  1. Version 3.1.0

    589 Downloads

Lots for commercial, industrial, education and recycling. Version 3 These lots were made by a typing monkey... McCormick & Co. Classic Industry, Commerce and Civics. One of my favorite buildings on the LEX is this legacy BAT. The original masterpiece is a high-density manufacturing building. It was modded further as a Ministry of Power and as a Ministry of Garbage, both of which give relevant stats in their query windows, adding some more user-interface to the game. One must sign in to the SC4D LEX in order to download the model for both 'ministries', each of which are on the STEX. This download makes it a further useful BAT to have in the plugins folder. __________________________________________ *** This download has been updated. See the Changelog at the bottom of the page. *** __________________________________________ There are 9 lots in this download. Each lot is separate so any or all may be selected. 4 3x4 and 1 4x4 lots are relots of McCormick & Co. Each lot is unique, only the building is the same. 1.) Plop-able re-lot for IM with 1200 jobs, Landmark menu. 2.) Plop-able re-lot for Cs$$ with 1200 jobs, Landmark menu. 3.) Re-lot as a Museum of Industry, capacity 2000, Civics Education menu 4.) Re-lot as a Technical School, capacity 2600, Civics Education menu 5.) Re-lot as a Recycling Center, 65% reduction for 35000 residents, Utilities Sanitation menu. __________________________________________ The next lot uses a couple of Maxis' best mansions for a commercial showpiece. 6.) SimCity Neighborhood Pub & Grill, and Simtopia Architectural Design on the same lot, Cs$$ with 300 jobs, Landmark Menu. School Bus Props 7.) 1 4x4 lot that adds to the Education Menu an extended version of the Museum of Industry with a parking area featuring school buses, 8.) 1 4x5 lot. Simtopia Elementary School educates sims in utilizing their artificial cybernetic world. This school is advanced in that all Occupant Groups for education are included, meaning that a wide range of students attend, giving it a significant education boost across the city and high capacity. EQ Boost: 50. Capacity: 3500. Generates ice-cream truck automata. (There is no School bus generator) __________________________________________ The following gem is a favorite classic on the STEX. It was used here as an example to code the Cs$$ files above. The Barnacle Seafood Restaurant https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/1722-the-barnacle-seafood-restaurant/ 9.) A re-lot is included in this download which increases the Cs$$ to 184 jobs and adds a bit of anti-pollution, park and landmark effects, otherwise the original masterpiece is untouched __________________________________________ Image Descriptions: 1.) Title 2.) Industrial and Commercial 3.) Civics, Museum and College 4.) Utilities, Recycling Center 5.) SimCity Neighborhood Pub, Simtopia Architectural 6.) Museum and College Age Efficiency Graphs --The museum educates more generally over greater time than the college 7.) Night-lighting 8.) Simtopia Elementary School featuring school buses. __________________________________________ Dependencies: For the first 5 lots the only dependency is the model file: MSZ_MODEL_McCormick_and_Company.dat Which will be .exe installed into the folder: Documents/SimCity4/Plugins/marcszar/McCormick and Company MSZ McCormick and Company BSC (v1.0) https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1412 The original download indicates further dependencies which are not necessary for this download, unless one wants to use the original grow-able lot. The two 'ministries' each have further dependencies, also not necessary for this download. The 6th and 7th lots require: bldgprop_vol1.dat bldgprop_vol2.dat These files are required for many user-creations on the STEX which re-lot Maxis buildings usually found in the Landmarks menu. They should be placed in the SimCity 4 installation Plugins subfolder. Maxis Files for SimCity 4 https://community.simtropolis.com/sc4-maxis-files/ __________________________________________ The 7th and 8th lots feature school bus props from the three files below. One may chose either or all, or even none, but without the props the parking lots will be mostly empty: School Bus Props (optional) American School Bus Prop Pack https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/31279-american-school-bus-prop-pack/ School bus - 1997 AmTran https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/22008-school-bus-1997-amtran/ Replacement School Bus https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/25717-replacement-school-bus/ __________________________________________ Above-mentioned 'ministries' : DEDWD Ministry of Garbage https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/16558-dedwd-ministry-of-garbage/ Ministry of Power https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/19898-ministry-of-power/ __________________________________________ Here is a reference of the SimCity 4 management structure for modifications and game orientation Mayor Budgets, Taxes, Ordinances and Neighbor Deals Residential Commercial Industrial Low, Med and High Density $, $$, $$$ $, $$, $$$ Agr. 2. Industrial Slope Effect Fix

