Horwood Place, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Horwood Place is a bland 1970's building covered in signage from Sydney's second largest CBD, Parramatta. At 6 floors, this is the sort of building that makes a really good filler: there's a sunglass hut and an asian grocer on the ground floor, a taxation specialist office, a recruitment agent and other various small offices on the remaining floors. The roof has an oversized billboard and cellular phone transmitters to ensure that the landlords extract every last drop of rent from the space. It is offered as a 2x1 CO$$ and a 2x1 low wealth CS$ growable for medium density lots on the New York, Houston and Euro tilesets. Stats below. --------------------------------------- STATS CO$$: Lot size : 2x1 Growth Stage: 5 (Medium and High Density) Bulldoze Cost: $ 487 Capacity Satisfied: CO$$ 89 Pollution: 1 (Air)/ 1 (Water)/ 4 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 5/6/0 Power Consumed: 2 Mwh Water Consumed: 27 Gal/Month Building Style: New York, Houston and Euro Occupant Group: Medium Wealth CO STATS CS$: Lot size : 2x1 Growth Stage: 6 (Medium and High Density) Bulldoze Cost: $ 472 Capacity Satisfied: CS$ 195 Pollution: 1 (Air)/ 1 (Water)/ 5 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 5/6/0 Power Consumed: 4 Mwh Water Consumed: 41 Gal/Month Building Style: New York, Houston and Euro Occupant Group: Low Wealth CS --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: There are two model files in this download. Fermilab Illinois, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Made as a request, this is the main hall building of the Fermilab Particle Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois. Constructed in the 1970s, the building was inspired by Cathedral architecture (realised in the brutalist style) at the insistence of the lab's first director (Robert Wilson) who insisted that the buildings on the site were not merely concrete blocks. The Hi-tech building is offered as a non-conditional reward and is a modified version of the advanced research centre. It does not generate radiation (which the in game reasearch centre does) and it looks best placed as an ex-urban-style campus surrounded by large tracts of woodland/open land/ponds, etc. In addition to providing your sims with 3,524 highly desirable civic jobs that are filled by all wealth levels, this is a CAP busting lot. It will raise demand by the following amounts: Manufacturing: 290,000 HiTech Industry: 690,000 CO$$: 100,000 CO$$$: 100,000 R$$: 50,000 Placing this lot will also give additional residential and commercial cap relief by providing positive Park, Mayor and Landmark effects. Obviously placing this building will give a real boost to your IHT and CO demand. All these benefits do have a cost (which is only fair). In addition to the $120K outlay, this will set the city back $530 per month. * It is offered as a reward without needing pre-existing conditions. * It is located in the REWARD Menu. * It can be placed more than once in a city. * It DOES NOT over-write the ingame Advanced Research Center (or any re-lotted versions there-of), so can be used in conjunction with the standard Maxis reward. Placing rewards is an essential part of growing a large city and region, given their cap-busting and desirability increasing effects. --------------------------------------- STATS: Lot size : 6x14 Plop Cost: $ 120,000 Monthly Cost: $ 530 Budget Item: Government Buildings Occupant Groups: Reward, Crowd White Coat, YIMBY Demand Created: Jobs$: 10, Jobs$$: 2,661, Jobs$$$: 853. Geisel Suess Library, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- This futuristic brutalist building that looks part space-invader, part minecraft creation, is the main library building of the University of California San Diego. Made as a request for a fellow SC4 player, this library which is best viewed from below (an impossibility in SC4) still works reasonably well in the SC4 viewing angle, although many of the ground floor details are obscured by the large overhanging cantilevered upper floors. This probably isn't a building you would want to be sitting in when either the San Andreas or Rose Canyon faults decide to rupture. In the university setting, this building is perched between two small wooded hills and overlooks a ravine. It was constructed between 1968-1970 and the design draws inspiration from hands