poll SC4 Building Styles Community Vote
TogaMasterJohn replied to Ulisse Wolf's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Indeed. Option A looks and feels more like what Maxis could have shipped in a later expansion pack. And while I do like and appreciate the general idea of Option B, Option A fits in more. -
Bulbs Broken Scorecards & Invoices
TogaMasterJohn replied to CorinaMarie's topic in Simtropolis Related
Welp... I guess I will have to start charging everybody $10 at each toga party that I have at the mayor's mansion... ...I mean, it's better than what a lot of my city council members do and "borrow" funds from the city's coffers.- 236 Replies

Bulbs Broken Scorecards & Invoices
TogaMasterJohn replied to CorinaMarie's topic in Simtropolis Related
10,101... no more, no less! And no, I'm not affiliated with Shattermore Novelty Lights Company Inc. Ltd.™ Just an aficionado of breaking Christmas bulbs (and no, not from real-life experience, although I've had several bulbs and strands of lights die on me before!). Also, we're close to THREE MILLION bulbs broken. As of typing this, there's less than five hours to go. Will we reach 3,000,000 bulbs broken before the timer runs out? Will it be close? What will happen when the timer runs out? Will we ever know the truth about Shattermore Novelty Lights Company Inc. Ltd.™? Is CloneBoom really Cyclone Boom's evil twin? Will CaptCity or SgtCity flee for the hills? Will I raid the snack machine? Tune in next week... same Sim time, same Sim channel!- 236 Replies

Building resilience
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Cat-Nilam Bayou is super cool! There's so much detail and it looks quite realistic! I'm sure SIM-ple Jack would love it, too. Well done! As always, very excellent work! I look forward to the next entry (as usual)!- 4 Comments

Got a quick SC4 question?... Ask here!
TogaMasterJohn replied to City_Slider's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Did you configure the game to use just one CPU core? The game can be rather unstable unless it is configured to use only one CPU core. Looking at the list of DLLs, I don't see Null 45's SC4 CPU Options listed. I would suggest installing it and seeing if that fixes the problem. It used to be advised to use the command line argument -CPUCount:1 with systems with a multi-core processor (like yours), but nowadays that is generally only recommended and advised for legacy systems that have a multi-core processor and are not running Windows 10 (though some of the newer DLLs can run on Windows 7 and 8.1 if they have the Visual C++ 2022 x86 redistributable installed). -
The punishment
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
I wondered what was going to happen to the Businesspeople and their land... needless to say, I was pretty intrigued when I saw the notification for this! And wow, they did get quite the punishment! Talk about a wake-up call to some of the Businesspeople. Only time will tell if they have learned their lesson. With that being said, I wonder how long it will take for them (if ever) to regain the trust and/or improve their relations with the other tribes. It may not be an easy task. Clearly, the Slackers are none too happy with them at the moment (I can't say I fully blame, though). Regardless, I wish them the best of luck in rebuilding! As usual, great job on the details! The new area in Breadwinner Ponds looks really nice. Dividend's appearance is rather relaxing for a medium-sized town; I like it! It kind of puts me in mind of some of the areas around me. I can't wait for the next entry!- 3 Comments

Big city life
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Blossom looks really beautiful. I could see myself living in a very small rural town like that (though I'm surrounded by towns quite like it, haha). Optimism seems like it could be a nice tourist area, regardless of how Udananians get there. Quigley Beach would be another good candidate for a tourist area, given how it has the potential of becoming a CBD one day (not to mention all of its beach area)! As always, your attention to detail in each city is superb. Just the right amount of detail, too! I look forward to the next entry!- 3 Comments

As someone who has been tinkering with making things with GMAX and B.A.T. for a while now, this may finally be the push I need to actually start learning how to use Blender! Excellent work! I look forward to seeing more updates, as these recent developments are truly an amazing feat!

