The Sacred Pond of Forces is a revered site and a holy place in the New Udananian religion of Sulkourbanism. According to the ancient religious scriptures, surprisingly confirmed by the means of modern research, the site has unusual, positive properties that propagate throughout the entire land, assuring proper balance across the region and between the tribes. However, the Businesspeople tribe decided to turn this holy place into a tourist paradise, paving sacred forests over in hopes of quick profit. This antagonized some of the other Udananian tribes but, what is even worse, outraged many Revered Spirits of the St'ropoli Dimension including Sulka himself - the chief Udananian deity, The Beginning and End of All Cities. Ultimately, heavenly circles decided to punish the Businesspeople for their defiance - to the maximum possible extent - as the poll results show. The citizens of Dollar Grove heard a couple of frighteningly loud bangs early in the morning. As local police started to answer the first calls from concerned citizens, it became clear that something happened in the nearby "Sacred Pond Tourist Resort and Spa". As dark smoke rose into the sky from the nearby tourist complex, it became clear that Sulka, enraged with the Businesspeople's sacrilegious behavior, sent two meteorites towards the Pond to completely purge any man-made buildings from it. The drama continued into the noon as two, fairly weak but "well-placed" earthquakes shook some of the other Businesspeople towns, destroying key infrastructure installations and also cutting R1 highway into two pieces, severing communication and travel towards Dollar Grove. But the culmination of the Businesspeople's retribution for their sin came in the early afternoon as, completely out of the blue, a volcano erupted in the middle of their capital - Profit Hill! When the disaster dust finally settled, the damage across all four cities was assessed. The tourist resort and Profit Hill were struck hardest. Smoke from the burning forests and extensive loss of property were clearly visible in the ESA pictures taken from orbit. Miraculously, no loss of life was reported. This was partially possible due to the heat-resistant office furniture imported from the Smileyfaces which allowed all workers to use their desks and file cabinets to surf on the lava down to safety. In the aftermath of the destruction that Businesspeople cities suffered, an emergency meeting of the Coastal Summit was called in. The tribes involved in this organization (Altruists, Slackers, Gridlayers, Residents, Smileyfaces and Businesspeople) tried to discuss the situation and determine if there were any ways in which they could render aid to the misfortunate tribe. The representatives gathered, provided following statements... The widespread destruction in Profit Hill had some significant consequences for the Businesspeople. High numbers of internally displaced persons was the most significant problem as scores of people lost their homes. Even huge corporations lost their headquarters to the volcano and the ensuing blaze. In an attempt to manage the wave of homeless Udananians and provide unfortunate companies with new bases of operation, large areas North and Northeast of the capital were opened to development and handed over to the evacuees. These new areas were built without any particular order or plan in mind, apart from the basic Businesspeople city-building concept. Namely, priority to commercial development along busy roads. However, most of these new areas developed as a result of a pressing necessity rather than strategic planning or urban science. This tendency resulted in a dynamic development of low-density zones in Breadwinner Ponds and Northern Profit Hill. What is more, the town named Dividend was also established North of the Businesspeople capital. The main features of this new town are low density zoning, unintentionally mixed wealth levels and commercial "islands" located in the busiest areas. As mentioned previously, some of the evacuees were moved to Breadwinner Ponds - a city which was not affected by any catastrophic events. What is more, it sits on the R2 highway, it is co-owned by the technologically-advanced Smileyfaces and is a reception point for most of the disaster aid coming from the East. Due to these advantages, it proved much easier to accommodate disaster survivors in this city. The promised Smileyface technical assistance and advanced equipment allowed the evacuees to truly slingshot back to normal lives in the shortest possible time. The new city borough is far more advanced compared to Dividend. Artificial water canals, extension of Profit Hill's tram line, luxurious apartments and lots of green areas (including some still under construction) are the highlights of this new (if unplanned) neighborhood... One more impact of the recent events, though from a cultural and social standpoints, was a sudden rise in spiritual and religious awareness among some of the Businesspeople. In many cases, anger against Sulka and his punishment, accelerated secularization throughout some social groups. However, spirituality experienced a noticeable revival in those more interested in philosophy and religion. The tendency became so prominent that a new university specializing in humanities and theological studies was established in Breadwinner Ponds. Its academic value, beautiful surroundings and the vicinity of the city hall became a "visiting card" of the local area. Another significant, if a little mundane, gathering spot was established for those who wished to discuss matters of life, gods and morality in a carefree fashion with a pint in one hand and a cigar in the other. To that end, a Smileyface couple established a small pub on a road connecting both parts of the city - "The Mindless Philosopher Inn". A place "Where alcohol percentage is as heavy as a nihilist's mind". The troubles around The Sacred Pond of Forces had a sad and fairly shocking result. The controversial Businesspeople holiday resort was wiped clean from the face of New Udanani, giving way for the nature to take it back. The scars on the ground and in the cities remained, however, leaving a visible mark across the land. The only cure for the rather unpleasant memories of these events is probably to move on and focus on rebuilding tribal ties and the physical damage. Some people are hopeful and try to focus their minds on the process. Others, however, believe that with The Sacred Pond of Forces ailing, New Udanani's balance is still off.

