  1. Urban School

    Version 1.0.0

    2,203 Downloads

Urban School by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- In real life, many schools teach students from Kindergarten all the way through to the end of Senior School, and, in this ghastly era of economic rationalism where every public institution must return a profit to justify its existence, many are also forced to host more lucrative adult evening classes. Having schools in SC4 that cater for Elementary through to High School is nothing new (for example see my Bourke St Public School: Bourke St Public School), but combining junior, senior and adult education in the one campus hasn't been done before (to my knowledge). The Urban School combines all three functions. It is crucial to note that this school is not designed or modded to be a radical lot. If you want a radical lot that increases education levels with no cost and taking up no space, then this is not for you. Placing this lot merely emulates all three functions of the Maxis Large Elementary School, the Maxis Large High School and the Maxis City College in terms of Capacity, Radius, Cost and School Effectiveness vs Average Age categories; using the upper limits of each school type to create a single multi-purpose institution. It houses up to 14,500 students and has a very large coverage radius. EQ Boost and Population vs Distance stats are the same as the standard Maxis schools. The Bat itself is fictional, and is based on any number of more modern educational institutions. The central entrance area houses adminsitration, cafeteria, gymnasium/indoor courts & auditorium; the junior school is housed in the smaller wing, and the senior school laboratories and workshops in the larger wing. The adult college uses the senior wing after 5pm once all of the students and day teachers have gone home. This is a large building and lot, weighing in at 8x8 tiles (a bit over 4 acres in the old parlance) and has ample room for a soccer pitch, grassed relaxation areas and the typical asphalt surfaces where countless kids can graze their elbows and knees when falling over. It provides 390 teaching jobs. Visually, the lot is best placed on a corner, following the contour of the front driveway area. Like all my Bats, I have thoroughly tested this concept in both a Vanilla game and a full (4+GB) plugins for over 500 Sim Years in each and haven't observed any abnormal occurrences. In other words, all education levels increased when placed, desirability increased, rewards were unlocked, teachers went on strike when funding was dropped etc, etc. However, if there are any issues, please report them on my thread (Repository of Garbage, Broken Dreams and Disappointment). --------------------------------------- STATS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, HIGH SCHOOL and COLLEGE: Lot size : 8x8 Plop Cost: §16,150 Bulldoze Cost: §1,160 Catalogue Capacity: 14,500 Catalogue Cost/Mth: §5,700 Pollution: 10 (Air)/ 7 (Water)/ 5 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 2/3/0 Coverage Radius: 5,800 EQ Boost: 24 School Effect vs Age:20 (5), 30 (5), 40 (5), 50 (5), 60 (2.5), 70 (0.5), 80 (0) School Pop vs Dist: 100 100 Power Consumed: 18 Mwh Water Consumed: 70 Gal/Month Occupant Group: Civic; School; SchoolsHS; SchoolsK6; Strikable Education; College Demand Created: R§236; R§§134; R§§§20 --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: This download contains TWO model files; one for dark nite users (and other night-time darkening mods, such as Gizmos night-mod) and one for the standard Maxis nite. You must keep only one file - depending on which version you use. If you are unsure whether you have a night-darkening mod installed, then choose the Maxis night version. Regardless of which file you choose to keep, make sure you DO NOT delete the Lot File! If you use the dark nite version, you will need a dark nite mod. (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/23089-simfox-day-and-nite-modd/) --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT PARKING TEXTURES: ****Sigh**** I look forward to the day when I won't have to write a ridiculous parking texture disclaimer for every Bat I release..... The area in the front of the administration and senior wings is reserved for buses and teachers cars only. I have deliberately left massive parking areas off this lot as it is already a large size (large lots attract extra crime) and there are so many custom parking lot options available that you can place your own parking, or, you can use the lot editor to maroon this BAT like some desert island in a dull endless sea of asphalt and white lines to emulate middle America. --------------------------------------- DEPENDENCIES: To ensure proper functionality, make sure the following files are in your plugins: *BSC BAT Props - Mattb325 Vol02.dat (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2383) *BSC MEGA Props - CP Vol01.dat (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1180) *BSC Texture Pack - Cycledogg V01.dat (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=101) --------------------------------------- To install, simply unzip the contents of this file into your plugins folder. 2. Eddy Hall Minnesota

