  2. Hi everyone, Continuing on from recent discussions, we think it'd be helpful to start collecting evidence about issues with STEX files. Such as: Broken formatting [Example]. Errors when downloading files (e.g. 3D161/G - File not found). Corrupted archives (e.g. broken ZIPs). Invalid or missing dependency links (e.g. [Old] >> [New]). Missing descriptions / screenshots. Irregular download counts (more downloads than views). Any other abnormality, or function not working as intended. So if you discover any of the above, please reply below with this info. The more examples of evidence we collect, the easier it'll be to determine patterns. Afterwards, it can be used for further investigation, in attempt to find solutions once and for all. Supporting details such as screenshots, abnormalities in the HTML, or error codes are also welcome. The following posts will form index lists. Regarding a STEX overhaul, we've got to begin somewhere. I believe focussing on the more serious shortcomings makes sense as a starting point. Once these are hopefully addressed, it'll become a much clearer picture. Looking ahead, it may then lead onto more ambitious projects including the previously mentioned tagging, and the ideas which @rsc204 and @Tarkus discussed (e.g. here and here), amongst others. We're in this together as a community, and continuing on, any input or assistance would be welcome. Some files are not in a good shape, much like old property that needs a little TLC. Just like an architect, although it's a fact of life, people never intended their creations to reach a state of disrepair. As a result, being fair to authors past and present, it's time to commence action for the benefit of the whole community going forward. Thanks!
  3. Night Light

Could someone send me the download for building night lights.
  4. More images from my ctiy (Simtropolis) from Designer City. The images are from the city building game app Designer City. <---- Still in progress, you can still see alot of empty areas on the sides
  5. This is from my city "Simtropolis" from a game called Designer city (available on the playstore and appstore). It's summer now, and what better place to be other than the beach?
  6. Hi folks Well we are making progress! We now have a dedicated PLEX section on the STEX! Over the next while, we will work to get all the legacy PLEX files transferred into this new section of the STEX. We are hoping that this will be completed within the next two weeks... seriously... it wont happen overnight but it will happen. Thanks again to the Dirktator for throwing us a lifeboat - it is very much appreciated. Simpeg Staff
  7. I'm not sure where to place this topic so I decided to start here with technical issues. I want to buy the 3 disc set from Simtropolis (I'm tired of searching forever for custom content on the STEX - I like organised/categorised searching so I can more easily pick and choose). As I use Windows 7, I discovered I will need the WinCDEmu cd/dvd/emulator if I want to download digitally rather than wait the 3-4 weeks delivery within Canada. I have never used this type of imaging software so I don't understand how it works exactly. Where does the information reside exactly? Is it on my computer once I set up the extra drive ie: V drive or elsewhere. ?? Can someone explain this to me please? Sorry about the dumb question, but I am more of the "concrete" mindset and age - the cloud still sounds rather airy/fairy to me I presume I can place this on my external hard drive which is 1 terabyte? Just so I know, how big (gigs) are the 3 disc contents anyway. Maybe one of the staff can tell me. Thank you for any enlightenment on this.
  8. I suggest to ban the upload of third party relots. If I relot a bat or a prop done by another user, I can't know if this bat or prop is still online tomorrow. The creator might take it offline any time he likes. As me as a relotter can't control this and I even can't check if the dependencies I used are still online every few days - so with every relot the risk grows that a single dependency might result in hundreds of lots not to work properly. Those lots, if not fixed - and this can be done only by the original creator of the lot and not by third party - may cause harm or frustration to end users/players. If relotting is furthermore allowed it might happen a batter taking his models offline causing hundreds of lots by different lotters not working correctly anymore - which will cause the STEX to become quite unpopular if the content dependend isn't taken too offline and so (somewhere in the future) browsing through 20.000 download of whom 5000 not working because of missing dependencies. This will make the STEX out-of-favor. So to limit the damage single data loss can do to the community as a whole and to avoid that people leaving having a cascades effect on several third party content, so to prevent lost dependencies causing a mass mortality of custom content - the use of models on lots has to be controlled the way that the model creator and the lot creator has always to be the same. And therefore to give future stability to custom content - the reuse of props and bats to create custom content by people other than the creator itself must be banned. [EDIT] Okay if banning is too radical, at least one could think of a way to limit it to avoid a scenario as described above.
  9. This is from my city "Simtropolis" from a game called Designer city (available on the playstore and appstore). It's summer now, and what better place to be other than the beach?
  10. Hello Simtropolitans! I'm Sebastian anmd I'm gonna be your narrator for the very unique Stepped cliffs city journal, or more specifically, map and city journal. The map will be available (terrain ready to play) once I will have completed this City Journal. Here, I wanted to create something unique with a very different story from what we're used to hear/listen to. So here I begin with the very first hours of mapping... It all began by a simple image in my mind, two cliffs at the edges of the map's bounds, a middly steep valley between 'em. A simple image that took 2hours to make both cliffs... 30 mins after, I was trying to figure out how I could make this map playable, because I don't want a very lot of water in the map. Back to the real world where I live at, there is no such similiar thing around me. All I can see outdoor is the city.
  11. We've tweaked the SimCity 3000 Files section of the STEX to be for player created content and have added a separate SC3K Maxis Files category for the extra stuff provided by Maxis. So, just a general heads up announcement.
  12. Curved Walls

