  1. Hopefully this is in the right spot for this topic. My goal is to have this in the most publicly accessible spot for people to jump straight into. Additionally, this topic can be used for similar issues regarding other messengers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So, due to the Discord controversy of them rolling out their "Everyone's a default teenager" logic, there's been some interest in moving over to other messenger programs. Now, one concern is, how will we handle a switch over to a different messenger? And, to clarify, yes, there's going to be issues moving large groups over to another messenger, but the one I'm focused on here, is, how will we handle both of the community Discord servers? Cause we've got both Simtropolis and the SC4Evermore servers. And I'm sure there's others that I'm unaware of, I just know these two to be the biggest and most popular. Of course, there's been a lot of talk of moving a lot of people over to TeamSpeak, but the biggest issue with them is simply the fact that people would need to setup and host their own servers. And I can certainly see some issues regarding that, I wonder if maybe that could be advantageous to the community to some extent? Like, we've already got the STEX and LEX, so, I don't see any particular issues that could prevent us from utilizing the current webservers for TeamSpeak. That said, I am aware that webservers run a bit differently and the rules behind them may prevent something like this without going through some kind of clearance process. I'm just not sure if there's anything particularly technical beyond webhost limitations that would prevent the establishment of something like TeamSpeak. The idea behind this, is that both Simtropolis and Evermore could host their own TeamSpeak servers. Though, I don't know anything about integration, but if possible, we could have those setup so that all you'd have to do is just log into your appropriate account to use them. So, if I wanted to chat with people on the Simtropolis side, I could do that. Alternatively, we could just merge the two parts of the community together into a single one. This of course does come with a combined pressure of 2 sites running off of the same equipment, but also introduces a potentially unwanted effect, of having it centralized. And of course, if it goes down at any point for any reason, we're out that entire messenger service. Now, I know that there was some mention of using Stoat (formerly Revolt), as it seems closest to Discord in it's design. I have been messing around with Stoat for a while cause I remember there was something that came up with Discord a while back that had me start looking into alternatives (I think they were discussing going public with their company at the time), which allowed me to see how it worked out a bit. And it does seem to be the closest to the Discord experience we've known. So, if we're looking for "closest to Discord with least friction" Stoat's probably a good one to go with. I, personally, am not against checking out, exploring, and using other messenger services, but I'm aware that not everyone is going to be all that interested in making 50+ accounts to random programs that may/may not survive the next year. And I'm not trying to force the community into one right now, as we do have some (albeit limited) time to find a good one. My goal with this is to kick off a discussion of what everyone (more or less) is interested in moving over to, as that will help out greatly with reducing the friction regarding moving over. Of course, another idea is, we could find a way to implement a messenger system directly into the websites, allowing people live chatting there. Though, it may not be as robust as something like Discord. And I do remember there being an option for a live chat box on a website, as one of the first forum sites I was on had it and it was pretty fun to use at the time. And if there's a way to implement something along the lines of an RSS feed, then we could easily have a standalone program that would act like Discord, but connect directly to a website that has the chat boxes. Though, with that said, I'm aware that such a thing would be a bit of work due to the programming involved with it. Still, I do think having an integrated chat box on the sites would be good to have. Though, with how we don't have forums on the new Evermore site, it's quite possible only Simtropolis would end up with that. Hopefully I can be proven wrong in that regard. Another key concern, is how exactly would we handle some stuff? Because we've got: basic chat rooms images/memes videos/streams various projects And I feel that some of the projects, we could probably just move over to forums either here or over on Evermore. I do agree with @Ulisse Wolf, along with many others I've seen online on other sites, that Discord's actually done quite a number on information access, and that we're better off with forums for a lot of things. And, at least in regards to the projects, we are going to need a place to keep their development and access to any information that comes up from it. Of course, I'm sure that things like the basic chat rooms and memes can be easily overlooked. Except for the above mentioned issue, in which a ton of information is going to be lost soon due to Discord being such a closed system. Videos and streams will probably be fine, as I don't believe Discord really keeps the streams around, as it's neither