Authentic (not man-made) tallgrass prairie is now at 1/2 of one percent of its original acreage, according to an article I read recently. The monarch butterfly is also supposed to be endangered but it was argued that there aren't enough resources to officially list it. Humans continue to breed beyond sustainability and almost all of them want to consume/generate waste ever-more unsustainably. When I was a kid in the late 1970s, a tree in front of my house was completely covered with migrating monarch butterflies. Fields and wetlands were all around my town. All of those are gone. Strip malls replaced the wetlands and the fields are houses/condos/stores. One can't even see the lake anymore in some areas because of the housing. Highways are going in where the prairie remnants are. People had to try to desperately transplant Mead's milkweed. Milkweeds do not transplant successfully when they're mature, the vast majority of the time. The soil was also destroyed, although they tried to move some of it. One can't go to Lowe's and get that in a bag. Neonics have increased toxin exposure astronomically for insects and even the pretty flowers one buys for one's garden are likely saturated with them. I really wonder what there is to live for when people have a manic look in their eyes as they lobby to be able to have ever-more reckless use of chemicals in the guise of prosperity. What is the motivation that I am supposed to find? I want a world where the monarch butterfly exists — not one with more strip malls and crazy-eyed folk who think they're cleverly playing a game. Ecological Cannibalism may make for a great survival game title but it's not a nice basis for living.

I feel like I just got out of a 90s movie trailer telling me the tale of three ancient lost cities and now I have to stop some such dark overlord from achieving some such ancient artifact and only me and my cast of unlikely heroes can save the day. - Arius Scorpius Episode 1 " 'Dark Star' to 'Cricket'. We are ready to begin the citywide scan in search of the target area", said Tomabaltuu Saaltu - the commander of the Reticulan mercenary force called in for a seek & destroy mission, against the corrupt city council of Magnasanti. " 'Cricket' to 'Dark Star' proceed..." I said "Surgical strike authorized when target in range. ‘REBUILD’ and popular revolution will take it over from there. Have a good hunt!", I said, anxiously awaiting for a momentous battle to unfold. Soon, the skies over Magnasanti filled with Reticulan crafts, each beaming a strange, pale-yellow scanner lights upon the entire city. Slowly but systematically, the UFOs combed each block in search for the people who held the entire city captive for tens of thousands of years... Suddenly, my mayoral radio went on again " 'Cricket', this is ‘Dark Star’ we have picked up a strange reading on our scanners. Looks like some sort of a hive mind... located in the North-Eastern tip of Magnasanti!" "This is your target, 'Dark Star'! Fire at will!" Soon, the Reticulan mothership has silently hovered over the newly discovered target. The next minute, a blinding flash of blue light flooded half of the city. When it subsided, we saw our enemy’s keep (disguised as a regular block of flats) ablaze, completely engulfed in flames. Extraterrestrial weapon made a short work of the evil city council. But the battle was not done yet… Suddenly, thousands upon thousands of the city council minions have swarmed the nearby area, seeking revenge for the death of their leader. Apparently, summoned by the last will of a dying, diabolical, disembodied mind that has called itself “mayor” up until now. However, the popular revolution and the REBUILD rebels were no less determined to liberate the city… Soon, both armies have speedily leapt at each other with a mighty roar and the streets turned red… No! No, no, no. It’s not what you think! I just told them to use rotten tomatoes instead of firearms! (Because, as we all know from SPAM, tomato paste can’t fix a broken tomato anyway...) The battle raged on with the REBUILD forces taking the upper hand. But then, to my shock, I saw flames erupting in the battle area… *Sigh* “If Sim wants, Sim gets. How, in the Simlord’s name, did they manage to incinerate the entire neighborhood with a veggie ammo?!” Well, never mind, the situation could quickly escalate into a horrible blaze, not unlike the Great Fire of London. In case you missed it – Magnasanti has never had any fire stations. Luckily, I remembered the lesson from an emergency simulation I also played in the good old days. I quickly realized there is only one way to extinguish the fire if no fire engines are available – by cutting the fuel out! Thus, with a heavy heart, I decided to bulldoze some blocks… This way, I could at least isolate burning buildings from the rest of the city! Easier said than done… I