  1. Looking for Vandy

Many years ago, Vandy was here. He may still be. He is/was an autism advocate. Since my time in the game 21 years ago, I've been diagnosed in middle age as AuDHD. It was not a surprise to anyone anywhere. My own son is now 25 (!) and more classic autism than I am. I'm hyperverbal Asperger's, he's almost nonverbal classic. I'm sure my old CJ is long gone, and deserves to be in all honesty .But I remember that Vandy was a resource for both DLC and dads of autistic kids. I'd like to get in touch with the groups he was working with, if anyone has any.
  2. Lasalle-Wacker Building

Native-born NW Sider here, looks great!
  3. Show us What you're Working On

Holy crap, I'm such a piker lol. In other games, this old guy can hold his own but I'm afraid the Next Generation has me beat on many levels for this kind of work. It's very much a work in progress across the board, right down to the name. I'm leaning towards Laudanum Lake for the actual shape of the water and the context of it being a resort and vacation town. The MAPP is one of my favorite packs, and I wish I could add something to it but I'm not of that background or experience.
  4. whilst poking around, I must have jarred something loose. I got the NAM working and can save games. I have no idea what I did, but I guess we can mark this one solved.
  5. STEX Collection indexes and links broken

I had to download, this beast doesn't have an optical drive. I figured if I ever needed one, I'd just use an external. I really haven't needed one.
  6. STEX Collection indexes and links broken

the launcher on 3 and 4 doesn't launch, just has a broken image link symbol. I got 5 to work, although I have no idea what I did differently.
  7. I downloaded all 3 STEX collections and I'm having a hard time grasping what's there because the files are all numbered instead of named, and every bit of documentation is a broken HTML page with broken links. I've got 4 gigs of lots with nothing but numbers and no way to figure out what they are without going file-by-file. Even that's not enough in some cases. Is there an auxiliary index available?
  8. What Music are you listening to right now?--The Second Verse

welp, here goes. Someone elsewhere today was discussing Jan Hammer, who played keyboards for Mahavishnu Orchestra. They were the band that gave birth to speed metal in 1971, quite accidentally. Music history is full of weird convergences and influences. The first speed metal song had a string section, lol. Hammer's poignant understated keyboard solo starting at 3:38 still gives me goosebumps.
  9. How did you meet your gf/wife?

since social media has become a cancer, I found this thread while poking around for something reasonably harmless. I have to leave a lot out due to privacy concerns, my wife would be mortified if the whole harmless story came out. I had seen her a few times, like reading the Bible in the waiting room at a medical facility. I was intrigued, but still smarting from a divorce. She had actually met my ex, so I didn't have to explain myself at all (my ex-wife was spiraling due to meth addiction, and would end up, predictably, in prison.). One day about 20 years ago, I was sitting at Starbuck's after work, reading the paper and drinking my coffee. She stepped off the bus across the street in her fast food uniform, and basically picked me up lol. We've been married over 18 years. I knew she was perfect when I saw Weird Al CDs on her shelf, and she had a copy of the Constitution in her purse!
  10. SimGoober lots and install failure on W11

I see you are a fan of the mighty prog rock beast. But that's really off-topic so I digress.
  11. I had a lot of trouble getting SimGoober's old lots to install, Windows 11 apparently doesn't support the old version used for the installer. I finally tracked down a potential fix, it doesn't tell you anywhere that it's Defender that won't allow a directory to be created. I looked in Virus & Threat Protection > Protection History and had to allow each individual DL through manually. I hope this pans out for others going forward, because there's no indication of the problem.
  12. it's giving the error saving city dialog box. Saves are really fast, comparatively.
  13. no, that's a strange new concept to me and I'm not being sarcastic.
  14. I expected to give up the load time, that was a clean install with zero plugins. It was just really nice, lol. I did some experimentation and traced everything back to the NAM for saving. I can use other plugins, and save cities, but it will not save if the NAM is present. That is the only variable to produce the unwanted effect.
  15. got it all straightened out, except now it won't save. It saved without the NAM, but won't save with it installed. Gave up the superfast load time, too. I've been through the permissions angle and there's no issues there. Could this have to do with W11 instead of W10?