holding piles of books aloft. It also houses much of Dr Seuss's 72 years worth of work from the period 1919 until 1991. In game this is a large library and is on a 5x5 lot. It is found in the education menu and provides 235 highly desirable civic jobs, holds 680,000 books and provides an EQ boost to all age groups of your population over a large radius. --------------------------------------- STATS LIBRARY: Lot size : 5x5 Plop Cost: § 3,550 Bulldoze Cost: § 5,870 Demand Created: Jobs§ 73, Jobs§§ 160, Jobs§§§ 2 Pollution: 6 (Air)/ 4 (Water)/ 3 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 2/3/0 Capacity: 680,000 Coverage Radius: 6,480 Monthly cost: § 800 Power Consumed:11 Mwh Water Consumed: 42 Gal/Month Occupant Group: Building: Civic; Building: Library; BSC; BSC-Mattb325 --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: There are two model files in this download. Brentwood Savings, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Another mid-century mid-rise from Los Angeles, Brentwood Savings and Loans was situated on San Vicente Blvd. This 7 floor building, constructed in the early 1960's, still stands today, although the concrete panels have all been painted and it is now named the Comercia Bank. Typical of the mid-century design, the main tower part of the building sits atop a wider podium level with exposed columns at both transition areas to lend a 'lightness' of construction quality to the design. Another piece in the playbook of modernist style is the wall sculpture that adorns the main entrance. Vertical fins and rounded, recessed window concrete panels give a nod to the brutalist (brutalist meaning 'béton brut' as opposed to 'brutal'). I have taken some liberties with the building; dispensing with the joined car-park and interlocking courtyards to ensure that this will fit on a smaller sized lot. It is offered as a growable only CS§§§ 3x2 and CO§§§ 2x3 covering both corner lots. --------------------------------------- STATS CS§§§: Lot size : 3x2 Growth Stage: 5 (Medium & High Density Zoning) Bulldoze Cost: § 467 Capacity Satisfied: CS§ 976, CS§§ 246, CS§§§ 100 Pollution: 6 (Air)/ 4 (Water)/ 8 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 6/7/0 Power Consumed: 28 Mwh Water Consumed: 250 Gal/Month Building Style: Chicago, New York, Houston, Euro Occupant Group: High Wealth CS STATS CO§§§: Lot size : 2x3 Growth Stage: 5 (Medium & High Density Zoning) Bulldoze Cost: § 467 Capacity Satisfied: CO§§ 364, CO§§§ 255 Pollution: 1 (Air)/ 1 (Water)/ 4 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 6/7/0 Power Consumed: 11 Mwh Water Consumed: 124 Gal/Month Building Style: Chicago, New York, Houston, Euro Occupant Group: High Wealth CO --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: There are two model files in this download. Spitalfields House Diagonal College, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- In my opinion, one of the easiest ways to change the look and feel of a built-up area is by having a large variety of civic buildings: it really does help keep the game fresh and can provide that all important sense of place. This BAT is based on an old brutalist building from the 1960s in London's spitalfields and has been designed to be placed along diagonal roads/avenues. The lot size is 1x2 but the building overhangs across 6 tiles. Therefore, once the building is placed, use adjacent zoning, ped-mall and park filler pieces to hide the basic ground. This building is a college designed to educate adult sims: it is most effective for 40-60 year old sims. Having a college (or other higher education facilities) is crucial to ensuring IH-T and CO§§§ demand is maintained in your region. The student (up to 12,000) and jobs (up to 563) provided capacities are also very large to ensure maximum impact on a standard city tile. Even after all of these years, there are very few diagonal buildings available. --------------------------------------- STATS COLLEGE: Lot Size: 1x2 (Diagonal overhanging version) Occupant Groups: Civic, College, Strikeable Education Plop Cost: § 750 Jobs: Jobs§ 227; Jobs§§ 239; Jobs§§§ 97 Buldoze Cost: § 70 Power Consumption:12 MWh Water Consumption: 47 Gal/month Pollution: 2 (Air)/ 1 (Water)/ 20 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 2/3/0 Coverage Radius: 7,000 Effectiveness vs. Ave Age: 20: 0/ 30: 0.5/ 40: 1.5/ 50: 5/ 60: 2.5/ 70: 0.5/ 80: 0 Student Capacity: 