Twitch, nor YouTube. But, I do feel that these are still some valid concerns that we should probably begin addressing sooner, rather than later. And the thing is, we might get lucky, and Discord doesn't make a complete and utter mess of things with this implementation. But, if we do get lucky? We absolutely have to take whatever buffer we gained from that and be aggressive with moving everything around, cause that's likely a one-off event. It'll just give us some breathing room long enough to work it out. Additionally, if we do end up merging both the Simtropolis and Evermore groups together, we might be able to relieve some stress on the admin/mod teams, as they won't need to be pulling double/triple duty across so much stuff. Cause we've already got a bunch of people like @Tarkus who's considerably overworked by being a mod/admin on the Evermore site, the Evermore Discord server, being the NAM Team Leader, etc, and this could prove beneficial to where he won't be as overwhelmed. Maybe. It is hard to say given how everything's setup, but we could just move all the admins/mods over from both Discord servers into the new messenger with their same rank without too much fuss (theoretically). Oh, and for any projects where we want to keep the development hidden, if they're moved over to the Simtropolis site proper, we'd need to find out if there's a way to lock forums/forum groups behind certain roles and start giving people roles to allow access to them.   5. A risky undertaking

    The weather in Cashflow was cold and rainy and the skies were cloudy and dark. Just like the minds of the Slacker delegates who met in the city to discuss a new Businesspeople idea. The problem with said "idea" was that Businesspeople wanted to start a tourist and hotel industry in... The Sacred Pond of Forces... The Businesspeople were trying to bail out their ailing town of Dollar Grove which neighbored the holy site. They believed that they could use The Sacred Pond of Forces' appeal and status as a draw for tourists and investments in order to uphold the town's budget. The overwhelming majority of Udananites consider The Pond to be the region's sacrosanct location. What is more, Sulkourbanist religious scriptures clearly indicate that it is forbidden to put any man-made structures within the area of this special place and the surrounding jungle. Having learned of their neighbor's intentions, the Slacker delegation was understandably shaken. It was already afternoon and the meeting was drawing to a close. Both teams were making one last attempt to influence their partners to change their minds. However, it seemed that both tribes were already entrenched in their individual convictions, refusing to reconsider their respective stances. With this statement, the meeting was closed and the delegates stormed out of the conference hall - angry, worried and agitated. The Businesspeople dignitaries returned to Profit Hill on the same evening and reported the fiasco of their talks to their government. However, since the tribe is a resilient and proactive bunch, the government officials have unilaterally decided to try and convince yet another tribe to join them, rather than give up the plan. Slackers are the most frequent visitors to The Sacred Pond of Forces and their extensive knowledge of the local topography and environment was considered to be valuable for any economic plans for the local area. However, since they didn't want to take part in the urban development of The Pond, the next tribe chosen for potential cooperation were the Smileyfaces. Many believed that these long-time allies of the Businesspeople will almost certainly join the project. When both tribes arranged for a conference, the Businesspeople delegation travelled East. This time, to the Smileyface capital of Laughterdale. But when the talks began, it turned out that the Smileyfaces are just as reluctant as Slackers to lend hand to the Businesspeople development plans. Despite excellent relations shared by both tribes, the new meeting turned out to be just as fruitless and disappointing for the authorities in Profit Hill... When both potential partners turned down offers for "promising" economic future, Businesspeople were left on their own when it came to urbanization efforts in The Sacred Pond of Forces. The pleas and warnings voiced by other tribes have fallen on deaf ears and the tribe decided to press on with construction, despite intertribal outcry. This way, first buildings appeared in the New Udananian holy site, including some major hotels and tourism infrastructure... What was once a place of reverence and casual picnic trips, turned into a "fashionable", commercialized venue, straight out of Insta-lifer's wet dream... All in all, many tribes were disappointed by the Businesspeople defiance towards cultural and religious rules of New Udanani. Many of them also fear about possible outcomes that the violation of The Pond may carry. Numerous people also predict some kind of a violent disaster or a divine punishment to strike New Udanani in the near future... (of course, if you feel comfortable sharing it with us?) @Tamijo - Nothing wrong with a little bet in roulette or snail-racing I guess. @Honolulu - Hey, thank you for your visit! Regional play is important and I feel that the highway systems give the incentive to put it into practice. I'm glad you like the hospital area. I guess it certainly makes it a little less stressful for the patients!
