BAT - Getting Started Guide / FAQ / Resources / Help
EffTheGrid replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Thanks JP! I basically flattened it all out, followed your steps (reversed all and copied one by one) and I have a usable product. Didn't take too long, and the projected textures reappeared just as you said. I appreciate your guidance. -

Hey all, another Queens property I repurposed from the 3dWarehouse. It's located in Long Island City. It's a right corner property with mixed use in the front, and a warehouse and auto body shop around the corner. 2x3 C$ with 58 jobs, NY/Chi tilesets No dependencies/no lights -

Thanks for the suggestion, but the model uses a projected texture so the mapping gets removed. Not the result I'm looking for. I'm following guidance from here... mixed results. https://forums.sketchup.com/t/matching-front-and-back-face-colors/99665/6 Trying to copy the textures front AND back... so then I can reverse the necessary faces and have them appear in the model. But doing "MATback2front" yields this -

EffTheGrid replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Hi. Don't know if this is off-topic, because I model in Sketchup, but I've run into an annoying roadblock that seems like it might have a one-step solution. I imported this model from the 3d warehouse and modified it a bunch before I realized all the faces are inside-out. So basically I'm asking: is there a way I can copy all the materials to both sides of their faces? Hope somebody here might know because I really don't want to bin this one. -

Hey all. Some quick warehouses I have repurposed from the 3dWarehouse. These are demolished buildings in Long Island City. Includes 3 growable I-M lots 3x4 // 21-21 44th Rd // 62 jobs $$ 2x2 // Dutch Kills Lumber // 42 jobs $$ 2x2 // Hunters Point Warehouse // 46 jobs $$ No dependencies, no lights (they are closed at night anyway lol) I am not accepting criticism on these lots because I made them very quickly and for personal use. Uploading so others can enjoy them as well. -

Thanks Tarkus! I appreciate your responsiveness and proclivity for helping the userbase. Retaining this functionality will be the cherry on top of a very cool update. A sincere thank you for the hours and the hard work.

I heard my name. Hope you haven't already found all of these, but these are on the tip of my tongue. Stickmann Warehouse --check out more by Prepo Coca Cola Nordic HQ or Keksi Pasila by Krio (plus more diagonals) Pensjonat Zgoda by moto.kloss (also get the hospital for the obtuse angle) Shibuya 109 Dentsu (very high density) and check if Matt has made something for this angle. I'm sure he has by now. If there's something specific you'd like to see, throw a request my way. New York is my vernacular but I'm open to different styles. I love diagonals! Promise I'll make something taller soon

Aww I use these extensively in my networks. Yay! Thanks again NAM team! Will these improvements come in the next release? I know you don't like to disclose release cycles, and updates have been very frequent lately, but I do use single-tile diagonal NWM a lot in my cities. So losing functionality for those networks would mess a few of my tiles up. Should I wait to download? I'm very excited about the triple stack though!! Looks like a huge update for sure

Midtown Manhattan Pt. 2
EffTheGrid commented on TheOlympics's City Journal Entry in New York City A City Journal
This update looks spectacular, can't believe I'm just looking at it now! I've been working and living within Hell's Kitchen for a few years now and it's lovely to see it in game. The scale and nuance are quite accurate! Looks really good, especially the area around 42nd Street looks about as accurate as you can get it!- 15 Comments

Now that I have them in the game, I get the feeling I should throw some "less drab" ones into this set... based on Passaic, NJ as it stands, the pack reminds me a bit of squid world. lol

You are absolutely right! I can't believe I didn't catch that before I rendered them out. I'll be sure to look out for what is causing that effect (I think it's just a result of lazily/hastily copying the textures to the dormers) I'll probably just upload them as-is since the effect is only very noticeable at zoom level 5, and there would be 12 lit recolors to deal with. I'll stay away from built in garages for R$ in the future. But I really wanted to do those houses with the basement garage because they are pretty nifty ( and they exist IRL!) and there's nothing like that in-game yet, afaik. Plus, that area is probably considered R$$$ now..... much changes over a lifetime, I suppose.

Thanks for your opinions on my upcoming set of homes. Are these a bit more R$ looking for everyones' taste?

Hi all, working on these after some time away (busy with IRL stuff lately) I'd like some opinions: what growth stage should these be? R$ medium density perhaps? Let me know Hudson Houses

Need a house? How about 2 at once? Download includes 2 R$$ lots, 3 recolors of the home with nightlights. They house 24 sims each and appear at stage 3/4 on Chi/NY tilesets This is a rather dutiful recreation of some homes in Palisades Park, NJ. I named them after Fort Lee, NJ because that's where I thought they were when I started modelling them, lol. But this type of house can be found over the place in metro NJ/NY. Additionally, I think these are fourplexes. So the whole file name is wrong! (Does anyone else find it pretty funny that the 2 major Koreatowns in Bergen County actually have Korean surnames? Fort Lee, Palisades Park? I crack myself up. Anyway enjoy the thing- 7 Reviews

Break the grid!!! This is a flatiron-type building for the intersection of an ortho network and the FA2 road. It's based on a residential building on the south end of Bradhurst Ave in Harlem, NYC. Download includes: 2 recolors, left and right rotations. 1x1 landmark lots (overhanging props occupy ~1x3) No lights this time. Flood the comments with your complaints lol Productive approach: hit me up with better ways to do nightlighting. I do it by adding "nite_" manually to each individual window pane and it is painstaking. Tips welcome -
In my experience, 3 inches is enough to stop z-fighting. This is really cool stuff. You're pioneering something right here... I hope you upload them to the exchange one day. Very convincing Chicago vibe! I'd love to do Queens with the same "technology"

You did this really really well! How'd you do the alleyways? Are the houses growable? How'd you get the power lines? I'm thinking about releasing a set of houses with back alley support by way of requiring roads on the front and back, similar to a corner lot setup, just front and back instead of front and R/L. Any thoughts on that method vs the way you did this? Huge thumbs up.