Simtropolis Error 520: Help Diagnosing
TogaMasterJohn replied to Cyclone Boom's topic in Simtropolis Related
2-in-1 this time! I was in the process of opening links in new tabs from my notifications menu when it occurred. It has never happened to me twice within ten seconds before, let alone during the same session. Go figure, I guess! #1 Date and Time: 2024-07-02 12:03:22 UTC Cloudflare Location: Indianapolis Cloudflare Ray ID: 89ce7e02c830a8a3 URL: https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/60964-SimCity-memes-jokes/?do=findComment&comment=1793092 #2 Date and Time: 2024-07-02 12:03:27 UTC Cloudflare Location: Indianapolis Cloudflare Ray ID: 89ce7e1f884aa8a3 URL: https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/762508-introducing-the-SimCity-4-multiplayer-project/?do=findComment&comment=1793089- 104 Replies

Simtropolis Error 520: Help Diagnosing
TogaMasterJohn replied to Cyclone Boom's topic in Simtropolis Related
I experienced a 520 error about ten minutes ago. I kept the tab open so I could document it here. If I remember all of the events in order... I opened an item in the "Newly Added Files" section on the home page in a new tab, and then proceeded to open my notifications to check my notifications (I had only one). I clicked on the new post notification so I could view it (it was for a post on the "Submenus DLL" thread). Nothing happened. So, I clicked on it again, and boom, it immediately took me to the Error 520 page. Everything else worked flawlessly on the other 2-3 Simtropolis tabs I had opened at the time. I think I have encountered this a few times before (sometimes in new tabs as well), but it is a rare occurrence for me. Time: 2024-06-03 22:23:05 UTC Cloudflare ID: 88e315ee3dd1e26f I experienced a 520 error a week or two ago, but I forgot to document it at the time. Also, I live in northern Indiana.- 104 Replies

Healthy egocentrism
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Blossom is definitely blossoming quite well... ... it is a nice little area and a great neighbor/companion to Farmington, in my opinion! As always, I love the detail. There is a lot of cool stuff to see in these pictures!! Also, I am glad that you enjoyed looking at the towns and cities around my area! Watching the water ripple on Winona Lake and hearing the ducks quack is a lot of fun.- 4 Comments

Unfortunately, I do not know if any exist at this time. However, if some were to be created in the future, what would be necessary to include in order to have them be auto-categorizable?
-
My apologies if this has been brought up before; I've read through the entire thread, but it's possible that I may have missed something. I'm not sure if it is even possible (with or without another DLL mod), but I figured I would mention it just in case. Should a residential submenu be considered for ploppable residential lots? If not now, perhaps in the future? With the ability to growify residential buildings, if one were to create ploppable residential lots, would it be possible to create a ploppable residential submenu?

A risky undertaking
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Oh boy... they finally did it. I have a bad feeling about what may lie ahead in the future for the Businesspeople and, who knows, other tribes now (even though the rest of them seem to be strongly against building near and around the pond). Anyway, I live in northern Indiana, in the U.S. The three areas I was thinking of were: Winona Lake: A small town (borderline very small city, mainly due to Warsaw expanding) with a lot of pretty homes and businesses, a private evangelical Christian college (Grace College), and a pretty lake that gains attraction in the late spring and summer months [go swimming, ride on a boat... you name it] Warsaw: A small-medium city with a big focus on community activities and events, green spaces, three lakes, a small metropolitan airport, and a lot of orthopedic-related manufacturing Fort Wayne: A medium-sized city with a lot of commercial and industrial areas, a decent-sized international airport, and lots of varying areas that feel like Warsaw and/or Winona Lake [e.g., lots of parks, scenic areas, community-oriented events] Surrounding these areas are mainly farms, wooded areas, and other small towns. If you're curious about them, I recommend looking them up and looking at satellite images of them online. I love to stop by and sit near the shore of Winona Lake here and there in the spring and summer months. Very peaceful and relaxing! If I owned a boat, I would totally go there more often during the summer.- 2 Comments

Multitribalism - cities and compromises
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Once again, nice work here! As always, I love the detail! Breadwinner Ponds really puts me in mind of different parts of a few cities near me. Almost like "what if the three of them got together and built a city together"... kind of like Breadwinner Ponds! It's a pretty cool thing to see. It looks and feels like a real area. I would definitely go see it!- 3 Comments