This is an interesting first contribution to the STEX. At first I thought it was about dealing with the ugly retaining walls in SC4, but the improvement to the simulator toward more practical use is important. Here on ST many glitches in the original program have been revealed, and it becomes part of the hobby to correct them. The philosophy of Will Wright seems to be that all industry is bad, but such a view is dysfunctional in the real world.
  3.  Today's project is sitting here reading the BAT essentials tutorial from ST and staring at the GMAX interface. I tried this several years ago and got overwhelmed by the backward compatibility issues in just getting to the beginning of making functional model files with a 64bit system, so here we go again.

As I remember, It was like going back in time to the ancient world and trying to figure-out how to build stone pyramids with a brain educated in the modern world.

Those geniuses back then only had plumb bobs and set squares and some Pythagorean math and Euclidean space  (geometry), and look at what they achieved without calculus, algebra, trigonometry, particle physics, laws of gravity, motion and thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and relativity.

6000 years later, and still today, the best engineers can't figure-out the exact construction specifications of the Great Pyramids, and the legacy of the Pharaohs lives on.

    Practical Application

    GMAXLOC environment variable not found.

GMAXLOC environment variable is re-set to C:\gmax\

The BAT program is hard-coded to look for GMAX in C:\gmax\.

    NO plug-in directory was found:
    3DSMAX

    gmax failed to start

The B.A.T. self installs in the GMAX directory gmax\gamepacks  This is where to make the 3DSMAX folder.

The B.A.T. now loads as a plugin of GMAX with no further errors.

Before beginning to follow the tutorial it must be determined that this setup will load and save .3DS files in format required for making models that SC4 will recognize. The STEX has some .3DS files that can be used to test the setup.

If I remember correctly this is where things got overly convoluted. There are three extensions associated to the process .gmax .3ds and .SC4Model

The open file function only allows .gmax and the import function only allows .3ds and .prj  Seems to be a bad sign that .SC4Model is not listed, and not in Save As either. The Export function only allows .PD3    At what point then is a .SC4Model file generated?

The next step is to put away the tutorial and cease learning to use the B.A.T until it can be verified that all programs required are available and operational. The only good part is that the B.A.T. part is not too complicated this time around. Simply, its a 3D drawing program. SimCity is not a game; its a city-planning, building and management simulator.

Further researching on ST and elsewhere, I could find nothing giving a technical explanation of the structure of files and their function.  I'm at the same impasse I was before, and it was so long ago I forget the explanation that was given to me by somebody that understood structure of process.

Structure of Process (Systems Theory and Cybernetics)

Coming back to the philosophy regarding the history of engineering. We began with ancient stone temples and the greatest engineering done since was the Apollo lunar landing(s). From a bioscience POV, that was one small step for a great ape and one giant leap for an evolving planet. Physicists see nature's beauty; biologists see her truth. Engineers see the mechanics of both. (Neil Armstrong was educated as an Engineer)

The SOP model described by Linda Glassop (2007) opens up a way of looking at anything by considering:

    1. What the thing is composed of (the structures that distinguish it),
    2. How the thing is composed (the organization of the parts), and
    3. That a whole thing is an organized structure (the process of comprising the parts).

    The Domain of Life

    domain_of_life.jpg

Darwin statue, Natural History Museum, London

The model's name is Tovah, which is Hebrew meaning God is Good. The African Lion's name is Panethera Leo, referring to his species' classification in biology,

    Human Origins

The greatest of the great apes fell out of the trees and confronted the lions. Man probably was inspired to verbalize himself talking to the BIG cat. The ape lost his hair (alopecia) and needed to learn how to make loincloth. Not lion cloth made from lion skin, but loincloth made from plant fiber and the skins of the herbivores the carnivores eat.

Think of how frustrating it must be for the males of other higher evolved mammals. They can't talk to their females. (No wonder they roar so loud). Nature's greatest masterpiece of evolution was the development of language skills in homo sapiens, and by which civilization, arts, science and technology have advanced to today.

The BIG picture question is why did the lion allow the human female to evolve?  The lions could have easily devoured hominids to extinction. What does she know that I don't know about the workings of nature? Einstein said, "Look deep into nature and you will understand things better."

da Vinci pulled what would be effective to at least 7 PhDs in today's world. He spent 4 years looking at Lisa del Giocondo. The models today are the daughters of the Darwinian Academy,  superior in refined qualities of form and function to the daughters of the Ancient Platonic Academy.

    Practical Insight

My God, That Panthera Leo is so civilized he won't attack any female that reminds him of his own, and his female is so merciful she won't attack any species that reminds her of her own.

The B.A.T. will have to wait because I'm lacking the clairvoyance required to read the minds of the ancients sufficient to composing the specifications for building (monolithic) stone temples.

    Conclusion

Bioscience isn't very romantic, but its kind of sexy.  The only reason why humans exist is because some sexually dimorphic gametes selected each other to recombine their chromosomes (sexual selection), and whatever offspring were generated at least sustained functionality of the species in its natural ecosystem (natural selection).

Take this Prescription of Science. May it Serve you well.

All things must evolve or perish. The Cosmos, the Earth, the species, and even for civilization there is only either evolution or destitution. Evolution is the structure of process of all physical law differentiating and integrating from the quadratic functions of high and low, positive and negative entropy into the composition of all that was, is, or ever will be.

"We are the highest achievement reached so far by the great constructors of evolution.

We are their 'latest' but certainly not their last word."

    --Konrad Lorenz,  zoologist and ethologist.

This report seemed to need some examples of Darwin's vision

    Vision

"There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved."

-Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species, 1859

One thing the great physicists are renowned for is expression of vision.  Can you see Einstein's universe? Isn't it amazing?  The vision of biology is obviously closer to the human condition. Potentially, the comprehension of the model of reality of evolution may fill the soul with valuation of self-identity and purpose in common existence with all living things, proceeding to heal the mind of isolation and the insanity of a world disconnected from nature.

    Self-Actualization

❝Man with all his noble qualities, with sympathy which feels for the most debased, with benevolence which extends not only to other men but to the humblest living creature, with his god-like intellect which has penetrated into the movements and constitution of the solar system — with all these exalted powers — Man still bears in his bodily frame the indelible stamp of his lowly origin.❞

--Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, 1871

    Commendation

It should be noted as well that some of the most eminent physicists usually cite Darwin as a superior (Erwin Schrödinger is one example). Darwin may be referred to as the greatest scientist of all time given the magnitude of work he did and its impact on all science. One may even go as far as saying that Darwin founded modern science in terms of 20th century developments.

I compiled this graphic for my own essays, but it may be freely used by high school, college or university arts or science students in their reports on the work of the Great One. He certainly achieved much for a being sharing 98.6% of their genes with a chimpanzee.

'Origin of Species' is not too difficult to read and understand with at least a high school grade 10-12 or 1st year college education in biology, and is, at the same time qualified all the way up to the post-doctorate level  Below is a link to the Gutenberg Project's free online publication, and where one may find a collection of many other classics of science and literature.

  4. Victorian Workshops

Installed the residential, commercials and industrials. These blend well with Maxis and other user content. Where there is no obvious night-lighting, the contrast and lamp-posts are enough to blend in. Some smaller lots for industrials would be great. The color is not too saturated or bright so these are quite nice to look at in-game. The sharpness doesn't interfere with the shadiness in other buildings, but adds an extra appeal, highlighting the architectural form.
  5. Victorian Row Houses MegaPack 01

I usually run SC4 with the shadow setting on low to save memory and keep the processor cool. At first I was confused because the download is 56.59 MB. It was a relief to discover the actual .dat file for the models is only 4,598, and the rest of the files are screenshots. I agree, these are preferable to shaded BATs. I don't think SC4 is intended to be photo-realistic anyway. As far as I know SC4 graphics are 256 color., or if not, they look like 256. So I think what you've done is make SC4 more true to itself graphically. The sharpness makes the architectural design more interesting than with any added shadiness.
This is the first real world map I've seen on the STEX that is excellent for city-building, especially with 4x4 tiles. I suppose that explains how NYC grew from its 17th Century beginnings. As a historical note, the original settlement, New Amsterdam, was about the same size as the two tiles covering lower Manhattan, so this map is also accurate for historical-city--building.
Couldn't help writing a review after seeing them in-game. Nice work. I switched them over to the Misc. Transport menu with other parking. (The landmark menu gets so long).
  6. TL-DM Old Passenger Rail Station (4x5)

Nice re-lot of one of Don Miguel's re-lotting masterpieces. The Independence hall works so well as a train station.
  7. Norfair Corporation

The plopable window doesn't have a search function so thought it would be useful to mention this lot is found under Stage 8 (CO$$ 3x4).
  8. Lot Editor Expanded Preview Panel

This is a great mod making the LE a LOT more enjoyable and practical to use. Thanks.
  9. solarpunk Olivia-4 (tour)

Nicely selected terrain map and texture caught my attention. Enjoyed the lavish eco-layout and related philosophy. Looking forward to the night scenes.
  10. East Central Wisconsin Part 12: Green Bay

It makes it interesting to combine photos with the SC4 re-creation. I suppose 'toilet paper' is the ultimate symbol of civilization. So now when I think of Wisconsin, I think of beer and toilet paper.
  11. SimCity Taxi Company

    Version 3.1.0

    566 Downloads

Transit-enabled taxi and bus stop with automata generators. Version 3.0 Long ago I worked the night-shift as a big-city cab dispatcher so this lot creation is a bit of nostalgia. Suffice to say, in the wee-hours of the night, the clientele in the cab business gets very interesting. As quoted from the 'Taxi Driver' movie, All the animals come out at night. ________________________________________________________________ *** This download was updated. See the Changelog at the bottom of the page.. *** ________________________________________________________________ There are 3 2x2 lots, 1 1x2, and 1 3x3 lot in this download 1.) The basic lot with bus and taxi access and no transit-enabled road running through. Technically, all the lots are transit-enabled, meaning they all dispatch buses and taxis. 2.) A transit-enabled lot which must be connected to a road on 2 sides, and can be placed inline with a road. Cars, buses and taxis will flow through. The transit switch allows pedestrians to exit or enter cars, taxis and buses from the lot. 3.) A 2x2 transit-enabled lot as above with Cobble-stone base texture. 4.) A 1x2 version of the Maxis textured lot, also functions as a bus stop and only requires one side, any side, as all the lots, for automata to access. 5.) A 3x3 Commercial lot with large parking area. Doesn't function as a bus stop but generates taxi automata and employs 380 persons. ________________________________________________________________ Vital Stats: Maintenance Cost: 100§ Transit Capacity: 1500 for first 2x2 lots, 2000 for the Cobblestone version, and 1000 for the 1x2 version. ________________________________________________________________ Image Descriptions: 1.) Title 2.) Lot 1. Parking area taxi stand and bus stop withouit a road connection 3.) Lot 2. Parking area taxi stand and bus stop with a road connection. 4.) Lot 3. Parking area taxi stand and bus stop with a road connection. Cobblestone- textured 5.) Lot 3. Night-lighting Lot 4. Not shown. 6.) Lot 5. 3x3 commercial services lot with no bus stop. Generates taxi automata and employs 380 persons. ________________________________________________________________ Dependencies: There are no mandatory dependencies. Taxi props are included. The following file may also be used in effect of seeing more taxis lining up to pick up and drop off pedestrians. Of the first 4 lots, the 1st, 2nd and 4th lots use Maxis textures so require no dependencies, and the 3rd lot uses a Cobble-stoned base texture found below --to add a bit of antiquity. Cobble Stoned Base Texture https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33759-cobble-stoned-base-texture/ The following mod may be used to make the surroundings flush with the 3rd taxi lot. It adds a 1x1 filler to the the top of the parks menu. Cobble Stone Filler (1x1) https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/34292-cobble-stone-filler-1x1/ ________________________________________________________________ Lot Construction 1.) A blank model was placed in the Documents/SimCity/Plugins folder following the instructions found in the BLaM Blank download. https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/17996-blam-blank/ 2.) The .SC4Desc file was made using the extended version of plugin manager. SC4 PIM (v1.0) https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2260 The following file may be needed to load the SC4 PIM. The file is easily found online for free. Note that it must be placed in the Windows System folder, that is, not the System32 folder (place it in both folders for any other purposes). MSVCP71.dll 3.) Then the Lot Editor was used to make the lot(s). Both the Lot Editor and the Maxis Plugin Manager can be found below, but the extended version of the PIM found above is far easier to use. https://community.simtropolis.com/sc4-maxis-files/ The lot editor user-interface may be improved with the following file: Lot Editor Expanded Preview Panel https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33900-lot-editor-expanded-preview-panel/ 4.) Next, the Taxi Maker occupant group was added using the iLive reader. https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/21343-ilive-reader-093/ Taxi Maker Occupant Group: 0x00001903 With this OG added, taxis will appear immediately in-game. The Maxis default taxi automata are not as readily noticeable as the yellow taxi automata, and any other taxi automata than that listed above will work. 5.) LEProp was used to add the title, description and icon to the lot, as well as for defining characteristics such as maintenance cost and how much power and water the lot uses (not too much). LEProp 1.62 https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/21350-leprop-162/ An icon template can be found below. It should be converted to a .png file for use with LEProp. Icon Template (Paint.net) https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/34563-icon-template-paintnet/ 6.) Finally, SC4Tool was used to transit enable the lot(s). https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/21368-sc4tool-english/ ________________________________________________________________ Conclusion: Its seems complicated, but not so much when you familiarize yourself with each program and follow the steps one by one in sequence. The secret to success is to not get frustrated with the quirks of each program; perseverance and patience will triumph. (mentionable quirks include ILive reader not giving an option as to which open file to save, and sometimes an icon in LeProp must be repeat-loaded and saved in order to appear. Also, the LE tends to easily crash as more lots and props are added.) So put on your cab dispatching cap and get those animals safely to their zoo habitats. When you answer the phone just say, SimCity Cabs. ________________________________________________________________ About Taxi Automata Taxis are a form of transportation available in the SimCity series. Taxis usually spawn only around rail stations and airports, although occasionally they can be seen elsewhere in the city. Like its real-life counterpart, the taxi is not a form of mass transit and taxis are usually run by private companies, therefore, taxi fares will not be included into your mass transit taxation panel. Taxis in the game are simply for aesthetic value, as they do not transport passengers, and sims do not use taxis as a method of transportation. Version 2.1.0

    143 Downloads

Version 2 including a 256 grayscale-indexed bitmap manually created from the SC4M formatted image. This map is in SC4M format and SC4 Mapper is required to render the file into a region. The map is designed for building region networks, including ferries, highways, and rail(s). The intended use is for experimenting with traffic flow toward maximizing network efficiency within and across cities. This download may help to get acquainted with Maxis networks preliminary to using the Network Addon Mod (NAM). ________________________________________________________________________ About SC4 Mapper With SC4M the user can create region maps from regions in the game. Using the terraforming tools one can build their own region and then share it, or archive it, in SC4M format. Regions already containing cities can be used to create blank regions with the same terrain. SC4 Mapper 2013 (v1.0) https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2880 ________________________________________________________________________ In order to make the game easy enough to experiment with, the following mods were used: Super Demand Mod (max-out all demand) https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/22391-super-demand-mod-not-demand-ordinance/ Cousin Vinnie Ordinance (200,000§ per month) https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/13382-cousin-vinnie-ordinance/ Re-lotted nuclear power plant with 22,000MWh (included in this download). ________________________________________________________________________ The map was made using SC4 terraforming tools and rendered using SC4 Mapper. Title 2.) The map will first appear in-game according to SC4M format. As the cities are loaded and saved the map will appear according to SimCity graphics, or according to whatever terrain mods are used. 3.) Traffic flow is highlighted in color-codes for each network, showing sims travelling to work and back using road, rail and ferry. The re-lotted nuclear power plant (shown) is included in this download. 4.) The map in region view showing the ferry routes with black dotted lines. The ferry will travel around several curves to connect terminals, moving passengers and cars great distances within and between cities. 5.) Here is a an avenue connection showing the sims flocking to the bus and subway stations, and utilizing the parking garages. The toll booth is used to measure how much traffic is flowing between cities. 6.) All cities networked with airports, seaports, road, rail(s) and ferry. Sims travel to work and back between cities. ________________________________________________________________________ Reverse-engineering the SC4M Format Manual conversion of SC4M Mapper image to 256 grayscale-indexed bitmap image. (Note: In the image above I've misspelled palette as pallete. Palate, pallet and palette are often pronounced the same as pal-ut and my misspelling would be pronounced pal-eet, but in my mind it seems to pronounce as pal-et and distinguishes from the other two words.) Convert the image to 8-bit 256 grayscale Indexed .bmp Reverse the image so the rivers are now in the dark range and the land is in the lighter range. This is to make the map according to how SC4 renders water and land. Water is below 84 in the palette index (This is the 'light' parameter) and land is 84 and above. To make the transition from water and land good for placing ferry terminals I've set the water to 70 (#464646 html or 70 red green blue RGB, hue 0, saturation 0, light 70) The image here is 769 x 769 which is a map sized for a 3 x 3 large tile region. 769/256 is 3 + 1. The added 1 is required to make the map readable and render-able by SC4. The 'config.bmp' is 12 x 12. 12/4 is 3. Each large city is 4x 4. The process is a bit tedious as it requires manually re-setting 256 grayscale palette entries to get the height-map the way you want it. Another tedious task is erasing the grid lines that SC4 mapper creates. Once the image is reversed, you have to think in reverse contrast, not simply reverse illumination, meaning that land is higher (lighter) as it approaches the water and lower (darker) as it approaches its peak. The process is worth the time as you can adjust all the palette entries to fine-tune the terrain to maximize the map's use for city-building with both water and land. control+alt+shift+r Create a region folder and include a config.bmp and region.ini file with the name of the region and then use [control+alt+shift+r] to render the bitmap The new region is different from the original SC4M. The map is tailored according to manual fine-detailing of the height-map by re-setting the illumination of each palette entry individually. Note: There is a difference between a 256 color palette which may display only shades of gray and a 256 grayscale-indexed bitmap. Depending on the graphics program, it may be necessary to convert to a color palette to edit the gray shades, and then convert back to the 256 grayscale-indexed format.