    Version 1.0.0

Eddy Hall, Minnesota, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Inspired by a picture posted by a member of Simtropolis, the real Eddy Hall was constructed in 1886 as the Mechanic Arts Building for the University of Minnesota. The actual building is a simplified Queen Anne style executed in red-brick and red sandstone trim. The square tower which is slightly offset from the centre of the building dominates the frontage; it, together with the multi-gabled roof, large windows, patterned brick panels and wrough iron cresting make this a charming, eye catching building. This version is not a 100% accurate copy, but it is true to the language of the architectural style of the original building and this is simply one that I made for myself, but have decided to share with the community. The lot comes in two flavours: a growable Commercial Services (3x2 and 3x3...there is always an insatiable need for CS§§§ in game) and a ploppable College on a 4x4 lot, which is found in the Education Menu. --------------------------------------- STATS CS§§§: Lot size : 3x2 & 3x3 Growth Stage: 4 & 5 (Medium and High Density Zoning) Bulldoze Cost: §610 Capacity Satisfied: CS§ 975, CS§§ 246, CS§§§100 Pollution: 6 (Air)/ 4 (Water)/ 8 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 6/7/0 Power Consumed: 28 Mwh Water Consumed: 249 Gal/Month Building Style: Chicago/NY/Houston/Euro Occupant Group: Commercial Services Building STATS COLLEGE: Lot size : 4x4 Growth Stage: Ploppable; Plop Cost §1,650 Bulldoze Cost: §140 Catalogue Capacity: 4,000 Pollution: 3 (Air)/ 2 (Water)/ 1 (Garbage ) Pollution Radius: 6/7/0 Coverage Radius: 5,600 EQ Boost: 24 Power Consumed: 6 Mwh Water Consumed: 23 Gal/Month Occupant Group: Civic; Strikable Education; College Cost: §650 --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: This download contains TWO model files; one for dark nite users (and other night-time darkening mods, such as Gizmos night-mod) and one for the standard Maxis nite. 3. Rapson Library

    Version 1.0.0

    299 Downloads

Rapson Library is an early 60s academic building based heavily on the University of Minnesota's Rapson Hall, located on the east bank of the Twin Cities campus. It is named for modernist architect Ralph Rapson, who was the head of the university's architecture department from 1954 to 1984. Though Rapson was responsible for a sizeable number of modernist works, perhaps he is best known for his Riverside Plaza apartment complex, which received mainstream attention when it was featured in the Mary Tyler Moore Show. To be clear, the real-world Rapson Hall was not designed by Ralph Rapson, but rather by Thorshov and Cerny, another Minneapolis-based firm. As the title suggests, I have modded this building as a library. One dependency is required - Volume 1 of the Cycledogg BSC texture pack. As always, I have included two options for the night scene: one that fits with the game's default night mode, and one that makes use of Simfox's delightful darknite mod. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you have or bugs you find. You can also check out my current projects here.
  4. Social Sciences Building

    Version 1.1.0

Another Minnesota building! It's almost as if I have a preference for that sort of thing. This particular building is located by the Mississippi River's western bank, right at the heart of the western portion of the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus. Dating to 1963, it was among the first buildings to be completed as part of the university's expansion across the river. Over 50 years later, it remains the tallest university building on the western side of the river and is home to, unsurprisingly, a number of social science departmental offices. I've modded it as a ploppable college building as well as a growable CO$$ building. As usual, both darknite and maxisnite versions are included. The darknite scene requires this lovely mod from Simfox. Otherwise, this baby is dependency free. Note that two versions of this model are included - one with modeled ground and one with an editable lot. I kept the editable version simple so you can play around with it freely - I'm curious to see what you all come up with! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you have or bugs you find. You can also check out my current projects here.
  5. Extraterrestrical Life Research Station

From the album Lotting Challenge (S3-03-C)