G'day guys, While I am currently working on my first BAT, how does one go about making curved walls? I have been reading up about this and it appears that there are ways of achieving this. Unfortunately, it seems that the Philippo Tutorial doesn't highlight this aspect. What is the best way please?
  13. Hello there everyone, I have been playing SC4 for many years now, and had no problem with creating various cities with the in-game buildings, and as of recent, I have been looking online for skylines and layouts which inspire me, and couldn't help but notice all these buildings I have never even seen before, most of which are apparently downloadable. I am brand new to this community, and no matter how old the game gets it will always be among my favorite, would someone kindly explain how to download this content? I am 21 but not tech savvy as far as DLC goes and would love to join all of you. Thank you all!
  14. STEX rating rules?

There was a time uploads on the STEX were rated simply with 1 -5 stars and without a written comment and nobody did know - why someone only rated something 3 stars. Now you need to give a comment. And I thought this comment is to explain the rate you give. F.e. if someone uploads a yellow house and you don't like the color yellow - you give 3 stars and and write: this house is yellow and i don't like it yellow, blue it would be much better (as you could before without telling your motivation). So now other users will see - Ah, that's the reason fantozzi rated this 3 stars, but me, I love the colour yellow, so why should I care about fantozzis rating? As me, being objective, I can try, but it's almost impossible, as I'm not almighty in my knowledge and capabilities and on judging content I'm not always 'right' in the sense of public opinion or the opinion of everyone and therefore my opinion might be 'strange' to others. That's a result of me being a subject, an individual, I think. I can fail. Even on opinion or judging. So I can't always do right to everybody. Now I see subjective ratings on uploads will be deleted. So objective criteria is needed - criteria that can be applied on all ratings the same way and exclude subjective judgements like about which colour is better for a building. Or I won't rate anymore anything here - as beeing attacked by moderators just for stating my subjective (and maybe wrong - in a public view) opinion, I don't like this. So please tell me what I am allowed to say and what not when rating.
  15. Excuse me, if same topic exists, but my drunk bear going to crack my door, so I have no time. My map has 5x5 large cells, without 2 cells (cause I've deleted them, there were just water) planted trees (AErden tree controller) and some transportation (under this red circles, it's just connections, so except this, there not more transportation). So, I've zipped it, but i got 108 megabytes file. I think, it'll be too large to upload it to STEX. I've tried to compress it better, but it still is 108 megabytes. How to compress it to save trees and transportation?
  16. Just like the list for 2015, we have also prepared a similar list for 2016. 17. This topic is related to the SimPeg Reborn topic. Although there is no discussion about Pegasus. The opinion from that topic is 'included'. Hello everyone, We are in the SimCity 4 Dark Age. The activity is decreased. Almost-stuck modding development. And, the competition from C:S. The valuable mod, especially hosted in small site (like Japanese SC fansite), is in almost-compromise condition. Because of this, we want to preserves future mods to other places, for example a mod is uploaded to LEX & STEX. However, this is require much effort, especially for reuploading big mods like NAM (I don't mention illegal reupload, I mention the legal reupload by the author) to other places. Some techniques are used, including uploading to the ModDB (NAM Team already did that). But, for more easier uploading, we need an API. I will show you the information about project, goal of the project, specifications, and challenges. Information The project name is SimxUpload. That's acronym of SimCity Cross-upload. The goal is to provide easier way to modders to upload their works to all exchanges, like LEX and STEX. The GitHub organization is on https://github.com/simxupload. The repository currently empty because I can't make commit from my Android tablet (Is there an Android app allow me to make a commit? The GitHub web commit tools that's available when creating a file is bad). If you want help me setup the repo, please PM me. The project structure is Leader, Co-leader, Senior Dev, Developer, Senior Volunteers, and Volunteers. The project change is pull-request based. So, everyone (especially seniors) can review the pull-requests. Specifications We will create some specs for library developer, exchange webmaster, and mod storage webmaster. I don't make it because it's difficult to make specs on my tablet. Challenges We know that the exchange available space is going running out if we directly upload the mod to the exchange. Because of this, we offer option for modders which can upload to the mod storages like ModDB and even, Amazon S3 (this is suitable for project that have a website). Also, we know that many exchanges like the LEX don't have option to refer the download link to the other link. By this, we will discuss with the webmaster and we will spread the spec more. We also will provide the 'locked' attribute and auto-text that write download link in the description (if you don't want this 'cheaty' feature, reply this topic). We know that implementing the API to your site is difficult. To solve this, we will 'hire' developers and we give our spec open-source. Also, we will make libraries to support this action. Want to join with us? Just PM me. I will add you to the GitHub. But, make sure you have the GitHub project management knowledge and other knowledge if any depending your position. We need logo! If you can create us logo, send it to me. If your logo is good, we will use it and we will like it. The logo must use flat-design (to ensure the legibility) and have 3 versions, full color, single color, and mono-chrome. The logo must reflect our values. The logo must legible in mobile devices. If you have question/suggestion, reply this. And, thank you. The project is failed due to incorrect time & condition. I forget that modding activity is slowing down. Sorry for inconvenient.
  18. The title says it all. Looking for some really obscene ploppable mansion and grounds I want something better than the mayor's house. Recommendations please. Thanks!
  19. Hello everybody! With the Trixie nominations opening soon and the year 2015 so far back, we thought it would be a good idea to provide a little overview list that contains most STEX uploads we thought to be notable - "notable" as in: hopefully useful to be aware of so you have a little orientation for the upcoming Trixie nominations. So if you find yourself scratching your head and wondering something along these lines... What has been made and uploaded in 2015 anyway? Has BAT artist XYZ even been active back then already? / Was that BAT I remember uploaded in 2015? Did something slip under my radar? Were there other uploads in the same category that could rival the one I'd nominate? ...then the following list may be helpful. It is sorted into broad categories, and I added some brief descriptions and comments here and there. The list is sorted in the order of appearance (i.e. as I found stuff when I sifted through the STEX) and not a ranking of any kind. While it is certainly not perfect, we sincerely hope it will be helpful. Should you find any mistakes, don't hesitate to comment! It is worth noting that some entries may be featured in more than one category because they have multiple purposes. We'd also like to remind you that we have a discussion thread where you can share your personal favourites. This list is formatted as links only (no pictures) because it would take ages to load otherwise, but of course you can feel free to take it as a resource to pick out and present your personal favourites - with images and whatever you like. Picking from this list may be more handy than browsing all those STEX pages again. So without further ado, here's the list for 2015: BATs and lots Commercial @nos.17 has taken care of @Bobbo662's old retail BATs and given them new and much improved lots, filling the low-rise commercial services category - 20. So, I got STEX 3/4/5. Now, I know the difference between ploppable and growable. I would like greater diversity in my cities. My questions: (1) How do you get such growable diversity without spending hours sifting through thousands of STEX entries? Also, I am scared to add things. Why? What if, I add something I don't like. If I remove it from my plugins, I will be left with boxes won't I? (2) Now regarding ploppables. The UI is 15 years old or so. Simply with Maxis and NAM finding stuff is not quick. A large part of the time building is spent searching/scrolling. I see by adding ploppables, I am only going to increase the overhead I have to play. Help? Thoughts? Thanks!
  21. STEX 20,000 Files!

