Kaskaskia | Hello, My Name Is Kaskaskia | Do You Smell Smoke?
Bluthlucidity commented on KCJC's City Journal Entry in Insulo and Kaskaskia
Tense! If there's anything I adore in a CJ it's slick photo editing skills and you did not disappoint. Great job! -
Brilliant! Your contributions speak for themselves, drunkapple. Your maps put you in the upper echelons of uploaders; you're one of those people who've helped turn SC4 in to something much bigger than it ever was. Credit is due for making this map, even if GMT noted that almost a third of it is unplayable lol! I think the size of the map puts a lot in context...it really reminds me how far the community has stretched the possibilities of this game. With the new sequel coming out soon a lot of casual and part time players (and I imagine a lot of full time players too) will drift away. Really I think we're in the heady final days of BATting for SC4. Better enjoy it while it lasts!

very similar to an ingame building but I can't remember the name right now...I think it usually pops up as "Boutique." Low density CS$$$, in one of the modern tilesets iirc. If you used that building as a starting point when designing this then bravo, it provided good material to work with. The design and execution are solid, the colours however are quite saturated and could be toned down some. Details, details, details too. The details on this one are quite chunky. Just look at the horizontal bulges on the facade, irl those would stick out like six or seven feet. And on the glass section those metal fins would be comically oversized. That's one thing you need to work on: refining the scale and textures of your work. You've come a long way, don't stop improving your output.

The heavily rusticated stonework and eclectic Victorian design are a gorgeous combination. Unfortunately it doesn't translate as nicely in the game: the whole project looks a bit cartoony. And whats with the two off-centre doors? You'd be hard-pressed to find a pre-war courthouse with an entrance like that. Minor issues though, I'll be downloading this in a couple seconds make no doubt about it. You'd done an excellent job with this.

It is overscaled, look at the fire-escapes on the back...I thought those were balconies until I noticed the ladder with the poorly spaced rungs. Nothing majorly wrong with this project, you've almost got it nailed down perfectly in fact. There are, however, lots of smaller issues with this one. Just as noticeable as the overscaling is the chunky (and poorly textured) surface details. Put all of them together and you wind up with an effect that's more funhouse than historical, and that really stands out during gameplay. For turn-of-the-century highrises you can really make the most out of a graceless design; most tall buildings of the time were completed before skyscraper design was a common thing, and they show it through varied fenestration and extravagent use of pilasters and cornices and other surface details. 234 Main has a very busy design: those raised sections that criss-cross and form a grid along the sides are too deep and blocky to be seriously viewed as historical. If you were to update this (and I hope you do) you could exaggerate this and create a decadent post-modern design, or you could refine it and make it fit its tileset. And if you're going for luxury make the building luxurious. There isn't much you can do with something like a dazzling cornice (a feature best viewed from below anyway) but you could easily spruce up the main floor and add some flourishes. The skylights are a nice touch but four is too many and they all look the same. Anyway I like what you do, and I like your output. I'm assuming that you like what you do too, and that you want to continually refine your method. I know that's the case and I want you to do better, which is why I'm giving you a far more detailed critique than I do for most works, even the ones I absolutely adore. Keep up the good work!

Update 1: Introductions + Retail 'Dilemma'
Bluthlucidity commented on simlink's City Journal Entry in Holt
Pretty slick, and I second Ion_Cannon when I say that you could use some more custom content. Great use of the mall btw. Keep it up! -
Your best work yet! You've shown consistent improvement in the six years that you've been here, favouring continual, methodical refinement over quantity and it really shows. This is something special. Finally an original piece that pays homage to real life structures without aping them. I can tell you've put a lot of effort in to this.

Man with a bit of work on the textures, lot, an nightlighting this could be a fantastic BAT. You've done a great job with the modelling. In fact you could up the size and make it a larger tower. It's a bit of a cross between the Citigroup Center and the Federal Reserve building in Boston. Great style and a great first BAT, please keep it up!

T Wrecks made some good points, the only thing really holding this back is the texturing and maybe some model work on the actual stadium structure. But what an excellent bat, and regardless of the textures I'm downloading this and definitely using it. A great addition to any western style city, thanks!

3. V a San Carlos and Plaza Nueva
Bluthlucidity commented on SC4L0ver's City Journal Entry in The empire of Nueva Iberia
I'll ask something we're all curious to know: what IS that massive building and where did you get it? Is it purely fictional or is it based off a real edifice? It looks like quite a few large public structures from the 50s. Almost Soviet. And the Post Office too, that's a beaut. -

Hands down the most impressive post I've ever seen on Simtropolis. Absolutely incredible what you did with post-effects and same goes for the presentation.- 15 Comments

I don't want to run the risk of getting banned, but this BAT is of such breathtakingly fresh design that I can't help but swear. Let's just say this work is schmucking gorgeous. It's so schmucking gorgeous that I can't think of what else to say. Finally, FINALLY, a truly contemporary urban design that ISN'T mid-century modern, that ISN'T conservative po-mo, that ISN'T ultra-modern glassy, that ISN'T amateur box crap. This looks like a modern fire station in Las Vegas. Or Houston. Or maybe Calgary, Atlanta, Sydney, Dover, Milan, etc. This is a shockingly fresh design for Simptropolis, and part of it's appeal for me is that it manages to be JUST generic enough to be realistic and yet JUST realistic enough to seem like a reproduction. You've done something that's quite simple and quite simply nucking futs, thanks a bunch Bipin.

Mitterburg - the capital
Bluthlucidity commented on Langtan's City Journal Entry in Grafschaft Mitterburg
My only issue is how barren the city proper looks...one of the downsides of building around lots of angled streets. That issue is peanuts when compared to the rest of what you did here. Simply incredible is the best way to describe it. You've taken standard and custom content and done something beautiful with it. Great job, really great job. -

Credit goes to Debussyman for the BATs and double the credit to you for creating this masterpiece of French/German style. Stunning work!