Before voting, we recommend you download and try out this item of content: [Download Here] Seems like you will be getting another modern high-tech facility related to space research... For many centuries, Sims from all regions have been asking themselves what would be beyond the abyss, deep in the neverending space of the blue-checkered sky. One of the most common myths was about a planet called Earth where whimsical things happen: The planet would be round, there is no grid to which roads have to orientate and all Sims could pass to another city without paying attention to the yellow arrow. Of course, nowadays, everyone knows that this is past-days nonsense: There is no place called Earth. Nevertheless, even today scientists are occupied with the search for extraterrestrical intelligence. Therefore, they have asked the mayor for permission to erect this research station. Its huge dish is supposed to receive electromagnetic signs from the space which in turn will be analyzed in the central grey building. This device is only accessible for especially trained personnel, hence it is surrounded by a security fence and the entrance is guarded. Due to the utilisation of highly modern technology, environment pollution is kept low and the local high-tech industry will be happy about lots of manufacturing orders issued to them; however, this does also mean that this research station consumes a good amount of power. In return, the entire city’s population benefits from the knowledge gained from the research, regardless if aliens are being detected or not. Minor note: It may be ugly for some users, but this time I placed it at the city tile's border on purpose - the blue-checkered background is obviously part of the screenshot

  11. Cim State additions

We don’t know how he did it, but Dr. Koothrappali erected his satellite dish in front of Sheldon’s Spot, a half circle park, perfectly aligned to minimize glare while having an overview of the harbor with the breeze at his back. Meanwhile Cim State College has welcomed DB Cooper Forestry College with a grant of ₡200,000 from an anonymous donor. The Wolowitz Applied Science Center(WASC) rounds out the new additions to the Cim State College and Dr. Koothrappali says the position of the WASC is in the area he has already mapped. We do welcome these new additions to the campus and our area making our Science Department on par with Caltech according to Dr. Eric Gablehauser.

The culmination of learning enjoys a pleasant bluff overlooking the work-a-day world. Cim State College gives our students, and future captains of industry, a very robust educational experience in the Populous tradition of Home Schooling. The newly added Book Bank will insure continuing education for those who just can’t get enough. Negotiations may bring the renowned Koothrappali Satellite Dish to our College and, who knows, maybe another Planet Bollywood discovery!
  13. College basketball arena?

Does anyone have any suggestions on any BATs that would be usable as a college basketball arena? Searching for "basketball" in the files gives me mostly either outdoor parks or arenas that are more appropriate for big-time professional teams rather than the small liberal-arts college feel I'm trying to go for.

  17. Anderson Hall

    Version 1.0

    1,061 Downloads

I'll open by saying that I have a personal hatred for this building. I made this model as a way of coping with the fact that, despite my absolute best efforts, I have been unable to avoid this building. I'll sign up for a class in another lecture hall, and then check my schedule the day before classes begin only to see that the lecture has been moved to this soulless behemoth. The dim fluorescent lighting, crumbling concrete interior, leaky ceilings, propensity to act as a staging ground for muggings, and overpowering musty smell all contribute to an ambiance that is unique to late 60s university buildings built for pennies on the dollar. To make matters worse, none of the four "pods" visible on the building are connected by any sort of hallway except for one in the basement, meaning that one must often exit the building entirely in order to travel between sections. During Minnesota winters, this isn't the most desirable setup. A quick visit to the building's Foursquare page gives some excellent insights into the building's many selling points: "Most depressing building on campus." "What monster designed this building? Surely someone with a strong hatred of people." "Remember to pay attention to what door you are going in because each door only let's [sic] you access certain classrooms!" "If you enjoy flesh eating and antibiotic resistant diseases, I urge you to use the restrooms in this hall." Anyway, despite being blacklisted by the university a few years back, it seems Anderson Hall is here to stay. It contains several full-sized lecture halls, making it a valuable commodity that is very difficult to effectively replace. Perhaps I overreacted - I suppose it does a good job of fulfilling its intended role, and I'd probably better just get used to it. At least the lecture halls have plenty of leg room. When you get away from the building for a while (as is fortunately an option for me this semester), you can actually begin to appreciate the building's place in history. In the early 60s, the University of Minnesota was looking to expand its campus. The west bank of the Mississippi River (directly across the Washington Avenue Bridge from main campus) was deemed a desirable site for this expansion, though a large swath of the existing neighborhood needed to be demolished to make room. Anderson Hall (1967) is just one of the many buildings constructed on west bank, the majority of which were designed by renowned firm Setter Leach & Lindstrom. Due to the building's rather generic appearance, I have modded it as both a college building and a library. Both sit on a 2x6 lot. As always, both Maxisnite and Darknite versions are available - download and install only one at a time, or you'll wish you had never been born. The Darknite version requires Simfox's mod available here. I sincerely hope this BAT brings you far more joy than its real life counterpart has brought me over the past few years. As always, please leave feedback below! Thank you all for your support, and click here to see my current projects!

