  1. Party like there's no tomorrow!

Now that exploding fireworks went silent, the New Year's Eve seems like a distant memory. However, the Slackers and their Gridlayer friends have found a way to keep their people and foreign visitors entertained throughout the rest of the year... and probably many more years to come. A new town has been established on Eylaquin Archipelago in Y.O.U.S 37. Passenger boats and yachts are currently the only means of transport available to reach these islands but it is well worth it. The city that was built there is a very special place if excitement is what you want... This unassuming speck on the map of New Udanani is the Mecca to any tourists which crave for wild, spicy and carefree entertainment far from the bounds of their everyday lives. The city of Hedonist Cove located on the archipelago is a place dedicated to those who can't live their lives too fully... First arrivals to Eylaquin Archipelago are always organized and follow a strictly designed travel route. All first-timers are delivered to a small, quiet marina at the Southwestern tip of Greater Eylaquin island. This way, newcomers to the island don't see any landmarks too soon and their anticipation is maintained... The only significant standouts that the guests can see from this side of the island are Xinuma Peak and Sunray Waterfall which flows out of its rocky bowels. After disembarking, the tourists are packed onto shuttles which take them to the city center through a dark, 3 kilometer long tunnel. As shuttles approach their destination, the tourists are greeted by a colorful light display installed over the final parts of this underground road. As the vehicles reemerge to the surface, the visitors are swept off their feet by the lively, untamed entertainment district which pulsates with life and noise... Here, one can find some of the most popular entertainment venues in Hedonist Cove. A local chapter of Hard Rock Cafe, the Atom Danceclub, (the architecture of which clearly indicates a Gridlayer hand) numerous pubs, eateries, gaming halls, cheap lodging options and plazas where random people meet to drink, laugh or play silly party games. Within downtown, one can also find a classy 4-star Arabica Hotel with adjacent Tunis Game Hall which has a selection of simple gambling games. A local, fashionable drink bar named"Lucky's Hang Ten can also be found close by. West of Arabica, there are various shops and rentals stocked with sporting goods - anything from beach volleyballs to jetskis and climbing equipment. There is even a motocross rental point with a cross-country track. New tourists usually stay in the rented rooms and apartments which are located in the Eastern part of Greater Eylaquin and close to the entertainment district. This area is also close to the bright and balmy Kalamris Beach. But all of the visitors, regardless from where they came, are always, invariably hypnotized by the sight of the largest night club the Island (and probably entire New Udanani) has to offer and which is built on the slope of Xinuma Peak... Every night, the Volcanic Club resonates with the sounds of wild music and the primal heat of the bodies hustling through it. Nights inside are long and hot. If three dance floors above and five below the ground does not satisfy your party apetite, then I don't know what will... Those who wish to cool down after the night's events (or those who want to actually warm up before the next evening) can do so in the thermal baths which are located right next to Volcanic Club... The venue is popular among all types of tourists due to its soothing waters and fantastic views of the Greater and Smaller Eylaquin islands. Before we move on, just one piece of useful advice - if you have already been to Hedonist Cove before, you are no longer required to participate in the "ceremonial arrival" described above. On your next visit, you can choose to disembark directly at the so-called "VIP Marina", which is located just steps away from the downtown. Those who'd like to experience the wonders of Hedonist Cove but, at the same time, are not into barely controllable parties, can book their rooms on Smaller Eylaquin. This island is more orderly and quiet but still quite exciting due to numerous pubs and small entertainment businesses all over. Smaller Eylaquin has several good lodging options which are close to beautiful beaches and hidden away from the chaos of the main island. If you are rolling in dough, you can book rooms at Champion's Victory Palace - the 5-star hotel and luxury casino. If your funds are limited, pick one of the guesthouses or comfy 3-star hotels. Of course, Smaller Eylaquin is also home to some permanent citizenry who decided to live in Hedonist Cove. If you fancy some statistics, there are 7338 residents living in the city. In order to provide these people with employment opportunities, an industrial zone has been built on Southern Eylaquin - the last island in the archipelago. There is really nothing interesting out there unless you like soot and steelworks. It is also perfectly understandable that some people simply do not wish to work near or with rowdy tourists... Hedonist Cove is a crazy but equally tempting place to visit. With Udananians and internationals swarming into the city, one should keep in mind that tickets to visit should be booked at least eight months prior to the planned arrival! All lodging options support approximately 6500 tourists at any given time so it is important to plan one's stay in advance. To conclude today's episode, have some more images and impressions of the unusual Slacker-Gridlayer island city. Comment replies: @JulioC - Thank you for nice words. I'm happy you like my "gardening"! @Honolulu - I'm really flattered and glad you liked the cities presented in the previous episode. Thanks! @Tarkus - Thank you @Tarkus! I have to say GLR is my favorite type of transport. It seems it is also very popular among commuters. @TogaMasterJohn - Now that I'm on sick leave I have too much time on my hands and this is why the episodes appear so quickly. I would like to be busier, trust me... It's great that you enjoyed both the Coastline Summit and the new Businesspeople cities! Dollar Grove indeed feels like walking the line...