  6. A lesson in propaganda

    This episode of the Udananian chronicle starts with a bang! And literally! You may probably remember that The Smileyfaces have been drafting up plans to completely remove, or at least reduce, the area that dirty industry occupies in Laughterdale. The city council officials have recently been under increased pressure to take action after close to 15 years of tolerating dirty industry. Due to this and The Smileyfaces' drive to avoid all things unpleasant, it has finally been ruled that dirty industry will be wiped clean from the town. Of course, in case of this particular tribe, this action could not just be a regular, boring click-and-bulldoze operation. Instead, it has been decided that the polluted area will be removed as part of a firework show and by the means of a short-range rocket strike! Naturally, considerable preparations have taken place to execute this demolition in a safe way - the entire neighborhood has been evacuated and the traffic temporarily stopped. An exclusion zone has been introduced as well, along with spectator stands for the citizens. Once everything has been prepared, a short "farewell ceremony" was held and moments later an Elation-class missile has been fired from the Emo-G Site, landing on its intended target moments later with the nearby crowds cheering on. As eccentric as it sounds, most of The Smileyfaces believe that controlled, urban demolitions are simply fun to watch. What is more, the destruction of the Qualakom neighborhood have, at the end of the day, had many positive results! First of all, the previously dirty industry zone has been thoroughly cleaned up and handed over to promising software and video game startups... This has also helped to encourage population growth in the Eastern part of the town which suffered from low social diversity and transportation issues so far. Luckily, the short distance to attractive employment possibilities have convinced many Smileyfaces to move in. But the missile strike on Qualakom has, metaphorically speaking, sent positive shockwaves far beyond the neighborhood... The increase in software-specialized companies has been especially welcomed by the health services and some of the shops run by The Smileyfaces. For example, the Laughterdale's main clinic, has finally been able to upgrade to a well-equipped, modern hospital due to the recent change. The highly intuitive patient monitoring software and automated examination equipment have made it possible to admit and evaluate far more ailing Udananites than has previously been possible. Because of this, wealthy doctors and IT engineers have also found employment in the new hospital as well as homes close to their new, innovative workplace. Grinburg (sometimes referred to as "The Smileyfaces' Marketplace") has capitalized on the new opportunities as well. Since new software and IT solutions provided by hi-tech businesses have to be sold somewhere, offices and shops in this town have upgraded to accommodate more customers and gain more shelf space for the newest software. While everything is definitely going well for The Smileyfaces, some analysts insist that the recent missile strike resembles a classic show of force... On the other hand, some evidence suggests that the tribe has long been researching the use of munitions for peaceful, engineering purposes, akin to the goals anticipated by Project Plowshare. Some experts, however, indicate that dirty industry, which The Smileyfaces resent, is still a feature of many Udananian towns, including those on the Activator territory... This may possibly lead to potentially problematic confrontations between the two tribes. It seems like a plausible scenario if one reviews the findings gathered by The Laughterdaelian Signal... As if that wasn't enough JoySoft, one of The Smileyfaces' new game developers, have recently released a really impressive but highly controversial strategy game... The problem is that the main villain's name and the story presented in the game clearly allude to The Activators tribe and the complicated relations that they are likely to share with their neighbors from the South... Due to that, the first game in the "Command & Compare" series is liked by The Smileyfaces but considered "weird" elsewhere... FRONT COVER: BACK COVER: Quite understandably, The Activators have not been too happy with the convoluted Smileyface propaganda. Although some outrage about "Laughterdaelian Sun" has been felt, the tribe figured that it is better to let the sleeping dogs lie and focus on the geological research in Industrious Hills instead. However, to The Activators' delight, the Nadir Mining Company did counter react to JoySoft's game by issuing a batch of their own posters... The following graphical design, which is essentially a recruitment advertisement, praises Activator style of life, while mocking The Smileyfaces' unconditional pursuit of fun and laughter at the same time... As of today it is still unclear what The Smileyfaces think about the picture but the general consensus among The Activators is that it was a necessary and valuable statement. One way or another, the important news is that the Activator researchers have managed to find some mineral deposits in the Dal Xanth Hills landmass, just as it has been anticipated. In the recent months, some rudimentary mining facilities started to develop there. Some of these facilities belong to the already mentioned Nadir Mining Company... While those laying in the lower parts of the hills, are under Acti-UD ltd.'s control. The new economic