The education cheat is comprehensive and requires just the base game. You may experience issues if you have also installed other mods that affect any aspect of education, including the individual buildings of the university, grade school/high school classrooms, and buses. All of the cheats reduce resource requirements while greatly increasing desired output. Usable only in single player mode. ** It's recommended that you tear down existing education facilities if you use this mod. The package file modifies the following instances, and for that reason, may prove incompatible with other mods that do the same: Modified instances: (see screenshot for SimCityPak). Classrooms (grade school) Classrooms (high school) College Sign Community College Dormitory Extension Wing (Community College) Grade School Grade School Sign Gymnasium High School High School Sign Public Library School Bus School Bus Lot (grade school) School Bus Lot (high school) School Bus Stop Schools of Business, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science University University Sign What this mod does: Number of workers required to start operating set to 1. No plop or maintenance cost Power and water requirements greatly reduced. Garbage requirements zeroed out. Increases capacity of the library to 1,000. Increases capacity for buses to 300 students per bus. Increases capacity of the school bus stop to 300 students. Increases number of buses per bus lot to 20 buses per lot. Increases capacity for classrooms to a maximum of 9500 for grade school and 10,000 for high school. Increases capacity for the gymnasium to 50,000. Increases capacity for the university to 8,000 students and 5,000 students per each university school (education, medicine, science, etc.). Increases capacity for the university dorms to 5,000 per dorm building. Increases capacity for the community college to 5,000 and its extension wing to 5,000. Sets university research requirement costs to 1 simolean per researched item. Research for all university projects now only require 1 student each, making research time nearly non-existent. Not affected: Job counts Museums Flagpoles University pedestrian roads Note: High school has a base number of students at 8,000 and each classroom an additional 2,500, but maxes out at 10k. To use: Place all files in SimCity\SimCityUserData\Packages. If you already have the script files, you don't need to put them in there again, just the included package file. If you start a new region, what I find I must do is start the region, save it, quit the game, and then re-start for any mods to work the first time, even other people's mods that I've downloaded here. If you use this file, delete and replop any existing education facilities. Same holds true if you remove the file.
  19. I understand the basic operation of the PIM, like how to drag models to create exemplars and also how to create lots from them. However, I had a question regarding colleges vs. universities. In the PIM the city college and university share a group (education/college) but have different stats (colleges mostly educate older sims, while universities educate a broader range of ages; also there are different workplace capacities satisfied by each IIRC). I'm trying to create a custom college building, but it's a bit too "grand" to simply be a city college. Is there any way to get University-like stats on a simple college ploppable? In addition, is it possible to create a lot/exemplar with more than one category? For instance, a large building that functions as both a college and a library?

Exactly one year after my first upload, I present to you something new. Keillor Hall is an ugly little 2x4 remnant of the 60s that I have modded in three different ways: a CO$$ growable, a CO$$ ploppable, and a college. The building and its shorter counterpart are both named for famous Minnesotans, in this case Garrison Keillor. Night scenes come in both Maxisnite and Darknite varieties. The Darknite scene requires Simfox's mod available here. Download and install only one of the two varieties at a time. Enjoy!

  25. Higher Learning in Ocean Land

Every City has some form of Higher Learning. Ocean Land has two colleges. Blue River College. And Ocean Land Community College both are two years of study. So what next after the two years. Well you can go to the Sims State University or the very private University of Clay Hurst the largest University in my Sim nation located in Fair View the neighboring city. Sims State University has a great academic program and athletic system. The University is the second oldest school in the city of Fair View. University of Clay Hurst University of Clay Hurst also has a great academic program and athletic system with a great fine arts program. Being the largest University in the city there has always been a rival between Sims State University and University of Clay Hurst both university have both tried to out build each other by building larger athletic facilities at one point Sims State University won but then University of Clay Hurst built the largest sports arena and football Stadium the city has seen.