  4. 05 Century City

CENTURY CITY Century City is the entertainment hot spot of the city... for the whole family that is... the Red Light District is a hot spot for a "different" type of clientele. Everything is here---theaters, casinos, educational centers, museums, shopping, sports... it's all here. And at night, it likes up like a Christmas tree.
  5. Spring 'n Summer entertainment

A lull before the storm of people departing from their pleasant cruise. The passenger harbor is nestled half way into Briarwood Woods and opposite Ashton. Busses and the Metro wait. On either side of the Metro is a sunken plaza. J. Garners' college has seen many students studying under open sky from the sunken plaza. Just up the street where Briarwood Woods and Ashton meet is the new entertainment complex called Spring 'n Summer. Starting from the Strata Resort at middle bottom we look left for the Hard Rock Cafe, Yekaterinburg Circus, Swim Club and Minor League Baseball Stadium. To the left of the baseball stadium is the 3 Penny Opera and Night Spire Casino. To the right of the baseball stadium is Social Center L57. An overwhelming favorite is the World's Biggest World bathed in blue. The U.S.S. Missouri sits moored opposite and to the right of the Missouri is the Earth Plaza Monument and the Statue of Wealth. Wow! World's Biggest World. The Yekaterinburg Circus before the Strata Resort dominated the skyline. Many devoted Arborists are busy making Spring 'n Summer an enduring delight.
  6. Attendance for these games is very much on the rise. MMP games have a large following, and some 'professional' players who make serious money. An example of Internet era employment. Is this the beginning of the dissolution of the big physical sports leagues? Discuss.