forgot that every single building in this crazed city has been made historical!! No turning back now… I promised to save this city, and I WILL save it. Even if it means “dehistorizing” entire city block! Disaster response (and the revolution) underway! The REBUILD forces continued to fight for the freedom of their city, while I kept my “dehistorizing” and fire-containment efforts going. After several loooong and tense minutes (what must have been hours in Magnasanti) I have finally managed to isolate the fire from the rest of the city… Due to the “buffer zone” achieved, whatever burned now, could no longer “jump” onto any other building. Gasping for air, heart beating heavily, I suddenly heard a triumphant cry. The revolution was over! The Magnasanti Sims were free! Chanting their revolutionary songs and the name of yours truly! The battle was done. The REBUILDs have fought the evil loyalists while I fought the blaze, but we won… Our adversaries, all tied up with broccoli-made ropes, were now sitting in the rubble, defeated, resigned and soaked in tomato juice. In case you are wondering, next week, we decided to send them all to San Francisco region as a part of a neighbor deal… “ ‘Dark Star’, ‘REBUILD’, this is ‘Cricket’ – a job well done guys! Congratulations!” I radioed to my allies. “Rebuilding this city should be far more fun than ruining it was!” And this is how the battle area (and the city overall) looks like by the end of this episode:

Admiralteyskiy V - The Night with no End
Kim Sunwoo posted a City Journal entry in Leningrad | Ленинград 1941-44
"Go to the baths. Put on your white dresses. Eat the funeral dishes. Lie down in your coffins and prepare for death. On November 7 the skies will be blue with the explosion of German bombs" - German leaflets thrown in Leningrad 1/11/1941 - Anticipating the Bolshevik Revolution aniversary, a rain of German leaflets fell on the city since early November. This was the second time they asked women to dress in white. The previous time they promised women wouldn't be hurt if they did so, and those who believed it provided an excellent target for German aircraft. 7/11/1941 - November 7 was the aniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution, the big Soviet holiday, and the Germans had been preparing for this day. At dawn, bombs started to fall in the city. These were not ordinary high explosives. These were heavier than anything the Germans had used on Leningrad before; naval magnetic mines, weighing a ton or more, with a diameter of nine or ten feet, attached to parachutes. In the picture we also see a blue flare apparently shot from the second floor of the building in the corner, south of Griboyedov Canal. Rumors of Nazi activity flooded the city. It was suspected that traitors were using rockets and flares to guide Nazi bombers. This was never proven, but Leningraders were sure about it. More than 10.000 people died in the air raids of September, October and November. Destruction, death and hunger knocked everyday at the door of the Leningraders. Disclaimer: This CJ includes original photos taken during the siege. To my knowledge none of them is protected by copyright, but if I were wrong I'm happy to delete any picture that infringes the law. ----------------------------------[CREDITS]---------------------------------- This is my favourite update so far. I had it in mind since the day I started the CJ, so I really hope you will enjoy it. Looking forward to read your thoughts!- 14 Comments

The Destruction of Soirée Sands Welcome to the City of Soirée Sands, or what's left of it... The City of Soirée Sands used to be a populated city with a large suburbia surrounding what's left now is rubble and burning hulks of people's homes. No one know who patient zero was, but 2 hours after first infection it was to late for the city to wake up and realize what was happening... The Infection spread like a wildfire... The Military's Response was a nuclear strike... This is all probably confusing on how it escalated this quickly, we'll have to go back to when this all started, Patient Zero, the City's first reactions to what they thought was a joke, and the Army's response once it was confirmed things were going down. This is just Part 1, I plan on going farther back to the hospital, this was made in a region that is no less than 2 hours old I just started playing the L4D theme and needed to get rid of every hobo in the city. It worked really well, I plan on continuing this! Also, these zombies wont magically dissapear at daytime I'll try to keep it to where at day its more shots of the destruction and rubble, while at night its zombies, fires, and gunshots. Feel free to leave thoughts and ideas, I already have a couple ideas on what the Armed Response could be to the zombie outbreak(thank goodness for the Military Police mod, it'll look amazing).

