Toggle off the Unsupported OS message banner in Google Chrome While I use Firefox as my main web browser, the other day I ran into a warning message on one of the computers I use. Chrome has auto updates by default, and so it sneaked its way in as a deliberate addition into the latest update. Basically it makes info text appear at the top, every time one restarts the browser on a system below Windows 10. Like so: There is (thankfully) at least an X close button to the side, however no such "Don't show again" option exists. That's where removing it needs a workaround. My tutorial explains 2 methods of preventing this message showing. The first uses the Windows registry, as a simple policy addition. The second is a command line startup switch. Both of these methods are what Chrome (as of December 2022) allows to prevent the message showing. Unless anything changes from upcoming immediate updates to the Chromium browser engine, upon enforcing the preference it should be respected indefinitely. Now for anyone reading this on a Windows 10 (or newer) system, one might be wondering... Why on earth would anyone in their right mind use an outdated operating system online? That's asking for nothing but troublesome trouble! In response to this viewpoint, I feel it's important to reinforce how running whatever type of operating system is very much a personal decision. Whether old or new, for being in control over which software one wishes to use, and in my view this is no exception with web browsers. For anyone aware of risks, methods can be taken to reduce them which includes browsing the internet inside a sandboxed environment. While it's down to the developers of software for which OS's are supported, I think it's only right that this isn't pestering people to upgrade contrary to their wish. It might be crazy to stick to the likes of Win 7, and maybe it is. Yet for anyone who it makes sense to use the same comfy pair of shoes and realises how to mitigate risks online, that's important to maintain for as long as is viable. So that's what I've taken some time to document in tutorial form. This is intended for those who prefer to remain in control over their choices on their own personal computers. Here is the video: Hopefully this comes in useful for people who happen to search and find this topic. The description (click here to load in full on YouTube) contains some extra info about it all, if interested in the techy details. -CB

This affects Windows 7 through 10 Users A small quote from the article link below "As Microsoft confirms a Google-disclosed and unpatched zero-day vulnerability is being targeted by attackers right now, here’s what you need to know. Microsoft has confirmed that an unpatched ‘zero-day’ vulnerability in the Windows operating system, affecting every version from Windows 7 through to Windows 10, is being actively targeted.... Microsoft failed to issue a security patch within that hugely restrictive timeframe, and Google went ahead and published details of the zero-day vulnerability, which is tracked as CVE-2020-17087.....The bug itself sits within the Windows Kernel Cryptography Driver, known as cng.sys, and could allow an attacker to escalate the privileges they have when accessing a Windows machine. The full technical detail can be found within the Google Project Zero disclosure, but slightly more simply put, it’s a memory buffer-overflow problem that could give an attacker admin-level control of the targeted Windows computer.....How big a threat is this to your average Windows user? That remains to be seen, but currently I’d classify it as a be aware but don’t panic situation." Google search faster Simtropolis? There are many positions I can search from Google - not from Simtropolis search table... Is this right? This question does not affect the reputation of Simtropolis... SC4 Devotion just sends everyone to Google. I think that this should be done on Simtropolis as an option .... or COUNCIL DIRECTION. Google finds the main Simtropolis and SC4 Devotion objects, but the Simtropolis search engine does not find many Simtropolis's objects. I think we must give some information about Google search... From my life experience; I found 99% of the information requested by Simtropolis through Gogle but not through the search Simtropolis's strings. Good luck for ALL!!!

I cannot wait for the day when a city building strategy game implements Google Maps/Earth into their platform, that would be very very exciting. Imagine being able to modify any Google Map in a Sim game? Wow.

A few days, I rebooted an old attempt to recreate the Tampere, Finland region in SC4, using a map I generated on terrain.party last year and Google Maps as a reference tool, and started to wonder why some things weren't aligning correctly. Took me a full day to figure out what was going wrong: ^ The above is from the aforementioned terrain.party- map generated about a year ago. Note the points circled in red, which I had assumed to be in a perfectly straight, east-west horizontal line... ^ ...and this is what confirmed my suspicions when I went back to trace the same points in Google Maps today. I'm not 100% sure exactly what caused this discrepancy, but I have a strong feeling it has to do with Google Maps' abandonment of the Mercator projection, which IIRC happened some time after I generated the terrain.party map. Fortunately I noticed this already in the relatively early stages of the project, so "only" a day or two's worth of work had gone to waste. So this is basically a PSA to make sure your references line up before you start, especially if you're using a map from some time ago.

Google New 'Landscraper' Planned for London
MissVanleider posted a topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
A planned building I am sure that many will think is hideous, but from the one image I've seen, I don't actually hate entirely... https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/jun/01/google-submits-plans-million-sq-ft-london-hq-construction-kings-cross- 5 Replies

As a treat over the holidays for anyone visiting CB I installed a game called StreetGuessr As I've decided to keep it, this is an open invitation to anyone that wants to play it NO ACCOUNT NECESSARY the only difference in the game between guests and site users, is site users also have the ability to add their own maps as well as gain or lose points. /clubs/26-city-builders-website/cb-streets See attachment for current maps available to play, one note of caution, a couple of the maps like Oceanica don't seem to be very good at just sticking to their part of the world and you can find yourself in South America or somewhere else .... -catty

The people at Google can't even tell the difference between a hack and a bug. Tsk, tsk. "One ring to find them all/And in the darkness bind them" - JRRT.

I'm not kidding. So with this restructuring, would this mean that there will be more products that Alphabet will try to delve into? What would we gain and lose from this?

Google to shut Spanish News Service This is one of those cases of who benefits (Qui bono?). Google claims they get no revenue from this.

Google should be broken up, say European MPs Monopolistic practices have become blatant. But we already knew that.

Sounds like their server(s) went over capacity, eh? I have always used my ISP's provided mail service through an e-mail client on-board my O/S. As a result, I have one user essentially and full control of content and anti-intrusion. Of course this means I have to manage my archives, but it isn't much of a task. Currently using Mozilla Thunderbird as my mail client because I am not in need of the groupware that is default on Ubuntu.

I will be starting a weekly live feed podcast sometime in January. It will be run using Google+ Hangouts On Air, which means you can join me live to help build what I hope can become the biggest SC4 collaboration project ever seen, or you can watch it later on my YouTube channel if you can't make it live. The idea will be that this is the communities city building efforts. I'll take a back seat to the building, and for the most part, let the viewers decide. There may even be a chance to talk about SimCity with me live on the podcast if you're interested. So this is where the first decisions of the community come in. I'll be using the add-ons (must be mac compatible), that you guys want to see in the project. If you have any add-ons that you would like to see, please link them on this thread. Also, I'll be building in whatever region that you guys decide upon. I assume most people want to have their say on the region, so voting is over to you guys. If you want to select a region, post your region you want, and vote for another region that appears on this thread. You can change your vote up until and including January 16th by editing your original vote. Only one vote per account will be counted, and if there is a draw, I will decide which region I like best. More updates and a CJ on the way.

I wanted to start this phone to see why iOS (iPhone, iPod, and iPad) fanboys hate android and why android fanboys hate iOS. I'm not the average android fanboy, because unlike the average AFB, I don't think the iPhone is a bad phone, I just prefer android. And BTW, this isn't a topic meant for insulting, and should have debating instead of arguing. I have an original Note, Galaxy Player 5, and a Nexus 7. I personally think these are better than the iPhone, iPod, and iPad, but I want to hear other peoples opinions on android and iOS, good or bad... For some reason, I love looking at graphs, so if you have one, show it, even though i've seen most related to this topic LETS FIGHT! (not really)