The Future of SC4 Modding: The Matter of Digital vs. Disc, and Windows vs. macOS in the DLL Era
TogaMasterJohn replied to Tarkus's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Speaking of residential buildings... I wonder if it is possible to make ploppable residential buildings act like growable lots in the game now. I know there is a way to get them recognized by the game already via save game modification (via smf_16's amazing "Growifier" tool), but it would be cool to see if that functionality could be implemented via a DLL. -
As someone who owns two copies of the Unlimited edition on CD (one original release and one "Scholastic" release) and the GOG DRM-free version, this is cool to hear. For $2, I may just pick it up. In addition to the above-listed methods for enabling widescreen support, GOG offers a pre-patched (hex-edited) executable for download on their support website. It should work just fine with the Steam version, too. The game was designed for DirectX 6.0, but the game works fine with 9.0 (and from what I can remember as well, DirectX 10, as I played the CD release under Windows Vista for a while). Also, I do highly recommend the "SimCity 3000 Unlimited: Re-composed" patch that Ulisse Wolf mentioned, as it also includes the audio file for "Sim Broadway," which of course is not present in the Unlimited edition. It saves some time.

Smart budget and great ambitions
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Charity looks like it would be a fun place to visit or perhaps even live in. It seems rather peaceful! I'm guessing the grass walkways are PedMall tiles? Those are really cool; I haven't played around with PedMalls very much at all yet! As usual, keep up the great work! I look forward to these (even if I'm sometimes late to the party, haha!). I love the detail!- 3 Comments

Streets of SimCity
TogaMasterJohn replied to catty-cb's topic in SimCity 2000 Resource Club's Topics
I also own a copy of the game (it's fun for what it is). You know, I never once thought about trying to load SoSC cities in SC2K... I'll have to give that a go sometime soon. Same with the SimCopter cities (which I also own and enjoy). -
Party like there's no tomorrow!
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Hedonist Cove sounds like an interesting yet fun place to visit, just like Cape Careless. It's nice to see that things are still going well between the Gridlayers and the Slackers (heck, considering how the two tribes met each other was interesting... yet maybe not all that fun, though! ). As always, I love the detail! I look forward to the next entry!- 3 Comments

Life along the highways
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Ahh! I haven't been on Simtropolis for the past few weeks with everything going on IRL to catch up (I didn't forget about it, though ). I was shocked to see that I missed a previous entry! I checked it out and I really enjoyed it! It's cool to see a village that will be owned and operated by more than just one tribe. Also, Greener Hills is sooooo peaceful... I like it! Anyway, in regards to this one, I wonder what will happen now that Dollar Grove has been established next to the Sacred Pond of Forces. I'm with the Slackers - it's a little bit concerning, haha. Newfoundwealth is pretty cool, though. I think the Businesspeople had a good idea establishing that one! It's nice to see that Smileyfaces and Residents are welcome to trade there. It does makes me wonder if and when the Altruists will still go forward and find a place to set up a new town. As usual, I love the attention to detail (same with the previous entry, too)! Another great entry!- 7 Comments

Industrial exodus
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
It sounds to me like the dirty industry had "hungry eyes" after seeing Cape Careless... ba-dum-tsss! (okay, I'll leave ) Anyway, as always (I've never once been disappointed!), I love the attention to detail in these cities and their respective pictures. The mining scenes in Kuun Lan are really cool, not to mention the seaport in Cape Careless! Great work once again! I look forward to the next entry! Ooooh!- 4 Comments

In search of new friends
TogaMasterJohn commented on TheMurderousCricket's City Journal Entry in SimCity: Tribalism
Ooooh! More diplomatic contact! I wonder if and when another tribe (like the Altruists or the Smileyfaces) will make contact with the Gridlayers. They seem to be quite far away, though. If they do journey out west, hopefully another storm does not come along and cause chaos! Well, I do like to watch the GIFs several times to see all the changes in detail! Not to mention, I like to look at every still picture for a good moment or two! Very excellent work once again!- 3 Comments