possibilities and the fact that the minerals discovered in the hills may be used in road and housing construction, have allowed certain improvements to take place in both Buildmoar and Industrious Hills. For example, the Eastern ramp leading onto the Designers' Bridge have been rebuilt into a more gentle (and suspension-friendly) road. As it turned out, certain pieces of the mining equipment called "Hole diggers and raiser lots" could be successfully used to fine-tune road inclines... The job possibilities offered by mining industry have also drawn new citizens into Industrious Hills. Perhaps not surprisingly, materials excavated from the new mining sites have been used in the construction of new housing, greatly reducing the cost of this undertaking. Buildmoar has also been positively affected, as the development of mining industry has increased the need for administrative and industrial services to do proper accounting and process raw goods into useable building materials. As such, the economy, already considered a successful one, have accelerated again. The Activators' talent at fast, dynamic development is an object of envy for many Udananites. The pace at which they run their two towns is indeed impressive and an example of how chaos can sometimes be a highly creative power if used skillfully. But analysts and environmental watchdogs across Udanani seem to be particularly worried about the development of mining industry - the very reason for The Activators' recent successes. Several independent experts have voiced concerns over the environmental impact that the mining activities may have on the nearby environment. Some problems are already evident after all. For example, the dust and sand, byproducts of the mining processes, are not being disposed of in a responsible manner and instead lie strewn around the mines. In some cases, they are even chucked over the side of Dal Xanth Hills, completely burying the vegetation and grass in some spots. The biggest problem is that The Activators consider these dumps to also be a form of development and refuse to dispose of the waste materials responsibly, making the environmental damage more likely... With just a few simple steps, all Simtropolis members can join our live Discord chat and gain access to private channels for Cities: Skylines, SimCity 4, SimCity 2013 and general chatter. Prerequisites To join our Discord chat, you will first need to have a verified Discord account. You can sign up for a Discord account (it's free!) here. I won't compile a new .exe file for SimCity, there's already one. 2. I am looking for people and modders that still want to mod the game. By remaking a game with mods, we have been used to create them with our own pattern. Patterns are 2 or 3 years old on SimCity 2013. As time goes, new things are discovered. Instead of just throwing the modifications, I'll implement the layer and modify it as well so it's goig to be adapted for the mod in question. //!!// Performances are going to be a number 2 on our list//!!// Our current criterias for releasing a mod are : tests, detailed description, support offered for the mod, updates for the mod. So far, many mods, a game who is limited in terms of modding but... Someone once a day said There is, and will always be a place for improvement. So what's gonna be changed mostly are the LOD (Level of detail), draw distance and a little bit of genius tweaks into the game. : : DLC Mods : : Okay, we all know the very classy mod itself. But what about an optional addon for it? Yes you heard me! A pack in a pack! Which isn't required! Why? I feel like many people wants something else than THAT and having to dig for something more in their tastes. WAIT!!! Building styles are a new feature that will be added to the project. So ya better keep an eye here! : : Placement rethink-ed : : So far, playing SimCity can be too difficult or too easy for some players. Most of the time, you spend half of your time planning the city. But... Who the heck thought of a COAST ONLY PLACEMENT for water things (eg electric power plants?! I actually plan on making the seas a lot better... let expand the topic here just a bit... so what's planned is to add water depth and implement the wind into many water plops. EG: Wave power plant will now use wind alongside with water depth in order to produce electricity. Water depth will be used as a factor of it's placement. So the game will tell us if it overlaps a tunnel etc. : : Whole CONTROLNET usage REVIEWED + OmegaCo : : ControlNet, huh? Sweet name! Too hard to produce, not spreading enough. Too much for current needs. Well, once you get the trick to make it, you have a great excess. OmegaCo... what's that used for again?(Still sounds "chinese") Oh yeah... helping commercial facilities. That will be reworked as well. Through the last months, I have seen many users saying/complaining that the resources layers are buggy. Well, I'm going to be honest with you, the layers are very minimalistic. Eg : slow update rate, colors grading are used most of the time... When you look at a layer, you need to be able to quickly notice a hiccup. With colors grading it can be a bit slow. And some of us are visual! •What will be changed for layers : - Colors - Faster update rate. - Integrated detailed UI mods from Maxis user here. (Detailed worker in rollover and purple line for industries). Aaaaaaaand now... the most UNEXPECTED CHANGES HERE ARE : Battery packs for power generators Mods for DLCs! A whole New user interface! Native implementation of Multiplopper Pheww... that's a lot to do!!!