12,000 School EQ Boost: 24 Budget Item Cost: § 350 --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: This download contains TWO model files; one for dark nite users (and other night-time darkening mods, such as Gizmos night-mod) and one for the standard Maxis nite. (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/23089-simfox-day-and-nite-modd/) --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT SHADOWS: In game, there is a slight mis-match between the angle of a) in-game shadows and, b) Maxis buildings and, c) those made by the Gmax/BAT and lastly d), those made with 3dsMax BAT4Max. None quite matches up with the other(!) Normally this is not especially visible, but when using a building with complex massing that is then angled 45 degrees, plus batted ground planes, plus underground elements, well, it make the peculiarities more noticeable in this bat. Rivit made a shadow-fix that alleviates much of the problem (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=17650.120) but it still remains in some circumstances that I can't do anything about. However, a building like this is likely to be on a built up street (as per screenshots) and won't be noticeable. That said, if it bothers you, don't download it. --------------------------------------- DEPENDENCIES: This file requires no dependencies. --------------------------------------- To install, simply unzip the contents of this file into your plugins folder. -

Millennium Hotel Knightsbridge, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- If you've recently downloaded Harrods https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/31736-harrods/ you may be wanting some additional UK themed Bats to fill the surrounding area. Fear not; over on nearby Sloane Street, a brutalist monstrosity caught my eye, and so I have brought this into game. When I look at a building from Google Street View, if at a street level it piques my interest, then I'll usually look at it from either Google Earth or Bing to get a better feel for the model. It is at this point that I will determine whether I will do a recreation, or adopt a looser approach. Either way, there will always be elements of each building I look at that in my opinion will stay or go when I recreate the building for SC4. Normally not too many elements of a building get turfed out: those that do are either aligned at an odd angle (rather than the SC4 grid), or are too awkward to be worth my effort. It is rare, however, that a building catches my eye on street level, for me to look at it from above and shake my head with a 'what were they thinking' moment. Millennium Hotel in Knightsbridge is one such building. It caught my eye because there are so few of these sorts of buildings in SC4; now I'll admit I am not a huge fan of brutalist early 1970's architecture: add the inclement British weather & city smog and you have hulking concrete structures that have gone from a light green-grey to the most dreary shade of dirty grey imaginable. But regardless of your opinion on Brutalism, you have to admit that it at least exudes authority and gravitas. So it came as some surprise when I saw all of the truly, truly "twee" additions visible from the air....now, with apologies to Mcmansionhell.com and other spoof websites, please see my take on what got the 'cut' from this Bat and why... ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Hopefully my UK friends can get a bit of a laugh out of this: you have been through a fair bit in recent months. Now that that's out of the way, the Millenium Hotel is offered as a growable CS§§ building on a 4x4 lot. It is a larger 14 story mid-rise building, which I have made my own adjustments to. It grows on all tilesets and provides 960 CS§§ jobs. --------------------------------------- STATS CS§§: Lot size : 4 x 4 Growth Stage: 7 (Medium and High Density Zoning) Bulldoze Cost: § 780 Capacity Satisfied: CS§ 3,831, CS§§ 960 Pollution: 35 (Air)/ 23 (Water)/ 47 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 6/7/0 Power Consumed: 77 Mwh Water Consumed: 923 Gal/Month Building Style: Chicago/NY/Houston/Euro (N/A for Ploppable) Occupant Group: Commercial Services Building NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: This download contains TWO model files; one for dark nite users (and other night-time darkening mods, such as Gizmos night-mod) and one for the standard Maxis nite.
