smartphone and tablet here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.flowersoft.theotown.theotown And this is the official site (unfortunately for some, it is in German): http://www.theotown.de/forum/portal.php This is what the description says: Here are some images of the game:

Hey all! It's been a very very long time since I spent time in these forums. In fact all my old post and city journals don't show in my history since the forums have been overhauled once or twice since I posted them. But I wanted to share my news series I've been working on for a while since I think you'll find it informative. It covers city-builders, management simulations, and general tycoon games. Here's the episode for this month: And if you enjoyed that, here's the full playlist. I'm always looking to improve the quality and content of these videos, so if you have any suggestions, let me know! -Zhatt