TMW#13 - Eden Prime System | "Fall of the Protheans"
Huston posted a City Journal entry in Mass Effect: Beyond
Ggamgus:Thanks, but it's easier said then done Forthwall: Thanks Alex_1210: Thanks a lot! KonstantinII: Not my type of place either It's a BAT here on the STEX. Try searching Hong Kong to get it. RepublicMaster: Thanks a lot Will! Bipin: Thanks so much Bipin, means a lot! APSMS: Thanks a lot and yeah they're photoshopped K50: Haha, Thanks k50 #1SithLord: Thanks! Mass Effect's my own favorite Sci-Fi, if not the game entirely aswell I actually have slipped in some Reaper invasions in other updates as "flashforwards" but this update is focused on the invasion. But it's about the Protheans rather than the Galaxy in the CE. MilitantRadical: Thanks! Been playing ME2 aswell and moved on to ME3 lately to run through the game again Guess I'm searching for more ideas and inspiration. Lance83: Thanks you so much Pressure: Ha, Thanks __________________________________________________________________________________________ Notes: Here's another update on another official Mass Effect planet. But there's also something very different about this update. It's set 50,000 years before the present Galactic civilization was established. In the perspective of the Protheans, a formerly exisiting Galactic race that was taken into the edge of extinction. Here is Eden Prime, a colony of the Protheans, in a time before Humans arrived and colonized the planet... __________________________________________________________________________________________ Eden Prime. A human colony. Located on the fringes of Terminus space. A vast agrarian world filled with arcologies and spanning human colonies, it stands as a symbol of human endurance and their ability to be able defend an extra-solar colony. But before Humanity took even a single step on Eden Prime, the planet had previously belonged to the formerly dominant Prothean race. The planet had even been in the possession of the Protheans long before Humans, Asari, Turians, Salarians and other galactic races developed any true intelligence and innovation. They remained primitive against the Protheans who studied them as an occupation, tracking the curve of their evolution. The world almost 50,000 years ago was only one of many planets that the Prothean Empire spanned. It harbored many large cities and the presence of Protheans was extremely evident and were vastly numerous in population across the Eden Prime. Though they prospered on the planet and saw no threat to their colony; when the 50,000 year cycle of the Reapers again began and chased their empire down to edge of existance, Eden Prime was not spared the inevitable fate of destruction. The Protheans were losing. Their Empire was crumbling. And they had a plan to save their race from extinction... Their intriuging cities that once dotted the surface of Eden Prime were beautiful. Towers were only few in numbers and the Protheans lived on without a shred of doubt their colony was safe. But upon the arrival of the Reapers, planets across their Empire fell quickly as their chain of command, and government fell quickly first when the Reapers crossed into the Galaxy through the Citadel Relay, through what was the Protheans capital at the time. Eden Prime was no exception, and the planet was ravaged by the invasion, with Protheans facing certain doom as a sapient synthetic race more advanced than themselves assumed the obliteration of their civilization. Though to avert the destruction of their race as a whole, they devised a plan which would see 1 million Protheans in stasis...but only 1 who would live to see the next cycle when indoctrinated members shared their plans with the Reapers and the location revealed, threatening their survival plan. Their cities were decimated by the Reapers, leaving nothing to stand. The chances of anyone surviving here were next to none. The fought with whatever they had and whatever remained of their military on Eden Prime. Their demise was inevitable, only fighting against futility. The Protheans. A hyper-intelligent race that existed 50,000 years before the Galaxies modern sapient species came to take over, were destroyed. What fate do those in the next cycle have? ________________________________________________ Thanks for viewing TMW! Rate 'n' comment. +1 if you enjoyed the update!- 11 Comments
