Does the SimCity Classic doughnut method of building work in Skylines, CitiesXL, SC3000 and SC4?
bluejeans posted a topic in City-Building Games
For people that don't know, six blocks of the same category with a park or city gift in the middle. Trains only, in classic that's perfect compared to cars. I wonder if this was commentary about how rail only makes more sense for a Japanese game? -
Is there any mod for curved highways that's easier to use than NAM?
bluejeans posted a topic in SC4 - Custom Content
I never really liked NAM because you have to place individual little bits down for true curved roads, it's pretty tedious. Also, is there a way to change how roads get auto-made when you plop down a large amount of zones? Doing it this way makes all the zone sizes the same and so the city looks very uniform in its' layout. -
I have black hole waste, water and power... am looking for similar things such as schools, fire, etc that will cover the entire map.

I'm looking for something that has canal developments, those cities that have little fingers of land surrounded by waterways, that allow every house in the area to have water access. I looked up gold coast australia but it doesn't replicate them. I have no idea which u.s cities are famous for having these so I don't really know what to search for.

Would it be possible to run the game fine with every single STEX addon?
bluejeans replied to bluejeans's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
It's a shame that the folder structure of the stex discs (The downloadable files are identical apart from being a zip) is folder with random numbers > folder with more random numbers > zip. If the lots were in named zips, you could more easily pick what you want. Anyway, I did install every single lot and it took a while for the game to load... but scrolling through the options wasn't that bad. I just wish the regions were all ready to go, instead of having to generate them on your pc. -

Back in 2006 or so I was running with about 200 lots, and that was with a pentium 4. On cities xl, these days, I can build a city of 3 million without intolerable lag. Sc4 runs far, far better - so I'm wondering if modern system have what it takes to do this? I guess the left menu would be so cluttered that it would make using the lots etc impossible? -
I'm very surprised since, even with the bugs, it's technically leaps and bounds above sc4. I know you can use NAM for more realistic, more than 8 direction roads but it's a lot of work to lay it down. And cities skylines, to me, it just... idk. I don't know how people have been able to make massive cities. That and sc 2013 just feel like a departure from city-building games to me.

If I import residents and jobs from omnicorp, I should be getting more demand for those spaces, right? I still have a lot of industry of all types empty when I've just increased supply for them. I'm cheating, so money and locked buildings are no problem. I export waste etc to omnicorp, so I don't need as many dumps. I'm using ultimate omnicorp mod + increase commercial demand. Also, how many tokens does the give tokens cheat do? Doesn't seem to make any difference to me. And... is the amount of office and high tech presense you have, the more tokens you have? E.g they're tied to each other? I can only find the utlity center on xxl, it's not under any category, it just shows up when you select utilities and nothing else. Increase the amount of omnicorp trading possible by putting down like 20 airports and harbours, and 100 road links?

What are some good mods for simple city building?
bluejeans posted a topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation
I've played simcity 4 for years and didn't realise that anything more advanced existed until I got this game. Being able to actually zoom into street view is nothing short of amazing. Anyway, I actually like to design cities more than manage them, so I was wondering if there are any mods which would allow for instant/near instant development of lots, and basically just some way of developing a city incredibly fast, without much need to worry about pollution and lack of demand for zoning. The money cheat only helps to a point. -
This isn't really a technical issue, but on all three computers I've had in the last ten years, The region view screen makes my cpu fan squeak constantly!! It definitely isn't coming from the speakers. All three computers were built by different people, and this doesn't happen in any game apart from x-plane (and then, not during gameplay)

Where can I get the NAM 1.1.640 night lighting patch?
bluejeans posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
All the links to it on sc4devotion are down, and I can't find it anywhere else. There's a night lighting patch for bats on STEX but it doesn't mention anything about NAM. -
spreadsheet/list of reward/landmark benefits?
bluejeans posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Back when the game first came out I remember a spreadsheet that listed every plop-able and it went into detail about how each building affects RCI zones, e.g toxic waste dump was something like -100 desirability. I can't find this document, can anyone point me in the right direction? -
In my area of the world, "highways" are usually only one lane in each direction with an occasional slow vehicle turnout - similar do the default roads in-game. Are there any plugins that allow you to disable traffic lights? Is there any way to make slow vehicle turnouts without drawing an avenue on top of part of a road? Also - a small amount of our "highways" are either freeway standard, or are 3 to 4 lanes total but with no median or centre barrier. Are there any plugins that have roads like that? And finally: a plugin that lets you draw roads along a steep slope? As opposed to terraforming that makes the road itself flat.

a few questions from someone that hasn't played in ten years
bluejeans posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
First off, I have thousands of files in my plugins folder - I have no idea which of them I regularly use (would have to write them down in-game or something) - is there any way of managing plugins? I'm also looking for a small region that has varied geography as I want to get the feel for designing cities with. Is there any way to replace at least half of the residential buildings with stex stuff? The defaults look ugly when built on a hillside, and there isn't a whole lot of variety (I exclude the 1890 and 1940 tilesets from cities partly because I don't like the look and also the way I build, it doesn't really make older parts of the city look older. And lastly - what are some essential plugins that allow you to focus on city design (aka cheat)? I have a lot that provides instant R$$$, a $100 million plugin, high-capacity water pump and increased RCI demand. Oh yeah - has anyone ever managed to generate a region with the game running in the background? It always seems to cause the game to hang for me, and it's been like that ever since I was generating regions in 2005 on an xp system.