  8. Aran's Street Fair

    Version 1.0

    4,198 Downloads

What the...? One thing I've noticed as I've moved around the United States is the proliferation of street fairs. A tradition dating back centuries, these fairs seem to pop up everywhere once the snow starts to melt* and the people begin to thaw out from a long, dull winter. From the tiny "Highland Hey Days" (Highland, MI) and the modest "Third Thursday Street Fest" (Willimantic, CT) to the sprawling "Ann Arbor Art Fairs" (Ann Arbor, MI) and beyond, these farmer's markets/art fairs/street festivals/etc. are a great excuse to let the good times roll. Oh! So that means...? Yeah. Now you can plop 20 more-or-less different lots into your SimCity so your Sims can throw up the orange barricades and bust out the beer kegs. Or display their arts and crafts. Or fresh fruits and vegetables. Or whatever. This set includes: 3 transit-enabled street entrance lots as well as 9 1x1, 4 1x2, 2 1x3, and 1 1x6 pre-fab Street Fair (also transit-enabled). And because 19 was a weird number for a set, I tossed in a temporary Bus Stop as well so that your Sims have no excuse not to go. Due to the TE, the entrances and the 1x6 will allow C+I growth adjacent to them. See below. Also included in this archive are two graphics: a large overview of all the lots, labeled, so you can discard the ones you may not want and a second one with a plop tip for getting growth behind them. And this file. (In case you missed it...) Please note that: a) this really isn't an original idea; I saw something similar posted to a Japanese BAT site a while back and it sort of stuck in my mind and b) these look a lot better sitting next to the NUTs Market Place Lots, the Kingston Market, the Flower Market, or the Brickworks Market. Because of this, I've set these lots to appear in the Landmark menu just below the NUT Market Place Lots. Full disclosure: I use NUTs MPL in my main city and ASF goes with it like peanut butter and jelly. Just sayin'. Wait a minute, don't you...? Yeah, I suck at 3D modeling. (Need proof? Download my other lots.) So I'm just the lot-man in this case. Full credit for everything that appears on these lots goes out to the creators of the dependencies below. If anyone has issue with me using their props, please let me know and I'll remove them and update this pack. Aw, man! Dependencies?! I promise there's not that many: BSC MEGA Props - Gascooker Vol01.dat (LEX) BSC MEGA Props - JES Vol01.dat (the menu boards) (LEX) BSC MEGA Props - Misc Vol02.dat (the other odds and ends) (LEX) BSC Textures Vol 03.dat (LEX) wmp_ferry_props01.dat Workingman Productions** -from the "WMP Street Ferry" at workingman-productions.co.uk PEG_MTP_SUPER_RESOURCE_PACK.dat (PLEX) -from the "Mountain Theme Pack" -(Note: if you skip this one, you may want to delete Aran_StreetFair_1x1_I, since the lot looks empty without the blue plastic outhouses.) Resource_Parks_205.dat (PLEX) -from "Updated: Parks 2.05" Again, thanks to the creators of these fine materials. Quality resources like these are why SC4 is still alive after nine years. Anything else? Many, many thanks to Gascooker for creating Photoshop actions (and RippleJet for posting them to SC4D) that greatly simplified making the custom icons. And huge thanks to Vortext over at SC4D for figuring out a visual issue that was driving me nuts. Cheers! Aran * Or not. I'm looking at you, Fond du Lac. ** STEX, BSC LEX, PLEX, SBEX, CBEX...good grief. Maybe Workingman Productions didn't get the memo about the *EX meme?
  9. Southlands Stadium Place: Update 58

Update Synopsis: Today's Update sees us return to the scene of update 49; a mysterious construction site in Southlands. Today we will see that that construction site has morphed into the Southlands Stadium Place, a large office, dinning, entertainment and arena complex just outside of the downtown core. The area has spurred a lot of growth in Southlands, and the construction we will see surrounding the arena place is just the tip of the iceburg. So lets go have a look as this new area... 58.1 |You may remember this photo from update 49. This was a major construction project that was getting underway in Southlands. I didn't tell you what it was, and left you guessing. (Gee, I'm mean aren't I? ) 58.2 | Here is what the area looks like today. Those cranes were constructing the arena portion of what has become the Southlands Arena Place. This area of Southlands, located just outside the downtown core, houses an arena used for football, soccer and ice hockey. The area around the stadium houses offices, restaurants, shops and some housing. There is also, of course, lots of parking. 58.3 | This Embassy Suites Hotel is where many game-goers stay if they come from out of town. Many residents in Taschereau also stay here, so as not to have to drive home after the game. Many business commuters stay here as well. It is the largest hotel in Southlands. 58.4 | Here we can see a few of the dinning options close to the arena. There are several others located around the arena. 58.5 | What is an arena without loads of parking surrounding it? The majority of parking is surface parking, however there is one parking garage. 58.6 | This is one of the office buildings to be built around the arena. 58.7 | This is a row of shops that draws many people to Southlands Arena Place. More shops of a similar style are being constructed across the street. 58.8 | Here you can see a number of medium-rise condominum buildings which have been constructed. These have been developed by the builder assosciated with Southlands Arena Place, though are mostly not officially part of the complex. Several office buildings have also been constructed. 58.9 | Several large scale construction projects have begun popping up around the Arena Place. These will house several of the first high-rise residential buildings in Southlands. 58.10 | This aerial view of the city shows off a number of construction projects which have all recently started. Also note that the first section of SouthlandsExpress (ElRAIL Service) have opened. 58.11 | And to finish off this update I present you a night shot of the Southlands Arena Place. Enjoy! As always, I hope you enjoyed today's update and are looking forward to more - Don't forget to comment!