Here it is, the 20,000th file uploaded to the STEX. I would have done something far more amazing if I knew, but this humble little landmark of the Maxis Quantum Dish is all I had. It has a nice menu icon, and it functions as a landmark, and that's about all, but I suppose its a symbol, a symbol of great things to come, to be, for the awesome ability of communication, and our awesome human imagination, so let it be a symbol, of hope, of betterment of the world and of humanity.
  22. G'day again! I am now creating my first BAT from my favourite part of the world while walking through the BAT Essentials Tutorial. Question: Are there any tutorials to create neon signs using GMAX which will work at night time in both Maxis Night and Simfox Dark Night? Thanks in advance. daderic888

  24. STEX 3/4/5 Feedback

I recently downloaded the collection. Very nicely done! (and despite having a fiber internet connection; nothing beats the speed of these copied to an SSD) However, I do have one criticism. Many of these entries have dependencies, and the dependencies link back to the Web. I understand, I was making a donation, but I thought the whole point of the media was that it was self contained. This would not be the only fan site to bundle its content for the player distribution. For example, I still play the original Ghost Recon 1 and GR.NET has a similar 7 DVD collections which now done as a 32Gb USB stick. The point is that all dependencies can be found bundled with the associated mod which requires them, and patches, fixes, and options are available directly in the collection. BTW, both collections suffer from one other problem (no ranking or sorting data). With thousands of mods, you want to simply get to the most popular quickly. The Web sites do this well. The collections do not.
  25. So there are now 19,999 files on the STEX as indicated. Who and what file will be the 20K mark? Let it be an amazing file, a file of all files, a masterpiece beyond all expectation and imagination. Let us all hope for the best for the 20K file. Its important. EDIT:
