Micropolis comes to Windows - finally
Well, it seems I'm stuck being a Windows user for a while with SimCity 5/2013 coming out by next week. Though, as much as I can't wait for the new SimCity, I need something to hold me over. SimCity 4 crashes too much on 7, 3kU has comptiability issues, and the older ones just won't work peroid due to origins going back to 16bit DOS days. Then they'res Micropolis. Up until now, I was under the impression that no Windows existed, assuming all there was just the source code and OLPC package. No more! A pure Java port was made just for the cross-compitability. I'm not a fan of Java, but if it means being able to play my favorite game, then I'll deal with it. Thankfully, the .cty files are still compitable, despite yet another rewrite of the game. -

Archived Transcript with Limited Screen-Grabs: CNN Mars East Office November 19, 2092 8:12:35am MRT1 (Mars Region Time 1) 27 minutes Post-Cataclysm Commercial: ...With Solaris Galacom’s new subspace multiphase technology... never drop a call or lose your connection again. Solaris. Discover the Difference. Reporter 1: Marsha Penner reporting live from the Capitol Building in downtown Cydonia, Mars, where the Carpathian and Terran talks have deteriorated over terraforming rights over Venus. Talks took place this morning and quickly escalated over the claims that Carpathia and the Earth described city-state of Berengaria were stealing talent and highly educated individuals from multiple nations on the planet. It’s important to note that officials from the Carpathian government did not deny these.... Announcer: This is CNN Mars Breaking News. Producer: Camera two. Main Reporter: We’re going to get back to Marsha Penner in just a moment. We’ve been following some breaking news this morning, where widespread reports are coming in from across Mars today of widespread internet and massive communications disruptions with Earth. We have several unconfirmed reports that a major solar flare has caused widespread communications and power disruptions across Earth, starting at about 8am local time. We’ve yet to hear word from the Interplanetary Space Agency for clarity to the situation, and will let you know when we receive a statement. Federal officials has been sent to investigate, and have sent a crew out for more information. We’ll continue reporting once we get more details. We now go back to Marsha and her report on the Carpathian-Earth talks. Reporter 1: ... officials on both sides have called for a temporary moratorium. According to Terran officials, this is in order to give both sides time to cool down during the talks, as well as discuss the legal ramifications pertaining to the Terran accusations of the Carpathian government. However, an unidentified Carpathian official, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed that the Carpathian government agreed to the talks only as a formality and have no intention of giving up Venus under any circumstances. The same individual also noted that talks were likely not to continue due to the Terran officials not remaining on topic. Back to you in the news room John. Main Reporter: Thanks Marsha. In medical news today, medical researchers on Tol Sirion, New Carpathia have finished and widely published their results of a cure for the HIV virus this week, with many scientists showing reproducible results in what is now being hailed at the true cure to HIV. When questioned about why they shared the results, they were quoted as saying that it was “An important breakthrough for all humans, and needed to be shared in order to completely eliminate the virus from the universe.” Making top headlines in travel, the Interplanetary Transportation Commission has announced plans for a hypergate to be constructed between Mars and the Saturn moon of Titan. The Saturn Mining Company will be paying for 50% of the initial construction costs, with the rest coming from bonds issued by the IPTC. The new gate is being touted as a major step forward in hypergate technology, with the capability to accelerate ships to theoretical speeds of over 350 times the speed of light, versus the current 10 times the speed of light of current hypergates. Making foreign news, civil war continues on Serapha between the Rouc and Cruic. Now at the 5th month mark, both sides are refusing to attend peace treaty talks on Earth. Terran officials have suspended aid relief efforts to the planet for fear of safety to those involved, and have begun shipping workers back to Earth. The fighting appears to have started over a member of the Cruic royal family being found dead in the city of.... ...I’m sorry, I’m being told by my producer that we’re going to go to Scott Corgis in the news room with more information on the escalating communication blackout with Earth. Scott? Reporter 2: Thanks John. We’re now hearing scattered reports that the current communication blackout resulted from Berengarian hackers having launched a massive cyber attack on several major telecommunication hubs located across Earth. Berengaria officials currently have been unable to be reached during the blackout, and unnamed officials for the Carpathian government are fully denying the reports, stating that no evidence has been present to support the claims. Terran officials also are refusing to comment until they are able to reach their contacts on Earth. Terran government responders from Mars are expected to reach Earth within the next few moments, so we hope to hear.... Main Reporter: Scott, sorry to interrupt, but I’m getting word from our producer that we now have a live feed from our news crew. We’re going to switch over to Senior Correspondent Chris Muniz who is currently on route to Earth. Chris, what can you tell us? Reporter 3: John, I’m here aboard a transport vessel and were about 20 seconds from Earth. Government officials have not replied to our hails while in the gate at this time, and ships will have been planet side for about 5 minutes at this point. We’re going to stay on the line as we leave the gate. We’re now here.... and.... oh holy [bleep]..... Oh... oh god.... Main Reporter: Chris, what are you seeing? C-can we get a live video feed from the ship? Chris? Reporter 3: It... it.... its gone... its.... Oh god.... I don’t know how to describe it John. Earth... the moon.... they’ve been destroyed. {silence followed by crash in main news room and muffled cries of agony} Main Reporter: Uh... for those of you just joining us.... We.... we’re getting live feed from Earth where a major catastrophe appears to have occurred... END TRANSCRIPT - 5

Living On A Volcano? You Guessed it!
If you were buying a new home, would you ever think of buying a new house on a Volcano? The tiny town of Vale did just that! Residents had excellent views, however they never had peace of mind. There have been several close encounters with the settlement and lava has come as close as 500 metres to the township! Originally, Vale was once a State Park and had no settlement on it what so ever. - 3

I still owe you these shots of the Scene Nuclear Power Facility. So many thanks to paeng for always doing these awesome things. The facility was created by using his modular NPP set. I caught myself demolishing it several times, just so I could rebuild it. Enjoy. - 13

Mosaics of the Airport
Replies Sylvio Jorge: Thank you Sylvio! Efkin: Arigato! 2b2gbi: Ok, I'll take that criticism and use it. Forthwall: The streams happened... Fox: Thank you! Hazani Pratama: Thanks, Hazani Republic Master: Arigato! :3 starmodem: It's on Hide-Inoki, I'll PM you the link. --------------------------------------------------------------- Today we'll be visiting the largest and busiest airport in Shihaisha! This update will be a special update because it's an all-mosaic update! We'll be seeing cargo airlines, jumbo-jets, and other airlines! Let's go! It's early morning, but many jets have already arrived at the airport to service the many passengers coming. Now we'll be passing by the 777s from Delta and other airlines, some of the jumbos at the airport. But, wait for the largest aircraft at night coming in from Frankfurt! I smell jet fuel.... Do you? The airport was based off of the design in Tokyo-Haneda International Airport. Many airlines depart and arrive at the airport every day. Shihai Airways, Canadian Airlines of Kingston, All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, and Sky Yasuku use the airport as a major hub. - 29

Chapter 2: Crash site town
Begin Log 41-2400 I want to pull the AI straight from its core and use the mass driver to launch it directly into Mutsuhito before it does the same to me, buuuuuut then I'd get into trouble with Fleet Command because it kinda keeps us all in orbit. Also I did not think I could ever hate something more than the auto-logger, but the orbital camera controls are getting pretty close. Anyway, Kyo, sorry we've only communicated so little lately. Guiding a colony through its first steps is a very time consuming job, and until we disband the fleet I am the highest ranking officer in what remains of the nation of Nippon. I don't have to tell you that Fleet Command holds most of the power, but every file passes my desk and I have to authorize most of them. Every single damn street they lay out has its own piece of virtual paper floating around the fleet ether. Fortunately everything is moving now and I've delegated several of my responsibilities, freeing up some of my time to combat the atrocious orbital camera controls. I promised you pictures and I will deliver. First an overview of the valley. In this picture you can't see the oceans or that it's a valley really, but it does nicely show the perfect location we carefully nitpicked for the colony by randomly crashing a ferry into it: I'm sorry the orbital camera interface got copied into the picture but I haven't yet figured out how to disable it. It has this strange augmented reality thing going on that enhances my view on the colony. It's quite useful though, it shows a myriad of options and data, like the number of people that lived in the area during the last census as well as the name of the area. By the way "Neo-Tokyo" is actually a work title, but people seem to like it so expect it to stay. The strange dry riverbed and the jagged, box shaped nature of the forests are likely terraforming artefacts, but there's not much that we can do about that without massive reforestation efforts. And look at the bright side, it saves us the hassle of determining borders for districts. I also took a few picture that are a bit more zoomed in. Here's the first one, of the area directly around the ferry site: No wait, that's the wrong one. The orbital camera only snapped a corner of the viewport but it did include the AR overlay because it enjoys making my life miserable. There we go. As you can see we nicely spread out from the original crash site of the ferry. Nothing too fancy yet, just some sprawling streets and roads. A nice side effect of the AR in the orbital camera is that it also shows areas designated for a certain purpose. The green zones are future residential zones, the blue zones commercial. I don't know for the life of me why they started building houses in a more traditional Nipponian style, though. What's wrong with prefab? We also got some basic industry set up. Here's some agriculture and hydroponics: And here's a heavier industrial grid with a few factories: I don't think the few factories we have can actually make prefab segments, let alone advanced components, so all houses so far must've been built with materials the fleet brought with it. But then where did those advanced houses come from? We had nothing like that with us. Civil engineers are like wizards sometimes. Oh, and one of the construction overseers got overexcited and built a house for me. It's pretty, I could totally see myself living there: Too bad I have to stay aboard the Toyohiro Ichi in high orbit to oversee the colony in its earliest stages and keep Fleet Command from setting fire to each other's ships. I can't wait until we dismiss martial law and officially disband the fleet. Soon we will be able to elect our first real government in 12 years! Anyway, I really have to get back to signing papers now (sigh). Kaiba out. End Log Author Notes: Finally some actual screenshots of the actual colony! For the region I used a map of Taipei available here on the STEX. Nothing too fancy going on yet, but the colonists are still busy moving from space to the ground. I am suffering of some demand issues in my little town right now (hence the lowly populated industrial zone), but I should have that fixed soon enough.- Read More

XVI • Sketches by Kurosawa
Before we move on, "Sketches" does not mean a pencil sketch. I'm not gunning for realism here, but for morals and for imagination. It is meant to emphasize the symbols, diction and use of elements in the text, not to show off what I could do (Like LotEditing, Photoshopping, etc.) "蓮池や折らでそのまま玉祭" - Basho Lotus Pond! not - pick this as festival - of - spirits Crowds outside the white facade Prime Minister's Office began to grow; even in this cold and sombre night, upon hearing rumours of screaming office workers and emergency crews being called off to the scene. One candle shines brightly in front of semi-tinted full windows, revealing the horrors of a man dangling and unmoving inside. Okaiken's XVI Update takes you to a personal story. Cloudy skies cover the usual rising sun. Bitter emotions arose between cabinet members over the death of Prime Minister Gemba. Toshiro Kurosawa is one of these cabinet members. He is a young, aspiring politician yet serious and brash at the same time. Kurosawa is usually spotted exiting dojos and seems to be quite interested with jogging. At work, he is quite respected with everyone; his office is nice and organized, and he likes to He usually paints himself with a pokerface look and he never even attempted to smile. Today, he has another reason why he should not smile; losing a good friend is not one such reason to be happy. The following events are described by Mr. Kurosawa himself... "I find it funny when I end up in something that I did not even intend to happen. My ambition in life is to design buildings and become an architect, not to get stuck in an office job dealing with issues in my ministry. (How exactly did I end up here again?) When I graduated from the University of Okashi with a degree in architecture, I thought that I would get a job in Okaiken's most prestigious engineering companies: Bockstael, Torii, and OCL. However, one of my friends thought that working in the government could be better than those companies." In the process, Toshiro chuckles as if he finds his 'unfortunate' fate funny. He then sets himself back to his usual seriousness. He grabs a cup beside him, sips and settles it down. "So, I accepted the offer of working in the Government as an Infrastructure Manager, and then I just work my way up the occupational ladder. In this process, I was able to draw my ideas and incorporate it in my projects. Then, out of the blue, Jobei-san (Tadagutsu Jobei, then Minister of Finance and Leader of the Liberal Democrats) saw that "I have the potential to run for political office", so I ran in 2010 in Ofunato Prefecture as a Liberal Democrat... and I won my seat on the house. At 25, the media reports about me are extensive, from being the youngest member of Parliament to questions about my experience. Nevertheless, I was appointed by Jobei-san to the Infrastructure Ministry. I continued sketching, especially with nearby buildings." "The First thing I drew in Okashi is the famous Green Gate, where coronations, speeches and coup attempts happen. Well, sort of." "I tried this helicopter tour provided by Hellocopter Tours and from there I was able to sketch Chiyoda during the day." "During my short term as Infrastructure Minister, I was appointed to be in charge of the construction of Teijin Park Stadium. In less than 2 years, the Park was almost done and only a few landscaping options are left." "It was here at the park where I learned the news that my friend had passed away in his office. I rushed immediately to the office and I could not remember anything at all. I am still devastated with the loss of my friend, but I hear what they say, "It's time to move on and cheer"." "With my black pen I put pressure, and the black goblets of ink started to appear. My head ached as I tried to work. 'No avail' I decided to call in sick and stay on the house to ponder 'What's next?'. It was not long until I hear ringing on the phone, and I picked up the phone." ... Kurosawa, upon seeing the note intended for the Prime Minister on the hands of the reporter, started shedding some tears. He was then able to stop his emotional outburst and then sets himself in a comfortable position. He then looks at the window outside and sees a flow of heavy rain and loud thunder, even though it's mid-February. It seems like the sky feel his inner emotional brakdown and that he supports him every way possible; but, just like the unpredictablility of death, it can happen at any given moment. He runs toward the bathroom and screams, then he collapses in the floor, sobbing. Here. "It's time to move on and cheer" Additional Pictures "A Picture is worth a thousand words and not everyone has the same set of eyes. Interpret every picture and open your possibilities. FIN" - 26

1820-1860
Franconia grew rapidly over the next decades. The streets were wide and capable of turning teams of four oxen around in them. A gorgeous new Courthouse was built in the centre of the town. The steeple could be seen for miles. These view are about 1840-45 The old steeple was replaced by the more modern cupola. Note the double and sometimes triple buildings on formerly large city lots. The Courthouse Square has not been expanded yet. Also pay attention to the Zots above certain houses. These were once considered a fashinoable statement in Franconia.- Read More

Iona - A night We`ll never forget!
We didnt know what to expect, but heard great things about a night out in Iona - the bars, the clubs, the drinks and the 'talent' of course!!. We got to our hotel (The Plaza Tower Hotel) at 4pm via the nearby underground station, just in time to have a quick look round the shops and designer boutiques for a new outfits. We got showered, shaved and splashed on the Hugo Boss (as we say in the UK suited and booted) and left the hotel to hit the town. We visited a few bars round the main square and got chatting to a group of locals in Max's Bar, Jakes Place to do shots and chasers, and Cream to bust a few moves! . Before we knew it was 3am and we where off to a house party....at the top of a skyscraper!!! cocktails, topless girls and city views what more could you want!! I dont really know what happened, but we left for another party, with a quick stop to a 24hr shop to buy some Grey Goose vodka and mixers.. On the way to the next party we stopped for a quick skinny dip in some pool outside this office, well we did for 5 minutes before some fat guard chased us away! I was almost sick from laughing and running.. Cant really remember what happened next, its all a blur and a few flash backs, all I know is we woke up on some island close to Iona downtown, it was 11am....I wearing a G String with lipstick all over my neck and a pair of Elvis sunglasses and a blow up crocodile called Mandy.... .....one thing I do know is this town knows how to party and I will deffo be coming back!!! - 7

Woodhaven Farm Village
This is a new CJ that I have started. The idea is pretty much playing Simcity how it was originally meant to be played. I haven't been using any cheats. I only have the basic mods like NAM and NWM etc, but they aren't cheating and just make the game more realistic. I do have quite a few custom lots but they don't give me any financial gain. This CJ will take a small farming village though to a huge metropolis. Starting with empty land, through to farm land... In the beginning... Family homes and farm land... Commercial centre... Farm land... A new suburb being laid out in the north of Woodhaven... A few years later, everything has grown up... More coming soon xxx -

Fargoland
Fargoland is the future New York. With commercial in the middle, the beautiful buildings will make the residential rim an urban sprawl. Fargoland started out with a small suburban area with only industrial and agricultural jobs outside of the city. I later on added civics stuff and eventually, I added commercial due to high demand. I waited and waited and now here it is. (I can only put one pic because everything else was too big of a file) Edit:I used the no road areas to make parks and stuff. I have used much of the city space too. -

Kota Baru, part 1
I have noticed I occasionally typed in Tanjung Perak instead of Tanjung Hitam, sorry.... . Fun fact: Tanjung Perak is the name of my city's port. ============================================================================== Kota Baru is a satellite new town located east of Tanjung Hitam, with a population of 4.500. Originally a small village named Desa Leko, the need for more housing and the development of industry to the east led to the development of Kota Baru. Composed of several clusters developed by different companies, it also contains a commercial strip, some offices, as well a Carrefour supermarket. The original village. A part of the village has been turned into office area. Part 1, we'll start off with clusters. Puri Amalia Indah. This was the first cluster to be developed. Initially sold as cheap, and small land, the company that built the cluster started to build homes that are still standing, though some have been renovated. Suryajaya Residence. The second cluster to be built, a small commercial district was built to the south as a part of the cluster. Virginia Cluster, the third and most expensive cluster to be built. The large mansion is the home of a rich businessman who bought 4 houses and demolished them so he can build the mansion. Named as such due to the homes being styled after American homes. Griya Mentari, the latest cluster to be built(as of this update). Also pictured, to the bottom of the image is the municipal offices of Kota Baru and a part of the commercial strip. The commercial strip, the high school, the medical clinic(puskesmas), and the elementary school. The elementary school is a remnant from the village of Desa Leko. ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ Hope to see you next update! - 11

Newcastle: Full Update
So here are some more pics of Newcastle: The Main Railway Station in Newcastle, and surrounding slightly newer buildings: Around the corner is the High Speed Rail Station. This is a very small station for the HSR system that takes passengers from Chelmsford to Earcester (the National Capital) and beyond in only two hours on the Southway Special Express route with only two stops in Sachem and Kent in between. This is the fastest way to travel throughout the nation. The Center of Newcastle: Church of the Ascension and Christ's College: Broadway Tower, one of the older structures in Newcastle: Though Newcastle was settled in ancient times, most of the modern city was built in the late 1800's as indicated on the city hall. The construction of the Summer Palace demanded that the settlement be made fit for royal living. Outside of the very center, Newcastle becomes very quickly suburban. The South Lawn is at the south end of the Center where Broadway becomes the great Chelmsford Road. The minimalism and elegance of Newcastle's parks balance the extravagence of much of its architecture. A very old chapel overlooking the Spauldiung River on a beautiful promontory: Thank you for visiting! - 54

The United Cities of Inandia!
So I'm starting a new region and my cities are not growing! Well only the smaller ones are growing, but no big cities at all! I try to create a big city but the population remains at zero! My medium and small towns are growing but nothing major.. My biggest city so far is Beckheign and the population is growing around 44 to 45,000 people. My 2nd new city is called , simply, Oklahoma and its not growing more than 2,900 people! its a pretty town though. Oklahoma is now mainly a small farming town, but was originally intended to be a pretty good size city, its not growing more than 2,900 people! So i just put down farms , nice nieghborhoods, schools , hospitals, the usual stuff but thats about it. I continue to try and create a major big city but after try after try I still have not been able to do it. My older region had Chrisville which is still the biggest city I have ever created and that grew to 480,000 before people started leaving the city. Ciudad de Los Volcanos was my 2nd largest city at 394,000 people. I just wanted to start up a new region and so here i am! -

The tale of the time traveler.
Response to the comments: Her highness's humble servant responds to the comments: GGamus: The power of the asian gurl compels you . Thanks for the kind words! IL: Have a look below for some awesome screens. Glad you enjoyed it! Brian: Thank you for your kind words! It means alot to me! Plus the gods are happy with all these happy responses! The theory: The story: So if you thought this cj was going to be a entire text book of Murken and Europa unitis ( The planet this nation exists on) through it's entirety , then you are deeply wrong! There have been theories over time that the history of the nation has been tampered with, or adjusted by huge time mech machines called "Norgorths" or "monoliths". Many scriptures have been written depicting crude but interesting images of the norgroths and there entirety. Many date back to the early Murken republic and can be found in many theory banks across the Unitis internet. One specific story that catches the attention of the researchers is a 185 page book of sorts about a man named turner. It is not known his age or even his sex. It describes in some vague detail about Norgroths buts uses the term "machines" almost proving that the assumption that supposed "time machine" theories existed back in this time period. I will now select a few paragraphs from the reading to tell you guys about to give you a better idea of the plot of the book and THEN we could decide if it is indeed real or not! The story: The man landed in the field at the break of morning. It was hazy but visible in the bright sunlight shining upon the machine that lay beside him in a heap of mess. His body lay unconcious on the ground without a spec of movement whatsoever. I slowly approach the body and lay my hand on his scared abdomen. I feel a jolt rush from his body in quick leap of energy. The man leaps from the ground and glares at me, and scampers off like a animal. The field: A second sighting: A odd man entered my tavern sometime in the evening hours. He asked for a pale ale and I served him. He set a few odd coins that look counterfit on the counter. I thought to myself , maybe it was one of those weird travelers we get all the time in here. He left with a look of intent. He scurried off into the street like a rat or something of the like. I saw him again in the market the next day with some women... I was not suspicious. The third and final sighting: Translation from some rhinedish language, Known to be used by some trade guilds in the region: It was horrifying. The horror on the mans face. It had a thievish glare to it. Like it was a ghost. It frightened me as it approached me in the forest. I evaded the ghost's intent of violence. I stayed in the guild tavern the next day. I never saw it again. Perhaps I had met him before. Somewhere in another world Stemming from the previous update. No one ever figured out where the Von Murken's crew actually landed. Von murken would hold a grudge that some of his closest allies would ponder about themselves throughout the rest of Murkens life as the governor of the Santa Carolina colony. Some theories suggest the specific tribe they met near the beach had some kind of amnesia juice of some sort. Such theories are weak since there where no known tribes that existed in any large amount near there. Which suggest anyone who lived there at all was severely disconnected from the rest of tribal society on the mainland. I would like to ask you guys, what are you theories about the matter. Please post in the comments if you have any idea's?! - 3
